I'm a barebow archer about a year into my club journey, I found this video very informative, so I liked and subbed. Barebow in the uk needs a big push because there's not enough of it going on and doesn't seem to be taken seriously, but I believe it demands more respect than the other categories. I intend to help this process along as best i can eventually. Thank you coach 🏹
Where I live in Gloucestershire, it’s hard finding anywhere that caters for it. The place I have found is being asked more and more about it but have no real experience in it.
@@thefenrisianssweatshop Well I'm the only barebow archer at my club and one dude sometimes brings his longbow, but everyone is either full gadget recurve or compound. It's funny how they ask me about my form and bow style a lot more than I ask them about theirs 😁. However, my coach knows enough about to help me in my development. If you haven't already I would suggest to look on you tube at string walking and gap shooting videos. They have helped me out, I tend to use gap shoot aiming method for shorter distances and string walking for longer distances like 40-50 yards or metres. Feel free to ask me any questions, I'm no expert yet, but I can try and help 🙂🏹
Please, if it is possible, make a video about how to set up a rest and a plunger you recomended. I mean what should it look like? How does the arrow shaft contacts the rest and the plunger? Thank you in advance!

Great break down on how to invest wisely in equipment. I have the shibuya dx and find it awesome. I gap and dont need the ability to microtune but love your hack. I gave up on stick on rests ages ago. I have a Spiga MAP and very happy with it. Less so with Spiga's after sales service but hey that could've been a one off.
Great video! On another note, I have went from a Beiter (did not like the tapered barrel, which makes getting centershot difficult... mine did not come with different length buttons), tried a Wifler MP-2 (didn't fit my riser with a bolt on rest, button movement was NOT smooth), to an AAE Master then an AAE Gold. The carbon rod tips with the AAE Gold that have a metal interior base would also hang when the plunger is pressed off axis... I sent it back to AAE and got another one, and it did it as well. So I took the all stainless button (with replaceable plastic tips) from my AAE Master and it fits in the Gold perfect, and now the plunger is smooth. Like you said, price does not always dictate quality.
I agree with the Shibuya, a great beginner’s button. I eventually upgraded to the zniper zextant. As far as rests go keep going back to the aae free flyte elite but they seem to be no longer listed on the aae website.
My impression with the Zniper rest is that if its dropping under the pressure of a long walk and not dropping on a short walk then im not hitting it hard enough to worry (me) about any contact, I am planning to switch back to the spig rest to see what has changed having shot the drop rest for a while, One issue with the Zniper many people have is that they persistently have the rest dropping during setup and acquiring a crawl (I set mine a little heavy and have noticed no issues and it doesn't randomly drop in setup) Would've really liked to get a spig drop BB rest to play with (all resistance magnets, but couldn't find one when I wanted one )
I replaced an AAE FF Elite rest with a Zniper for Barebow shooting with a Gillo GT riser and Gillo GTL-88 limbs. *I will emphasize from the get-go that for the most part this is Not a rest for the novice.* The Zniper was easy for me to setup, works flawlessly for all distances and crawls, easy to tune arrows, zero fletching clearance issues, and improved scoring particularly at the longer targets out to 50m. What I like best about it is that for the skinny 4.2mm shafts there are no wire rest issues hitting the plunger ferrule (Beiter, in my case) because the skinny shafts need to be raised up real close to the plunger button's center and not allow the wire to get flush to the riser upon release, as happens with wire rests that fold inward (AAE FFL, Spig ZT, etc). What I don't like about the Zniper is ... nothing, so far.
I don’t doubt your experiences with the Zniper; I certainly have no qualms against the product. I myself have shot some of my personal bests using one. However it takes a certain minimum level of shooting ability and consistency to be able to set it up and tune, (which I suspect you have based on what you’ve written thus far in comments) and most beginners do not have that; for this reason I stand by my position that it should not be favored for beginners just starting out.

But once a Zniper is "tuned" it's the cat's meow, at least for me. I would like to say that I am absolutely appreciative of your Barebow instructional vids. You surely have a superb teaching style, too - just flawless presentations. I direct my "students" to your YT channel, and they all agree that yours is the clearest and easiest to comprehend and utilize in their personal Barebow journeys.
Small mistake, but it can be important! There is a copper ring on the Shibuya plunger's pressure adjustment screw on which the spring rests. If the screw is fully unscrewed, it will fall off. The screw conversion is good, but this part also needs to be converted. This is so that the spring does not touch the inner side.
This is not as much a concern as you think it is. The barrel interior is polished smooth. When mated to the knurled end piece, the spring and the adjustment screw are captured in this polished area, and the outer diameter of the screw is large enough to fill the majority of the inner diameter of the barrel. (Thus the brass washer you mention is not needed) The MOST IMPORTANT thing when reassembling, is to ensure the spring is inserted correctly; it is tapered in one direction, and the smaller end must be pointed towards the plunger tip, otherwise there will be binding in the system preventing the smooth cushioning action we are looking for. I plan to demonstrate the assembly again when doing the bow setup in the next few segments.
It's also caused from release, depending on how much it rolls off your tab/glove. It's eliminated almost completely with a dloop/release system, but that's a whole different thing, 😆
Hello sir, Starting at 6:15 Hook pressure and rests you stated that exagerated pressure in a certian finger will cause the arrow to slam down on the rest and result in arrow flying out head down. What finger? is it the top finger or the bottom finger? I am getting a lot of low arrows on the target with my zniper. I am considering the finger pressure as a possible cause. I pay close attention to back tension and follow through. Thank you
Your situation is slightly different because of the way Zniper rest works. Your consistent low could be (and most likely is) caused by an improper setup/tune in the rest; this is why I don’t generally recommend them for beginners, as they take more work to get tuned. I would suggest you start by trying to increase the resistance to drop away slightly on your rest and see what happens.
My beginner barebow has only one hole in the riser. Can I mount the plunger and the stick-on flipper rest on the same axis? Doesn't the pressure from the plunger push the arrow away from the riser on this type of rest?
Yes, you can certainly use a stick on rest. But as I discuss in the videos, it is not optional as if you have any kind of failure during competition, replacement becomes very difficult, and getting it aligned to as close a position as before the failure is a huge challenge. When you have only a few minutes to repair and get under way during an event, ease of repeatable setup is key to having the confidence in your gear even after any mishaps.

Using the term ‘archer’s paradox’ correctly would have been a good start.
Great video. Only note is that that isn’t actually what the archers’ paradox is (it’s what causes the archers’ paradox).

If the screw is machined to a point, the small (disposable) washer is not needed.
For the novice, hard to beat a Shibuya DX plunger and Spigarelli ZT rest.
There is no archers paradox with a cut out bow it only applies to primitive bows without a sight window, such as an English longbow.
