I bought one of these because I suddenly needed a router to make a cabinet drawer front . So I bought it and was able to edge and groove a single drawer front fast. I’m keeping it.
Got this recently. Really like it. I'm a novice do-it-yourself type. Works great. Body gets pretty hot if you use it without turning it off frequently.
Great review. Just to say for any Brits out there - I got this in the UK as a promotion was running and it comes with that exact same bridge guide (if that's what it's called).
One thing you didn't show was dados. I tried making a 3/4" dado 3/8" deep in plywood yesterday. I clamped a board as an edge guide. It ripped into it, but it was hard to control and I went off line. I then dialed it aback to 1/8" and there was no problem. I kept a combo square set at 3/8", so I adjusted the router another 1/8th and went over my line again. Next, I went all the way down to 3/8" and finished the cut. I then made one more pass to clean it up. Finished dado looked great. This little guy is a beast. It will do most of what needs to be done

I think I saw this video quite a while ago, but it popped up on my feed. I bought this a while back, then the Milwaukee came on sale, and ai bought it, because I wanted the ability to use the plunge base. I haven’t used either, but I can’t wait to try them out.
I got one and I love it. I haven't had it long enough to know how durable it is but so far I'm impressed.

I just bought that router. What's not to like. I can see easily where the bit travels for freehand mortise . I can't think of a job I couldn't or wouldn't do with this tool vs. a more expensive brand. Your not going to overload a trim router and have it last anyway so having the batteries made it a no brainier. I didn't know the fence was available. I could use that. Thanks
I got mine today in the UK that I bought online and it came with the fence guide. Battery is not a problem as I have several Ryobi Cordless power tools.

I've got all Dewalt tools but I saw this and was hooked! Bought a battery adapter and added it to my Dewalt tools! It all started with their cool hinge jig, so I had to buy the router.

10/08/19 I purchased this router and a new battery from Home Depot after watching this review. 10/10/19 I returned said router for three 3 corded model. While I love being cordless, the router just didn't have enough power to cut through wood without freezing up or kicking back.
I have one of that tools. Been using a while now with 4ah hp battery. Small but powerful. Comfortable to use, reliable

I've been using their tools professionally for a long time. Some are better than others but 15 years out of a table saw is awesome. With it's 27 inch rip capacity it more than met the order. How many miles of hardwood cabinet fillers and lumber it cut who knows. Some of their tools are duds that burn up after medium use in a hurry. Or that old blue cordless jigsaw that came out back when was useless because the orbit kicked out on the downstroke. I took it right back.

It does seem like they did a really good job diffusing down to the ryobi line from the ridgid one. It's huge on top, but it's not a big deal. Worth 69 bucks IMO. Glad I am bought into ridgid for my main tools though, even if they are a bit more pricey, the batteries replacement on kits is the main draw for me (I only buy kitted batteries, so I won't have a 9ah until one comes with a charger :P). Like button smeeshed.

What are the practical applications of owning two trim routers of the exact same brand and model? Just curious.
@@as7river You can dedicate one to a specific task, so you don't have to reset it. each time you want to do that task. You have a backup in case one goes down. You have an extra so your kid can play with it. You have one extra in case one is stolen or you run over it with your truck. If you are senile, like me, you can always find one of them.
Thinking about getting one of these bc plunge routers are heavy (duh!) and sometimes you don't want to deal with a cord. You keep mentioning the battery, but I think you could go with the smaller batteries and do fine on small jobs, or just swap out whenever you are setting up the next lot of pieces. This tool is worth it for the convenience. Putting it on my wish list.

I hate investing in another battery platform when I already have so many batteries from another manufacturer, but Ryobi has so many great performing tools that it's getting really hard to resist.

This ryobi has the same narrow grip feature like makita and the new milwaukee. I have the DeWalt 20v and it's a little more wider on the grip section but still a good router. I wish dewalt had a micro knob then the collar style micro adjustment. Waiting to see the milwaukee.
Michael C the new Milwaukee looks just like the Ridgid and Ryobi, which I find odd but stays with theTTI design team.

Thanx for the review! Like others I went out and bought the Ryobi after weeing your video as well as a couple others including the Concord Carpenter/Toolbox Buzz which they went through several of them.
And sure there are others that proved to be "better" but at a much higher price point. I'm sure the more serious carpenter with cash in their pockets would go for one of the other trim routers, but for me, as much as I need and use one at this point, especially since they put it on sale for $49 bucks... it was the perfect choice. Since I already have Ryobi One + cordless tools that also helped solidify things for me.
I also ordered the Ridgid edge guide which you were the only one to mention it fit the Ryobi. So thank you again!
I do have a question for you since you have both the Rigid and Ryobi... Is the round base on the Ridgid Corded Trim Router acrylic or the same plastic as the Ryobi stock one is? And will it fit directly to the Ryobi?
As well, how about the Ridgid vacuum port attachment... if you have it, will it fit the Ryobi, do you know?

I have a huge 1 1/2HP (If memory serves) Craftsman from 30 years ago that I never use because it's so big, bulky, and corded. I saw this Ryobi router at Home Depot for $35 clearance yesterday. After watching these videos, I think I'll go back and get it today.
You can get the edge guide on the Ryobi website for anyone interested. Should be more information on that in the back of the manual. Had trouble finding one and another video brought that up. A round base is available also.

Good vid there Clint. Since I'm in the Ryobi battery platform, I'm considering this trim router to add to my kit. I already have the Bosch Colt corded trim router but this would make my smaller projects a bunch easier. I am curious how it performs on hardwoods like oak, ash, maple and others. I will say I'd probably only use this on soft woods like pine though. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

Looks like something I could use for picture, mirror frames and trim, easier and cheaper to make with square stock then shape up after....no need for fiddling with miter joints .
I do have a router, but one of those bulky, dual handle monsters. I hate it and don't use it because I find it clumsy.
I just saw this Ryobi today and found it very interesting AND the price is really good.
My question is, does this take the same bit/shafter size and any other regular router?
Or is one forced to by special, Ryobi bits?

I need to cut in a groove for button mounting a slab to some table rails. This looks like it would do the job perfectly? I need an orbital sander, and see I can get that + this in a package from homedepot, but only want to do it if this is a good fit for that job.

My applause. I can see that this is a good tool. There are very few reviewers in Russian who can take a simple review without unnecessary chatter. Control speed. Lol but in all seriousness I'm not being sarcastic, being able to speed up/slow down as you go through different sections of the wood, come close to a corner, or actually turn the corner and keep going. Making a turn full speed isn't as smooth as slowing down around the corners (try it in your car you'll see)
What's this router like when working with hardwood ?!

be careful when buying a ryobi palm router ........the collar sticks and is hard to remove. check it at the store before buying.
i bought one and the collar WOULD NOT come off. --even the men at the store could not get it off except to stand on it and pull up!!!!!
as i was exchanging it for a second one a lady who had bought one previously said they were notorious for the collar being very hard to remove.

I’ve been considering buying this for home. I have Ryobi at home so I’d have the batteries for it. Also considering getting into Ridgid for home also. I would prefer the Ridgid router because it’s brushless but I don’t know if it really makes a difference between the two in this case.
If you use the router a lot, I would go Brushless just because you wont need to change them out if the go bad. That would probably take a while to wear them down, but still a bonus for ridgid!

I bought this and I’m really happy with it. However, I bought a set of bits for it, one of which is 1/4 inch; it doesn’t fit in the collet. Am I missing something?

However, I need to cut out maybe a 2x2" section in the middle of a board, 1/2" deep. My question: Couldn't I just cut a "pilot" hole and then start the router there, rather than trying to plunge it? Appreciate your thoughts here!
Nothing beats a dedicated power source. Cordless is nice but outlets don’t run out of juice
