I would have thought that would be listed in the “what’s included section”?

The gts boxter is quite the sportscar. I like it better than the 911 because it's something meant to be driven daily without reservations or being too pretentious or hard edge. The handling dynamics are so wonderful when you push it and that incredible level of confidence at 9/10ths pace, and that sound with the top down just perfect!

I Test drove a 2017 718 Boxster about 3 years ago (Background---I was a Mercedes test driver in Stuttgart for 4 years in the early 2000's... owned a BMW 1-Series over there), and the 718 is, of course, phenomenal!
So when Sweetcars got a 2001Boxster S in Seal Gray on consignment, I HAD to pull the trigger--- even with "only" 250 HP from the 3.2-liter SIX, I'm always, Always left with a beaming from grin! AND THE SOUND! Came with Sport Exhaust, and the Symphony from 3500 to 6000 is absolutely addictive!
The extra bits and bobs Porsche puts into the Boxster S are Unmistakable and you won't want to live without them once you've experienced the difference!
This IS POSSIBLY the most pivotal Series for Porsche, since it's inclusion breathed new life into Porsche sales, and possibly saved the company.
It's a piece of Porsche history that cannot be overstated and I never want to give up this car... Only add others! Dream Cars from the Porsche lineup?
    997 Turbo S
    If I'm ever wealthy, A GT3 Touring.

I test drove a new GTS 4 litre because that's all the dealer had, but really wanted to try a 2.5 (as that's all I was prepared to pay). Two days later I got that opportunity. I've watched so many YT videos on Porsche's and owners preferences/bias, the 911 v anything else, but also the 6 v 4 cylinders. If there's a perceived snob value in the 911 camp then it seems there's also one in the 6 cylinder camp. At the end of the day we choose what we like (within our personal financial limits). For me, I actually preferred the 2.5, (regardless of the cost difference) although I never did drive the 981 2.7 or 3.4 so I'll never know about those. I get my 2.5 later this week 🤗

You chose wisely, the 2.5 easily the best motor for these. The 4.0 is going to need quite a few mods to get it sounding half decent and it will never have the performance numbers of a tuned 2.5. Well done. My 981 gts was quite a soundtrack to drive to but left me wanting for more power, but would still have that over the new 4.0. The 2.5 is just in a different league to the 4.0l thou.

@@Malcom2345I absolutely agree! Porsche did such a great job on this motor, that I believe they dropped it to not surpass the flat 6. Any further development on the 2.5 would leave the N/A flat 6’s look underwhelming, regardless if it was a 911 or 718. Simple tune on the 2.5 bumps it around 440-450hp (APR). That will definitely walk away from a gt4 or most N/A 911’s track or street.
GTS 2.5’s with some simple suspension upgrades, already hold their own vs the above mentioned cars. Now toss in that tune……

    Hi Ped
I have been eagerly awaiting this video, and have to say it did not disappoint. It too me back to 2016 when I finally decided to fulfill a long held dream to buy a Porsche 911 Carrera S convertible. The search was great experience and it came down to a choice of two, one manual, second PDK. As we were planning continental holidays, it had to be PDK, a choice I never regretted. Our first trip was to Monaco for the Classic meeting. On route in Dijon region had a puncture in rear n/s tyre. Porsche assistance brilliant organised a hire car at no charge for us to continue our journey ( it was a national holiday weekend, everything closed down including Porsche dealers. My car was finally returned to me in Nice 5 days later, and my credit Eu940 lighter for two Pirelli P Zero. As my car was AWD Porsche insisted both tyres on the rear axle have equal tread depth. Oh the joys of Porsche ownership. However I will conclude by saying best and most enjoyable car I have owned.

Great video. Good to see a video that doesn’t trash the 2.5L 718 GTS.
I purchased a 718 Cayman S last year. Due to production constraints, here in the US I was able to get the S model way earlier than a GTS. In fact, I would probably still be waiting for a GTS allocation.
Getting the S allowed for some different exterior and interior options not available on the GTS.
Performance-wise, the 2.5L power band is much lower in the rev range - and therefore much more usable - than the 4.0L six.
Sound difference? Meh, insignificant to me. The four sounds fine in sport mode.
Having come from a MK III Audi TT RS, that five cylinder spoiled me for life. Neither the 2.5L or 4.0L Porsche engines come close to the Audi sound-wise.

Have just taken delivery of a 2024 Boxster GTS 4.0l Manual here is Aust. (3 weeks old), Love it. Metallic Black, Guards Red Dials and Seatbelts. Extended Aluminium pack with extensive leather and Race Teck interior. Love it. I'd imagine there's not much performance difference between the 4.0 and the 2.5 but would expect the way they make power and the driving experience to be different. Not better or worse just different. Came out of a PDK 981s. The PDK is a brilliant gearbox but the manual just suits the GTS in my opinion!. Only regret is that I went for the 2 way sports seats and not the 18 way sports seats. Just getting in and out is much easier with the 18 way seats. Hope you do get to compare the 4.0l and 2.5l back to back soon.

When I owned my old 981 Boxster S I had a GTS like yours when it was boing serviced. It was clearly a better car in terms of performance and handling. You could feel subtle improvements everywhere. But when I got my car back, that flat 6 made the experience just better. The 981 Boxster is I think the sweet spot. Get a 981 GTS and you have the best Boxster. I now own a 718 Spyder but because of the OPF the sound has been ruined really. I have a device that stops the valves closing and it helps but still nowhere near the old cars. The Spyder is an amazing car but the soundtrack is missing.

I can see Porsche's point about the radiator grilles and warranty. It's the same issue with the oil radiator on my BMW R9T motorbike - to fit a grill or not? No doubt Porsche will argue that they have sized the radiators to give adequate cooling in all outside air temperatures with the rad intake unrestricted. Any grill will restrict the flow through the rad, often more so than might seem obvious. For instance, you might still get 90% of the airflow with a grill in place, but that airflow will be turbulent having passed through the grill, and turbulent air will hit the rad at odd angles and might not flow through the rad core in a linear and relatively unrestricted fashion.
Chances are in UK it won't matter as we don't often get air temps much above 35C whereas the car is probably speced to operate in much higher temps than that. But you know Germans - rules is rules; they designed it the way it is, not the way you've modded it!

Very little done except standard services, fixed a micro switch, fixing a door handle cable, engine and gearbox mounting rubbers/ bushes, shocks as well as replacing rear plastic window and starter overhaul. Now smoking a bit on start does not need anything serious currently. Some led's died on dashboard and will require a indicator lever recon. That it. Certainly one of the best marques on the planet. I see THE Boxster smile on your face. A Great Video, as usual.
My car is almost identical to your car. I have the 2ltr PDK model with S+ and in the same external colour as yours. It has your GTS front and rear end which makes this 718 model pop. The Extra kit includes the additional coolant radiator in the mid-front that your car has as standard. I have the Zansport grills too and have added my DIY side grills inside the cowlings so that it does not spoil the car's looks. My interior is two-tone leather with a black dash and red seating. I have been lucky enough to have had 4 Boxsters over the past 20 years and the boxer 4-cylinder turbo 718 is the cream of the crop. You mention the low-down torque. This is what makes the difference when in everyday driving. My previous 981 2.7lt had to be set to sport most of the time when negotiating normal 2-lane roads to "keep it on the boil" (as did my other 6-cylinder S 986 model). I don't need to use the sport mode so frequently in the 718. It just powers through without the need to change down. I guess some drivers prefer a manual Gearbox to introduce more drama in their driving. Each to their own. I was lucky enough to test all three 718's at Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone when they were first introduced. I could not tell the difference in performance between the 2.0ltr and 2.5ltr S. The 718 GTS seems better in the cornering due to the ceramic brakes that were fitted to the test car. They gave a better feel and grip in the tight corners but when will I be doing that on the public highway? So, after the Porsche test, I decided to purchase the 2ltr with the GTS Bodypack. All my Boxsters have lived active lives by going to the European Alps every year. I live in the North East of Scotland where the roads allow me to travel all over North Scotland, including the Western Isles, and it is always a great pleasure driving a Porsche here (less traffic) as well as in the Alps.
So, happy Boxstering and have a great time on your Podium Trip.
NB: I would hold back on taking your car on track at Nurburgring. It's other drivers you have to watch out for! Go as a passenger with someone else.
Yes, "what a dream" car. Smiles all the way!

I now own a 4.0 GTS Cayman and whilst it has a lot more lower end torque than the 3.8l 981 lump it can't match the 2.5l turbo for the bottom end grunt. Love the look of Lady P. I think the sound is great. It has its own sound and without doubt the power delivery is a step up on the flat 6 that’s in my 981. The tour sounds epic. id love to do that but we will have just returned from a family hol so too soon for me. Maybe next year though. And for what its worth, I did the Nurburgring a few years ago and did one lap late on a Friday evening when it was pretty clear. It’s an incredible experience unlike any other road/track. Once i’d done it once, it was ticked off and then I just enjoyed watching everyone else with a beer in my hand. The roads around the ring are also incredible.

Nice to read that you enjoyed the Ring. I'am lucky i "only" live 290km from the Nürburgring. I have visited it a many times since 2008. About 9 years i have driven it with a seasoncard so i could drive so many laps as i wanted.
      I have driven there with a Honda S2000 and a R53 GP.
My first lap was with a Triumph Stag, it was before TH-cam got big and i didn't know how the road was going.🤣and i had no track experience.
@Pete: I recommand to take a taxi lap first before driving yourself. And 30 April will be very busy because it is a long weekend Green Hell Driving days.
I will be at the Ring with Eastern, but maybe i will be there at 30 April too, because i would like to see you enjoying the Nürburgring.😉
I have a link of a lap in my Mini GP, filmed on a very empty Ring. th-cam.com/video/M3Kt8h9CzIo/w-d-xo.html
Read nuerburgring.de/info/company/gtc/driving-regulations and nuerburgring.de/driving/touristdrives/safety-regulations before driving on the Ring.

    To most people the 718
Boxter Gts is a very nice car, but it is the poor relation to the 981 Gts
or the 718 4 litre Gts.
The former can be found for circa 50k, many very low milage. I would have bought one of these for the 6cyl engine and less depreciation. Alternatively for circa 70K a 4 litre car could be found. A wholly better car and less likely to be criticised than the old 718 Gts by the Porsche pundits.

Great video Pete, and look forward to the comparison with the 4.0. I drove the 718 base 2.0 with PDK and loved it, but I think the GTS has the right amount of power. However you can get a Z4 M40i for under £35k now and that’s a big saving over £50k. I’m not saying it’s on par, but it makes a decision like this really hard if you’re in the market for a convertible. A buddy of mine took me out in his 987 boxster with a 2.7 and manual shift which he picked up for less than £6K on eBay, what a car. I thought it would disappoint boy I was wrong.

Purchased my first Boxster recently, 987.2 Black Edition and for me personally the flat 6 is a must have as part of the Porsche experience but certainly not knocking anyone who disagrees. This looks amazing and I’ve read that the 718 steering is perfection. Also trying finance for the first time as the residuals on these are very strong so should build up a good amount of equity in the car over a 2/3 year ownership and then upgrade to a 981 Cayman GTS!

It is a great way to learn some of the world-famous racing tracks, especially the Nordschleife, short of a simulator. I am not joking: you will learn the track and how to drive it. Great to see and hear your enthusiasm for your 718 GTS. Not sure about the Milltek exhaust over a standard Porsche Sports exhaust system? I think I'm over noisy exhausts as today I followed an RS6 on a motorway for about 30 miles in my Macan GTS and was cruising fairly fast but without too must drama. Every time the RS6 guy booted his car it sounded comedy loud and really drew attention to it - bloody fast yes but ...Oh and reading the comments reminded me WTF are they like in the SoF for bloody tyres?! Disgusting. Wouldn't Porsche recover you? Didn't you buy a Porsche warranty for the GTS did it have balance of warranty? ~Even if it didn't (I know it was bought from Harbour Cars but) you can still buy an official Porsche Warranty from Porsche OPC's Yes you pay for the check but it's so worthwhile.
Keep top the brilliant content mate!

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

The exhaust is really not ‘look at me’ 👍 I’ve still got a warranty but my insurance policy (Lockton Performance) looked after me. The issue I had was a bank holiday. I had no idea until it was too late that they would rip me off 😳
