Absolutely fantastic! Olga felt every note of that epic performance. The emotions she evoked were clear: pain, joy, sadness, despair. Her voicings were perfect, she has a special talent for it in my opinion. She has a certain quality, and captures little things in the music, which I don't hear in other performances of virtually every piece I have heard her play. Very special.
Chopin used music as a vehicle to express his emotions , longing and love for his country . Thus , it is not enough to be virtuoso to convey an essence of his music. You need to love it and be passionate while playing it. I can hear it in Olga's interpretation and it makes it timeless.

I find it almost unfathomable that a person can play a ten minute long classical piece effortlessly without sheet music, not making any mistakes I can discern. How does one possess so much talent? Of course much credit is due to a lifetime spent practicing. She truly has the passion and dedication any gold medalist Olympic athlete has. I just am in awe . . .
More like how does one practice that much, and of course much credit to talent. With as much practice as being a world class pianist requires, knowing a piece by heart is a tiny step of the journey of getting it ready for performing.
In my teens, I would have rejected this interpretation. Today I find it enjoyable if a step or two away from thrilling. Perhaps having attempted this tortuous ballade and knowing how difficult even the "easy" bars are to perfectly execute, I have more respect for those whose interpretations are so different from my own. I do agree with those who question the quality of the audio engineering. I doubt that the problem was the piano itself, though the audience was not as animated as one can expect to see with the best performances of this emotional blockbuster, so perhaps issues with the piano did play some part here.
This is one of the only piano compositions that I listen to regularly. I have found that there are nothing but extraordinary artists who would post their versions of this ballade on TH-cam, which guarantees that every time I listen to one of them I am getting to hear some of the best living artists the world has to offer. I do not know this for sure- but I would still bet that if I were to look up any of the commenters who have something negative to say about this (or realistically, any TH-cam) artist's version of ballade 1 here... I would not be able to find a single one of them who has the ability to post their own version on youtube, or anywhere else. Weird, how that works out. This one above is first rate, in every sense of that term. Every second I've spent listening here was worthwhile... and thank you.

The best part about this performance is how Olga is visibly happy playing this piece. Just watching her be so overjoyed made me happy as well!
