I was a Mini guy back in the day and for over 40years. I had them all. I ended with a Turbo Mini 850 with a fiully worked, ported and heavily modified racing street sleeper with about as much power as this thing. I even had the same Webasto Sunroof! But I think this is waaaay better. That Honda engine would have been blasphemy back in the day. But this has made it really fun again. Hats off to the creator designer and engineers that built it....and thanks AUTOPIA for throwing this up on InnerTube.

You have to love a Mini, even with a Honda engine in it.
    Original 850cc Mini in 1959 made 34bhp .. lol
In 1964 when Paddy Hopkirk won the Monte Carlo Rally, he had 76bhp! ( Beat the Falcon Sprint on index of performance. )

The great part of driving a Mini is being so small you can use all the lane like a race track, hitting apex’s and shortening the corners is a blast!! Great build

"Add lightness" - said Colin Chapman. You get improved acceleration, improved handling AND improved breaking. Simply adding HP can't do all that.
My 2006 Mini Cooper S (gen. 1 "new" Mini) is not NEARLY as tiny as this car. Put an original Mini beside my "new" Mini and my car looks huge! (Yet, next to "BMW Minis" my car looks tiny!)
I built my car to 210 HP. It weighs 2600 lbs. I can only IMAGINE how much fun this old-timer must be with it's much better power-to-weight ratio.
    Awesome car Sep. Well done!

Very true - but if you could put that first 'new' Mini (R50) next to the current Mini Countryman (F55?)... It's not just far bigger again, in every dimension, than the 2001 variety - it's taller, wider and heavier than even my Subaru Outback! 🤯

I had a 61 Mini that was modded like that but with a 1275 Austin motor with twin SU carbs. Every road became a racetrack. You get accustomed to the size and it doesn't feel that small until you park it next to something else. The trunk lid hinges down and the license plate hangs down so you can drive with big packages. It also fits in parking spaces that others can fit which is great in a city. This car layout of transverse FWD became the standard for small cars later. All hail Sir Alec Issigonis!

Anyone who's British and over 45 has probably had an original' Mini at some point in their life. My first two cars were tuned Minis and I think they literally saved my life with their amazing handling as a lunatic new 17 year old driver back in the late 80s. Mine were constantly trying to turn back into iron oxide but you have the climate there to stop that. Lovely car.

If you watch any of the Goodwood classic races on TH-cam, you often see a nip and tuck race between a six litre Ford Falcon and a 998cc mini, snapping at its heels. The Falcon pulls away on the straights and the mini catches up through the bends, its amazing racing to watch. This years racing is actually taking place this weekend so there will be lost of classic racing to watch live.

The1275 Cooper S was rated at 75bhp (SAE) and when installed that fell to around 65bhp. To get 110bhp back in the day would mean tuning it to race spec with split Webers and the like that would be undriveable on the road. My mate and I used to take it in turns Road Rallying, him driving and me navigating in his 1293 Mini that gave an honest 90bhp and vice versa in my Hillman Imp 875/998cc. Without doubt my Imp was quicker as the results showed.

That brings back many memories of my youth - very sweet ride!
It may have been registered, or re-shelled in '70, but it's the series 1 body, they changed in 67/68 to the series 2 with the square tail-lights and different front grill.
We had an early series 2 in the late sixties/early seventies, and a later Series 3 (RIP), with the wind-up windows, after that - it also had a bigger fuel tank, which may be an option for the owner if it's not running the Cooper/S dual tanks.
i would STRONGLY recommend the owner to give some serious contemplation to having a full front cage - the "crumple zone" is basically the passenger compartment, as there is VERY(!) little strength in the front pillars under impacts.

It had an air leak on the Exhaust at the front and a large 40-DCOE Weber Side Draft Carb, that stuffed tons of fuel in. If you timed it right, when you let off of the throttle at high revs, you would get an immense fireball out of the tail pipe. It would hit 105 mph.

I know I am really old, however in the mid sixties I owned a near stock mini 850 -twin SUs and a 2 inch straight exhaust. I frightened hell out my mates round corners. Valves bounced at 86 mph.

Mighty Car Mods have a classic mini with a Honda B16, fascinating to see what was involved to make it work without cutting the front clip end off! They have a full build series on it for those that are interested.

One of my mates mates who used to blow everyone in the twisties in his modern tuned mini cooper s, tried to stay behind my built evo 9 in a canyon. I taught him a life lesson he'll never forget. I did let him catch up after i stopped to clean the wind screen 😉

Hey Shawn, Awesome Just Freaking Awesome. That Mini is a Happy Car because it makes everyone smile. And when you get to see the modifications it just gets your wheels turning. Funny thing is you can hold a conversation without the exhaust drowning you out. I bet you could put a 150hp bottle on that and get about 225hp. Without it doing anything to the internals. Actually I’m jealous of that Fun Machine. I bet if I put a FHP Trooper in there they would just crack up with smiles. Awesome Video Great Build Thanks for Making My Day!!!

My mum has owned x 6 Classic mini's.
I had an R53 JCW With 300bhp Supercharged tuned at 1320 St Neots UK.
    Mini torque Forum UK.
Mini R53 Project 007, was the fastest mini in the UK on a standard m45 Eaton supercharger 17 percent pulley catcams, 550c injectors Big Valve head just under 300bhp 166mph top speed from a 1.6 tritec engine.
ive been in a b16a2 engine swap classic mini, but a k20 would be savage.

Why, Sir...I do believe you've soiled your armour! 😂 I'm building a 1600/510 Datsun running SR20 VCT, non-turbo. This kind of content makes me smile...as does the look of fear on the face of someone accustomed to much larger cars 😁
