So glad you're talking about the "legacies" of these celebrity figures, always glorifying these characters when the truth is way different! Much like Princess Diana...I thought she was a saint, but thanks to Prince Harry, SHOVING HIS MOTHER'S MEMORY in my face, I started researching her story and it turns out Princess Di WAS A BIT UNSTABLE, to a degree, and used the PR machine and press to upstage her ex, and provoke the public's hate for Camilla. A private pilot friend of mine said to me: "Even a rookie pilot would never have even taken off that night in that foggy weather."
He had IFR training, and flew this route many times, his initial mistake which then cascade toward the crash was tuning his radio to the wrong frequency, so when he was supposed to hear from the airport he was heading to, and wasn’t getting anything, panic probably started setting in because he was starting to head over the dark Atlantic, a mistake anyone could make even with experience, now maybe there was some “get-there-itis” going on, again anyone with any experience level could get, obviously more experience minimizes this but it still happens to experienced pilots.

Years ago, I read an article by an acquaintance of JFK jr. He wrote that they had talked not long before that fateful flight. JFK jr told him that his wife had been pressuring him into making the flight against his better judgement. He was worried because he did not believe himself to be a good enough pilot for it. If this story is true, JFK jr, as the pilot, was responsible for the decision to fly or not, but it was a case of a lack of boundaries with his wife rather than arrogant risk-taking.

Know a retired flight instructor who said JFK, Jr. had a few hundred hours on his logbook, and that’s when people get overconfident. He thought he knew some shit. He sure didn’t know IFR well enough not to get himself and 2 passengers killed.
Exactly correct. Having money does not mean you fly. People don’t understand that you can encounter IFR in visual conditions. No visible horizon means you need instrumentation. Perfectly good airplane flown into the water. Four dead due to arrogance.
He never could have passed the flight review for being able to fly legally in IFR conditions...Too stupid.

He had no plans for the oval office. He had his magazine. They were partiers.
So he's a thrill seeker. Traumatized children often do this. It makes them feel alive when they otherwise feel dead.
Look at all the solo rock climbers, the skiers who jump out of helicopters...
His magazine was just something to do until he could run for office.
Someone should write “Ask All: The Kardashian’s and the Men they Destroyed”

@@mikegarippo7815I know. I guess I wasn’t paying attention when I wrote that. The comment still stands.
The finest among us aren't the rich and famous.
I believe some may be quite rich though.
This part of the interview is great. I was working in DC 1988 , same age as JFK jr, -my cousin worked for Ted Kennedy and she told me about how women would lose their minds when JFK jr would come to visit his uncle at the Capitol. This interview is so accurate .
JFK was reckless in WW2 as the boat commander and they spun into some act of heroism.
He was a hero stop the hate
@@Nyc0629I agree!
Kind of hard to play it safe in world War 2
@@Nyc0629No, he really wasn't.
@shellytracy5396 no he really was, do your hom work
He was so handsome. I cried when I found out and immediately started writing a poem about him. I'm not even a writer. I sent it to the Kennedy family and they replied with a sweet thank you note. ❤
❤
JFK junior was handsome and dumb handsome spoiled brat he did not care about welfare of women he was with
Can we read it? ❤
Don't know what's appealing about 6 foot dumb dumb
Gosh you fangirls are so freaking weird. “He was so handsome and that’s why his death was sad.” Get a freaking grip. You aren’t 17 anymore.
When this happened I thought thank God his mother was not alive.
Me too. I think it would have buried her in grief.
Exactly my thoughts. This would have collapsed her heart. She had lived through a lot of the Kennedy tragedies
I felt the same way, too.
His wife greatly delayed his departure so he flew the trip in dark . He was going to an island where a wedding was scheduled. Delay was caused by wife getting her finger nails painted 3 times to get correct color.
Sister-in-law delayed flight
Yep! There is a show about that day and how he planned to fly out earlier but was delayed. He also had a broken foot at the time. Also his flight instructor offered to fly with him that evening but he turned offer down
That’s the same as saying "he had to drive 200mph through a school zone because his wife made him late”
Sorry no excuses . His fault
@@jasonbennetts9654 You may feel many are blaming the Sister in law but i only agree that she was the one that caused the delay. BUT in FLYING, THE FULL RESPONSIBILITY to GO or STAY rest on the PILOT IN COMMAND.
Another famous flying tragedy, Lynard Skynard. Pilots ran the engines for an Hr waiting for Artimus Pyle to get to the air port. That used up fuel which could have been used for flying. But the Pilots flying still made the decision to fly and not refuel.
There is usually many chains in the tragic event that if one didn't happen the outcome could be different.
Still think Hellary was his airplane mechanic 😂
But he never wanted to be a lawyer his mother wanted him to be a lawyer so he could follow in his father’s legacy.
His father wasn't a Lawyer.
@@Tank4Life yep, but most senators and congressmen are lawyers.
He wanted to be an actor, he was meant to be a natural on stage. RIP no matter what he was in life
@@denisebyrne6571 Correct! John wanted to be an actor but Jackie said NO.

And his father wanted to be a journalist but was pushed into politics by his dad after his eldest brother Joe, Jr., was killed in World War II. Joe, Jr., was the golden boy in the family.
I'm a guy and I thought John Kennedy was flawlessly handsome, well-built and personable. Had he lived, I do believe that if he wanted it, he would have become the President of the U.S. He was like a male Princess Diana without the scandal. I do not believe he had a "death wish," he was what they call a "thrill-seeker." He had a great sense of humor. But like his father, he was reckless. John's fatal flaw was hubris. His mother Jacqueline was very concerned about this and had a premonition that his flying would end in disaster. She believed he was absent minded, accident-prone, clumsy and never prepared himself much before a challenge.
@user. Your right about what his mother said about him...he was the only person ever to get LOST on a safari in Africa. He was a LOON a DoDo. People were tricked into his circle only to to find nothing between his ears. A GOOD President!!! Well could have been as GOOD as Byedumb I guess
I don't think he had a death wish, either. He most likely believed (on some level, at least) that he was indestructible.
🙄Diana is also another one the media put on a pedestal when she was nothing more than a golddigger.
She came from wealthy aristocracy and was an impressionable teenager and the royal family wanted her.
@@Thaddeus-ml8if
She was 19. He sought her out. Because she was a virgin and didn’t have a past. She was an aristocrat, she was not poor. She was young and gullible, a believer in a fairy tale. She was absolutely not a gold digger.
how convenient. is this woman a plant
Me very question! (said in an Irish brogue).
A plant by whom? For what purpose? He's been dead a long time. Maybe so when Hilary steps onto the ticket the story of the Senate run is dismissed?
JFK junior used to come into my then boyfriend's Pancake Restaurant in Tribecca - what a lovely guy. He was very kind.
Why are these 2 people talking about this man’s private life. It’s not his fault he was born rich, handsome and powerful. You don’t know the trauma and mental health he may have suffered because the pressure of living in the public, death of his dad and all. If he was alive you both would be falling for him.
He lived the life of a trust fund baby, always skateboarding around NYC while others his age were at work. I knew someone who attended Brown when he did. He didn't care for JFK Jr. At all.
What in particular did he not care for?
Lost soul
I'm the same age as JFK Jr. I know ppl my age who knew him both at Brown and NYU Law. I know many regular people who really liked him. Especially at NYU Law. I met him twice. Cordial. He was a risk taker primarily as a reaction to his mother and upbringing. Also, he was dyslexic at a time when noone talked about dyslexia and as a consequence, his mother got him moved out of St. Davids and into Collegiate. Insofar as Carolyn Bissette, I knew other people who knew her. She had an actual drug problem. And she couldn't handle the media. She liked the glamour but couldn't take the lights.
@@Krista823 Thanks to his needlessly reckless behavior.

The NTSB report clearly states he suffered Spacial Disorientation which lead to the demise of the three people onboard.
I am 71 years old...all my life my mother would buy all the life magasines about the Kennedy family! I would love to read them because I was the same age as one of Robert Kennedy!
But all we could read and hear was how fearless they were...all of the boys and cousins! They were thought that way!
Live dangerously!
On top of that...Jacky was told once that John Kennedy junior should never fly...that he would loose his life...she warned him of her worries for this ..but he ignored her!
Like my Dad would say:" some people run after their deaths!"
Sounds like he wanted out of this crazy world.
So many people on here wrapped up in a hot guy instead of how strange and broken he was. There are hundreds of stories like this about him. He had a death wish most of his life.

hangar talk & pilot advice - never get in a plane with someone u don’t know or trust - there are/were people i would never fly with that i knew were risk takers

Oh, get your head out of your ass. It was never Camelot. It was Equus.
At the time, the press was surprised because JFK Jr was so "cautious". I remember Andrea Mitchell making the comment that JFK Jr was so cautious, but then in the next breath mentioned how he broke his arm recently skiing. The press knows that if one tells the truth on the RICH and FAMOUS you will never get interviews or access to them- goodbye cocktail parties. Same goes for Sports Reporters...
His leg
@@woofwoof9667And he was not skiing. He had a sort of motorized glider. Returning to land, he and his glider were blown into a bush or tree at fear speed. His ankle ,(or leg) was so badly broken that the local emergency room doctor told him he would need surgery - surgery that he soon received at (I think) Mass General in Boston.
For those of you who do not fly, what he did was so stupid on such a basic level that it is hard to overstate.
It is if this is indeed how it all happened...

@@hannanolan8140 Wrong
I just hate that there are people out there who make excuses for him! 1. He didn't register his flight plan
2. He refused the offer of a qualified pilot to fly *with him* that night
3. He had his radio set to the wrong frequency
4. He was not qualified to fly via instruments alone, i.e. he needed landmarks & daylight to guide him
5. Never formally acknowledged but he probably had ADHD which made him impatient, reckless & didn't follow through with instructions
