why didnt they just call it an Avalanche
The Evalanch
Facts
I always called them the crapalanche
avalanche = junk
Because the negative comments would just snowball out of control.
So basically it's an electric Avalanche.
took words from my mouth
I was about to say the same thing 😅
innovative and by that i mean we took something from a 2005 avalanche
Yep. A friend was an engineering support manager at Chevy back then - he said the Avalanche mid-gate was the #1 support item. The seals would break down after about a year and water would start leaking into the cabin. Obviously not on all vehicles, but enough that they were his biggest headache.
OMG. YES WE’RE FULLY AWARE *GM* HAS BEEN A TOP INNOVATOR IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY FOR DECADES AS THIS FEATURE ISN’T NEW, DOES THAT MAKE THE MID-GATE ANY LESS PRACTICAL? You *haters* are so triggered at the sight of this and the Hummer. Why y’all so mad? That’s a rhetorical question, it’s pretty obvious why y’all are so pressed. So I digress.
@@G-Ratedbecause this just means more weather seals to rot out and need replacing. Remember how the avalanche went away? It’s because they were impractical. I’ll stick to my 05 sierra 1500 lol.
every Avalanche no matter what year had the same mid gate
@@rodneybaca5132 Thats wasnt the point genius
even older than that....my 2002 Avalanche does the same thing!!!
This was really innovative, back in the early 2000's when they put it on the avalanche that almost no one who bought one actually used.
Exactly like a 2005 chevy avalanche. They couldn’t make it so the back window just rolls down (like in a tundra) so you don’t have to remove it.
I’m guessing Toyota has a design patent on that similar to how dodge has a design patent on their minivan seats that stow away and become completely flat.
That was by design.
You can let the mid gate down while keeping the window and bed cover in place, thus creating an enclosed bed space over eight feet long.
@@b22christhat’s like saying Toyota had a patent on the operation of a window inside of a door. I’m pretty sure the way Chevrolet did the glass will be more reliable down the long run with manually removing and reattaching the glass. It also probably allows for a lighter doorway with the lack of motors and electrical wiring for a powered window inside the divider which you’d lay flat.
@jakelee5456
If you look closely I looks like the back glass goes over a gasket on the seat so you can not put the seat down without removing the glass.
@@samuelsalas5713 just wait until more videos come out on the higher trim trucks and they show the different configurations available for the MultiFlex Midgate.
Nice. Perfect for when you have several 8 foot pieces of heavy wall pipe to haul, or something like that. See how that seat back holds up when you have to do a full brake application.
Whoever buys these things are going to love it when that back glass starts leaking around the seal
Would love one of these in ICE! The OG Avalanche/EXT was so practical with that mid gate, and with contemporary rear seat room this would be perfect for me!
If they got the seals right (unlike in the old Avalanche,) this seems like a great implementation. Between this, the "multi flex tailgate", and the 6' bed, this really is a versatile truck. Now if only it didn't have the Avalanche-like "flying buttresses" so a standard cap/camper could mount on it…
That'll be great during those freezing colorado winters
I don’t with the tonneau on and glass in place.
Works quite well.
Heater on high!
Maffoe is talking about how the Battery 🔋 will work/ fail in Colorado climate.... IMO
Always loved the Avalanche. They need to bring it back with ICE!
At first, I missed not having a longer bed on my truck. But, I realized how much better a utility trailer was anyway. I actually prefer the shorter beds and having a separate cargo area from the passenger area .
I got my 2013 Avalanche for that 😂
Works just like my ‘13 Avalanche.
With the tonneau in place and the glass in place, I can carry 4x8 sheets under cover with the tailgate closed.
Perfect for hauling gyproc in the rain!
Absolutely the most useable thing about it.
And I have gotten as low as 6.9 L/100 km for a full tank of fuel.
For our American friends, that’s 34 mpg.
At 55-65 mph.
I’ll keep this thing till it’s dead.
"That took about 15 seconds"
My stopwatch:
"actually....."
How to have unwanted debris inside your cab!
Oh look my 2002 Avalanche Northface does that with 310k on the dashboard, what a cool new feature 😎
I still think they should offer a plug-in hybrid version for people that are not ready to go full EV. I would be ready to purchase a plug-in pickup truck tomorrow!!!!
This should’ve been rebranded to the avalanche-Ev
Been there, done that with my Avalanche. 😂
Actually a nice way to have an extended bed without the extra long truck
Cool! A GM truck with a midgate that doesn't look like a faded 4-wheeled Rubbermaid trash can! They're making progress over there in Detroit.
When you need this, this is incredible. ALL trucks should have this! Well done GM
The Electrocuted Avalanche. Something that can kill you two different ways!!!!
Straight jacked the ridgeline and made the interior loud at the same time. Cool...
My Avalanche did the same thing & it wasn’t nearly as bad on the environment to build & operate.
Source: you made it up
After a couple years(3-5) of driving, you make up for it compared to ICE vehicle.
@jesualdocortez6426 Yeah, you make up for the fossil fuels burned in an ICE engine by plugging into the electrical power grid that is powered by fossil fuel! Soo much better! Then, you just throw the whole thing away because it isn't worth replacing the batteries. I'm sure the whole thing is biodegradable right?
I wonder how the seals do on dusty gravel roads and -30 blowing snow.
You may also be wondering how babies are made, I suppose... 🤔
Pure silliness
Perfect for a warm sunny day & terrible for every other day 😂
If I buy one , I'm taking the Silverado emblem off and I'm putting an Avalanche one on. I love my Avalanche, I would love this one too.
LOVE THIS TRUCK!!
That’s cool and all, but why waste all that money on an inferior electric power train instead of developing a gas or diesel electric hybrid that has the best of both?
Haha, you'll get there, just wait.
Because this qualifies for tax credit
I have on 07 Avalanche and it has no leaks whatsoever. I use this feature a lot as I help people move. No issues. I’d love a new one but not an EV..
1st. Really cool. 2. We need trucks to do work. Bring back an affordable bare bones, loud truck. Stamped metal, less plastic truck. Make it less than $20k
Incredibly smart design. Love it
If Chevy gets 500 mile ranges. I'm buying WT.
Now if we can get a bed shell for the bed. I would love this because I have five dogs to haul around
Well they took the "innovative" rear step from the Avalanche years ago, about time they brought it back properly w/the midgate. I had a 2003 Avalanche for many years, absolutely loved that truck. I didn't have the leak problems others reference, although my 4wd was glitchy all the time instead lol. My main issue was you didn't want to haul dirt/gravel/etc in the bed, it would clog up the drains and get into the midgate hinges/etc. I do think it's fairly comical they just brought it back as an EV. The RST price tag is pretty steep, will be interesting to see how it sells.
ngl that's kinda cool. You won't use it much, but when you need it, you'll be glad you have it.
This is the biggest requested feature for Cybertruck. Well done Chevrolet with the midgate, again. Dang..
Booyah 👊🏽 😁 👍🏽 🇺🇸
The Avalanche
Oh Boy!!! That looks really swelll!!!!
Wow incredible new technology my 2001 Chevrolet avalanche did the same thing
Would love something like this on an affordable truck (phev, please) for camping
Ahhh I miss my avalanche, it'd be dope if they brought back the avalanche but with the 3.0 diesel or the 6.2 as the only engine options
Yeah… trying to get the Avalanche back without calling it an Avalanche lol😂 Also, I feel like that rear window is going to leak.
Did GM finally come up with a solution for the water ingress from the mid gate? How about the cracking window frame!
Innovative, it's nearly identical right down the the latches to what my 20 yr old avalanche has, thus being said , it will leak everywhere.
I haven't even got mine yet and it's already in the shop
Its so innovative that its the same as the avalanche from a decade ago.
Thank you for you doing your part and supporting dangerous work conditions and Cobalt mining
I dream the day that chevrolet sell a rebuild set for those who still driving C10 from 87 below.
Give the avalanche its flowers please
Mid gates are very dangerous. I'd never want a bunch of 2 x 4's behind me and get rear ended
They NEED to have a bed tent available on day 1
That’s some awesome engineering!
That's much better than the 22 year old Avalanche system ... oh wait ! ... it's the same thing ! GM never stops innovating.
I love how everyone on here is like.. its a avalanche lol
Still waiting on my 2022 trail boss pre order
Love the mid-gate!!! With a tonnau cover my dogs can have more room to stretch their legs. This of course does come with hvac for rear seating area, right? Can put it on full blast to move air to bed area. When does this go into production & what will be the msrp?
Comes with a sensor to let you know exhaust fumes are coming in the cab. But no alarm because you'll already be dead.
I like the mini clips showing specific features.
That took longer to do than the battery will last on a charge.
Yep, should've never killed the avalanche. Perfect for plywood with the tailgate up or 12 lumber with it down.
After you remove the rear window can the rear seats be erected and occupied with the window stored behind them?
Can you fold the midgate down with the glass in place and use a bed cover to keep everything sealed from the elements?
Why not make the window on the midgate power retractable? It would make it easier, less chance of breaking, and would be nice to open while driving. Just saying
That’s a avalanche. No one can change my mind!
Is it 5' 11" inch total with the back laid down? Or 5-11 in the regular bed?
Chevy- rehashing an idea from 2003 (and truck model that died) 20+ years later
Reviewers- "how cool is that?!"
I like my electric rear window in my tundra better, to each his own.
I wish they'd bring back with a gasoline or their 3.0 diesel motor. So disappointed that they didn't continue making the Avalanche. Owned a 2006 Avalanche and planned on buying another one then GM dropped them.
The only drawback is that you have to buy a 10k + lbs vehicle to have that feature…
This guy hates his life.
Not into the mid gate, id rather just get a longer bed. But i REALLY lile the idea of a removable rear windshield.
So if you brake, loose stuff could slide into the driver???
Bring back the 2500 Avalanche too.
I can just imagine all the air and water leaks after a couple years. A nightmare to fix if you get into any accident.
Exactly the same way as the infamous Avalanche. Which they Need to bring back.
Inovative. Just like an Avalanche from 2001.
Why didn’t they have the glass roll down inside instead of taking it out?
Station wagons did and that was a long time ago.
Cadillac should do the same thing even though debuting the Escalade in a electric SUV should also be a electric SUT as well.🙏⚡⚡⚡
Impressive
Wow this is so 2002 Chevy Avalanche, amazing😂😂😂
A nice place to sleep while your broke down 🙌
I see nothing pretty much changed on the design of the mid gate I wonder did they address the water leaking issues the first and second gen avalanche had
Why is this replacing a Silverado? It’s literally an avalanche
Ever drive with the rear slider open with debris or dirt in the bed? It all blows forward and is a mess. Maybe I'd use this option if I was hauling some clean linens. 😂. I can see/hear all the leaks and window rattles that ensue.
Eventually trucks will evolve into....station wagons.
Do recalls and many other issues come with that there truck as well?
So, basically a feature you will never use but you only have to give up a more functional folding back seat that you would use frequently…. Awesome on so many levels
Removing the rear window like that... why not have a power rear window like the tundra?
This probably Works great if the front seats are all the way forward. I’ll bet taller guys will not be comfortable with where the front seat has to sit for this feature.
I have to handle the window each and every time? 😂😊
Gm has had some bad ideas over the years. But this is not one of them, hopefully they fixed the seal problem. I will always have a ford pickup, but would be interested in an avalanche.
Yeah look at that window seal sticking up after they lay down the gate... can't wait to slide plywood over that rubber and tear it.
So what about: AC/Heating, Insects, Rain, Security?
Innovation from early 2000s.
I am sure they took precautions but i can just see a bumpy road or a bag of sand being tossed on to where the rear glass goes breaking it and you are paying for a $700 window that no one makes yet
