Mamamoo is THAT OG girl group everyone looks up to in terms of live vocals and performance. They're my ult group and whereas I love Dreamcatcher so damn much and I've been watching your reactions to them, I'm going finally subscribe because I'm very interested to follow your journey with Mamamoo closely.
Oh and btw, Dreamcatcher are going to be guesting at Moonbyul's radio show this Friday. I have never really seen very many intersections between my two favorite girl groups before, so this is going to be simply FANTASTIC, even if it's just Byul with them.

Moonbyul-21 (Dec. 22, 1992)
Wheein-19 (April 17, 1995)
Hwasa-18 (July 23, 1995 almost 19)
In the early years, they had to do many things for themselves as their company RBW was not a large one. They did things like their own styling and choreo.
Wow some are actually older than me! So they are pretty much as close to self-made idols as you can get lol very cool. They’ve done well for themselves!
Mamamoo are the undisputed live vocal queens. Their live performances more often than not sound even better than their recorded studio versions. They set the bar so high that they are considered true artists, not just idols. Wait until you check out their Immortal Songs performances.

Mamamoo is also known for being a bit weird...fandom is Moomoos...their light stick is a radish because moo is radish in Korean...their CEO encourages it, they would constantly argue and poke fun of their height between each other, and the CEO had them create a song about it, 1CM의 자존심 (Pride of 1cm). (they are all 5'3" - 5'4")
So very similar to what I love about Dreamcatcher lol lovable goofballs that are crazy talented and easily could be supermodels 😂
@@SinghReacts Best vocal group in kpop in my opinion because of their harmonies, which a lot of kpop doesn't do much between members. (Dreamcatcher being a close second) Good dancers but they don't put much emphasis too much on it. Don't really conform to the standard norms of looks of girl groups and are unapologetically themselves.

I'm so excited to find a reactor who liked them off the bat (esp a piano man fan!!!). I think a lot of the other suggestions are really good starters: killing voice basically doubled our fanbase recently bc of their vocals and immortal songs medley has been the fandom crown jewel for years. If you like the retro style you will love ahh oop, cat fight, peppermint chocolate, don't be happy, (this song made me into Mamamoo fan) in Korea they have the nickname 믿듣맘무 = Belismoo wich means Belive and Listen to Mamamoo, you will notice through the videos the amazing vocals that they have but check paint me, my star (live), woo hoo (CF, yes even the comercial song are perfect), etc., also you will adore Inmortal Songs (14 presentations and 1 medley) check the medley so you have and idea of there live performances and of course the killing voice its a medley of they songs and will give you a sneak a peak. Enjoy Mamamoo's World at this point they are in general Vocal Queens.
Mamamoo has several concepts and several styles, it does not focus on just one

Welcome to one of the deepest rabbit holes in kpop. Their first couple of albums were in this retro jazz/swing r&b style and then they moved on to practically every genre you can think of and have an extremely diverse discography. Expect the unexpected but there's no way to prepare for the surprises to come. 😂
You skipped their two pre-debut collab songs Don't Be Happy and Peppermint Chocolate so you might want to watch them before leaving their retro era. Ahh Oop! is next chronologically, which was a collab with the songwriter, eSNa.
While they were rookies they started appearing on the singing competition tv show Immortal Songs 2, where they competed with some of S Korea's best mainstream singers and groups doing new arrangements of classic (immortal) songs by older artists. They've appeared on Immortal Songs 14 times and since the material isn't kpop style it almost amounts to MMM having a split personality and a parallel career. Anyway, the point is that they really showcase their vocal talent on Immortal Songs and it's a major part of Mamamoo's journey as artists. Since you're going chronologically you might want to sprinkle in those performances along the way. The first one is called Wait a Minute. As any moomoo will tell you, Mamamoo is best when they're live because of their amazing vocals, riveting stage presence and ever-changing theatrical performances.

If you don’t want to hear the songs you’re going to react to, Immortal songs medley is good for live vocals because they’re covers BUT if you want a little preview of what’s to come, Killing Voice is great. You get to hear a lot of their songs, but it still doesn’t scratch the surface of all their songs, so it’s not like you’re spoiling it.

they are known for their live performances and busking. both mamamoo and dreamcatcher have log alot of live performance miles. i think all of mamamoo have been on king of mask singer. while only siyeon for dreamcatcher.

If your going to be checking out more Mamamoo, which I really hope you will, you need to check out a guide so you can get to know the members better. I suggest The Ultimate Mamamoo Introduction Video or the two part Introducing Mamamoo. Whatever you do, don’t choose the guide claiming to be a very helpful guide to mamamoo, because it’s really not. Plus, it’s severely outdated and with an annoying robot voice.

Moonbyul you know, in the yellow minidress. Solar (long hair, flamboyant big voice) has the green. Hwasa ("Waa-Saa") had the blonde bob, she has the huskly torch singer voice. Wheein ("Hee-inn", touch the W lightly if at all) had the brunette bob, has not quite as much power in her belt as Solar, but a more honeyed tone, orange dress. This neon color coding is called back to in future videos, watch for it.
Gotta say “flamboyant big voice” is the most accurate description I’ve heard of solars voice 😂😂

Another person going through Mamamoo lane. I already see a lot praising their live vocals but not a lot praising their harmonies. Their LIVE harmonies come very naturally. They're insa (intro/greeting) for award shows or for interviews is a harmony. You'll probably see/hear it someday, the iconic "🎵I say Mama mama moo~🎵 annyeong haseya Mamamoo-imnida!"

And as a recommendation you may want to explore Red Velvet, all vocalist too, and as DC they love to experiment with their music, every comeback is different, you never know what you are going to get.
Unfortunately since Wendy's horrible accident on December 2019 they have been kind of inactive as a group, but after a year of recovery now all of them are ready to take where they left.

@@SinghReacts WOW REALLY? well their style is very complex, so you have to listen to more than a few songs to get what they are about.
They have a Red side ( happy, upbeat, colorful), Velvet side (more R&B, sexy) and some songs that are a mix of Red and Velvet, they are well known for a few things, like having creepy elements on some of the videos, incredible vocals (specially Wendy, one of the best in K-POP) their visuals, and for being named by Billboard as the best Girl Group Alive.

Not sure if anyone else commented this but Solar is also a pretty good pianist. There are a ton of more obscure videos where you can see her playing. Nothing too crazy, but you can tell by her chord choices, accompaniments and her general proficiency that she def has chops that she doesn’t show off on video.

Explanation of the moustache gesture: "aemaemoho" (ambiguous) sounds a lot like "Mamamoo" but also like a word for moustache (idk the exact word); to this day Mamamoo throws up the gesture as part of their group greeting. Mamamoo delights in wordplay. They even have an entire song devoted to it, "Aze Gag" which I'm sure you will get to, LOL.

i see others have been flooding you with info so... hopefully this'll be short (i'm known for writing novels in these comments...)
kudgeon mentioned their two pre-debut songs, "don't be happy" with bumkey and "peppermint chocolate" with k.will and wheesung. both have mvs, but i'll warn you that "don't be happy" is just solar and wheein with bumkey. the song itself doesn't have moonbyul or hwasa at all, but the last half of the mv is an 'intro' to the group with them (at least visually). there's also not a lot of byul in "peppermint chocolate", but she gets all the rap segments to herself in the live versions they've done
and yes, these women are always best when live, esp with a live band. their 'immortal songs' performances always have the show's house band and their agency also has a house band, which they use for their concerts and various practice/medley sessions that have been uploaded over the years. they also sometimes use their 'brother' band, onewe, an actual kpop/krock band under the same agency, as their backup band in award shows and such
these women did start out doing pretty much everything on their own, as someone else mentioned. moonbyul created the choreography for "mr ambiguous", their debut song and usually they choreograph their songs together, even now. their title tracks since 2019 have been choreographed by big-name choreographers, both group and solo stuff, but they still create the choreo for their b-sides themselves (with help, of course, but definitely still their own flavor). styling and makeup used to be all on them and, though they actually have some amazing stylists now, they still work closely with the girls and take each one's preferences into account, helping to showcase their individual tastes while also helping them form a cohesive whole, which is one of the things mamamoo likes to do best... each one is an amazing solo artist but when the four are together, they're absolutely unbeatable, and the bond these four have is unmistakable
they are also heavily involved in other creative aspects of their music, as well. all four of them have written songs, composed music and even tried their hand at producing. this is actually something their agency is known for... their artists are all known for top-tier vocals and also being all-rounders. everyone learns singing techniques, dancing, rapping, but they also learn the behind the scenes skills, too, such as the ones mentioned before. and if they wind up liking one of these or discover an affinity for it, they're encouraged to continue (one example is cya, the bassist/rapper of that band, onewe. he's produced several tracks both for his own group and their brother group, oneus. despite being the youngest member). this is actually a pretty big deal, esp for girl groups, since many agencies seem to ignore the creative potential of their actual artists (again, esp girl groups) though in the group's later years, they may let them try their hands at some of the behind the scenes stuff (mostly boy groups, though). here, the agency has all their artists try it out while still trainees and any form of creative expression tends to be encouraged
...i'll spare you more gushing about this group for now, but will mention that they have a younger sister group, purple kiss, that is about to officially debut in just a few weeks (march 15, the ides of march). like mamamoo, they've released two pre-debut tracks but theirs have no featurings and are very different from each other. the first is a dreamcatcher-esque dance-focused track, "my heart skip a beat" and the second is the much more vocally-oriented "can we talk again"

Ok the comment was this..been listening to Mamamoo for four years but this is the first time hearing Wheeins voice . From the first time hearing Mamamoo five years ago I heard every one's voice their tones . Then they said it's ok the others cover how ok she is ..ticked me off big time let's just say that person's channel is blocked won't call him out but won't listen either

Others I like are Red Velvet, Everglow, CLC and many more, but still discovering more about all of them so can't say I follow hard. Like and listen to some boy groups, but its more of a song by song basis. Though new group did just debut, Kingdom with their song Excalibur, that has a concept that could be intriguing.
Yea (G)I-dle is probably next been hearing a lot about them! I’m all caught up with ITZY and blackpink actually which is why I haven’t reacted to them lol. I’ve heard of IU but not any songs yet and same with kard
