TL;DR: one small step towards making losing against heroes feel okay and respectable instead bad. Imo changes were needed to follow “feels good to play AGAINST sym”… Speaking for most players (not top players): 1) her previous damage orbs kinda absurd and at close range too easy to aim and impossible to dodge with how fat they were… high skill floor. 2) infinite tp promotes WRONG TOXIC PLAYSTYLE: using for faster respawns being setup once and forgetting. Especially for defense the tp will be so far behind enemy lines, that it’s very difficult to coordinate and spend time tracking it down. Too much free value for bad players. They got rid of shield generator for same reason that enemies had hard time tracking it down when it’s not near objective. 3) regen ammo on barrier makes her a hard counter to the few remaining barriers in the game. Feels bad. And her beam is supposed to be rewarding to finding a way to charge up… not guaranteed because there’s no ammo waste on barriers. Too high skill floor. 4) turret slow stacks… always feels bad against stacked turrets hidden in choke bushes. Minor slow nerf is fine especially with projectile velocity buff. 5) ult wall is also the best ult in the game and combined with any other cheesy high skill floor, makes sym a pain to play against instead of respect THE SAD TRUTH: Imo they rightfully made sym a skill hero respectable when winning and doesn’t feel bad against her… Is she nerfed too much? Probably. But most important to note is that they HAVENT NERFED ALL THE HIGH SKILL FLOOR MECHANICS OF OTHER HEROES. Like it’s great that Cassidy and mei and brig no longer have easy close range stuns. But the remaining high skill floors need addressing for game to feel good and respectable when losing instead of broken heroes… Genii deflect too strong! Genii range to spammable, genii ult too unstoppable, bob aim bot, soldier aim bot, soldier should not have heals, sombra emp makes no sense and they’ve reworked her specialist nature into straight boring damage (might as well delete her), pharaoh needs more “foot steps” sounds while flying (she’s not meant to flank so easily), mercy pocketing feels so bad when she keeps getting buffed specifically towards it, mercy rez needs to go, Moira skill orb needs to go, Moira piercing ult mechanic op, why so many speed boost ult?, and new support hp regen is so annoying for most players that fail to target healers first. /rant

I actually find Sym to be a great counterpick against tanks like Dva and Orisa because her beam goes though their absorbing abilities (matrix and spin). Makes them very easy to pressure and melt. They also brought back her infinite-ammo on barriers gimmick which I absolutely hate and makes her braindead easy...
All the people who say that “Sym was really hard to play against” will probably say that about any hero they don’t use because she was definitely not hard to play against (especially in high ranks) and with 1 less tank she was already a lot less useful in overwatch 2 as her beam was more difficult to charge up.
Make her turrets prioritize targeting of a player with less than 25% health and do +50%-100% damage against such a target. Would make them useful executioners punishing enemies for overextending and you could do fun microwave stuff if a single turret would be able to finish a 50 HP target who thought she'd be safe waiting for a healer behind a corner. Would also help finish Tracers in 1v1s if an orb + slap won't do it anymore. And make TP permanent. It is one of the defining elements of her kit and being able to setup a good offensive TP allows her to do fun and unique stuff like double orbs that can catch the enemy off guard.
Please for the love of God can she be a support half her abilities are support abilities her ultimate is not a dps ultimate I've seen people in the comments saying that she shouldn't be healer I completely disagree she needs to desperately be healer the developers cannot figure out what to do with her as a damage hero I think they'd have a easier time figuring out what to do with her as a Healer besides we need more healers anyway

Agree. I’m also hopeful to see less bad sym players abusing her broken mechanics for 2cp. Giving sym a bad name. If these changes stay without too much stray, then when the player base rarely encounters a sym, it will be a sym that deserves their rank instead of being boosted by a few of her broken mechanics in a few maps.

You can literally TP out in 1 second now. It has saved me countless of times compared to the old version.
