Not sure what it's like with more sidewall but on 13" wheels, having red dots all round feels too firm (I'm young and thought I could tollerate a harsher ride) - makes very small bumps feel very jarring but feels better over more harsh bumps. Think I'm going to swap my rear red dots to evo cones instead.
Hey bud, yep sure can buy brand new! Check them out on the minisport Australia website. They’re the only ones I use now given the previous dramas I’ve had with other styles. Hope this helps, Tomo
@@Tomostuneups hi again thanks for the reply yes your right they do sell them pity minisport in England don't also I've just seen your video on your cutting the ripspeed ones down, the old ones don't have the nut with them and to adjust them you insert a 3/8 allen key from the top
@@garytaylor1929 no dramas mate. Yep, they have an Allen key in the top of them, with a locking nut on the base of the cone. It’s worth while unloading the suspension before making any adjustments to save it damaging anything. Worth while ensuring that you fill it with grease as well to ensure they don’t seize (like mine did)
Hi, how do you stop the rear hi-los and donuts coming apart when the car is jacked up (no weight on the suspension)? Do you know what I mean? Thanks 👍 l’ve just watched another one of you videos - is the minimum ride height determined by the bar at its minimum full length when there is no load on the car?
Hey mate, thanks for the comment and great question! Sadly the classic mini doesn’t have drop out cones from preventing them falling out when jacking it up when Hilo’s are fitted and has lowered suspension. The only way I’ve found to do it, other than having a second person monitor them when lowering it back onto the ground, is to set the ride height a little bit higher so it doesn’t lift off the rear seat as much when it’s under full droop. Ride height is determined from factory from HTG (hub to guard). Regardless of tyre size or inflation pressure as this will never change this measurement. How to check: 1) place vehicle on flat level surface 2) ensure pressures are correct front and rear 3) measure centre of hub to guard front and rear and record measurements 4 vehicle should have rake (rear higher than front) 5) compare measurements to standard specs. 6) adjust accordingly (This is assuming other suspension components are OKAY and are in normal working order) This can be easily adjusted using HiLo’s to suit the desired height, however, like you pointed out, the cones at the rear can be a pain to refit when it’s lowered and the vehicle is under full droop (such as on a hoist or jack). I hope this helps and answers your question. Feel free to hit me up on insta if you need further assistance 👌🏼 Tomo
The shock should do this. If you have it quite low, then you might want to get some lowered shocks, as the standard ones are probably able to extend too much making them fall out of position. The shock is the only thing that stops the cones falling out of position when jacked up.
Actually thought of putting red dots on mine coz i saw a video saying that it's actually more comfortable and linear over various different bumps and forums even say that, but i heard there's actually two different red dots, but is there tho? Is red spot an entirely different cone from red dot? Not sure which one to get.
@@Elijah-cy9do Hey mate, so Grace runs a little firm due to having the red dot cones fitted, but she’s also running adjustable lowered shocks. I’ve not heard of the red spot cones, as they’re usually just a small red dot on the cone done with paint. Unsure if there’s any actually difference or if they’ve just been marked wrong. These are a good option to run to upgrade the suspension, but as I stated, it does compromise ride comfort if you’re used to the standard classic mini handling of either wet suspension or the EVO cones. Hope this helps mate, Tomo
Good info dude!! I thought the hole was for a grease fitting, but a drain hole makes sense…
Nice explanation Tomo👍
Just got my first Mini this week so this is a huge help. Mine bounces like crazy. 1997 JDM car.
I literally had no idea there are different kinds of cones and high lows ! When I get new ones I’ll refer back to the video for sure ! Cheers man 👌

hi can you get new ripspeed ones because I thought they made in the 70,s 80 s and if you want them you have to get second hand ones
