When I got It, I'm a fucking idiot btw, I basically didn't take care of her well and around 200,000k miles I started having problems. I remind you all these issues happened after I beat the ever living fuck outta her without proper maintenance so I'm pretty convinced if I was up on everything half these problems wouldn't have happened or happened a lot later. I can't recommend these cars enough they're solid just take care of them, be up to date on fluid changes and your golden I fully expect these to last at least 300k miles. Also I'll mention I have electronic issues like doors not locking automatically, driver's window not going down, and some of my control arms need to be replaced. The electrical issues are annoying but don't affect the drive so if you don't care it's not a deal breaker and the control arms are expected to go out on a high mileage car like that. Also my tranny was serviced recently at 210,000k miles and they told me it was solid so maybe I'm just lucky.
Just bought an 2010 LTZ with only 97K miles. Garage kept. One owner. Almost mint condition. Got it for the amazing price of 5500. So just doing some research on it now
Im currently working towards purchasing a 08-12 chevy malibu. So im looking to see everything that needs attention on these specific cars, ill use your channel 👍
Love my Malibu only issue I’ve had is it “Kicks” when I’m slowing down and suddenly need to speed up like when u stopping at a light and it turns green …. Anyone else ?
My 2011 malibu was ok for two years. Some minor issues but not bad. Monday I backed out of my driveway and then it would not engage into fwd. I only have reverse now. I have a new auto trans fluid pipe delivered and will be checking if that's the issue.
@@DL-bx9wc Sadly, I had to put a new tranny in it. Theres a company out of Texas that has rebuilds of "factory quality". My local mechanic installed it. Cost of it and the labor was just under 5,000. it sucked, but with the price of new or gently used cars it is still a cheaper option. It has been 10 months now on the new tranny and I have had no further issues. Warning though... as with anything... when you swap parts it will never feel/drive exactly the same I overall blame the poor design from chevy for this tranny. It has no dipstick. Its a pain to check the fluid. It showed zero signs of a leak. And just a few ounces of fluid loss can kill it.
I have a 03 Pontiac with the 3.4 engine but top swapped with 3.5 intake manifold. With 210300 miles on it . 1 headgasket job . Broken 5 trannymounts Broken 5 axels . 3 rack n pinions🤣🤣 gm cars are good but you just gotta maintain it 100%
Please explain difference between 1. Transmission flush And 2.Drain/field? Current owner of 2010/ 2.4 engine (purchased at dealership with 30,000)/ current mileage 230,000. Problems: 1. Third brake light. 2. Control arm/high mileage 3. VVT solenoid (replaced both/exhaust solenoid and intake solenoid)at least it wasn't the timing chain. 4. Transmission negligence (guilty as charge) Have never replaced transmission fluid. Current code showing, transmission solenoid. Transmission won't accelerate fast when I'm in complete stop nor when I'm trying to over pass another vehicle. Any suggestions? Regarding engines, have mostly heard the opposite that 6cylinder have more problems than 4 cylinder.
Thanks. Didn't understand at first. Will do a drain and fill for maintenance. Hopefully, the Malibu will give me from one to five more years because new car and truck prices are ridiculously high.
2011 V6 LTZ had it for 8 years no problems just replaced the radiator fan because road construction left some thick gray mud on the road and got all in my fans.
Bro istg I towed the car off the express got homeeej this video and it literally worked ! That’s crazy asl glad I only spent 125 on a tow instead of buying parts

I have a 2012 Chevy Malibu LT and I’m having electrical issues well I think no icon indicator lit up in dashboard but maybe it’s my keyless remote every time I use it the car locks unlock constantly and and one min I can open my trunk from the inside button then it won’t open then the security system keeps beeping the horn not sure what to do I brought this car used with 54,000 miles one owner excellent condition beside that
I bought the 2009 2.4L with 38k miles, trans went at 42k. The torque converter failed at 80k power steering issue. Timing chain broke at 89k. I loved the Malibu but those were 3 major issues before 100k.
I have a 2012 chevy malibu and I have had it awhile and I really haven't had any serious problems until now my engine light would blink when I start my car but go off, then when I would start it later that day it wouldn't come on at all. The problem I am now having is my engine light is on and has been for 3 weeks ( not blinking at all) but I notice when I got my oil change the light wasn't even on at all, well I had the oil change on a Saturday and within that Tuesday it came on and has been , I told it to my shop I really depend on and has been good to me , he said the C valve was disconnected so they plug it back and the light went off but within the next day back on, we change my gas cap because it was loose and the light was off when I started the car but the next day coming home it pop back on bright orange ( no blinking) I will need to take it back and they want me too and let them keep it over night and see I have never had a problem like this with my chevy that couldn't be fix. I have read alot of things and it says it may be the catalyzer converter, or exhaust system or emissions problem but they put the machine on it that show what it may be but it's not showing anything, but he did say it may need to be check when I haven't driven the car. This is my only car it has been good to me and I take care of it do you have a ideal what it may be . Beside the oil info is there any work you do on the car that you need to reset the computer. Help because these mechanics are good and I don't want to go to the dealership at all, HELP. I'm still driving it but it worries me and today when I got off of work it act like it didn't want to start, but in the morning it start just like normal no problem at all.
Hey there it sounds like you’re having a problem with your evap system.you may have a bad purge valve, that will make your car hesitate sometimes but I will need to know the check engine light code to tell you more
@@AlexTheCarDoctor I believe it was something to do with evap system , what is a purge valve and where is it located and is it hard to replace and what would it may cost to do but the code I don't remember those numbers but I would ask them to check it , I appreciate you replying back I just don't want to spend alot of money I don't know what was change on the car before me but I know things over time will need replacing.
@@Change2be1 the purge valve lets gas fumes in your engine,on your vehicle I do believe it is located behind the top of your engine and it is very easy to change and should not exceed price of 200$ parts and labor

well I call my mechanic and let him know that the gas cap didn't do any good because the light was back on the next day, so I did ask them could they check the purge value and I will gladly pay for it because I want to see if that is the problem, but I guess he got offended because I was subjecting what I thought it may be and I haven't heard back . But I look at it like this I feel after what they had already done was costing me because the light was still on, well the light is still on I still drive it and pray and hopefully I can find someone to figure it out for me, but like I said its strange that 3 days after getting my oil change it popped on and they did reset my oil info like they always did, confused but the Lord will send someone to help me with this, thank you alot for you info.
I have a 2012 Chevy Malibu Lt and it has the 2.4 and I have the problem with the car when I start it up 3 times and then I go out to start it again and it won't start until its completely cool and I was told that it could be the fuse box under the hood because of the gold ribbons in the fuse box crack on the cooling fans and I hooked up 2 toggle switches to the fans
I currently own 2009 Chevy Malibu 2.4 and my power to my stereo went out but also my dash lights keep going in and out particularly the battery , ABS and the revege gauge
Sounds like you’re having multiple issues my guess is bad instrument cluster that’s the part you look at to tell how fast you’re going and all the lights like ABS,battery light etc. you also may have a blown radio fuse. my suggestion is to get it diagnose by a good electrical problem solver in the automotive field
My 2012 just started driving as if it’s in manual staying on 4/5 rpm. At times . Should i change the fluid? I feel like nobody never did it before i got this car and im at 201010k

Hey! I know I’m pretty late on this video but I see you give out great advice in the comments! I’m looking at getting an 2013 Malibu with 139,000 . Do you think it’s worth it? Or what is a good negotiable price?
Hey Alex I was wondering should I buy the 2007 malibu ls (116,000 miles) (1,500$) or 2002 mercury sable gs (122,000 miles) (995$) really just looking for the more reliable car that i won't have to bring into the shop every other week
I have an 09 Malibu with the 4. Just turned 199,000 with just oil changes engine still run perfect and trans still shifts great. This car runs great. Gas mileage is not the best but has never broke down once in 10 years.
Got a 09, 4 cyl in it. Has a large and small evap code p0455. Sometimes when I hit the gas it falls on its face, other times it’s a little rocket. Only idles a bit rough on cold start aside from that I don’t see obvious symptoms. Not 100% certain because I haven’t had a chance to try and repeat it but tonight I believe I heard a buzz sound under the back floor for a few seconds on cold start but idle for ten minutes after and it didn’t do it again that I could hear. Any thoughts? I’m at a loss. A scanner showed my maf at 0.39 which I thought was supposed to be 4 or 6g on a normal working one. Aside from that nothing stands out to me and says “this is the problem” any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏
@mintmonte if I knew more about vehicles I would tell you but unfortunately I do not my suggestion would be find a mechanic not a shop they can be expensive with high rates some people can't afford look for a handy mechanic who works on cars in there spare time it'd probably be a cheaper route with shop fees being 100 a hour for there labor rate due to inflation. Imagine 1000 dollars a day for that rate with 10 hour shifts adding up to 20,000 a month I'd say theses shops are making bank and poor people just might be able to afford there 300 dollars for there 3 hours of work not everyone is successful in life.. how you get your issues resolved take care
Hi, I have a 2010 chevy Malibu. It got where it wouldn't go over 20 mph, if you tried to force it to go faster, it would start hunching and die. We started changing sensors, but never chose one that solved the problem. My poor car has been sitting since March 2021 😢

My daughter bought a 2012 Malibu. The rear defrost doesn't work. You push the rear defrost button on dash and yellow light comes on but rear defrost doesn't work. I have checked the wire harness plug inside front passenger door behind trim. I didn't see any wires burnt like the purple wire going into that plug and black wire coming out going to rear defrost. Is there something else I need to check ? is there a fuse some where in rear of car for the rear defrost ? Thanks !

I'll come back and leave a comment on what happens thank you for this video

Hello unfortunately something like that I will need to see in person, but if I were to guess sounds like you have a loose connection.have the mechanic who did the work double check his work or get someone else to check.where are you from
Very good review! Thanks for the "insider" information. May I ask a question? My neighbor has a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu for sale. It has 112,000 miles and she is asking $2300.00. I'm not sure on the engine size. Does this sound like a decent price for this car? It could use a good detail.
My car be making a high pressure air noise when I accelerate and make turns. Also when I'm on the highway, the RPM be shooting up to 3 and won't shift down. I have to pull over and turn the car off then back on again then take off. Also when it be making the weird noise(High pressure air noise) when I turn left or right, I think I hear the fans making a weird noise but it all stops when I press on the breaks.
I wish i would of found this video sooner. My transmission went out the same day I got it flushed. Its going to cost me 8000 to fix according to chevy.
I recently got a 2007 saturn aura with the same 3.5 v6, its got 124k miles, should i change the transmission fluid? No idea if it was changed ever in the past
Now I've heard of people never change in their transmission fluid ever in the whole entire life and ride on that same transmission fluid now and my advice changing it one time wouldn't hurt the issue with changing Transmissions is sometimes you get these little pieces of metal that come out of your transmission in the fluid and that is no good so it's really your choice if you want to change it or not my transmission fluid in my vehicle is red it is not black so it's definitely been changed with almost 220,000 miles and it's a fusion not the prettiest car since they clear coat Faded and painted started peeling but hey it gets me around for the most part and I normally don't travel to far. It's been 11 months since you've commented of this video. I'd say take a shot give it a little maintenance and give that transmission a change put some new fluid in it I'm sure it's black by now lol. I've drove mine probably 4k miles still red as can be 👍
If you want a good reliable car for many years do not buy a turbo engine. Unfortunately because of government regulations to meet mpg standards alot of companies are going CVT and turbos even Toyota. I would right now if you got money go buy a nice so lightly used V6 Honda or Toyota with a 6 speed. The days of car reliability is over
I’m thinking about buying rn till i get what I really want but not sure if they are really good cars and the seller says it has about 32-40 k miles 2010 Malibu
i have a chevy malibu 09 2.4 i burnt my fuel relay pump fuse real bad would my next step be to get a whole new fuse box if so how much would that be and is my fuse box wired in or a simple click in
This is the type of Car that my Middle School Teacher has, she has it a Tan 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, because that's the type of Car that's perfect for her to have
I wouldn't dare bring my car to this shop who doesn't know what they are talking about. Power steering pump? There's no power steering pump coz it's electric.
Changing a starter should not affect your horn at all this seems like a pretty rare case to me my advice would be check your fuse make sure your horn fuse hasn't blown if that's not the case then I'm wondering if you have a horn anymore if you still got it the name must have did something wrong while installing your starter
The only problem I’ve seen with the 2017 models is the vacuum pumps. They’ll lock up and cause engine damage. I recommend replacing it if you buy it depending on how many miles on the car. Other than that, they are pretty decent cars.
I am going to college in a couple months and I am trying to find a good reliable car (not Toyota) for daily cheapy, Is the Chevy Cruze 2011-2015 a good reliable car for a students? If not what you guys suggest? Please let me know if you have knowledge about cars
Yes. In my opinion the Chevy Cruze is a pretty good car if maintained well! Maintenance is the key 🔑🔑🔑. The biggest thing is, a lot of the cooling parts are plastic and they often give out, causing the car to over heat! Most folks keep driving and blow the head gaskets. That’s why that’s a common issue with those cars. Other than that, I think they are pretty good!
Agreed, I had my 2011 Cruze for 3 years in college and my coolant system was a really annoying issue. I now have to get a new engine or entire new car because it overheated and is pretty much totaled. So it did me well for a few years but I also only paid 3,000$ so I wouldn’t pay over 5,000 for it!
My car was running fine... I got my taxes n thought let me treat my car. Changed all the fluids n got the transmission flushed. It died a few days later. 😢 I will never flush again.

The electrical issues are annoying but don't affect the drive so if you don't care it's not a deal breaker and the control arms are expected to go out on a high mileage car like that. Also my tranny was serviced recently at 210,000k miles and they told me it was solid so maybe I'm just lucky.
Apparently a cracked exhaust manifold is pretty common. About to replace that on my 2010 malibu at 140k miles
Just bought an 2010 LTZ with only 97K miles. Garage kept. One owner. Almost mint condition.
Got it for the amazing price of 5500.
So just doing some research on it now
How’s it going for you so far
I love how you both work together ❤❤❤
Im currently working towards purchasing a 08-12 chevy malibu. So im looking to see everything that needs attention on these specific cars, ill use your channel 👍
I don’t recommend it. I have a 10’ Malibu. Had it for about 5 years. ENGINE POWER REDUCED!!! That’s all I’m gonna say
Please I urge you to look up electrical problems with the Malibu 7th Gen (08-12) before you waste your money.
I had a 2014 loved it. Bout to buy another 09
Love my Malibu only issue I’ve had is it “Kicks” when I’m slowing down and suddenly need to speed up like when u stopping at a light and it turns green …. Anyone else ?
you might need a motor mount or trans mount
Try a transmission drain and fill.
My 2011 malibu was ok for two years. Some minor issues but not bad. Monday I backed out of my driveway and then it would not engage into fwd. I only have reverse now. I have a new auto trans fluid pipe delivered and will be checking if that's the issue.
@@benerval7 Any fix? Have the exact same issue with exact same vehicle.
Warning though... as with anything... when you swap parts it will never feel/drive exactly the same
I overall blame the poor design from chevy for this tranny.
3 rack n pinions🤣🤣 gm cars are good but you just gotta maintain it 100%
Please explain difference between
1. Transmission flush
And
2.Drain/field?
Current owner of 2010/ 2.4 engine (purchased at dealership with 30,000)/ current mileage 230,000.
Problems:
1. Third brake light.
2. Control arm/high mileage
3. VVT solenoid (replaced both/exhaust solenoid and intake solenoid)at least it wasn't the timing chain.
4. Transmission negligence (guilty as charge)
Have never replaced transmission fluid.
Current code showing, transmission solenoid. Transmission won't accelerate fast when I'm in complete stop nor when I'm trying to over pass another vehicle.
Any suggestions?
Regarding engines, have mostly heard the opposite that 6cylinder have more problems than 4 cylinder.
One’s a flush and the other is a drain and fill
Thanks. Didn't understand at first.
Will do a drain and fill for maintenance. Hopefully, the Malibu will give me from one to five more years because new car and truck prices are ridiculously high.
Thank you for sharing! Your duo makes for a great video, very informative!
2011 V6 LTZ had it for 8 years no problems just replaced the radiator fan because road construction left some thick gray mud on the road and got all in my fans.
love this video. 100% agree on the tranmission flush.
Car Dr what do u think about 4.2 chevy engine in 2002 unit 2008 chevy trailblazer
I have a 2008 Malibu with 3.5, I have an on going issue of the engine running rich. I can smell the gas while idling.
2008 impala Les. Drive Tran runs like a champ. 148k miles. Trans fluid still is red.
Bro istg I towed the car off the express got homeeej this video and it literally worked ! That’s crazy asl glad I only spent 125 on a tow instead of buying parts

What about the notorious...Engine reduce power warning flaw?
I don’t normally see that problem in my shop
As a normal non mechanic citizen bout 80% of what this man is talking bout is either something I don’t know about, something I don’t know how to change, or something I don’t know how often to change.
Had an 06 Impala, had to replace the pwr steering pump and rack/pinion and fuel pump. I owned it for almost 15 years
When the dealer says flush trans fluid is that as good as change Transmission fluid.
im dealing with a reduced engine power problem not sure what's going on, have a 2008 malibu
I have a 2010 Chevy Malibu LT, for a few weeks my car would take a long time to catch gear and go past 20 mph once past 20mph no problem now my Malibu won’t go anywhere once in drive but will move in reverse, can’t figure out if it would be bad solenoid or maybe oil feeding tubes ?
I’m not a big transmission guy, my experience I do believe it’s the transmission going out
Just did this 20 minutes ago and my shit fired right up. Thanks Bro.
Wow he really is a car doctor brilliant!!!!

Bout a 2011 Chevy Malibu LT and the power steering light comes on ….service esc light and….. steering wheel is very hard to turn
I’ve had to replace a motor mount and have done a drain and fill, brakes on time etc, 189k 2012 2.4 1LT, no major issues
I have a 2012 Chevy Malibu LT and I’m having electrical issues well I think no icon indicator lit up in dashboard but maybe it’s my keyless remote every time I use it the car locks unlock constantly and and one min I can open my trunk from the inside button then it won’t open then the security system keeps beeping the horn not sure what to do I brought this car used with 54,000 miles one owner excellent condition beside that
I feel your pain. I own a 2009 model an I have the same issue you are having and then some.
changing the lights you have to take the whole front bumper off and if its cracked its over with
Facts it's bs
@@AlexTheCarDoctor you have been so helpful and I do appreciate this and I will let my mechanic know that this could be it, thank you and I will keep in touch to let you know the results and I pray this will be it , oh is it ok to drive another week till I can get it in and I notice I use alot of gas is that one of the symptom.
well I call my mechanic and let him know that the gas cap didn't do any good because the light was back on the next day, so I did ask them could they check the purge value and I will gladly pay for it because I want to see if that is the problem, but I guess he got offended because I was subjecting what I thought it may be and I haven't heard back .
Would you change the filter in a drain and fill ?
My 2012 just started driving as if it’s in manual staying on 4/5 rpm. At times . Should i change the fluid? I feel like nobody never did it before i got this car and im at 201010k
Only issue I’ve had on my 2012 is had to get the torque sensor replaced but it was under warranty. The power steering went out on it.
150k miles or below. Free replacment.
Torque sensor?
Thank you, I have work to do on my mans Chevy Malibu.

Coolant Temp Sensor issues on 2.4L and headlight lamp constantly goes out, also door lock malfunction.
Hi, I have a 2010 chevy Malibu. It got where it wouldn't go over 20 mph, if you tried to force it to go faster, it would start hunching and die. We started changing sensors, but never chose one that solved the problem. My poor car has been sitting since March 2021 😢
Hey there sorry to hear that, is the check engine light on if so what is the code. You may have a stoped up catalytic converter
@@AlexTheCarDoctor thanks for answering back
my car did the exact same thing i needed new catalytic converters and air compressor
Sounds like a possible catalytic converter issue.
Would this cause the car to rock like you're in a boat, when she gets to running temp? Turning on the AC makes it worse
Hi Brother…I have Chevy Malibu Hybrid 2009 4 Cy. Hey bud my chevy malibu 2012 is overheating and everytime i put water the water leaks from the coolant tank and i had looked under the car and i saw a crack leaking from the hose (lower) and my heater blow out cold im wondering if it the radiator, hoses or thermostat should i change the hoses first amd drain the water ?
Hey there hopefully you did not run it hot enough where it blew the head gasket, do a block test to make sure the head gasket is good before you replace anything.I will send you the video link on how to do that test,if it pass then make the repairs and the heat will start back working
okay i have an questions? if the oil is some how getting on your pulleys and getting on your the bottom of your air intake hose to hitting the top of the hood where do you think the oil is coming from??
Most likely power steering pump

My daughter bought a 2012 Malibu. The rear defrost doesn't work. You push the rear defrost button on dash and yellow light comes on but rear defrost doesn't work. I have checked the wire harness plug inside front passenger door behind trim. I didn't see any wires burnt like the purple wire going into that plug and black wire coming out going to rear defrost. Is there something else I need to check ? is there a fuse some where in rear of car for the rear defrost ? Thanks !
The defrost wire inside the glass is probably cut somewhere. All it takes is a lil knick.

Check you air filter box some people don’t know how to put it on correctly and you get this air noise!
Another problem I’ve had are the door speakers

I wish i would of found this video sooner. My transmission went out the same day I got it flushed. Its going to cost me 8000 to fix according to chevy.
Whoa! That’s a lot. I’m sorry to hear that.
Have 4cyl 09 with 242,000 on her. Shocks, struts, tires and oil changes all has been done.
I've drove mine probably 4k miles still red as can be 👍
Worst car I’ve ever owned was a 2011 Chevy Malibu. Problems galore. Not recommended.
would you recommend the 2022 2023 1.5t or 2.0t?
If you want a good reliable car for many years do not buy a turbo engine. Unfortunately because of government regulations to meet mpg standards alot of companies are going CVT and turbos even Toyota. I would right now if you got money go buy a nice so lightly used V6 Honda or Toyota with a 6 speed. The days of car reliability is over
I would buy neither and buy a Camry instead. If you want a turbo car, buy a 2.0T Honda Accord instead.
I’m thinking about buying rn till i get what I really want but not sure if they are really good cars and the seller says it has about 32-40 k miles 2010 Malibu

I spy a Nissan Hardbody in the background

How about the newer ones 2018 and above?
Those are the ones with the vacuum pump issues that can destroy the cams. They are decent? Just gotta change the oil religiously!
