They are taking those interactions out of context. British humor, plus long married couple giving each other a jokingly hard time. I found it endearing.
They mentioned the affair, it didn't need to be harped on, it was a big bump in a long marriage, and hopefully, it is left in the past.

One major correction on the Rolls Royce reference. It wasn't an attempt to create a narrative David preferred, it was an attempt to create a narrative that Victoria preferred. David merely called her out on her BS to correct the narrative. No harm no foul here. It would like the man saying he caught a blue Marlin and wife interjecting to say "be honest" and the man having to admit it was a bluegill. The criticism should be on the person stretching the truth not the one raising the red flag.

Dude, Maureen, he’s one of the most famous, successful athletes of the most world famous sport! That’s part of the job. Military families move, musician families move, many different types of occupations require moving and as a wife desiring to keep the family together and respect the life she’s signed up for, she does what she needs to do. If she didn’t want to do it, she doesn’t need the money, obviously. She’s doing what many wives around the world do. And as far as loving football, it’s what he was made to do. He doesn’t KIND OF have to be that way, HE HAS to be that way to get to be number one. It’s how it is and it’s what she obviously understands about him. Marriage is not a fairytale. It’s real life. Men suck sometimes. Women have to suck it up sometimes, that’s life. They seem to be doing pretty well for themselves and have a life neither Megyn, Maureen, nor I could imagine. And for the record, Brits can be very harsh and take the piss out of each other. It’s just how they are. I married a Scot, and it’s hard as an American cuz we can be more “nice” and less harsh and critical, but it is generally meant in good humor. you accept it as part of who they are. It’s what you do as a committed, married person.

Her career of being a Spice girl was mostly at the beginning of when they were falling in love. Now she’s got a Fashion House. He respects her for being famous in her own right. If they split up, which I didn’t see signs of, she has given her all. She had to find schools in every place they landed too. Now they are settled, have fun watching their Netflix series. A lot better than Harry and Meghan’s, where all they did was whine and whinge about the Royal family. That was their whole thing. Neither one of them has accomplished much of anything.

You have to remember they were both successful kids when they met. She was part in one if 2 girl bands and the were very successful. She went in tour in the new loved and passion side, snd would talk to her for hours from wherever she was. He would drive for hours in England if she were somewhere else. Of course hormones
played a big part if that, but he was head over heels. So was she. He did fly across the world when they were in tour. Point bringing she already had established a very good career before their romance began. David was with someone who was at one of the concerts, and he told the person… “See that one? I’m gonna marry her one day!”
She was pregnant” reminds me of Paul snd Kinda McCartney. They were smitten with each other, but she was a
professional photographer taking photos of the top Rick groups. She had been married and divorced, and has a little girl. They got to know each other in London and then they parted ways both continued on site their careers. were touring in NY.

I was disappointed with this discussion. Normally Megyn Kelly is spot on but she made the mistake of falling for Maureen Callahan's opinions about the Beckhams. They are giving an American perspective regarding a British couple. Maureen is projecting things that don't exist. They don't understand the British culture or the professional athlete world. Maureen doesn't grasp what is required in a marriage. I loved how the Beckhams revealed their humanity, vulnerability and imperfections. I like the way they handled the issue of the alleged affairs. At the end of the day, it is a personal and private matter that they dealt with as a deeply committed couple. I don't think divorce was an option for them because they value deeply having a close-knit family. I have respect for their authenticity, honesty, and openness.. They are not perfect but they have strong values and it shows well.

Erm, my father was in the military. More than once my mother had to pack up and move a family across the country or to another continent altogether, usually all on her own. She knew that when she married my father. It came with the territory. And yes, sometimes he put in for the transfer on a whim. That’s what a lot of young men do, they think about their careers before they think about their families inconvenience. Is it great? No. Do they grow out of it with the help of their patient wives? Yes. The good ones do. What are you suggesting? That Victoria is some abused wife? You do realize this was a documentary about David primary, right? Have you forgotten that Victoria was already immensely successful in her own right and has had a thriving career ever since? Is this woman married? Ever been in a long term relationship? Doesn’t every married couple bug one another about the others stories that might not be quite accurate? She goes on about his “obsessive compulsive” behaviour in her “article”. Is she now belittling him or accusing him of being a bad person because he might have OCD? SERIOUSLY? I hope she’s as tranquil as a rock and does not have any annoying quirks …. It wasn’t HIS narrative. It was HER narrative. Geezuz …. This woman sounds petty and bitter. She also references D.A. Pennebaker … he also did documentaries of bands where he didn’t delve into all their dirty laundry. He portrayed a portrait of a particular aspect of the band. People are allowed to select what story they tell. This was HIS project. Go do your own documentary then, woman. Or does every docuseries HAVE to highlight only nasty things? Augh, this rubbed me the wrong way. Have you ever met a man who achieved greatness who didn’t have that same drive and obsession with whatever it is they do? Ffs ….. what was he supposed to do? Give up football to sit at home with Victoria and the kids all day? If he did this woman would be calling him a loser.

I was aware of the Beckhams and their celebrity prominence without ever actually following their lives.
So I was interested to watch the documentary.
I found it a fascinating viewing, impressed that the referencing of one of the most painful times in their relationship, David's affair/s, was in my view handled with diplomacy and avoided the crass grandstanding sensationalism that mainstream media dishes out to incite public outrage.
Those episodes in the lives of couples are strictly their own business but part of the Beckhams strength is their acknowledgement of said affairs without turning it into a circus.
David Beckham is undoubtedly as flawed as the rest of us yet the degree of hatred, vilification and malevolent abuse hurled at him by an obsessive and irrational football public for years over a game incident which even the other player involved admitted years later he initiated and that Beckham was unjustly sent from the game over, thereby contributing arguably to England losing the game.
The deluge of abuse, hatred, obscenities a deranged public hurled every time he ran onto the field thereafter illustrates the sheer courage and humility as Beckham returned time and again onto the field to face his tormentors and play his heart out.
The man should have been mentally destroyed by the punishingly destructive abuse he was unremittingly bombarded with each and every time he played.
So he has OCD ? Who cares ? Many greats in other fields share this same intense attention to detail, are we to fault all of them too ? I think not.
This documentary elevated my interest, and now, huge respect for a couple who quite obviously have applied a lot of hard work into preserving and growing their relationship and more strength to them.
This is a man who eschewed privilege and chose to queue for 12 hours to pay his respects to his beloved Queen Elizabeth ll with the everyday people on the street, quite possibly many of whom were the very ones who vilified him so long ago.
Like I said, a man of outstanding courage.

Do they need to publicize their mistakes and pain for the world to see? Again! NO! It’s for them to work it out privately and they obviously did and choose to stick by each other and grow together. We should be happy for them! Often times, someone makes a mistake and tries their best to correct it but divorce is much easier in the US so here we go. I actually respect them more for working things out, sticking together and now look how happy they are. And the documentary is about David overall life, not just one part of his life. Their was actually a lot to learn from his life like hard work, difficult decisions, heartbreak within a career. The need to adjust and be adaptable. Lots of love and support. Hello Megyn. I loved my three month tour of US many years back and your country and people, but England is different to US.
Remember that Victoria played up "Posh" in Spice Girls, as if a character. Also the way you know an English or British person likes you is that they really take the Mickey.
I assume you have seen a British TV comedy, based on working class humour, but for any reading that have not, the star is not the hero, as in US, but the one who never quite gets it right, in other words the little guy who will never make it, but gets by having a laugh and getting laughed at, like a Charlie Chaplin or a Stan Laurel.
To succeed too much, or be a winner every time just would not get the same feeling of being someone you could relate to. Beckham getting sent off, in a game that put England out of a World Cup, allows him to be a flawed hero.

@@leslie6938 "Taking the Mickey" is a polite version. I would normally, as a blunt Yorkshireman, say something with four letters, beginning with "p" instead of "Mickey". A young Texan was rather taken aback when I said it there, but said that she loved how I talked.
It is poking fun at someone in a very sarcastic, cruel way, to show that you can, not because you hate them, but because you are mates. Australians are very good at it. They are very like northern English folk, liking swearing, drinking, pies, chips with gravy, cricket, rugby league and making your mates look as stupid as possible to keep them from thinking they are better than you. You may have seen a film with an Aussie character like that?
"Are you really American or just taking the ....?" could have been my response, assuming we were buddies.

Not all Americans are humorless. I thought the Rolls Royce moment was cute and it made me chuckle. There was a lot of teasing between the the two Beckhams which made them very likable. The reality in the series was part of what made it alluring and evoked admiration from viewers for both people.
In addition, I agree with all who commented about the life of team sport athletes. They trade or cut people with very few words and suddenly the player’s life changes. It happens in all team sports. I just watched Moneyball recently and remembered the scene in which the characters played by Brad Pitt and Jonah Goldberg “rehearsed” how to tell a player he’s moving from one city to another across the country to play in a game that very night. Anyone who knows how trading works would never have the discussion these two ladies had today. Neither of them know anything about the subject they were discussing. Let me add, I am a regular viewer of Megyn’s show and won’t stop watching just because today was a bit of a miss.

David & Victoria Beckham are human. They lived their lives in the public. Which of us is perfect? They managed to raise four children. He was successful at football, and she had lately accomplished A LOT with her fashion and beauty brand. They managed to stay together and are a close family.
They have achieved a lot over the years, and I did not see them feeling sorry for themselves. (It was not the central theme of their documentary.)
I do not think it is even closely comparable to Meghan and Harry’s “documentary”. They should have waited until they achieved something before making a documentary. (But I don’t think they’ll be together anymore in twenty years.)

I totally disagree with the opinions expressed in this video. There is a difference in American and English humour and Americans often don’t get the subtleties of our irony. The rolls Royce thing was hilarious. DB saying that football was more important than his family was just him convincing his new club that he was fully committed and wouldn’t be distracted. If he had affairs then so what? That’s between him and his family. It was alluded to and that was all that was needed. There was video footage to show all of his ups and downs, so there was no misrepresentation. I thought it was a great documentary of a life well lived and I resent people like this woman who want to turn it into something more sinister. Sometimes you just have to look at the evidence and what we have with the Beckhams is a loving, happy family.
