Im a hunter, and im a fan of the whisker biscuit. Im in the north woods of Wisconsin, nothing beats the wisker in bad snowy cold weather. Always accurate, and extremely dependable.
Started with whisker biscuit, went to drop away and then to limb driven. I went back to whisker biscuit.
Think I’m about to do the same. Might even spoil myself and get the $100 TR sure shot

If there is enough freezing rain to cause issues on a bristle rest, a drop away would be subject to the same issue. Actually worse for a drop away. It would be frozen up and hit your fletching. I finger poke through bristles would listen them up
Yep. When I hunt in those conditions, I wear a camo poncho anyway and keep my bow (or rifle) under the poncho next to my body and it stays warm until I need to pull it out.
You can work a drop away with your hand too tho. Should loosen it up
But the moving parts on a drop rest are much bigger then tiny bristles that are so close to each other it’s easy to stick. The conditions for the drop sight to freeze would be a lot colder then what the bristles would freeze at

I started with a whisker biscuit and then moved to a drop away. I like the drop away more. I will say that after reviewing slo mo footage I noticed the whisker biscuit helps the arrows start their rotation quicker. Still like the drop away better.
Simple is best, the whisker biscuit is best. Never failed yet and doesn't require any special attention
I dropped my first bow deer (a nice 7 point buck at 30 yards) with a Diamond Edge bow. Had a whisker biscuit on it. Took everybody's advice about going with a drop away rest and had nothing, but issues (seizing, timing, arrow jumping around and making noise on stalks, etc...). Went back to a whisker biscuit, zero issues. My drop away "froze" in poor conditions. Freezing weather will wreck havoc an anything, especially something with moving mechanical parts. I'd say both types of rests need to have special attention payed to them in harsh conditions just like everything else on the bow (cams, strings, releases, etc...).
Also, as for whisker biscuits wearing out, so do timing strings and springs on drop aways (stretching with time). Just replace the insert every 1/2 a decade and you have a new rest for all intents and purposes for 20 bucks.
Up to 30 yards, there is no difference in either rest (loss of speed, accuracy, etc...). On a typical 300fps set-up, a deer would literally have .25 seconds (or a quarter of a second) to jump a sub-40 yard shot which adds up to nothing. After that, I think the drop aways make more sense for hunting. I just love a worry free, no-tuning needed, practically zero maintenance rest. I shoot a Mathews now STILL with a whisker biscuit.

I bought a new bow this year. Came with a drop away rest and when I was sighting it in it failed to drop twice and busted the veins off my arrow. Threw an old whisker biscuit on there and haven’t had any issues since 😂
I’ve had to replace whisker biscuits every week or two when shooting a lot

I have an older Hoyt ZR 200 and shoot a Whisker Biscuit and love it, now keep in mind I’m not reaching Super Sonic speeds with this thing but it works for me and has for A Long time
I’ve had both cable and whisker biscuit, the whisker biscuit is just hard to beat for hunting.
I use a limb driven rest on my prime and love it. I shot a cable driven for many years and just recently switched to a limb driven. You guys can check it out when you come chase muleys in November 😉
My personal experience with rest are only with whisker biscuits and cable style drop away. But for me the whisker biscuits have been more reliable. The dropaway I have had the serving that held the string to the cable move and caused the rest not to fall. Though I think that was more error of the person who tied the serving.
I love the hamskea trinity. Easy to tune also.

Whisker buiscuts are NOT just for beginners. Love them in thick timber and brushy areas.
Had a ripcord drop away and it froze on me when i was shooting a buck. Switched to the whisker biscuit after that. I love the biscuit but am now looking into maybe a limb driven. Its been several years with the biscuit.
I love the WB rests. I’ve shot many drop away rests and I always go back to to my WB. I don’t see a difference in my 60-70 yard groups with my WB. I hunt out west and the WB is hard to beat in spot and stalk situation.
I have a wb my first one and it is solid color do I need to have my nock fletching up?

What’s your thoughts on the three point containment vs the full basket bristle rests?
Drop away ripped the fletching off of several arrows once it started getting stuck while dropping. Whisker biscuit fixed everything. I might would try the limb driven if I ever moved to longer shots in a western hunting scenario but for treestand white-tail a whisker biscuit will do everything I need it to do.
Used a whisker biscuit for a few years and it worked fine. Moved to cable driven rest and have stuck with it. I feel like my shots are more accurate and consistent with it (also wore out the whiskers in my previous rest a good amount)
I’ve tried dunking and freezing a whisker biscuit. Wasn’t able to. The bristles just frost a little and you can flick it off just flexing them with your finger. I’ve tried them all and always go back to the biscuit. One issue is you will wear feathers through them. Vanes not so much but they will stain from the bristles. They do wear out, but it takes thousands of shots. And even then they tend to wear in more than wear out.
I have a ripcord SOS. Limb driven but u can raise the arm and keep the arrow ready to shoot. Or if u forget to lock the rest up when u draw it raises it. I don’t know why they stopped making them. Or maybe they didn’t.
Nice video. I wish you had added more slow motion footage. If you search on TH-cam or the internet. I'm sure you will see a lot more negative arrow contact with arrow rests like a Whisker Biscuit vs a fall away rest. The additional negative effect of poor follow through when using a Whisker Biscuit that many of use are guilty of when we want to look where our arrow has hit when an arrow has been shot out in the field. The stiffness of the veins can also affect the arrow when passing through the bristles on the Whisker Biscuit. My 2 cents. Have a nice day.
This boy I got from my grandma, bought in 2003 it’s a Darton Magnum Extreme. It has a rest just like the cable driven ones but there is no cable. It’s just able to spring down then flips back up. What is this and how do I use it?

Use what you want, but one thing is certain after probably hundreds or more formal and informal testing over the last 20 years, there is no shame for using a WB. They have shown time and time again to be very consistent, accurate, and other than being 1-2fps slower, have almost no downside for a hunting rest.
I agree, killed deer with both WB and QAD.
I shot a WB for a few years. I got a NAP dropaway rest and it shrank my groupings. I carry the WB during hunts just in case, but I see no reason to switch back.

I shot a whisker biscuit, or bristle style, for a while. I noticed a lot of fletching problems, especially early separation of fletching. I have gone to a limb driven, and will never go back.

The rest that you all were trying to remember the name of or the type, it was a burger butten hole flipper rest .. I used one though the 80 and 90 I believe NAP made it , that thing worked great for me, I had one of those all 4 of my compound bows .. something similar, except, a little more advanced is what Roger Raglan used all through the 80 and 90 also I bet there were a lot of people using the flipper rest back in those days ..I still have 1 or 2 laying around..
Im an old dude and i have that very drop away fork on my 1996 fred bear epic extreme. I was looking into updating because i had arrow drop twice on my riser while 25' up in a saddle. I also shoot XX78 super slams aluminum. What would you suggest if i was to go with a biscuit.
Three fletch on biscuits for sure. That’s the biggest concern.
Make sure its a biscuit made for your diameter arrow though. xx78's are pretty fat if i remember correctly. Or line the riser with felt anywhere the arrow can hit. Looks crappy but it works.

You guys would know as well as I would. Whisker biscuit is the best for true spot / stalk hog hunting.
Walking / wading forever in a swamp and shooting at moving targets.
Whisker Biscuits are impossible to tune on modern bows. They will kick out of that gap nearly every time. Which is why so few shops still sell them
For hunting I’m sticking with my whisker biscuit. If I was a 3D archer I’d run a hamskea. But most of us bow hunters who hunt 40 and in whisker biscuit has our back. Brushes freezing ? Carry a spare on you. I can replace my brush 10 times to one hamskea.
I had a vapor trail limb driven it failed me, and I chucked it. If you fail me at the range, it wouldnt take long in the field.

With a prooerly tuned bow, there is no greater upgrade to precision than a drop-away rest. If you've got the money, get one. I'm not saying whisker biscuits don't get the job done, but drop-aways are objectively better, especially if running high helical vanes.
Cord driven rest if your cables stretch could come outta time. Limb driven there's never a chance of that. Plus if something nicks the cord you can replace it with a shoe string or some kinda cord and have no timing or tune issues. I run both the trinity and gen7x

i use the trap door inertia driven rest. no strings and easy setup. no problems for me but there must of been issues because they are not around anymore.
I shot the trap door for a lot of years and always loved it. Unfortunately they just cant keep up with today's faster bows

Freezing rain equals me in the truck going home 🤣. F that. Plus, I'll buy 4 biscuits and keep them in my pocket for 4 to 10 years and not have to tune 1/100th as much as a drop away. Marketing and the need to be the neat and fastest is a hilarious thing to us shooters

Loved my whisker biscuit, used it for years! They can eat fletchings!
They sell biscuit goo to stop the cross over issue, and to increase the life of the biscuit. And the arrow contact is rather minimal through the process of draw and release. The IBO loss is also only 3-5 IBO which is not even noticeable until you start shooting very long distance 60 yards or more.
The arrow contact is not minimal. That is why drop-away rests exist. They actually have minimal contact. Using a whisker biscuit is choosing to have maximal arrow contact. I'm not saying whisker biscuits don't work, but their only defense is price. In every other way, drop away rests are objectively better.

Drop away can fail in cold weather
I just switched to cable driven rest this year to contain my arrow. Last year my arrow rattled around on the rest and spooked a deer 🤦🏻♂️ I decided then to swap it.

I'm running hamskie trinity I got vapor trail arrow holder on my shelf covered the hole shelf and I put a pice of stealth strip just enough incase my arrow makes contact man it's bomb proof I like my brother's to its the nock on arrow rest got a thing that flips up holds the arrow until you draw of your spot an stalking I tune both of our bows you can't beat micro adjustable limb driven rest we're both running elite Kure I haven't found any broadhead I can't tune with either setup I can't wait for September 10th to bust a big buck we're in nc our season starts then good luck fellers I hope yall have a awesome season if you kill a 125 or better hear it's a donkey lol
I bought a Bowtech Assassin back in 08 or 09 whenever they hit bow shops. It had a Hostage rest. There are horrible reviews on it. But right from the box that bow was a damn tack driver. After now shooting bow for 20 years I was on cloud nine shaving vanes off arrows. Didnt take long to realize it got annoying lol. Thank God I found those NAP quick fletch lol

I’ve never been able to tell a difference in groups between a whisker biscuit and my drop away rests, never seen a difference in speed either. I prefer the drop away just because I know my arrow is never going to move.

@@IIDASHII A deer's reaction time is 1/10th of a second once it "hears" the bow. Point blank range for a 300fps bow shooting a typical 500g hunting arrow is 35 yards.
That means there's there's .8 seconds of reaction time from that 35 yard point until it hits 40 yards meaning that the deer will be hit by the arrow before it can react to hearing the shot. 😅
That's for a quiet bow like a Mathews. My first bow, an Infinite Edge by Bowtech (budget set-up) however is noisy and deer were jumping my string all the time. My Mathews Z2 is wicked silent.

I like to use my index and middle finger as my rest. As I shoot, I just try to get my fingers out of the way!

I shoot a 2 prong rest and it does get annoying when the arrow slides off and makes a lot of noise. I was always scared to shoot a whisker bisket. For the fact that it slows the arrow down.
You won't even notice the 1 -2 fps difference.

Vaportrail has awesome customer service too. Broke my rest, likely my fault, and they warranted me a part that you cant even buy for the cost of shipping.
You guys talk like limb driven and cable driven rests are not getting wear.
For sure they do.
I have used and use limb driven, cable driven and whiskers and when it comes to accuracy, the difference is extremely small if at all if you know how to shoot a bow.
Even with a Whisker, I can bare shaft tune out to 20 yards without a problem and the accuracy is the same at 60 yards as with a cable/limb driven.
Personally I prefer to stalk/still hunt and because of this do I all of the time when doing that use a Whisker and I have not missed the vitals of an animal one single time.
A Whisker is KING when stalking/still hunting for a lot of reasons.
The argument about the bristles freezing is rather moot, because you can easily loosen them up if that happens.
And if you are about to hunt in such conditions that can make that happen, you can also give them a very light spray with a oil cooking spray to prevent any freezing as well.
Just give the bristles a light spray and then shake it some to get rid of excess oil if you have been to generous.
When always hunting from a stand/blind, then a limb/cable driven is very good as well, but I prefer a limb driven for hunting because it is so extremely easy to set up and you don't need to engage it before it works.
It works at once you draw your bow.
After experiencing problems multiple times with cable driven rests after pushing through heavy brush, I have totally stopped trusting them for hunting and I only use the one I have left on my target bow.
My time hunting and my opportunities to shoot the animals I want to shoot are to precious for me to take any risks with.

Will a drop away rest frozen in ice work? I've never understood the logic behind that argument. Do you all really think your arrow is going faster using a drop away? I think the industry has brainwashed you all into paying way more for a rest than you need to just like they get people buying new bows every year. Any bow using any rest can be shot accurately it depends on the shooter.

Real killers leave nothing to chance and if you had to rely on your equipment for protection it would be outfitted with a biscuit and yes biscuits speed up arrow flight stabilization. Frozen biscuit is really reaching lol your whole setup would be in the same condition

Why your arrows so flimsy look extremely under spined
Whisker biscuits create drag, I don’t care what anyone says. I’ve been shooting compound bows since 16 years of age and I am currently 48 and still shooting. I have 5 bows in total. I tried a whisker biscuit once and I immediately removed it and kept it for spare parts in my archery tool box. A drop away does exactly that, it drops away at the beginning of your shot. With a whisker biscuit the entire length of your arrow drags in the whisker biscuit from the beginning of your shot to the end of your shot. When your fletching drags through the whisker biscuit it creates the most drag because of the increased surface area. It’s actually common sense it’s not rocket science. Don’t use whisker biscuits, they are useless.
