First, you don't pick your bias. Your bias picks you (even if it's more than one). As for me, I'm initially drawn to female idols with deeper voices. Coincidently they are often rappers. So in Mamamoo, my bias is Moonbyul. But Wheein is right on her heels as my bias wrecker. With Dreamcatcher it was different. It was the vocals that called to me then, making Siyeon my bias and Yoohyeon my bias wrecker. Can't wait until you start your journey with (G)-IDLE.
For me, They're all my TOP ULTIMATE BIASES a long time. They're so meaningful to me. I love their personalities, vocals, songs, and live performances. They've every genre of song. Whatever song chooses you'll like it. SO WELCOME TO THE MOOMOO's FIELD.
There are SO MANY Insomnia that are Moomoos. Both groups are vocal powerhouse unique concept crackhead beagle energy queens.
Rule of moo: even if your bias is ____, your bias is wheein. (Mine is moonbyul ...and thus wheein HAHA)
Can't wait for wheein and hwasa introduction. Trust me, even you have bias, you will love all of them for sure. For me, my bias is moonbyul because i always have a thing for deeper husky voice. And her rap flow are incredibly sick for someone who didnt know rap at all and learn rap by herself (plus write all of her rap verses). Byul's rap always good and fit on every MMM songs.
About solar, wheein, hwasa, these 3 are my wreckers. Most of girl group always have similar tone when they sing/rap. But MMM vocals have identity to each voices.
Solar (power+strong voice), wheein (sweet+honey voice), hwasa (raspy+sexy voice), moonbyul (deep+husky voice). Actually MMM is first girl group that made me be able to love woman as much as i love man (and i'm straight woman btw) 😁😍
One thing that wasn't mentioned here is, Solar taught Moonbyul how to rap, sounds weird but yes, since you saw byul was vocal trainee at first but for mamamoo member when had to go for rap then solar helped her and another thing, if you noticed byul has that signature on her rap which is "Growl', and Hwasa taught byul this signature growling. so we can say mamamoo is mamamoo bcs of member support equally

When Moon talks about not fitting their earlier style, I think it also had to do with the fact that early mamamoo was all about heels and showing legs.
But welcome to the crackheadery of this group! Been on the journey since predebut and let me tell you, it's easier just to claim the whole group as you bias and just accept getting biased wrecked by a different individual per song 😂
Yeah, and byul is conservative. She doesn't comfortable to show much skin and does sexy dance. And that's why i love her so much. Byul is just unique. But i'm glad that the CEO let byul being herself nowaday.

Yeah that's right moonbyul's rap is one of the reasons why I love mamamoo. I personally don't like rapping on songs that's why at first I don't like kpop songs but rapping in mamamoo songs really fit the songs and I love it coz it's diverse rapping like it's not just the typical rapping where you talk fast.
I don't have a Mamamoo bias, as they're incredibly strong as a group...but my favorite individual idol is Wheein. For me, picking a bias is only something I do for groups I don't stan or groups that are really big. Like, my Loona biases are Chuu, Yves, JinSoul, Kim Lip, Olivia Hye, and YeoJin because those are the members whose names I remember and voices I recognize and appreciate most often. Dreamcatcher and Mamamoo are both small enough for me to be OT7 and OT4, respectively, because I know each members strengths and charms well. Mamamoo is a lot like Dreamcatcher in that the members are very natural with each other and they absolutely adore their fans.
One thing to keep in mind about Mamamoo is that there are several different eras and so their sound changes quite often. There's not much in the way of "spoilers" by hearing a tidbit of a song from a different era but I have to warn you that most compilation videos are made up of live stages, variety shows, and Mamamoo TV(it's behind the scenes contents for their MVs, promotions, concerts, and other activities) clips. So if you really want to watch everything in order with no knowledge of future songs it's probably best not to watch any crack or compilation videos. Also, Killing Voice would be out of the question, as it contains snippets of almost every title track(the title tracks from Piano Man, Pink Funky, Purple, and Melting were omitted).
Bias is really something I’m doing for you guys so you know who catches my attention the most, which is what I did for Dreamcatcher lol. I love them all equally but there’s always one that sticks out a little more! Plus it’s fun to talk about 😂
That’s my only issue with getting to the killing voice video because I know they sing multiple songs that I probably haven’t heard yet lol
And imagine us NCTzens choosing a bias from NCT with 23 members lol at some point the bias is whoever lol we love all our boys though
I do think fitting her rap in was her only problem with mamamoo style but also their hyper girlie style at the beginning with a lot of skirts and high heels which now you almost never see Moon in anymore bc she embraced a more traditionally masculine style. She also wanted to be a vocalist so im sure it was hard at first not getting that role.
From the comments it looks like you're introducing the members to other people too. Nice. Sharing info and love for the music and the artists is what it's all about.
My bias is Solar because she's the one who can bring me to tears with the bend of a note. She's not just a power belter but you'll find that out as you go along. Many moomoos can't pick a bias and are OT4. It's worth noting that Wheein bias wrecks practically everyone whose bias is another member. She's everyone's beloved kid sister no matter how old you are. But regarding Solar I'm not into having a bias and resisted the notion when I first got into kpop. I didn't even like Solar at first. I thought she was the kpop equivalent of a crackhead cheerleader with pipes. After hearing her do ballads on Immortal Songs and the solo covers she released in her Solar's Emotion series she won me over and I gradually learned that there's a whole lot more to her multi-faceted personality than meets the eye at first glance. Purple Hawke only went into her leader role in a jokey way but her leadership of MMM is one of the keys to their creativity, synergy and success as a group.
The song you liked by Moonbyul is called Absence. There's a performance video of it rather than an MV. She has several solo songs in that r&b vein such as In My Room and Love and Hate.
All the members write lyrics. Moonbyul has the most credits because she writes all her rap verses, then Hwasa and Solar, who are also credited as composer or co-composer on some songs. Wheein does the least amount of songwriting but the quality of her songs is just as high as the others. They all play one or more instruments too, which of course helps if you want to write music.
i wouldn't exactly say wheein does the least amount of songwriting. just that the fewest of her works have become official songs so far. kdh has said he's sitting on a stack of songs she's written that he's waiting for the right time to release. hopefully some of those will be in her upcoming album...
i know with both her art and her poetry she's very shy about letting anyone see most of it, even hwasa, and we know how close those two are. wouldn't be surprised if her songwriting is similar, esp with how similar it can often be to poetry
also, on the solar's leadership, hopefully that'll get some of the focus in part 3 of this guide whenever it's released. because even with the guides about it like htimf's, it still gets overlooked quite a bit

Man I can't wait for PT 2! It's been a minute since I got excited for an mmm reaction even though they're my ult. Take your time with a bias, I've been a moomoo for two years and I'm still trying to figure out if it's even possible to choose one and not change my mind every other day. Moonbyul is one of the most naturally talented rappers and singers I've ever seen. Like fuck high notes, moonbyul sings with such a unique and balanced tone. And solar is one of the most motivated, inspired people. She is easily the mmm member who puts out the most content and doesn't give a shit what people think of her. I can't wait to experience ur mamamoo journey -- and maybe I'll get into some dreamcatcher while I'm at it :)

gonna try to avoid another massive novel here but lets see...
as others have already said, those song clips you get at the beginning of each member's segment are their solo songs. solar has the fewest official solos, having had her official debut as a soloist last year with "spit it out". she actually has a lot of solo work released, though most of it is covers or collabs. she's even got a series called 'solar's emotions', which is 8-9 covers of songs that speak to her for various reasons. many are things her parents listened to but others are just things she overheard somewhere and was 'whoa, i need to know this song'. she's also the first member of mamamoo (and first 3rd gen girl group member) to have her own solo concert, just a few years after debut. her recent ost, "blue bird" is very, very much worth checking out whenever you get aorund to solos, btw
with byul, quite a few of her songs aren't really rap-heavy, they're often more emotional things... even to the point that half the fandom calls them 'emo bops', songs such as "in my room" or "absence". a fun thing about "absence", the one you asked about here... she wrote the song based off the relationship of a pair of characters in a drama. funny enough, byul is also the second 3rd gen girl group member to have a solo concert, an online one she did last year.
the intro song is indeed something mamamoo performed. i don't know if it's got an actual name or not. they used it to introduce themselves on the show 'yu huyeoul's sketchbook' for one episode. the show has amazing performances from the girls and many other artists and has a fantastic audio system but, sadly, isn't something that should be reacted to because it's owned by kbs, who is fond of copyright strikes at random times
they've been on the show a lot, often doing medleys or covering songs of other artists alongside their own. and the host, a musician himself, is basically a proud father any time they're on his show
i'll try to skip over my usual comments about their feminist battles and their support of the lgbtq+ community, though you'll likely see those get mentioned for certain songs. just know, they're considered to be at the forefront of korea's still-burgeoning feminism movement and just watching this guide you can easily see some of the battles three of the members choose to fight. each one has more than these three, and they all support each other's battles as well
the 'play with bread' part during solar's yt channel segment, those three corgis are actually byul's dogs. she's gotten a fourth dog since, a rescue. solar has a new dog, too, also a rescue (her previous dog passed away last year, after being with her for 18 years). wheein has a cat, a scottish fold. hwasa is allergic to fur so doesn't have any pets. though she pretends a few stuffed animals she has are pets. for the longest time, it was 'lion', a large stuffed lion, but more recently she's seen babying what looks like a stuffed animal golden retriever
and that part near the end with moonbyul tasting some food and then getting wheein to try it... that's from her online concert. she actually did a cooking segment in the middle of it, made what she called a souffle and had the staff try it out. they... were not impressed, so she tried it herself to see why. and then conviced poor wheepup to try it out. lately, she's been saying she wants to cook for moomoos but i'm not sure how many will actually trust her food. (that said, hwasa and wheein have both proven to be good cooks at various times)

And if I were to describe every members voice
Solar: Powerful voice and belts that make you go AHHHHHH and definitely would grab your attention
Moonbyul: I'd say she's got dark voice, her tone suits perfectly for angsty songs (check Mirror, In my room, Worthless and Absence). Her voice has that kind of emotion that makes you sad (and gay). She's definitely my type of singer.
Wheein: idk man she sends me straight to heaven. Smooth belts, amazing falcetto. She weaves in and out on their songs and brings together every members. She's definitely one of the ace of Kpop. People kinda ignore her first but once they WheeIn they can't WheeOut.
Hwasa: She's like a devil seducing you with her sultry voice.
And I have been a moomoo since Piano Man era and I have to admit I can't choose any bias and its same to other moo's. Many of us are OT4

My bias is Mamamoo. No other group comes close to their level of talent and I love their songs (Kim Do Hoon is their CEO and main songwriter), and I find their talents blend seamlessly together such that I can't pick one as the "best". Hwasa is sultry and sexy, Solar is pretty and amazing, Wheein is cute and sweet like honey, and Moonbyul brings in the depth most girl groups just don't have.
If no one has brought it up, the "ship" between Moonbyul and Solar, called MoonSun from their combined names, is the biggest ship in K-Pop. Reaction videos to MoonSun on Crack by Tomiskus generally get LOTS of views if you want to check it out yourself. Dreamcatcher gets lots of comments like "Gaycatcher" as well, though I don't see it myself, but Mamamoo is known as the gayest girl group in K-Pop, and for good reason. There are several videos on that topic as well if you want to react to those.
That’s the kinda thing I want! CEO of my own entertainment company and composing my artists songs!
I think the gaycatcher stuff is mostly SuA and Siyeon and any one of them with Handong 😂😂 but I’ll dive into some ship vids if you guys wanna see that!

Fair warning, the TV shows don't like reaction videos and hit them with copyright claims, but RBW never comes down on reaction channels at all that I have heard.

You should definitely check out Solar's two videos on the double pole dance, 1st one she's learning, 2nd one is the final product, done to her own solo song, "Hello". Both are excellent, and sexy as hell. Her visit to the deserted island also takes up two vids and is worth watching for the humor content. But "What's in my fridge?", "What's in my wallet?", and "What's on my phone?" I would give a pass. Solar cutting her own hair was an April Fool's prank... it was her extensions she was hacking away at and not her own hair.

I think when Moonbyul said that she find MAMAMOO concept difficult for her because she is very conservative and hate sexy movements. MAMAMOO concept during their debut days was all about sexy movements and short dresses like that.

Actually they performed on Immortal Songs where in they will sing a song of their seniors and it was more on ballad. Of course Moonbyul wrote her rap verses and she said that it was very hard to put a rap that don't exist on the song. So I get what you mean about incorporating her rap to their songs.
She was a member of a Vocal Group so of course it was very hard for her to blend in. But she tried to fit in and look at her now. She has the confidence now that she lost during their debut days.
I think she’s amazing lol very good rapper, excellent flow and of course writes and composes! I’ll have to see how she fits in with the live stages when the other members are popping off with the vocals lol

You seem to not understand the word androgynous. It isn’t an insult. It just means her style is ambiguous in terms of gender. Byul doesn’t like to dress overly girlie and prefers suits, snap backs, hoodies, sneakers, etc.
I’m familiar with the term it’s more that I didn’t see the need to explain it as such because I find her very attractive and more importantly insanely talented. But I suppose most people aren’t quite as open minded and that’s why they added that. I didn’t mean to insinuate they were insulting her

Moonbyul doesn't have androgynous features, and the style of dancing she does is not masculine. it's not like belly dance which is feminine.
the Solar muscle thing is a bit too cringy. they do it for fun and the one that made the video present it as true. she cannot hold a person in her arm. not even Moonbyul which is slim and not thick like Hwasa.
