  • Joel Embiid's dominant post-up game and his improved shooting touch have made him into perhaps the most imposing force in the NBA. In this episode of Signature Shots, ESPN analyst Kirk Goldsberry examines the evolution of the Philladelphia 76ers star, who is both a throwback to an older era and a sign of the game's progress.

This next round is where you’re going to see that they should’ve traded for Kyle Lowry and just for this year specifically. They’re one shooter away and need it especially for Brooklyn. They might get lucky and beat them but I doubt it. They need more shooters.

@@PabloSolim2006 luka isn’t in great shape. I don’t see his body lasting. He gets dinged up a lot, he’s playing heavy minutes, and he’s struggles with his weight. I think he needs to go holler at harden. Harden has found a great medium to keep his weight in check, and avoid major injuries for years. People forget how chubby harden was in hs. He shed a lot of that weight and maintained himself pretty well for a long time. Jokic maybe yeah. He may keep up enough to play a bit longer. Giannis is a mystery. He could flatline quicker than we think due to how physically demanding his game is at that size, ala Dwight Howard, or he could be Superman like bron. Hard to tell.

We see the trend of long lasting players and its always the athletic players that doesnt rely on their athleticism or developed their game to not overly rely on it.
Kareem was athletic but didnt rely on his athleticism, vince carter is super athletic but changed his game to not rely on his athleticism, kg jkidd kobe etc are all like that. There are some exceptions true but most of them are athletic players who still relied in their athletic abilities. The only "non athletic" player i can think of that had crazy longevity was john stockton.

He scores with such ease and you can’t force him to be one dimensional because he shoots a respectable 3 ball, has the post moves, hits jumpers, and smart enough to beat the double team too. As talented as you are gonna get a big but again as usual men of this size, it’s always about durability, moving all that weight around isn’t easy which is why injuries have plagued him, but I hope he stays fit because the NBA is absolutely entertaining and better when he’s fit. He’s got an old school mentality with modern day skills.

There are players who are better in individual aspects of the game but Embiid has a counter move for any defense AND he gives it up defensively as well. He's now 27 years old with a son, has a championship coach who holds him accountable and just needed time to grow up as a man FIRST then as a player. Of course health plays a big part with him but I believe he's grown into his man body and will hold up. He ain't the only superstar who goes on the shelf for stretches. I love Joel Embiid and I believe he will deliver several championships to our city.

I know this is an old comment; but Hakeem is very much alive and well. He's in great shape and still mentors players at his personal gym. Out of all the retired 90s greats, hes probably the healthiest looking.
Bill Russell is alive and still sits courtside at NBA events. Hes looking old; but mentally is all there.

You can thank Doc for getting after him regarding his conditioning and diet. Embiid's always had the talent but never had anyone in the league push him before Doc showed up. Look back at previous post-season games, you'll see him stumbling down the court, utterly gassed after 10-12min of playtime - NOW he's able to persevere, play through full quarters without blowing like a busted bellows. That's 100% Doc Rivers' input... Next up is some roster swaps and we might actually see them in the Finals

  • @charleseithreimv

Embiids improved 3pt percentage is because he’s not taking as many. He had to take more in years past cause the spacing was off. He’s always been a great shooter the new system just highlighted it.

Do you see how ESPN patronizes the Sixers. We beat the Wizards yesterday, the same Wizards ESPN raved about for the last 5 weeks of the season. Tobi goes off, Embiid on the recieving end of 2 horrible fouls calls that let him on the bench, Ben Simmons Playoff career high in assist, George Hill clutch and they not once talked about it on any of their stations. When they do its a gloom quick post about The Wizards losing and not about the sixers winning. Then you post some old Docu on Embiid on TH-cam. This money hungry driven NBA/Media Bias against the Sixers has got to Stop. We know they will do everything to keep the Sixers from winning a championship with players we tanked to get. KNOCK IT OFF!

What Embiid needs to do, is not doing all these post moves, just go for a easy hook shot. Yes it's a hard to defend shot, but it puts too much strain on his ankle and knee, he is nimble enough to not directly get hurt but for how long? Remember KD used to do the killer crossover then tilt his body going to the basket? It was too a great move impossible to defend, yet the direct result of that is his Jones fracture, injuries come from moves that're either close to or over your atheletic ability (and that's why Lebron doesn't get hurt for flying around, his ceiling is way too high).
Embiid is so good in an age not for centres (at least for another 3-4 years) he does not need to try that hard, easy hook shot with no extra movement to make sure he doesn't get hurt from post moves is the way.

My favourite player is Nikola Jokic but i will say that the best Center is Embidd. He does it on both ends.

Funny how the play styles rotate in the NBA.
Teams using lots of bigs crowding the key? Get some 3 point shooters
Most teams in the game slowly getting rid of post moves and playing more ‘small ball’ style? Get a 7 foot monster to bully them.

  • @timeflies313

Embiid is a great player no doubt, but the thing that makes me appreciate the sixers less is the fact that they are unproven. Yes, you could say the argument that their whole roster compared to last year when they got SWEPT was changed for the better, from the players all the way to the head coach, but you have to remember other teams in the east also did that. Milwaukee and Brooklyn are not the same teams from the past seasons too. They also got upgrades. The sixers have to atleast get to the finals this year in order for people to respect them. Same thing for the Utah Jazz and the Phoenix Suns, they might be the top two teams in the west but they are unproven, that is why people hesitate to put either of them as heavy favorites to win the title.

What I've started to realize is that Embiid is an average post up player, he's just capable of playing isolation in the post, there's a differece.
He's as big as Shaq but he plays all the Kobe moves. He sizes opponents up for a while and then decide what move he's going to use, that's great for one on one but not too great for team basketball.

Being completely honest you missed the fact that Jokic is just as efficient with only slightly less post up scores then Embiid. Jokic just passes out of the post up a lot but looking at Jokic and AD from the lakers he’s not that special in terms of post up efficiency. This was an overblown fact
