i just got my fuse box in the trunk replaced on my 2012 chevy malibu ls earlier today... cost me $800 here in Vegas and it fixed my fuel pump relay short issue
Having the same issue with my 2011 Malibu, along with other issues as well. Keyless entry, rear defrost (fuse burnt up from short). All I have to do is pop the trunk and it will start, don't even need to mess with the fuse box. This morning my wife said as soon as she popped the trunk the radio started playing. I am sure that it is all related to a short related to this fuse box, just haven't tracked it down yet.
Found the problem, it's a loose connection in the fuel pump relay. Mine did the same thing and chased the problem back to the connection to the fuel pump relay. FYI

My 2011 Malibu is doing the exact same thing I was just moving the wires around and it would start but now it won't start at all .. is it just the wires that's the issue or more to it? I've noticed when it doesn't start I don't hear the fuel pump but after moving the wires around I'll hear it .. I've had it to the shop 2 different times they claim there isn't anything wrong they make me feel so stupid lol
I have a 2012 malibu that had the exact same problem. Everyone will say it's the fuel pump, but it's not. It's the fuse box in the trunk that's burnt. Just replace that, it's real easy. There's atleast one wire/lead that has melted into the plastic that will have to be replaced at dealer.

I own one and know what the issue was. I replaced the fuel pump and still had the issue. It spent nearly two weeks in the shop and a GM dealer. They had to replace the entire fuse box in the trunk. When they took it off there’s a short at the fuel pump. That’s why when you hit it it started.

Smh I still have 2 years to pay on the car so it's pissing me off. I get regular maintenance on it so I shouldn't have a problem. I'm going to try your suggestion. Mine is 2008. It wouldn't start. Acted like the battery was dead. Found out the copper band under the fuse box had a break in it. Had it soldered up and that was 2 years ago still going strong.
I had a similar problem with my Impala. Turned out it was a failure of the GM antitheft pass lock system they had installed. Every now and then the system was completely shut down thinking I was trying to steal it and it took over 10 minutes to restart the computer in order for me to get the car running again. It’s a freaking headache
First vehicle I owned was a 2009 WROST CAR EVER!!!!!!! Had nothing but problems with it fix one thing something else went on it. Thank god I have a bigger vehicle now that I can depend on.
Hey buddy open your fuse box plastic and look for the starter and run/crank they go bad with Malibu’s the plastic around it won’t click it over so try replacing the fuse relays
I had some problems the other day too. Mine is the same car but an LTZ. The car didn't have a check engine light. Would start but stall after 5 seconds, roughly run then stall. I eventually took the engine cover off, had to disconnect the MAF. So the car would start and run with E fine cover off, meaning throttle body was uncovered. Turned out it was a bad MAF sensor. But I feel this car might have electrical issues. I had to replace the whole throttle body, cuz the position sensor is part of it and that what was causing the problem.
Shane F that was overall the issue here. The only problem was that it was burning out. So the mechanic created a separate channel for it. Hasn't failed since.
I'm currently having this issue. I have changed my starter, altenator, battery and fuel pump and they also replaced the relay. It will work fine when im driving around but after I cut it off it wont start. It's almost like it has to cool down for an entire day and then the next day it will start up fine. I have put $1800 into this issue the past month and i'm over it!!!
Had this issue for 6 months it’s your fuse box in the trunk. Get it replaced. Think ours was just under $200 if I remember right. Haven’t had the issue 2 years later. It was an every day thing
There is copper wiring that shortens when it gets hot. Once it cools down the wiring connects back together and your car can start. The heat makes the cheap material separate and when it cools down it bonds back together.

I sold my 2009 ! I stoped the suffering and guessing for what was wrong. ESC warning , service traction, third brake light sometimes work, remote power locks & trunk not working, power steering ( sensors) went bad, low beam headlight and socket keep burning. Last thing everybody ,check your carpet passenger side and rear seat carpet , condensed water from ac drain will drip inside cabin instead outside.
My had the same dame problem took it to GM certified mechanics and they had a hard time. They first replaced two sensors... still the same. Second they replaced the computer and still the same. Lastly they replaced the fuse box next to battery and that fixed....a year later I started getting the power steering error and thats when I got rid of the POS

I think a TSB exists about the wiring being pinched under the rear seat. Do some TSB research at BBBindustries.com you will find the info. I'm trying to solve my own no start no crank intermittent right now and strange electrical issues as well. I think I'm close. Possible defective battery ground cable.

So here we go guys. Had my 2012 Chevy Malibu lt for 5 Plus years. Got my car back fall 2016 from my uncle. it was in the shop for almost a year while after a freak accident late 2015. From that time on guys. New fuel pump, air filter, brakes, tires, battery alternator starter still solid, the fuse box got realigned, camshafts solenoids replaced myself Christmas 2016( both of them) and the position sensor as of recent day. Fast forward now 2018, cranking my car it doesn't even start. Scanned the car the same code appears p0013, Got it jumped multiple times doesn't even cut on now. What could it be?

I know this is a year old but mine is now doing the same thing the trunk button works half the time the mirror adjuster only works left and right and some times only up and down my tail light has been going on and off every once in a while and now my heated seats turn on whenever they feel like it

Hey sorry for the late response. It's definitely a wiring issue. Seems to be associated with the fuel pump relay. I took my car to a local mechanic who runs a small shop. Hey created a separate slot for the wires the kept burning out. The car has been running great with zero issues for the past month. Don't take it to the dealer or call GM they will not help you. Take it to a mechanic and tell them exactly what I told you here.

For everyone having this problem check where the harness plugs into the BCM. There's a connector that breaks and it holds the harness in (BCM is behind radio, passenger side). The GM part # is 88987848, you may have to special order it and it cost about 25 bucks. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself tell your mechanic to check this first, trust me.
Ive had my malibu for about 18 months now and have had no major problems. Ive had this same problem hes having but it was a fuel pump relay in the trunk and i got it bypassed. Ive had problems with the mass air flow sensor getting dirty and making it studder but havnt had anything bad happen, knock on wood lol
So my 2012 Malibu is starting to do the same thing the remote start will lock and unlock the car but when I get in it doesn’t start and sometimes shuts down completely where there is nothing on but if I let it sit for a few minutes it’s like it’s charging back up. I have a 2008 Malibu 3.6 and I’m have that same problem . But it was my starter wire being burned out. Then I had that repaired and it cooked my starter. So I had fixed again and the mechanic put a heat shield around the wire. It hasn’t happened until we got some snow in Michigan and it’s cold. So I don’t believe this is happening again. Ridiculous
He eventually did end up fixing the issue. It was a fuel pump relay that kept burning out. Not sure what was causing it. He rewired a separate channel for the fuel pump relay. Hasn't burned out since and has started every single time. Ever since I had that work done on it the back window defrost won't turn on, a short in the heat and a/c switch. Have to tap on the dash to get it to turn on.
Britnay Cavazos I think it was the fuel pump relay that kept burning out for some reason. Mechanic wired the relay by itself and that completely fixed the problem.

I use to be able to wiggle wire harness under right dash inside and AC and heat fan would come on. now it apparently caught fire the wire is burnt. Not covered by my extended warranty of course. Since buying the car in 2018 I have found a short in right side headlight and there is a problem with washer fluid pump. This is not a good car or warrenty 2600.00 on the 3 warranty and nothing is covered. No AC no heat no washer fluid head light keeps going off??? I am so 😡. GM

I have the same car and have many different intermittent electrical issues. Now my cruise button works but the res, set, , info and back buttons won't work. It's like they're locked. I also have intermittent issues with the seat belt light not sensing when I have it on. Sometimes I can keep reinserting the buckle and eventually it'll sense it and quit beeping at me. The passenger airbag light used to do similar things even when no one was in that seat. Some sort of Cam sensor was fixed. (Throttle position?) The engine light was on for that. Many other issues too. My car just rolled 90k miles and it's been babied. This car is just junk.

My 2011 Chevy Malibu was misfiring on cylinder 2 and cylinder 4 and the computer was saying that cylinder 2 and cylinder 4 fuel injectors are stuck open I put new injectors new coils new spark plugs and it worked for about an hour in the same codes were popping up again so I changed every single sensor around the motor took it to the dealer they diagnosed it was the alternator which that wasn't the problem drove it around and it was saying the same thing cylinder 2 and cylinder 4 misfire and the fuel injectors we're stuck open I replace the fuel injector wire harness and still the same problem I change the computer and had to have it programmed and still the same thing at this point I'm scratching my head so the last thing it could have been was the whole engine wire harness I ordered one and replaced it it came with every plug to all the parts on the engine and my car is working like brand new
nizhoni 07 look into the fuse relay and look for the starter and run/crank fuse it’s a little square grey box usually they are known for going bad the plastic around the fuse won’t grip it and it won’t start the fuse

I replaced the relay and a few times it Gave me the same issues , car wouldn’t start at the gas station and a stranger helped me and said he had the same issue with the Malibu and changed out the Fuse block and messed around with it , this was a week ago saints then my car starts every time!

I know the video is about 2 years old but I think I know what's your problem it's a relay fuel pump just replaced it and I'm pretty sure it's going to work it's behind the trunk where you're hitting it
This rarely fixes the issue. I have replaced the entire harness with fuse box which comes with new relay and I have replaced just the relay and my 2012 Malibu still does it. I also tap on the box and it runs. GM dealership is also baffled. Now they are trying to get me to replace the fuel pump for $700. If tapping on the box starts it I can't imagine the pump in the tank would be affected by tapping on the fuse box.
My headlights won't come on so I don't drive at night, and sometimes the brights don't work. My chk engine light is on and I'm at my wit's end haven't been able to pass emissions. Tag outdated wondering should I just let car go but I'm on oxygen and my lifeline to getting meds,groceries etc. Damn if I do...
I’m having same problem. I’ve changed sensors, relay, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel tank sensor… and the same thing happens. It just won’t turn on. I’ll get stuck at random times. My car just won’t start. Anyone have suggestions? I’m considering getting a new car because I’ve invested too much money into this Malibu and I’m not seeing any good news.
@@denise3170 my car eventually stopped working all together and after 3 mechanics I found out I had a wiring problem from the fuse box in the trunk to the fuel pump. They replaced the old wires and car started right up.

After months and months of this frustrating problem the chevy dealer finally found some evidence of 2008-2012 Malibus having this problem .. I wish I could upload a photo of the paper that describes how it needs to be fixed .. it's basically the fuel pump relay plug in that screws up $17 part and it's fixed!
@@victoralvarez4852 same thing it's happening to my car I had someone look at my carand he told me that when it runs hot on hot days that it's the fuel box that's up under the hood so if your car ever runs hot lift the hood up take the Black box off that's by the battery as well as a small box to reveal the fuse box and that's where it's running hot he told me that there's a wire once the wire is hot it expands from where it's supposed to be and once it cools down the rubber attractions back and that's why you're able to crank the car so in that instance it's the fuel box under the hood
GM has recalled the body control mod (computer) that's what could be causing the issues.. I have a 2011 Malibu so far no complaints my only concern is how the transmission shifts gears
My Malibu Maxx SS is a beautiful car but also a disaster. Mine shuts down while driving. Sometimes takes up to 30 minutes before it starts. Just a hateful & dangerous car.
My girl car was having the same problems we changed everything the dealer put in a computer and it still wont start I took it back to them and told them stop guessing and fix it..yall causing me money..so they found her problem it was a broken wire running from the front to the back to the fuel pump..so it was a broken wire on the fuel pump..I hope this help someone..
Never buy gm products. I had a Malibu too. I swear to god. I’ll never ever buy gm products. If u get a gm car, u basically get a big project for yourself

Try unplugging your connection to the box and clean the connection end. Inspect it for wear and plug it back in.

This car is riddled with electric problems. It's really a shame.
Change your fuel pump relay inside that fuse box bottom right corner towards the front.

Hey did you ever get it figured out? I have an 07 malibu and I usually just swap the fuel pump relay and the trunk relay and she'll fire right up....its been getting worse on longer trips for me though..any ideas from you ?
Arturo P I took it to a mechanic who created a separate channel for the relay that was burning out. Never had a problem since then.

I think a TSB exists about the wiring being pinched under the rear seat. Do some TSB research at BBBindustries.com you will find the info. I'm trying to solve my own no start no crank intermittent right now and strange electrical issues as well. I think I'm close. Possible defective battery ground cable.
Ours doesn't crank either. Im circling the starter but it might not even be that.
My 2011 Malibu is doing the same thing its tiring to deal with this I even replaced my fuel pump and I bet it was just my relay connection this whole time.
It'd be a fuel pump fuse or wiring issue, been a big issue in GM since even 2005 with our 04 equinox
So here we go guys. Had my 2012 Chevy Malibu lt for 5 Plus years. Got my car back fall 2016 from my uncle. it was in the shop for almost a year while after a freak accident late 2015. From that time on guys. New fuel pump, air filter, brakes, tires, battery alternator starter still solid, the fuse box got realigned, camshafts solenoids replaced myself Christmas 2016( both of them) and the position sensor as of recent day. Fast forward now 2018, cranking my car it doesn't even start. Scanned the car the same code appears p0013, Got it jumped multiple times doesn't even cut on now. What could it be?

I'm having similar problems. My headlights keep going out, the high beams only work when I'm holding it, sunroof is malfunctioning, and the auxiliary jack stop working.

I know this is a year old but mine is now doing the same thing the trunk button works half the time the mirror adjuster only works left and right and some times only up and down my tail light has been going on and off every once in a while and now my heated seats turn on whenever they feel like it

I'm now having the same electrical problems with my mirror controller and my trunk. However, I haven't taken it anywhere to get serviced because I know the car isn't worth the money to get fix.

Its probably the fuel pump relay. Take it to a small shop and have them check the relays near the box.

Hey sorry for the late response. It's definitely a wiring issue. Seems to be associated with the fuel pump relay. I took my car to a local mechanic who runs a small shop. Hey created a separate slot for the wires the kept burning out. The car has been running great with zero issues for the past month. Don't take it to the dealer or call GM they will not help you. Take it to a mechanic and tell them exactly what I told you here.

For everyone having this problem check where the harness plugs into the BCM. There's a connector that breaks and it holds the harness in (BCM is behind radio, passenger side). The GM part # is 88987848, you may have to special order it and it cost about 25 bucks. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself tell your mechanic to check this first, trust me.

Ive had my malibu for about 18 months now and have had no major problems. Ive had this same problem hes having but it was a fuel pump relay in the trunk and i got it bypassed. Ive had problems with the mass air flow sensor getting dirty and making it studder but havnt had anything bad happen, knock on wood lol

So my 2012 Malibu is starting to do the same thing the remote start will lock and unlock the car but when I get in it doesn’t start and sometimes shuts down completely where there is nothing on but if I let it sit for a few minutes it’s like it’s charging back up. I have a 2008 Malibu 3.6 and I’m have that same problem . But it was my starter wire being burned out. Then I had that repaired and it cooked my starter. So I had fixed again and the mechanic put a heat shield around the wire. It hasn’t happened until we got some snow in Michigan and it’s cold. So I don’t believe this is happening again. Ridiculous
I am having this same issue with my malibu 3.6. Replaced the ignition switch and still not working. Going to check starter wiring tomorrow.
He eventually did end up fixing the issue. It was a fuel pump relay that kept burning out. Not sure what was causing it. He rewired a separate channel for the fuel pump relay. Hasn't burned out since and has started every single time. Ever since I had that work done on it the back window defrost won't turn on, a short in the heat and a/c switch. Have to tap on the dash to get it to turn on.

Britnay Cavazos I think it was the fuel pump relay that kept burning out for some reason. Mechanic wired the relay by itself and that completely fixed the problem.

When the engine is hot and I step on the brakes it looks like fire works on my dash board and radio. Lights flickering but only when my foot is on the brakes. Any ideas?

Try just putting the gas all the way day and holding it as you start it & see if it starts if so I believe Ik what your issue is
I have a 2011 Chevy Malibu and it has a major electrical problem. I use to be able to wiggle wire harness under right dash inside and AC and heat fan would come on. now it apparently caught fire the wire is burnt. Not covered by my extended warranty of course. Since buying the car in 2018 I have found a short in right side headlight and there is a problem with washer fluid pump. This is not a good car or warrenty 2600.00 on the 3 warranty and nothing is covered. No AC no heat no washer fluid head light keeps going off??? I am so 😡. GM

I have a 2011 and my headlights will cut off. Radio quit working. Lights in my dash cut off. And to top the cake I've had this happen a few times where it won't start mine is in the front fuse panel and they really need to do a recall

I have the same car and have many different intermittent electrical issues. Now my cruise button works but the res, set, , info and back buttons won't work. It's like they're locked. I also have intermittent issues with the seat belt light not sensing when I have it on. Sometimes I can keep reinserting the buckle and eventually it'll sense it and quit beeping at me. The passenger airbag light used to do similar things even when no one was in that seat.
Some sort of Cam sensor was fixed. (Throttle position?) The engine light was on for that.
Many other issues too.
My car just rolled 90k miles and it's been babied. This car is just junk.
GM is no help at all I have a 2009 Malibu and it has a transmission problem with fluctuation rpms and they drove the car more then I had and still haven't fixed the problem there fix was to reset a shift sensor until my warranty runs out problem still happens worst car I ever owned
My 2011 Chevy Malibu was misfiring on cylinder 2 and cylinder 4 and the computer was saying that cylinder 2 and cylinder 4 fuel injectors are stuck open I put new injectors new coils new spark plugs and it worked for about an hour in the same codes were popping up again so I changed every single sensor around the motor took it to the dealer they diagnosed it was the alternator which that wasn't the problem drove it around and it was saying the same thing cylinder 2 and cylinder 4 misfire and the fuel injectors we're stuck open I replace the fuel injector wire harness and still the same problem I change the computer and had to have it programmed and still the same thing at this point I'm scratching my head so the last thing it could have been was the whole engine wire harness I ordered one and replaced it it came with every plug to all the parts on the engine and my car is working like brand new

nizhoni 07 look into the fuse relay and look for the starter and run/crank fuse it’s a little square grey box usually they are known for going bad the plastic around the fuse won’t grip it and it won’t start the fuse

I replaced the relay and a few times it Gave me the same issues , car wouldn’t start at the gas station and a stranger helped me and said he had the same issue with the Malibu and changed out the Fuse block and messed around with it , this was a week ago saints then my car starts every time!

127k miles on my 2012 Malibu. I had this issue pop up a few weeks ago. My mechanic said the fuel pump went out.
It’s sometimes starts sometimes it doesn’t. Even putting a new fuel pump assembly.

Man my 2011 malibu is mess up fr I replaced fuel pump I put new ecm in it!! Still won't crank then I change my crankshaft sensor still no crank so I remove my crankshaft sensor and it crank up but now my rpm & gauges not working!! I never going buy malibu again!!! I NEED CALL CHEVY AND FILE ME A CLAIM SO NEED SOME OF MY MONEY BACK 4SURE!!!
I know the video is about 2 years old but I think I know what's your problem it's a relay fuel pump just replaced it and I'm pretty sure it's going to work it's behind the trunk where you're hitting it

If it doesn't fix that problem you might have a bad fuel pump
Check all 4 relays on fuel pump before you start working on the fuel pump
This rarely fixes the issue. I have replaced the entire harness with fuse box which comes with new relay and I have replaced just the relay and my 2012 Malibu still does it. I also tap on the box and it runs. GM dealership is also baffled. Now they are trying to get me to replace the fuel pump for $700. If tapping on the box starts it I can't imagine the pump in the tank would be affected by tapping on the fuse box.

Barbara Clay had an issue with the interior lights after I put aftermarket LED lights in.
My headlights won't come on so I don't drive at night, and sometimes the brights don't work. My chk engine light is on and I'm at my wit's end haven't been able to pass emissions. Tag outdated wondering should I just let car go but I'm on oxygen and my lifeline to getting meds,groceries etc. Damn if I do...

I’m having same problem. I’ve changed sensors, relay, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel tank sensor… and the same thing happens. It just won’t turn on. I’ll get stuck at random times. My car just won’t start. Anyone have suggestions? I’m considering getting a new car because I’ve invested too much money into this Malibu and I’m not seeing any good news.
I replaced my fuse box and I am still having problems.
@@denise3170 my car eventually stopped working all together and after 3 mechanics I found out I had a wiring problem from the fuse box in the trunk to the fuel pump. They replaced the old wires and car started right up.

After months and months of this frustrating problem the chevy dealer finally found some evidence of 2008-2012 Malibus having this problem .. I wish I could upload a photo of the paper that describes how it needs to be fixed .. it's basically the fuel pump relay plug in that screws up $17 part and it's fixed!

@@victoralvarez4852 same thing it's happening to my car I had someone look at my carand he told me that when it runs hot on hot days that it's the fuel box that's up under the hood so if your car ever runs hot lift the hood up take the Black box off that's by the battery as well as a small box to reveal the fuse box and that's where it's running hot he told me that there's a wire once the wire is hot it expands from where it's supposed to be and once it cools down the rubber attractions back and that's why you're able to crank the car so in that instance it's the fuel box under the hood

GM has recalled the body control mod (computer) that's what could be causing the issues.. I have a 2011 Malibu so far no complaints my only concern is how the transmission shifts gears

My Malibu Maxx SS is a beautiful car but also a disaster. Mine shuts down while driving. Sometimes takes up to 30 minutes before it starts. Just a hateful & dangerous car.

My girl car was having the same problems we changed everything the dealer put in a computer and it still wont start I took it back to them and told them stop guessing and fix it..yall causing me money..so they found her problem it was a broken wire running from the front to the back to the fuel pump..so it was a broken wire on the fuel pump..I hope this help someone..
