If you notice the lyrics, each one of them is talking about their personality or appearance, their strenght and weakness etc... This song was actually pretty powerful back then, they're basically saying no matter how you are or how you look, you're great your own way and personally i love this kind of messages in songs, especially from a girl group who is known to be followed by a lot of teenagers. This was also one of the most played songs at prides too, i guess because of its message and the catchy music :D

A nice surprise. Do you really want advance warnings? Imo that would spoil your fun and our amusement. 🤣 On your own time watch some of the tv music show performances of Decalcomanie. There's the red sparkly dress version (my personal fav), the suits version, and they even did the mirror dance in one of them. There's also the iconic rock version of Decalcomanie for a year-end show with label mates Onewe as the backup band (before they were signed to RBW or even called Onewe). They preceded rock Decalcomanie with a short dixieland jazz version of You're the Best. MMM loves to rearrange their hits in different genres for special events. Pretty much every performance by them is different. Yes I Am became a total earworm for me and I didn't really pay attention to the grrl power lyrics until I watched their commentary video, which explains the "cute bluffing" concept they invented for the MV and some of the obscure lines like Hwasa's "Me, me 4 with the sun." Definitely worth checking out - it's called something like Mamamoo Yes I Am MV Commentary. Next up should be the beginning of the 4 Season 4 Color era. The title tracks are Starry Night, Egotistic, Wind Flower and Gogobebe but I highly recommend you start with the pre-release song Paint Me, which is the theme song for the four album project. It introduces the themes and symbolism for 4S4C and it's a vocal masterpiece.

on "yes i am": this song was probably their most well known female empowerment and self-empowerment song until "hip" was released. it's obviously still up there, though. the catchy tune and lyrics really help. the girls are all talking about aspects of their appearances and personalities that are outside the expected beauty standard and how, instead of being discouraged by it, they celebrate them. a 'you're beautiful just the way you are', more or less the dog isn't one of theirs. he was brought in specifically to film here. solar and wheein both play with him a bit in one of the mmmtv episodes that is behind the scenes of this mv shoot. i have no clue why i remember it, but his name is thor and those outfits the four wore at the end when you see each one individually were the outfits they wore for their solo stages at their concerts that year, 'moosical curtain call'. each member had around 7 minutes to do whatever she wanted in that concert (which was around 3 hours long). all four of them were exceptionally dangerous on their solo stages there, and in every subsequent concert, with both the concerts and their solo stages getting longer and longer. the four seasons spring/summer solos were 10 minutes, the fall/winter solos were 20 minutes and the final f/w concert broke the 5 hour mark... which is sheer insanity

on "decalcomanie": the term is french, though you could probably tell. it's the art of putting images from paper onto other things, usually glass or porcelain but can be furniture, too, and is where the word 'decal' came from, so stickers evolved from that artform. it's also a term for what some surreal artists were known for, putting paint between two pieces of paper and pressing them together. sort of like what was done with the fruit in this mv in south korea, the term is often used for how close people, usually couples, start looking alike. it's also a nickname solar and wheein have for themselves with solar as decal and wheein as comanie as for the theme, in south korea there's this concept of a woman blossoming after a first kiss (sort of like the pg version of what much of the rest of the world thinks) and the girls in the mv wanted to experience this, so they tracked down some suitable prey but also made him think he was the predator picking them off one by one. note after they get what they want the guy totally disappears since he was a means to an end, not an end goal itself the actor used is gay, btw, and is a non-korean model and actor who lives in south korea. apparently rbw's ceo picked him specifically because he was gay, so the girls would feel more comfortable doing these intimate scenes with him. it didn't quite work out, though, since there are some hilarious behind the scenes of them having to redo many of these scenes, esp with wheein, who started making fun of her own shyness oh, and the music used during the kissing scenes... that's another song on the same album, "draw draw draw", also called "memory" (the album itself is 'memory'). the song has an mv of its own but is very much a christmas song when you hear the whole thing and last up, "decalcomanie" was the first mamamoo mv shot by zany bros, a well-known video directing company that does mvs for a lot of the bigger groups out there. since then, they've done every major mv of the group and many of their solo stuff, with hwasa's "maria" and "lmm" being the only exceptions i can recall off the top of my head. so be ready for a sharp upgrade in video quality but also be prepared for a lot of stuff basically shot in a warehouse, even though it looks pretty with all the set pieces, color, decor and lighting. the major exceptions, such as "starry night" and "wind flower" really stand out specifically because they're done outdoors

@@SinghReacts since then, the ceos of rbw and zany bros have gotten quite close, so we expect pretty much every mv from rbw artists to be zb ones and, for the most part, they are, despite some fans wanting the artists to try other directors (like hwasa did with her most recent solos). it's been a good thing overall, esp for zb since they've got exactly one artist signed to their label (which they created just for her, since none of the big labels wanted to sign her for some silly reason). alexa is the artist, a korean-american solo artist born in texas. she's kind of considered an honorary member of the rbw artist family since she practices and records at rbw, mostly uses their composers, songwriters and producers and gets to hang out with the rbw artists. all of her mvs are, of course, done by zb. she's actually a background character in mamamoo's "gogobebe", though this is before she debuted. she's also appeared in "end of spring" by onewe and done the english voiceover work for a series of releases explaining the story that went on between two songs from oneus. so very much honorary member of the artist family

On your own time watch some of the tv music show performances of Decalcomanie. There's the red sparkly dress version (my personal fav), the suits version, and they even did the mirror dance in one of them. There's also the iconic rock version of Decalcomanie for a year-end show with label mates Onewe as the backup band (before they were signed to RBW or even called Onewe). They preceded rock Decalcomanie with a short dixieland jazz version of You're the Best. MMM loves to rearrange their hits in different genres for special events. Pretty much every performance by them is different.
Yes I Am became a total earworm for me and I didn't really pay attention to the grrl power lyrics until I watched their commentary video, which explains the "cute bluffing" concept they invented for the MV and some of the obscure lines like Hwasa's "Me, me 4 with the sun." Definitely worth checking out - it's called something like Mamamoo Yes I Am MV Commentary.
Next up should be the beginning of the 4 Season 4 Color era. The title tracks are Starry Night, Egotistic, Wind Flower and Gogobebe but I highly recommend you start with the pre-release song Paint Me, which is the theme song for the four album project. It introduces the themes and symbolism for 4S4C and it's a vocal masterpiece.

@@SinghReacts I know you've been sticking to title tracks so I mentioned Paint Me because it's crucial to understand the 4S4C project, tho it's impossible to get the many layers of meaning in Paint Me or the other deceptively simple MVs on first view. As if the initial hurdle of the non-stop visual distractions combined with the music and their voices wasn't enough. 😂

this song was probably their most well known female empowerment and self-empowerment song until "hip" was released. it's obviously still up there, though. the catchy tune and lyrics really help. the girls are all talking about aspects of their appearances and personalities that are outside the expected beauty standard and how, instead of being discouraged by it, they celebrate them. a 'you're beautiful just the way you are', more or less
the dog isn't one of theirs. he was brought in specifically to film here. solar and wheein both play with him a bit in one of the mmmtv episodes that is behind the scenes of this mv shoot. i have no clue why i remember it, but his name is thor
and those outfits the four wore at the end when you see each one individually were the outfits they wore for their solo stages at their concerts that year, 'moosical curtain call'. each member had around 7 minutes to do whatever she wanted in that concert (which was around 3 hours long). all four of them were exceptionally dangerous on their solo stages there, and in every subsequent concert, with both the concerts and their solo stages getting longer and longer. the four seasons spring/summer solos were 10 minutes, the fall/winter solos were 20 minutes and the final f/w concert broke the 5 hour mark... which is sheer insanity

on "decalcomanie":
the term is french, though you could probably tell. it's the art of putting images from paper onto other things, usually glass or porcelain but can be furniture, too, and is where the word 'decal' came from, so stickers evolved from that artform. it's also a term for what some surreal artists were known for, putting paint between two pieces of paper and pressing them together. sort of like what was done with the fruit in this mv
in south korea, the term is often used for how close people, usually couples, start looking alike. it's also a nickname solar and wheein have for themselves with solar as decal and wheein as comanie
as for the theme, in south korea there's this concept of a woman blossoming after a first kiss (sort of like the pg version of what much of the rest of the world thinks) and the girls in the mv wanted to experience this, so they tracked down some suitable prey but also made him think he was the predator picking them off one by one. note after they get what they want the guy totally disappears since he was a means to an end, not an end goal itself
the actor used is gay, btw, and is a non-korean model and actor who lives in south korea. apparently rbw's ceo picked him specifically because he was gay, so the girls would feel more comfortable doing these intimate scenes with him. it didn't quite work out, though, since there are some hilarious behind the scenes of them having to redo many of these scenes, esp with wheein, who started making fun of her own shyness
oh, and the music used during the kissing scenes... that's another song on the same album, "draw draw draw", also called "memory" (the album itself is 'memory'). the song has an mv of its own but is very much a christmas song when you hear the whole thing
and last up, "decalcomanie" was the first mamamoo mv shot by zany bros, a well-known video directing company that does mvs for a lot of the bigger groups out there. since then, they've done every major mv of the group and many of their solo stuff, with hwasa's "maria" and "lmm" being the only exceptions i can recall off the top of my head. so be ready for a sharp upgrade in video quality but also be prepared for a lot of stuff basically shot in a warehouse, even though it looks pretty with all the set pieces, color, decor and lighting. the major exceptions, such as "starry night" and "wind flower" really stand out specifically because they're done outdoors

@@SinghReacts since then, the ceos of rbw and zany bros have gotten quite close, so we expect pretty much every mv from rbw artists to be zb ones and, for the most part, they are, despite some fans wanting the artists to try other directors (like hwasa did with her most recent solos).
it's been a good thing overall, esp for zb since they've got exactly one artist signed to their label (which they created just for her, since none of the big labels wanted to sign her for some silly reason). alexa is the artist, a korean-american solo artist born in texas. she's kind of considered an honorary member of the rbw artist family since she practices and records at rbw, mostly uses their composers, songwriters and producers and gets to hang out with the rbw artists. all of her mvs are, of course, done by zb.
she's actually a background character in mamamoo's "gogobebe", though this is before she debuted. she's also appeared in "end of spring" by onewe and done the english voiceover work for a series of releases explaining the story that went on between two songs from oneus. so very much honorary member of the artist family
