8 years later and you just saved the day for me 😂 was about to pay $200+ just to tow my car to the mechanic not including labor, and you just saved me days of no car and a bunch of money. Cheers and thank you so much for sharing 🎉
Thank you so much for this video!! My friend just bought a 2012 Malibu within the last 30 days and every time she gets gas her car won't start. She stopped by my house after getting gas and of course the car wouldn't start. After trying for 2 hours to get it to start I came across your video and told her to pop the trunk. Pulled out the relay, popped it back in and the car started right up!! Thanks so much!!!
This is what mine was doing, cranking but no start, I watched this video and I replaced the fuel pump relay and the car started right up, be mindful to plug it in the correct way with the (30) prong at the top, I put mine in upside down and no start but I flipped it around and the car started right up, thanks for the video
This just saved be about $700-1000 bucks according to some of these posts. Changing a relay and wa-la! Problem gone! Thank you! And thank you for getting straight to the point. I listened to one video 10 intro before even starting on the car issue... Like wow...
I think the relay works momentary and the reason why stops working its because the motor on the fuel pump its going bad and draw to much amps ,you may want to finger touch that relay wile the car its running to see if the relay gets to hot and stops working ,great video by the way
The last week has been acting up bad for the wife. Every time I’d go to check it would start right up. Well today was the day I found your video and while she was stuck at the gas station ran over with another relay and worked like a charm thank you for saving us cheers
I'm having this same issue, randomly will stop starting and when it's running runs just fine. No check engine light or anything. Just replaced the fuel pump relay let's see if the problem persist. And thank you for taking the time to do this video, very informative, thank you!
... i just recently had this no crank problem turned out to be my ecm computer.. they had to replace it and put a new one its right by the fuse box next to the battery.. cost 500$ all together with labor but the part was about 150$ the labor was more expensive cause i got it done at a dealership. i hope this helps but dont give up cause these are really good cars if u keep up with them..
Thank you!!! I literally ran into the same issue and couldn't figure out the cause. I simply unplugged the relay and cleaned the terminals before putting it back in. I drive an 2011 Chevy Malibu.
Hi everyone I also wanted to let anyone who has a 2010 chevy malibu that decides not to start or crank all of a sudden. Although it took us 2 weeks after having starter and starter relay and solenoid tested as well as battery, at the end it u did up being just the starter fuse. So PLEASE ANYONE OUT THERE J. THE SAME SITUATION AS OURSELVES WITH LKMITED INCOME DUE TO THIS COVID19 PANDEMIC. CHECK GHAT FUSE BECAUSE WE ENDED UP AT GHE END AFTER EVERYFHING WE CHECKED WAS GHAT LITGLE STrter fuse. And PLEAZE DONT RELY ON JUST GOING TO AUTO PARTS STORE AND HAVE FHEM PUT GHEIR MACHINE ON IT. WE DID ANX NEVER SHIWED IT Ws just a fuse. Luckily for us my son in law came gk visit from out of state who is a very very good mechanic Nd brought his box that he uses at his shop to detail what exactly is wrong and not for him we would have spent between 4 and 800 dollars just for a 6 dollar fuse
thank you sir, you helped us a great deal. we changed the relay and it working geat. that is what happened to us. we took it to mechanic, charged us over $200 and still the issue. thanks again..;)
I have a 2011 Chevy Malibu lt. My car cranks but once I turn it off it doesn’t crank back up until a hour or so later until the car cools done. Could it be my relay switch also or something different.
I had this issue on a 2012 chevy malibu, I just solved my own and trying to help others. I checked air filter, and my fuses which were good. I then disconnected my fuel line at the rail into a bucket to make sure my pressure was good to the rail at least (this will not check your injectors, just ensure that fuel is getting to your injectors.) I replaced my crank sensor early which I should have waited till after I checked for spark, I broke the old one getting it out so the new one had to do. Then I removed my spark plug and checked for spark. which I was getting. I then cleaned my Mass air flow sensor which is also your IAC valve on the snorkel to your air filter. Then I read online that if your throttle body is bad that it sends incorrect timing signals to your injectors which could cause a no start issue because they are firing at incorrect times. I changed the throttle body because they had no rebuild kits and it was the problem. I then ran my engine and it was rich from trying to start it so many times. I recharged my battery and ran it for 10 minutes to flush the engine of too much fuel and then ran at 3k for 5 minutes to make sure the extra fuel was gone. I turned off the car and turned it on without starting it and depressed the pedal to the floor and hold for 30 seconds and then released a few times listening to make sure the valve was working in the throttle body. Let it sit for 1 hr then retried and we are gold my friends. hope this helps you diagnose your own problems. I want to let you know that if you feather your throttle and your car almost starts or starts this could definitely be your issue.
I have a question my 2009 Malibu will start and then die but it still cranks after dieing. What is that? And now the motor is acting really wierd I need help
Having same issue car worked just fine last night but when I tried to start it nothing at all . Idk where to start , how could it just shut off of it was just working just fine . Lights everything comes on in car
on my 2010 Malibu code p1174 came up but then I took it to the garage then he said it's probably an ignition problem, he took my battery out and did sometest on it and it runs now but I doubt it will stay running I'm about to just start riding a bike I've spent more money fixing that car then what I still owe on it :(
I have 2 - 2012 Malibu 2.4 and had the same problem. Bad rear fuse box / bad wire to fuel pump.. Fried brown wire in back of fuse box. When it didn't start you can tap on the fuse box and it makes contact and then runs. Replace fuse box(cheap) and check brown wire from fuel pump..
Mines 2009 lt v.6 malibu and it also dont want to start makes a very small noise but when i let it rest for a while it starts again you think this might be the problem?
Yes, it might be the relay or the fuse box all together. The issue you described is a similar issue to what my vehicle would do. Mine would start up after letting it rest for a while.
My 2011 Malibu starts but dies immediately. I have had the fuel pump changed about a year ago. Today it stalled while driving. Mechanic has no clue as to what is happening. I get misfire codes but have had a tune up. There is plenty of fuel pressure reaching the rail. I need any help that I can get.
My son was given a 2007 Chevy Malibu that cranks but doesn’t start. I swapped out the relays in the trunk , went to start and heard a pop from the intake before the battery started dying . I also checked the ignition coils which all had spark. Also previously sprayed starting fluid in intake and only heard a pop sound . Any ideas ? Thanks
Is it possible that the fuel pump mightve burnt out while i was trying to prime new ignition or I'd have to get it programmed at the dealership. Can I start my ignition still by hotwiring
i actually have a 2008 malibu im not sure what my problem is. The car actually comes on radio works headlights work but when i turn the switch to crank it, it doesn't make any noise. Any suggestions?
Hi, I have a 2012 chevorlet Malibu. Through out the day the car would crank and drive as if nothing was wrong, but when I stopped at a gas station and turn my car off, after I pumped my gas I went to crank the car but It would only make a clicking noise. I eventually ran into a guy he was a tree shade mechanic, he had no tools or anything, he got in the drivers seat and turn the key a couple of times and it did the same thing to him. So he got under the car and tapped the started it still did nothing, so he asked one of his friends if he had a flat head strew driver and he said no, out of no where this guy pulled out a pocket knife with a finger nail file on it and crank the car up by doing something to the starter lol but my question to you is, is it the starter or could it be something else? Cars now and days have a lot of electrical components I don't want to buy a part that I don't need and end up Having the same problem.
What he most likely did was he used his nail file as a wire and manually jumped your starter to the battery. When you have your cars ignition turned on, and you run power to the solenoid, it essentially works the same as you turning the key to the start position. Now if that's what he did, then you will need to replace the wires that go to the starter. The wires are probably corroded and most likely the starter isn't getting enough voltage. It could also be your ignition switch, which is causing less voltage to pass to the starter. I will be making a video on how starters work soon so please subscribe to get the update and learn how the starter works.
I have exactly the same problem a 2008 Malibu wont crank wont start no noise made when I try and the battery and powers on. This problem is all of a sudden. I'm hoping it's just a start relay fuse bad.
Good day, I had someone check the car. No spark or power is coming to the ignition coils. Also the fuse box was checked in the back true and one of the fuse was burnt out. In addition to that only one of the positive circuits light up for the fuel pump relay. I know it's four points and I think two of them are suppose to be positive. What do you think about the problem with that information?
Mr. Belle I suggest changing the fuse box. The circuit of the fuse box was the problem for me aswell. Look in the comments below. I have laid out instructions on how to replace the fuse box.
I have the same problem on this car I just purchased, I sprayed starter fluid into the intake and it started for a second so I know it’s the fuel pump not getting power. I tried the trick with the wire on the regulator and I can hear the fuel pump engaging. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is there a video on the ignition part you mentioned?
hey i have yhe same issue with my 2012 Malibu, but after going through all the above, i diagnosed it to be the fuel pump relay wire. For now, i popped the fuel pump relay cover and inserted a metal clip in between the intermittent relay terminals. Works fine but remember to remove relay eveytime you park the vehicle for hours or it will deplete your battery. Dealership will b quick to sell u the entire haness for $502.00 when you only need one relay wire. They will refuse to give you the wiring diaram, and blame you for a GM screw up. See by crappy design, for some reason the fuel pump, over time, draws more power from te relay. In return burns up the relay, wire or both. That makes the computer stop sending signals to relay ffor safety reasons. This can cause a P0230 code. Long story short after trying everything, you might wanna try looking into the relay wiring diagram and wires, good luck on finding the diagram for free.
My malibu 2008 doesnt wanna start(no crank at all).. The battery is new, bought a new computer for it and new fusebox as well and nothing.. any help!? When i turn the key 3/4's of the way, all the lights turn on but when i turn it all the way, no crank
Chevy malibu 2010 don't star when weather is hot. I live in vegas if i don't starting since the morning and running it half day it won't star the whole day . any help in here
I have a 2010 Malibu. My car actually cranks and starts the motor but immediately dies after. the electronics and everything work. Just the motor stops. has anyone ran into this problem?
2006 here had a random no start had to jump it, then battery tests swung rapidly from good to bad each time never the same. Checked fuses and that 36 relay was burning hot!
I dont know if you read your comments but i need help, i have a 2008 chevy malibu ls and its just cranking and not starting, i used a code reader and ran the code and it says throttle body, would the throttle body being bad cause it too not start?, I’ve checked the fuel pump and it is sending gas, also the power locks do not work. If you could drop some knowledge on me I’d like appreciate so much, thanks.
It might need a new starter but it could be that the wires going to the starter are bad and need replacement. I will be making a video soon on diagnosing starter problems.
Thx you everybody it was my sensors yesterday for the air and oil car thinks it's getting stolen then this morning wasn't getting fuel u can check the nipple unplugged the relay back in started right up
i have a 09 chevy malibu hybrid with only 1 code u0073 control module communication bus off. only experiencing three problems first car will sometimes not start but sometimes it will once i turn the key for the third time. 2nd half om my instrument neddle lights wont illuminate .but will sometimes its like strobe lights 24/7the same with my radio lights they light low then high. i had to replace front right blinker light and rear stop light both went out at the same time. and third i smell some sort of plastic burning this one time but might been from the outside not sure. where to start Hep?
If the smell is like plastic, you might want to check the fuse box and thoroughly look through all the fuses and wires attached to the box. Look for any signs of melting of wire insulation or fuses. The dimming of your dash lights and burnt out exterior lights also point to a wiring problem. There is a fuse box under the hood and also in the trunk. Check both. Also check the wiring underneath the steering wheel. Good luck and please share your findings.
My car will start and die but it is cranking after it dies what can it be? After I shut it off it is still cranking. Never happened before and now the motor is making wired noise help
Any advise... I have a 20012 chevy malibu and about 2 weeks ago I had my exhaust manifold replaced because it had cracked. So a couple of days ago my car would randomly idle roughly after starting it. The car would shake and it sounded like it was gasping for either air or gas.. In not sure. After about ten minutes I could start the car again and it would run perfectly. Yesturday after running fine in the morning I went to start it and it wouldn't start. Any ideas
Franquisha Kemp I would recommend trying the method I used in this video. It seems like you have the same issue I had. I eventually changed the entire fuse box in the trunk. It's very easy to change and I got a new fuse box from the junk yard for around $20 bucks.
I LOVE YOU MAAN!!! Not really, cause I'm not gay haha. But you are the be best. you really helped me and fast. I'm actually a mechanic but first time I came across this type of car with this problem. I pretty much checked under hood fuses and fuel pressure. then checked TH-cam 12 Malibu no fuel pressure and found your video. then thanks to you I found the fuse and relays in the trunk. swapped the relay you pointed out with a used relay from my spare parts. And boom. It fired rite up!! the new relay will be in later today and I'm done. Thank you big time. if you were here and showed me that, I'd have to throw you a $20.
I'm glad to hear that Dave! Also, if the problem continues then change the entire fuse box. I had to do that eventually and never had a problem after that. Cheers!
Engineer Shah did you change out the box yourself? Your first solution worked great for awhile. I swapped out the relay. But it's been happening again recently, so I think I should replace the whole fuse box.
i have this issue w my 2008 chevy malibu.. just had fuel pump replaced.. but the guy didn't bleed/prime the line I guess.. my car is cranking sorta but not starting..
I am having issues with my 2011 malibu. I went to GM and bought a replacement fuel pump relay and it would work for a few days but then it would continue to randomly not start. I go to the trunk and remove and insert the relay back in and the car will start up just fine.... for awhile. Then it comes back up a few hours later. Anyone know how to fix this issue? It’s not the relay, I know that for sure, but I’m thinking it’s the box itself? Anyone else run into this issue?
alfredo diaz I actually replaced the box at the dealer and one of the cords was shorting out. So I replaced the box and it’s been good for the month now!
Deysy Avelino Use your car battery. Take two wires and hook them to the positive and negative terminals of the battery, after which you would connect the other side of the wires to 85 and 86.
Just bought a 2011 chevy Malibu ran fine the all of a sudden won't crank. Changed out battery and still won't crank makes a kinda roaring noise after trying to start. Could it be the fuel pump?
Lierally going through the same thing with my 2012 Chevy Malibu. I paid almost $800 to get the fuel pump fixed and the same thing is happening. Changed the water pump too just because. Someone else mentioned it could be the relay in the fuse box, and now my dad sent me this video link so I'm starting to think it could be it. Its been out of commission for over 6 months(still making payments towards this) now but if this could solve my problem, I won't have to purchase a new car! I'll let you know how it goes!
Did you figure it out? i have done the same things and have also replaced the relay and still have the same issue. Please help!!! I've been dealing with this since October and still making payments. :(
Good evening. I need help. My car is not starting. I just changed the battery soon before the problem starts. A couple of days ago I was able to start the car, by just insisting on turned it on. Just randomly starts. But right now I can't do it. I Don't think the problem is the battery because everything else is working properly. Before I change the battery i had the idea that the car car was taking a little bit longer to start, but when I change the battery the problem was still there. Please help because we're in holidays and nobody is working. I have to solve it myself.
Good day, I was wondering if you could help me. I have a 2011 Chevy Malibu. And my car won't start either. I chsnged the spark plugs and the engine coils same to be fine. In addition to that I check to see if fuel was coming to the engine. I even use two car scanners to see if I could get a fault code. All two of the scanner couldn't get a code even though the check engine light was on. The scanners was only able to read my VIN number. What do you think the problem could be? Any assistance that you could provide would be grately appreciated?
Engineer Shah I just tried switching the fuel pump relay with the horn relay. It still didn't start. While it was switched. I tried to blow the horn but it didn't work. Any ideas? I'll switch it back.
Mr. Belle does your car crank at all? And you might want to get someone to listen closely to the area near the fuel tank as you turn the key to the "on" position. They should hear a low humming noise coming from the fuel pump. If they don't hear this noise, it means your fuel pump isn't turning on.
Engineer Shah thanks for the assistance. I will have someone look at it for me and I will mention what you said previously to them. I was attempting to work on it on my own. But I'll have someone take a look at it for me and I will follow up with you. Thanks again.
Mine is not the relay, starts fine for a few days and then it cranks forever and no start, then a few days of sitting and it starts again for a few days..... I've been chasing it in circles for 8 weeks and it just did it again
My sons 2012 Malibu just started dying a few minutes after starting and won't restart, engine won't turn over at all, let sit overnight, started right up, ran a few minutes, died again, again wouldn't even crank, or click. Battery 12.7, charging at 14.4 volts, checked before it died again. Obviously that wouldn't be the fuel pump or relay, in this case.
Jeremy Greer Sometimes the connectors inside the fuse box which hold the relay pins are loose which might cause a similar problem to what you are describing since the load increases once the car starts to move. Try to place a thin metal inside the relay pin holes and then plug the relay back in. You might have to give it a little extra force when your plugging it back in. The best course to take would be to replace the whole fuse box with a new one.
My car turns over and then cuts immediately back off. After trying to turn it over three times- the battery died. I took the battery to get recharged and it’s back up to 100%. What could be wrong?? I had my car rewired from the starter to the fuse box and under the fuse box back in March and again in April. 🥴
Hi sir I have a Chevy Malibu 2011 so when I turn the key sometimes it start and sometimes it doesn't start so I keep trying until it start mechanic changed the starter but the problem didn't fix another mechanic changed the switch and the problem didn't fix after spending a lot of money I still have the problem please someone help me thank and God bless you.
Hola, tengo un carro Malibú LT 2011 que estarea pero no prende me dijeron que era el código p1682 y que posiblemente sea la computadora, la pregunta es, tengo que programar la computadora aún que sea usada?
I have a 2009 Chevy malibu keep reading this comments but don't know what to buy..when I put the key in all the ligths and radio come on but doesn't start or cranks any ideas.?
May be the same problem but I am not sure. I have a 2011 Chevy Malibu. Started fine this morning went to work 15 miles approx. shut off the engine and try to restart to straighten out in the parking spot. No start no tickin from battery only a year old silver grade not a bad battery. Lights and speedometer dashboard go out as if it is trying to turnover and nothing but one click. Try the jumper cables leave them on there thinking maybe bad alternator and not enough juice in battery to crank. Again nothing so I have the car towed to a mechanic down the street they run test on battery and electrical systems no issues. It fires up for them three times in a row and say nothing is wrong. Any ideas on diagnosis?
Michael Kelley it seems like your battery connections are loose. Open up the terminal connectors for both the positive and negative terminal and clean them up with sand paper. Reconnect them firmly making sure you have a solid connection. That should solve your problem.
Before I put the jumper cables on I had power the whole time headlights where on and dashboard as well and overhead light in the cab. I put cables on and positive and negatives seemed tight and secure nothing noticeably loose. However when I turned key to start vehicle power decreased and lights went out like it was trying to turnover but it wouldn't turnover. As soon as I released from starting position lights dash and everything came back immediately. I didn't hear any noise like spinning from starter or ticking from a battery. However I was not listening for fuel pump this should disengage and make a slight sound in the rear of the vehicle when turning the vehicle off. Could this still be the battery connection? Because the mechanic did not mention any loose connection when running test on battery or electrical system.
Yes. It can still be loose terminals. You mentioned that you hear just a click, the click you hear is one of the battery terminals disengaging as soon as you try to start the car. Keep in mind that when you are starting your car, lots of amps are drawn from the battery which requires a solid connection so even though you may think the terminals are tight but they are loose or corroded for the starter to turn. Best way to check is have someone else start the car and then watch the terminals of the battery. If you see a spark there when start is triggered, it will confirm the loose terminals. When testing the battery, it will show the battery as good since the battery tester doesn't draw any power. If you can upload a picture of your battery over here, it would be beneficial to moving forward with your diagnostics. If the terminals are tight, next thing to check would be the negative(ground) cable that is connected from the battery to the body of the car. Often times you don't have a solid ground connection which could also cause the issue you are describing. To assure that is not the issue you could run a booster cable wire from the negative terminal on your battery to somewhere on the car body that would make a good ground connection. Also, as far as the fuel pump is concerned, that can only be sorted out after you get your car to crank again. The fuel pump shouldn't effect the cranking of the vehicle. Only when your car cranks but doesn't start is when you should direct your attention towards the fuel pump. Let me know on your progress. All the best!
Thank you sir I greatly appreciate your time and explaining this out for me thoroughly. I will send a pic of the battery it isn't corroded at all it has the battery jelly on it. I put it on every time for longevity and the battery has a battery cover over it. However very well could be the wires they were replaced 2 years ago because of a massive amount of corrosion so very probable. Again thank you for your help definitely recommend you for sure.
Shah, I have this problem with a 2011 Saab 9-5 which is all GM electronics. It cranks but no start. initially I had a code P062B "internal control module fuel injector control performance" (no communications with fuel pump module either) tried a used module but that didn't work either. Also no sound from the fuel pump when key is on. Do you have any suggestions?
Norsa Motors Based on your code, it seems like the fuel pump isn't responding. There could be two possibilities: 1) There is no power to the fuel pump in which case the first place you should look is in the fuse box. Find the relay to the fuel pump and replace it. If that doesn't work, try locating your fuel pump and using a fuse tester, you can easily check if the fuel pump is getting power or not. I would recommend using a multi-meter instead of a fuse tester but I usually assume a fuse tester is a common tool many people carry and it is cheaper if you need to purchase one. With a fuse tester, you just want to make sure that if it does light up, it should be bright(that's where the multi-meter wins since it will tell you the exact voltage at the fuel pump power terminal which should be around the 12V DC mark). If it is dim, then that is an indicator that you don't have enough power coming to the fuel pump. If you do have enough power coming to the fuel pump then, 2) The fuel pump is bad and needs replacement. I hope that helps! All the best.
@@EngineerShah01 hi my car has been running fine i got out to clock in to work in now it want strat everything comes on it sound like it want to crank.would changeing the relays help me
this sounds like what I need to try been at shop 3 or 4 times new fuel pump fuel system flush all kinds of stuff and still doing same thing. it will cut off sometimes when driving like not getting any fuel and sometimes cranks but won't start tries to but won't

The definition for code U2124 is "Lost communications with Entertainment/Audio Control (TBD) System". It seems like you may have a security fault. Do you have any security lights on your dash? And does your radio work/audio system work?
Engineer Shah could this make the car crank but not start ? I did this trick with the relay and the car started. thank you very much 4 the instructional video
Yes it can. Essentially what happens is your vehicles computer system after reading a security fault will prevent the fuel pump relay from getting triggered. This means that the fuel pump won't have any power to turn it on, which will lead to your car cranking but not able to start.
Shawanna Nunnally if your car doesn't crank, first is to check your batteries charge. Next, I would recommend tapping the starter slowly for a minute or so and then trying to start the car again. If this doesn't solve it then check all fuses and relays. If you still can't crank the vehicle then you might have corroded wires going to the starter or it could be an issue with the ignition switch.
Hi - Thanks for the Video. I took out my relay (part number 13502752)but I do not remember which way it goes. is it a big problem if you put it in the wrong way/upside down? Anyone have a picture of the relay/fuse box?
I need your help bro. My 2012 chevy malibu lt It cranks but dont starts. It could be the fuel pump. I tried your tricks, my relays seem fine. I got my air filter, camshafts, brakes all replaced within the last year. I also have the non dipstick transmission. I need help. And thanks
It could be the fuel pump or the whole fuse box might need replacement. My first suggestion is to turn the ignition to the "ON" position and listen to the fuel pump humming noise. If you hear the humming noise, that confirms that your fuel pump is on and working. If you don't hear the humming noise, you could try replacing the entire fuse box... that's what I had to do eventually which was a permanent fix to my problem. If that doesn't work, then you will probably have to look at changing the fuel pump. Another cause could be a faulty ignition switch, but I wouldn't jump to that right away. All the best and keep us posted on your progress. Many other viewers could benefit from it. Thanks.
GOOB THA DON I'm not sure how much a new fuse box would cost. Luckily I was able to find mine at a local junk yard for around $30, so I would recommend checking out your local junk yard first.
Look into your spark plugs and also consider replacing the fuse box. I had to replace mine eventually. Also look through the comments below, I have responded to many other posts which could assist in your situation. All the best!
A relay is a essentially a type of switch, and unlike the switches in our houses which are manually operated by us, the relay is operated by a voltage which turns it on and off. The relay in this video is the fuel pump relay and a switch inside this relay is turned on as soon as the ignition is turned on. This switch will turn on the fuel pump which supplies fuel to the engine and it has to stay on until the car is shut off. The path the fuel pump uses to draw current is over the relay and the relay is powered to keep it on which in turn will cause the relay to heat up over time due to dissipation of power in the coils of the relay. I hope I answered your question.
If you tried to boost it with some cables and it didn't start, it must be a bad connection to the starter. You might want to change the wires that go to the starter or try tapping on the starter a few times before starting it. I will be making a video on the clicking noise soon.
I had a 2009 mailbu LT, my lights come on everything in the inside of the car but it want crank or start. dealership says it's the electronic control module but no diagnosis was found. Can somebody help me?
If your car doesn't crank, it could just be a bad starter. I would recommend tapping on your starter a little bit and seeing if that gets it moving. Also, it could be the ignition switch or ignition cylinder. I will be making a video soon on starters so subscribe to get the notifications.

Hey can anybody help me out ? I just got a 2001 Malibu was running fine untill I add fuel cleaner. Please I'm in need desperately stuck somewhere far ...
My 2010 2.4 Malibu (79k miles) has stalled out on three occasions, twice last winter, and then once again last week, every time when the temperature was in the 40's, but the engine was fully warmed up. All three times happened while the vehicle was being driven. After the engine stalled, when I would attempt to start it, it would run for two seconds and then stall. There were no codes stored. The car would not start and run until the battery was disconnected and reconnected. And then everything was normal. Because of that I am not convinced that this is a fuel pump circuit problem. Maybe some other input to the PCM is intermittently failing and causing fuel pump circuit to turn off? Has anybody else experienced this?
I’ve been having the same issue , I ended up getting a new rear fuze box from a pick and pull, and it’s been running smooth as of now. I may have a wiring issue though (which malibus are known to have )
I can't thank you enough for this video!!!! I was about to buy a fuel pump and it ended up being this relay. You are the man! 🇺🇸😎
Literally have the same issue after I get gas. Good to know I’m not alone, I ended up unplugging it n putting it back, n it’s good now
This seems to be my issue as well. I have a 2011 Malibu. A lot of times after filling up my car runs poorly, or has problems starting.
Like wow...
Canna HoldingItDown C. Your welcome! Glad to hear your back on the road!
Bad wire to fuel pump
Where did you buy your relay from
I think the relay works momentary and the reason why stops working its because the motor on the fuel pump its going bad and draw to much amps ,you may want to finger touch that relay wile the car its running to see if the relay gets to hot and stops working ,great video by the way
The last week has been acting up bad for the wife. Every time I’d go to check it would start right up. Well today was the day I found your video and while she was stuck at the gas station ran over with another relay and worked like a charm thank you for saving us cheers
Can' t thank you enough! Switched it with the horn relay, and the car started right up! You probably just saved me several hundred bucks!
Hey Caleb Lawson, quick ? Which one is the horn relay?
Worked just taking out the relay and plugging it back in man u saved me. I was gonna go get a new fuel pump tomorrow
I'm having this same issue, randomly will stop starting and when it's running runs just fine. No check engine light or anything. Just replaced the fuel pump relay let's see if the problem persist.
And thank you for taking the time to do this video, very informative, thank you!
Did it persist?
Had car in, no start cranked fine. Swapped relay and fired right up. Thanks for the time saver.
Glad to hear my video helped! Cheers!
... i just recently had this no crank problem turned out to be my ecm computer.. they had to replace it and put a new one its right by the fuse box next to the battery.. cost 500$ all together with labor but the part was about 150$ the labor was more expensive cause i got it done at a dealership. i hope this helps but dont give up cause these are really good cars if u keep up with them..
j daniels what did yours do
j daniels did you have full insurance coverage?
Wait until you have to change a headlight
Thank you!!! I literally ran into the same issue and couldn't figure out the cause. I simply unplugged the relay and cleaned the terminals before putting it back in. I drive an 2011 Chevy Malibu.
Thats great to hear! Glad my video helped.
I Got The Same Car & Mines Doin The Same Thing . I’m Finna Try This
Hi everyone I also wanted to let anyone who has a 2010 chevy malibu that decides not to start or crank all of a sudden. Although it took us 2 weeks after having starter and starter relay and solenoid tested as well as battery, at the end it u did up being just the starter fuse. So PLEASE ANYONE OUT THERE J. Dawn, thank you for sharing your experience. Glad to hear you got your car running again. Cheers!
Going to buy it right now. Hopefully it works. If not it's ok, it's the car!!
did it work?
My car is having the same startup problem. I'm going to check everything you mentioned
Brandi Bogrett-Cantley let me know how it goes. Good luck!
Engineer Shah my car is cutting up now . It’s acts as though it wants to crank but it doesn’t .
thank you sir, you helped us a great deal. we changed the relay and it working geat. that is what happened to us. we took it to mechanic, charged us over $200 and still the issue. thanks again..;)
Your welcome! Glad I can help.
Engineer Shah I’m havin the same problem I placed starter battery alternator some saying it’s the ground wiring what is it
Thanks man great video, got it to crank right up after changing relay!✊🏾
Thank you for sharing this great information which I'm sure many can benefit from! Cheers!
I have a question my 2009 Malibu will start and then die but it still cranks after dieing. What is that? And now the motor is acting really wierd I need help
@@marissalanting4552 i have the same issue and it turnes out the fuel pump replacement.
Thanks for posting!! Really helped and got my wife's car started again

Wiggled the relay..started right up! Thanks a lot!
Having same issue car worked just fine last night but when I tried to start it nothing at all . Idk where to start , how could it just shut off of it was just working just fine . Lights everything comes on in car
G Hayes starter wire try it
Fenna try, pray it works
on my 2010 Malibu code p1174 came up but then I took it to the garage then he said it's probably an ignition problem, he took my battery out and did sometest on it and it runs now but I doubt it will stay running I'm about to just start riding a bike I've spent more money fixing that car then what I still owe on it :(
Damn bro same here.
Can you share a link to fuse box part? Does it come with wiring and fuses?
Cost me $25 to fix.. thanks!
Mines 2009 lt v.6 malibu and it also dont want to start makes a very small noise but when i let it rest for a while it starts again you think this might be the problem?
Yes, it might be the relay or the fuse box all together. The issue you described is a similar issue to what my vehicle would do. Mine would start up after letting it rest for a while.
how much would i cost please help me
Just purchased a new starter and got put in just to find this video later wow
me buying a fuel pump thinking it was that and now idk
My 2011 Malibu starts but dies immediately. I have had the fuel pump changed about a year ago. Today it stalled while driving. Mechanic has no clue as to what is happening. I get misfire codes but have had a tune up. There is plenty of fuel pressure reaching the rail. I need any help that I can get.
Did you figure it out? Was it the idle air control valve?
My son was given a 2007 Chevy Malibu that cranks but doesn’t start.
I swapped out the relays in the trunk , went to start and heard a pop from the intake before the battery started dying .
I also checked the ignition coils which all had spark.
Also previously sprayed starting fluid in intake and only heard a pop sound .
Any ideas ? Thanks
Do you have a part number for the fuel relay?
2021 just did this and it worked thanks man
Did u only replaced the relay bro??
Is it possible that the fuel pump mightve burnt out while i was trying to prime new ignition or I'd have to get it programmed at the dealership. Can I start my ignition still by hotwiring
I had this same issue with my 2011 Malibu but it wasn't the relays or fuses it was the wire plugs in the back of the fuse box.
Fat Tony Slim I’m confused my car doing the same some saying wiring some saying ignition anybody knows the solution I done spiny thousands
What wire plugs plz help
i actually have a 2008 malibu im not sure what my problem is. The car actually comes on radio works headlights work but when i turn the switch to crank it, it doesn't make any noise. Any suggestions?
You could have a bad starter or the connections to the starter could be bad.
TREE TOP ROOSTER I have the same problem
I come across this issue at cold start in the morning
Good day, I had someone check the car. No spark or power is coming to the ignition coils. Also the fuse box was checked in the back true and one of the fuse was burnt out. In addition to that only one of the positive circuits light up for the fuel pump relay. I know it's four points and I think two of them are suppose to be positive. What do you think about the problem with that information?
Mr. Belle I suggest changing the fuse box. The circuit of the fuse box was the problem for me aswell. Look in the comments below. I have laid out instructions on how to replace the fuse box.
Worked for my Malibu thank you sir
Very pleased to hear that Christopher! Cheers!
Engineer shah nice to meet u my name is Ahmed i haved that problem my car so thank u for u help

Marissa Lanting What’s going on with your car?
So I changed the relay and it works but it only turns on whenever it wants too, idk what to do , could it be the fuel pump ?
What if you the shop changed the relay for the fuel pump and a week later, the same thing… now they are telling me it might be the fuel pump
hey i have yhe same issue with my 2012 Malibu, but after going through all the above, i diagnosed it to be the fuel pump relay wire.
Can you show us how for those like myself that knows nothing about cars
My malibu 2008 doesnt wanna start(no crank at all)..
The battery is new, bought a new computer for it and new fusebox as well and nothing.. any help!? When i turn the key 3/4's of the way, all the lights turn on but when i turn it all the way, no crank

Where did you buy your relay from
Hi, I Have 2012 Malibu and I initially had engine pwr reduced which i have fixed but now I'm experiencing no crank no start and setting U0100 code
I have a 2013 Malibu that wont start i have power everwhere as i should but 1-4 coil failure no start or crank any ideas
Hi I have a 08 malibu and it wont start nor crank light radio everything works could this be it new start battery and battery cables
Jessica Wilks Do you hear a clicking noise when you try to start it?
Got the same issue , but yes there's a clicking noise . Already replaced the starter but didn't fixed.
Engineer Shah got the same issue, and yes there's a clicking noise, i replaced the starter but didnt work
It might need a new starter but it could be that the wires going to the starter are bad and need replacement. I will be making a video soon on diagnosing starter problems.
Engineer Shah thanks.
Thanks so much! It actually worked. After being parked for days.
My car is having a whinning noise. We changed the starter(was bad) but more of a grinding noise and still will not start
Engineer Shah thank you I'll give it a try
Engineer Shah so if I were to do it myself I would just switch the horn relay with it
Franquisha Kemp yes. That's correct. For now just to test it you can switch it with the horn relay
Engineer Shah so it started right up so I'm off to the auto store to buy another relay.. Thank you so much.

I have the same issue did you ever figure it out?
alfredo diaz I actually replaced the box at the dealer and one of the cords was shorting out. So I replaced the box and it’s been good for the month now!
If I take the start fuse and the Run/crank fuses out will the car even start?
hi im having the same problems with my Chevy Malibu I was wondering which battery am I suppose to plug in 85 and 86
Deysy Avelino Use your car battery. Take two wires and hook them to the positive and negative terminals of the battery, after which you would connect the other side of the wires to 85 and 86.
Deysy Avelino You should hear the relay click as soon as you touch the wires with 85 and 86.
Engineer Shah is there a proper way to install the fuel pump relay or it doesnt matter just plug it in?
Just bought a 2011 chevy Malibu ran fine the all of a sudden won't crank. Changed out battery and still won't crank makes a kinda roaring noise after trying to start. Could it be the fuel pump?
It could be a lose connection to the starter. Does the engine turn when you try to start it up?
Lierally going through the same thing with my 2012 Chevy Malibu. I paid almost $800 to get the fuel pump fixed and the same thing is happening. Changed the water pump too just because. Someone else mentioned it could be the relay in the fuse box, and now my dad sent me this video link so I'm starting to think it could be it. Its been out of commission for over 6 months(still making payments towards this) now but if this could solve my problem, I won't have to purchase a new car! I'll let you know how it goes!
Briggette D. How'd it work out?
Did you figure it out? i have done the same things and have also replaced the relay and still have the same issue. Please help!!! I've been dealing with this since October and still making payments. :(
where are the four bolts holding the fuse box in?
Mr. Belle have you tried to use the method I have shown in my video?
Engineer Shah No, I haven't switch the horn relay with fuel pump relay. I will give it a try and see if it works.
Thanks for doing the video
my sister replaced her relay and it stays crunk but cuts off when it goes into gear. any suggestions
So basicly with the symptoms i described seems like it might need pushing in more? and worst case or best safe. replace the fuse panel?
Yes, that's correct.
hi there i have 2011 malibu ltz ...but can,t start it by key remot control can u tellme some advice about it thanks
dlshad ic Does it have a factory remote starter in it?
Got a 07 Malibu cranks good but no spark has fuel will start if sprayed with starting fluid but then dyes out now wont start at all
If it has no spark, it wouldn't start with starting fluid!
My car turns over and then cuts immediately back off. After trying to turn it over three times- the battery died. I took the battery to get recharged and it’s back up to 100%. What could be wrong?? I had my car rewired from the starter to the fuse box and under the fuse box back in March and again in April. 🥴

I have a 2009 Chevy malibu keep reading this comments but don't know what to buy..when I put the key in all the ligths and radio come on but doesn't start or cranks any ideas.?
Sounds like anti theft needed reset. Did you ever figure it out?
Oh sorry almost forgot. No crank no start issue. Thank you for all your help.
There could be two possibilities:
1) There is no power to the fuel pump in which case the first place you should look is in the fuse box.
If you do have enough power coming to the fuel pump then,
2) The fuel pump is bad and needs replacement.
I hope that helps! All the best.
On my 2015 Malibu it won't sometimes I have to sit there a while before it decide to crank up
I have a 2010 chevy malibu ltz it wont guh in reverse i put it in drive i get the same thing it wont move at all soo can you tell me whats wrong
Errol Bailey When you shift the gear into parking, do you hear it click into gear or is the gear loose?
Sorry I mean "when you shift it into drive/reverse..."
Engineer Shah hey my 12 Malibu showing service ESC traction control power steering . what may I do to fix the problem .
You may want to get an OBD II scanner and scan your car to see what the issue is. It might be a sensor fault or it could be just low steering fluid.
Bradley Snyder change your gas pedal fuse. should work.I was told I need a gas pedal assembly I changed the fuse and no problem ever again
Bradley Snyder fuse is located in fuse box on passenger side
Bradley Snyder hey i have yhe same issue with my 2012 Malibu, but after going through all the above, i diagnosed it to be the fuel pump relay wire.
Bradley Snyder this is exactly what’s wrong with my car today . I’m still trying to find the issue .
i have the same problem in a 2012 chevy malibu I read a code U2124 and car won't start any suggestions?
The definition for code U2124 is "Lost communications with Entertainment/Audio Control (TBD) System". It seems like you may have a security fault. Do you have any security lights on your dash? And does your radio work/audio system work?
Engineer Shah could this make the car crank but not start ? I did this trick with the relay and the car started. thank you very much 4 the instructional video
Engineer Shah it's was acually code 2142 loss comunicación with yaw rate sensor (yrs)
Yes it can. Essentially what happens is your vehicles computer system after reading a security fault will prevent the fuel pump relay from getting triggered. This means that the fuel pump won't have any power to turn it on, which will lead to your car cranking but not able to start.
Engineer Shah so how would I fix this problem?
I'm having a code of po171 meaning running lean I need help I change o2 sensor looked for vacuum leaks can't find anything any help

I have a 2010 malibu. turning over but want stay Crunk. any idea what this may be
Shawanna Nunnally if your car doesn't crank, first is to check your batteries charge. Next, I would recommend tapping the starter slowly for a minute or so and then trying to start the car again. If this doesn't solve it then check all fuses and relays. If you still can't crank the vehicle then you might have corroded wires going to the starter or it could be an issue with the ignition switch.
+Engineer Shah it's turning over crank but cuts right back off. bought a battery replaced fuel pump
Shawanna Nunnally how many times does the engine turn over when your trying to start it?
+Engineer Shah it crank up but want stay crunk
+Engineer Shah replaced fuel relay fuse.
Hi - Thanks for the Video. I took out my relay (part number 13502752)but I do not remember which way it goes. is it a big problem if you put it in the wrong way/upside down? Anyone have a picture of the relay/fuse box?
Worked! Thanks!
I need your help bro. My 2012 chevy malibu lt
It cranks but dont starts.
Thanks.
Engineer Shah how much for the fuse box replacement?
GOOB THA DON I'm not sure how much a new fuse box would cost. Luckily I was able to find mine at a local junk yard for around $30, so I would recommend checking out your local junk yard first.
Engineer Shah damn.. same problem also I have the non dipstick transmission and could it be that?
Look into your spark plugs and also consider replacing the fuse box. I had to replace mine eventually. Also look through the comments below, I have responded to many other posts which could assist in your situation. All the best!
What's the reason for the relay on the fuse box to get hot? I'm having the same problem
I have a 2012 chevy Malibu my headlights come on and radio but when i turn the key it does this clicking noise and doesn't turn on 😞 any help?
I tried to pass cables but it didnt work. Tried to put starter fluid didn't work either 😒. I had to pull it home.
If you tried to boost it with some cables and it didn't start, it must be a bad connection to the starter. You might want to change the wires that go to the starter or try tapping on the starter a few times before starting it. I will be making a video on the clicking noise soon.
It could also just be a bad starter aswell.
Engineer Shah thank you i will try that and see how it works.
I think it's the fuse box but here's the thing brother shah, once it cuts off and tweak the fuse box it works. could it be a stability issue?
I'm having same problem, did you figure it out ?
Sounds like a bad connection at the fuse box
I had a 2009 mailbu LT, my lights come on everything in the inside of the car but it want crank or start. dealership says it's the electronic control module but no diagnosis was found. Can somebody help me?
typo* have
Shamia Graham try the method I have shown in this video.
ok it's at the dealership now, they want to charge me 798 to fix it, but if it doesn't work. what could be the problem?

Ik it’s been a year since you posted this, but were you able to fix it ?
I’ve been having the same issue , I ended up getting a new rear fuze box from a pick and pull, and it’s been running smooth as of now. I may have a wiring issue though (which malibus are known to have )
