- Join us today on Retro Quick Bytes as we find out How Long Does a 27 Year Old Laptop Battery Last on a pair of Windows 95 Laptops. These Toshiba Tecra 500CDT Laptops were top-of-the-line when they came out in 1996, and these are original batteries in them. Although one battery is refurbished, let's find out if it makes a difference.

This is amazing! I wish my batteries lasted that long! My current laptops need to be plugged in to turn on 😅
My gaming laptop lasts 2 hours normal usage (school type usage because I use it for school) and under load when you is about 50% it lasts about 1 hour 20 minutes
I've actually put a lot of the old Windows 95 and some of the old Mac and Linux screensavers onto my Windows 10 and 11 systems.. I for whatever reason just enjoy the flying windows and the pipes screensavers, and they all work perfectly fine on all of my modern systems, even my Qualcomm Snapdragon equipped ThinkPad.. it's a nice simple screensaver and doesn't use any appreciable system resources.. contrary to popular belief, modern screens will burn in when you put a lot of hours on them and don't use a screensaver.. so, all my stuff has one on it.. oh how I miss those days....
96 The year I graduated High school, I still can't believe it has been that long, it sure goes by fast. I am horrible with computers lol, but I find all tech fascinating, and this was very interesting. Another great video 😀
What a fun test. Thanks Josh
That was a fun test! I enjoyed watching! Keep on keeping the tech Retro! 🤗
Love the intro! This was a fun video. Interesting to see how long a battery that old can last
This was a cool test to see! 💕That’s neat the compact flash helped the left one open smoother. It was cool to see the pipe screensaver too, I wonder if the whole screen gets filled with it if it’s on long enough 😂
Thanks, Nikki! And to answer your question, the screen will reset to blank before it completely fills up. LOL. :-)
WooHoo!! Awesome Josh !! great job!!
Thanks, Dad!
That was interesting. Thanks Josh.
Very interesting test Josh! Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Incredible. I would have guessed under 10 minutes.
They don't make 'em like they used to. 😎 I remember these well.
For sure!
I recently purchased not too long ago used HP laptop for $50 dollars that was created later half of 2020. The laptop came with a Ryzen 3 3300U with Vega 6 GPU, 4GB DDR4, 1TB Hard-Drive. Ended up upgrading the memory to 32GB and replacing the stock HDD with a SSD. Got for cheap cause person who owned it disliked how slow it was running which was cause of the limited RAM it had from factory.
These days laptop has internal batteries and not removable batteries like laptops tended to have in the past. Most people won't feel comfortable taking apart to a laptop to replace it's internal batteries. They will either just live with having to leave it plugged in while using it OR will just buy another laptop if they have the cash for it.
Lucky for me I'm more then capable of taking apart laptops that's cause I took electronic repair. I find knowing how to do electronic repair helps me with working on computers in general cause I will know if it's a software issue OR hardware. 😁
Ryzen 3 for 50 dollars?!? Sounds like an unmatchable greatest deal ever
@@sihamhamda47 Yep just $50 dollars. The laptop comes with only 4GB of RAM from the factory and comes with Windows 10 Home.
Just sitting at the desktop doing nothing was using around 3.6 GB of RAM. So it left hardly anything for apps. It was the reason I got it for that cheap.
Turned around spent $25 dollars on a 32GB DDR4 kit. Then replaced the factory 1TB HDD with a SSD which I had all ready.
The laptop is quick now boots up in 12 seconds flat. Even loads software fast as well.
So in the end I only got $75 dollars invested in the laptop. Since I all ready had the SSD laying around.
really my new laptop buttery is dying after 2 minutes
They are half of that size.
Great Techy Vid 2nd Techy BRO = "Josh" :) I Go Through "Samsung Batteries Like There Is No Tomorrow Just WISH The Batteries Would Last So Much Longer But That Is The Modern World For You :)
Since You Asked About "How Long Does Your Longest Batteries Last" My Acer Laptops Still Have "Their Original Batteries" & They Still Hold Their Charge :) ...Compared To My Samsung Batteries That Hardly Last At All SADLY :(
Impressive for 27 year old batteries!
I've got two Compaq Armada 1750 (one from 1998, one from 1999) and both batteries last over 1 hr (1:15 for the top performer)
My Tecra 700CT battery is still original and still lasts 3 hours!
Nice!
Mine now lasts 5 hours when not watching videos, and 2 hours when watching videos. So it is pretty okay.
Nice!
My sister's Toshiba's battery just died!
Battery 🪫 🔋 check
Give me Windows 7 anytime. Next system will be a Chromebook
Windows 7 was a good OS for sure. I don't know if I could do everything I want to do on a Chromebook though. I definitely haven't upgraded to Windows 11 yet. I'm still on 10.
