Good trade on both sides
1. Nets need to tear it down and start a 2-3 year build and see what they can make of it. 4-5 first round picks will help. Just copy OKC and they should be fine in the east.
2 The Knicks get a guy who does best as a 3rd option and can now be the elite 2 way player that he is beforehand. He showed it in PHX. Can defend multiple positions . Shoot 3s at an over 40 clip. While also being able to give there main scorers relief with random spurts of 25-35 point games.
Good breakdown. Hes also very durable which takes pressure off injury prone Annunoby (if he stays) and less minutes for Hart, Divencenzo etc
A lot of pics traded from the knicks, but I trust Leon Rose's process because when I thought he was wrong, he was right before.
If the Knicks resign Anunoby & Hartenstein, then this might be the best Knicks team of this millennium.

The Durant trade was for Cameron Johnson + Mikal Bridges + 4 x 1st round picks, AND only happened because Durant forced himself out. By comparison, the Bridges trade is relatively close in terms of proportionality. Additionally, multiple teams were bidding for Bridges, and I am willing to bet that the Knicks needed this trade as insurance in case OG walks.
I was looking at Brooklyn and Utah thinking, what are they doing? Meh, Bridges trade request change that for Brooklyn. Now it's Utah, what the heck are they doing?

Why not trade Randall? They function well without him and seemed to win more games with OG on the floor. Also, the Knicks shouldn't have gave up so much draft capital for Bridges if you believe in Randall. It was almost a desperate move.

Getting Mikel is huge, if they also keep OG and IH. Because if they have all three of those guys alongside Brunson/Randle/Hart/Donte, they can put squads out there that are both offensively and defensively talented. A Brunson, Mikel, OG, Randle, IH starting five would decimate teams, especially with Hart/Donte coming off the bench. This could be what gets the Knicks to be great, but if OG leaves. They are basically the same team as they were last year

According to Ian Bagley, Bridges was prepared to force his way to Knicks so i am surprised they got this much of an overpay for him. This is def a 150% return imo. He is really good but not this good. If he was so good Nets would have still at least made the play-in. But what he is, is a 3rd best piece on a chip roster.
Would you give this much for Donovan Mitchell? I think the price was similar… Utah wanted 7 picks but Knicks only offered 3, then Cavs swooped in with 3 picks, 2 swaps, and a few players.
@@fsshue8657 In general yes. If i were the knicks would i give that much for Spida? No. He doesn't fit with Brunson. Two small guards who cannot play defense. But for other teams that seems about right. The magic desperately need an offensive punch like Spida with their top 3 defense. They have the picks and other salaries to make a trade work. But i think he just re-signed an extension today so he is not eligible to be traded for 6 months now.
ultimately, it’s a depth pick up who’s a starter/contributor… we’d have to give up more for a star as far as actual talent on the roster.. so why gut the team for potential and name cache?
You’re forgetting chemistry & fit in the NBA. Point being: a guy like Randle is 3x allstar. By that logic hes not just a “3rd option” like Bridges- BUT, how many contenders would choose to take Randle over Bridges
3 and D is the most valuable piece in the league right now. Theres hardly any wings like Bridges. Fits on every team in the league
Houston had leverage given they have Nets pick but also were interested in Bridges.
NYK basically had to overpay with picks given they're sending nothing in terms of player assets (only Bogie who's an expiring)
As a Celtics fan, a healthy Knicks team was already going to be a problem. Getting Bridges makes them a threat to the entire NBA and not just the Celtics. Well done, Knicks.

Can we get a more detailed explanation for what it means to trade a swap. If team A has the right to swap with team B can team C just make a trade with team A and now have the rights to swap with team B? This seems obviously exploitable. Why wouldn't the team with the 30th pick in the draft always trade for a swap from some other team right before the draft?
