110%. As well as the ability to pull some g's in the corners. 60mph feels like 150.

The great part of driving a Mini is being so small you can use all the lane like a race track, hitting apex’s and shortening the corners is a blast!! Great build

Agreed! Back in the 80s I had a Fiat X1/9. Slow on the straights but you couldn’t catch me in the curves! A single lane feels like 2 in these small cars.

I was a Mini guy back in the day and for over 40years. I had them all. I ended with a Turbo Mini 850 with a fiully worked, ported and heavily modified racing street sleeper with about as much power as this thing. I even had the same Webasto Sunroof! But I think this is waaaay better. That Honda engine would have been blasphemy back in the day. But this has made it really fun again. Hats off to the creator designer and engineers that built it....and thanks AUTOPIA for throwing this up on InnerTube.

@@Deadpool__1 LOL> Hard to imagine there was life before you right? I left out the part about the engine being a 1330 Cooper S engine that revved to 9Krpm and was turbo'd, NOS and meth fed. Still looked like a standard black 1961 Mini 850 Deluxe, but was completely modified in every way underneath. I was getting 200BHP at the wheels in those days.

@@doraexplora9046 What do you mean life before me ? I'm 57 and I have a cooper 1293 built by Keith Calver, which makes 93 bhp. Swiftune nor Med mini have never got close the figures your'e quoting. Engines with the BMW k1200 head 16v only make 160 bhp. Think you've had to much Meth not the mini lol 🤣

@@Deadpool__1 I double down. I built a 1150cc Minimatic which was heavily modified with a Graham Russel head, and flowed right through the entire induction through to exhaust and IT made 115wBHP. We must be talking different horses because 93BHP dyno is VERY average, if not poor. Is it 1293 with bog pistons, std internals etc. Then I might believe. The only thing Swiftune impressed me with was their stroked motors. 1430CC was mad big. So big they had to shave the g'box. Now that's big! But otherwise they specialised i production line motors for the most part. I think the S came out with about 85BHP (claimed) which was more like 55BHP and at the wheel more like 40wBHP. So getting it to 93wBHP is still pretty good. But you can do that with COTS parts (commercial Of The Shelf).

"Add lightness" - said Colin Chapman. You get improved acceleration, improved handling AND improved breaking. Simply adding HP can't do all that.
My 2006 Mini Cooper S (gen. 1 "new" Mini) is not NEARLY as tiny as this car. Put an original Mini beside my "new" Mini and my car looks huge! (Yet, next to "BMW Minis" my car looks tiny!)
I built my car to 210 HP. It weighs 2600 lbs. I can only IMAGINE how much fun this old-timer must be with it's much better power-to-weight ratio.
    Awesome car Sep. Well done!

I had a 61 Mini that was modded like that but with a 1275 Austin motor with twin SU carbs. Every road became a racetrack. You get accustomed to the size and it doesn't feel that small until you park it next to something else. The trunk lid hinges down and the license plate hangs down so you can drive with big packages. It also fits in parking spaces that others can fit which is great in a city. This car layout of transverse FWD became the standard for small cars later. All hail Sir Alec Issigonis!

The1275 Cooper S was rated at 75bhp (SAE) and when installed that fell to around 65bhp. To get 110bhp back in the day would mean tuning it to race spec with split Webers and the like that would be undriveable on the road. My mate and I used to take it in turns Road Rallying, him driving and me navigating in his 1293 Mini that gave an honest 90bhp and vice versa in my Hillman Imp 875/998cc. Without doubt my Imp was quicker as the results showed.

That brings back many memories of my youth - very sweet ride!
It may have been registered, or re-shelled in '70, but it's the series 1 body, they changed in 67/68 to the series 2 with the square tail-lights and different front grill.
We had an early series 2 in the late sixties/early seventies, and a later Series 3 (RIP), with the wind-up windows, after that - it also had a bigger fuel tank, which may be an option for the owner if it's not running the Cooper/S dual tanks.
i would STRONGLY recommend the owner to give some serious contemplation to having a full front cage - the "crumple zone" is basically the passenger compartment, as there is VERY(!) little strength in the front pillars under impacts.

Yep, had one in a similar colour and body scheme with a swapped out 1330 engine. White 8 spoke steel 10 inch wheels with 165/70 tires. The engine was originally 1275cc, as in classic Mini Coopers. I bought it from a friend, who bought it from someone else ........ My friend was running a double glazing business and never had time to drive the little beast. So £500 changed hands and I used it till I broke it! Seems the radiator was never upgraded, so it was "in" the left hand wheel arch, which was fine for 35bhp. So the big-ish engine, with it's big carb, limped home with a hole in number 2 piston. Cosworth pistons I found out next weekend when I stripped the cylinder head off to find a holy hole Batman!
The pistons were so expensive I allowed the garage dude that built the motor to keep it and we replaced it with a stock Mini 1000. We put the big carb on the replacement engine and it was still kind of fun to drive, but just didn't give that wheelspin in 3rd gear I was used to. 😢😁😎👍

Back in the early to mid eighties a good friend built a Minu to compete in auto X and Solo 1. It too had 13x7 wheels in it. The owner was 6’6” tall and I’m 6’4” tall. One time we drove up to tech insp for an event and when we got out the people there were shocked into silence. I guess they didn’t think two guys our size would fit 😀
That was such a fun fast little car. Narrow courses felt very wide in a Mini

Great seeing a big displacement guy realise how much fun a VTec is especially in a lightweight vehicle. You just got to learn to keep it in the high revs to get that VTEC. If you watch mini racing in the UK they are so much fun to watch and give for bigger cars so much grief cuz they handle so brilliantly

What a cool combo. I can imagine it makes just enough power. I really like the b-series engines. They are a blast, and reliable. I really want to do a grown man's ek sedan build with a nice, stout B18C. IBc's, nice suspension set up...

Not a Type R engine if from a Civic Si, Type R is B16B an Si is B16A2 and there is a 20hp difference between them not to mention a taller block, longer rods and different cam profile. Forgot to say MCM's Moog has a Mini with an actual JDM Civic Type R motor in it, happens to be a JDM Mini too.

I get a good chunk of the people that watch this channel are V8 only type of people and i love american V8s just as much as y'all but honda motors are insanely capable. These honda motors are the LS swaps of 4 Cylinders. They make decent power too for how small they are.
