I still have my father's original numbers matching 67 Shelby GT 500. It's a rust free, California car, still has the black and yellow plates. 428 PI, original dual carbs , 10 spoke wheels, C-6 trans. Center headlights. It was delivered to Fairway Ford in June of 1967. Thank you Dad for the memories and those still happening. RIP, Dad. Great video, commentary and history behind the early Shelbys. Thank you for sharing.
As a ten yr old in Ohio it was the first cool car I ever saw in my neighborhood. It was a middle-class neighborhood so this thing got my attention. I didn't know what I was looking at but I remember it was a green 67 Shelby & I was messmerized!
75 year old here and my dad rented a Hertz GT350… I had just gotten my license and he let me drive it! How many guys can say they learned to drive a stick in a Shelby GT 350! We just had Father’s Day and my dad RIP was one of the coolest. Every Father’s Day I think of that drive! 👍
Nope you are WRONG. They were mostly autos but they had some 4 speeds also. My dad got a 4 speed as most customers wanted an auto. I have no reason to lie about one of my best memories with him.
Hey Peter (Legendary Motorcar), I am still enjoying 6s843 that you restored for me. The paint job you/Legendary Motorcar did is still amazing even after almost 30 years of ownership! Gary is great on your show. A very charming young man.
Great video, Peter and Gary. I'll never forget the first GT350 I ever saw - I was a kid living in CT in 1965, early one morning, waiting for the school bus along with a couple other kids, when a guy who lived around the corner came by in a Wimbledon White with blue stripes GT350. We were all gobsmacked as he blipped the throttle, we all nearly lost our minds! The sight and the sound were forever burned into my brain!
I owned a '66 carryover car in the mid 80's...bought mine for $75K. Put about $35K into it getting it back to OEM specs and sold her in the late 90's for $145K. My first car as 15 year old teen boy was a hand me down '66 A Code fastback in '73 that my sister and her stupid boy friends had beat the shit out of but i drove the tires off it and put an intake and bigger carb and headers on it, so i had some experience throwing a '66 Stang around on the roads. For anyone who has never driven or owned a GT350...they don't drive worth a crap compared to modern cars. Drum brakes so they don''t stop worth a crap and at 306 HP they weren't incredibly fast...they pushed like crazy in a corner. But they sure look cool and are a visceral experience to drive (a guy who moved on to 911's after the GT350 and now owns a 2018 GT2 RS).
My dream car. Thanks so much for sharing. Peter for all your knowledge, and Gary for your enthusiasm to drive these old classics and give that youthful exuberance that you put forth. Gives me hope that these old classics will continue with a younger generation. Hondas and toyotas just don't have a soul, and that seem like what al the young guys like. That's OK too, i guess. Run what you like. Thanks again guys, us old guys who live through you apperciate the time you put into all of it. Thanks again, guys!
I couldn't afford a real one, so I made a copycat. This is when I was 30 years old. I was trying to raise a family and build this car with limited funds. I am 72 years now. It made such an impression on me when I was a kid, I dreamed about a Shelby G.T. 350 and it's all I could do was with an imitation. It was so overwhelming the response I would get driving it down the street. People loved this car and expressed themselves with countless shoutouts and thumbs up. I remember elderly folks when I pulled up at stoplights. They would look at me and smile. This car just does something to people's hearts. It will always be in mine.
Back in the Day (1969) I owned TWO 1966 GT350s ONE of which was a GT350S Paxton Supercharged ! One of 10 produced by Shelby American . Wonder where those Cars are Today ?
the side exhaust i imagine made a big HP difference, on my 66 GT I went from the stock 2 inch to a flowmaster 2.5 and picked up 5 MPH !! in the quarter mile run
I've owned 6 Shelbys back in the 70's. They were a dime a dozen. I paid as little as $50 for a 1968 GT 350 with a blown engine to $1,800 for a 1968 GT 500 KR. They are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them today.
Really 😎 cool, this is a decent, detailed, informative and slick video, to introduce a newcomer to the GT350 Legend, and to thoroughly entertain a seasoned Ford/Shelby fan.. Loved it !!!!
Hello Peter and Legendary Team, Your videos are always the most informative and a real joy to watch. Well done! A good friend of mine has one of the "Carry Over" cars. His has the Paxton setup and it really rips! I agree these carry overs are the best early Shelby Mustangs, maybe even the best of all! IMHO right now of all the cars out there for sale, (like the 05/06 Ford GT commercial) this Is 'THE ONE' to have. I had a chance to talk with you during SAAC 46 in Sonoma, truly was nice to meet you.
I miss my 66. Back in 84 I traded my new Camaro for a 66 tribute Shelby. Was a racer at Watkins Glen. I wish I knew what I had at the time. 😢 After a few years I put a Hampton 671 blower. It screamed
@legendarymotorcar In the future could you make a video comparing the differences and changes that happened from 66 to 67? Thank you for a wonderful education for the 65-66
Love this kind of historical detail! Why did the factory shut? Fwiw, ‘65 was not all success. All the GT40s failed at Le Mans, but the Daytona Coupes did win the FIA GT championship.
8:48 Am I the only person in the world who misses the feel of comfort and control one gets from the old thinner steering wheel rims? I'm so tired of the ring bologna feel of all modern steering wheels.

Weren't all Hertz's 350s all manuals?! So how could you learn to drive a stick??? Busted. Sell crazy elsewhere.

PS- I’m assuming you meant weren’t they all AUTO, (not manual), At least get your words straight…geez
@@stevepick9527 Sorry I came off the way I did. I just thought all Hertz's were automatics. Sorry If I offended you.
A very lucky man what else is there to SAY.... Nobody beats no one🎉🎉💯🎯🙏🙏👍👍🇺🇲🇺🇲🔥💥🥊🥊👍👍🥇

Peter, you're such a class act an excellent presenter. Thanks for making these youtube deals.
As a life long car nut, I find Peter's level of knowledge to be extremely impressive. Great episode and what a car!
Never been a Shelby guy, but that makes me want one!
Outstanding presentation. Even after all these years, learned some more about these. Thank you. And the smiles during the drive - sums it all up well.

What a car; beautiful. Thanks for the insights and documentation with all the details.

Lotta car guys on TH-cam …these guys are the best.
Love those teak steering wheels, Gary is such a lucky young man but he's really earned our respect. What a nice young man Pete!
Gary,I don't think many of those cars were used to take the family to their cottage!
@@richardmorris7063 you’re probably right haha
The steering wheel is plastic on this car as it is on most 1966 Shelbys.
Guys your videos put a smile on my face, always! We want a car like this, thanks a lot!

This looks alot like Carryover #6S200. It looks fantastic and runs even better. Great job and that car is now a celebrity!

I see Legendary Motor car I click on!

I bet you feel like a bigger inbred fool after seeing how much Shelby's going for now step child. 😮 😅 You fked up. 😅😅😅
It's always an informative program! Thank you!
A good friend of mine has a carryover, it’s an incredibly special car.
Really 😎 cool, this is a decent, detailed, informative and slick video, to introduce a newcomer to the GT350 Legend, and to thoroughly entertain a seasoned Ford/Shelby fan.. Loved it !!!!
I learned how to drive in my dads 66 Mustang convertible.

So much fun driving this unit!
My first car was SFM6S1645. I wish we still had it.
Love the homage to Tom Hnatiw with the 'do you need a car like this' etc - nice touch.
Fantastic show guys!
Love the real life smiles 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cool video of a great car.
Thanks for all the information and posting this video.
Imagine GARY'S CAR BUDDIES... HITN HIS LIKES & "SHARE" BUTTONS!!

I dont remember the year since its been a while, my uncle, owns a 60s gt350 and wants to get a newer model. My uncles are huge car guys

Peter always interesting to listen to, but could do without the background noise.
Dssh horn button or no?

"They get complaints from New York and California??" Stop with that nonsense Jr or nepo baby. You were not even born when that car came out WTF??
Efficient isn't a word that is in Ford's dictionary. Tesla has considerably more net income that Ford for the last 4 years, like double.
I just took a johnarnold, boy it smelled! 😮
What a 🤡. Making a 💩 comment about Tesla, like anyone watching this video cares. 🤣🤣🤣
