Toxic wisdom was the last song dm dokuro made, he was dealing with a lot of problems, and the fan base was not helping at all. So he kinda wrote that song using his own emotions at the time.
He's publicly stated that, after the abuse he suffered from the Calamity fandom, he has basically renounced all the songs he made for calamity and wishes nothing to do with terraria at all. The fandom really messed him up.
@@orangethesaberguy7638that’s awful… and I’m sure it doesn’t make it any easier that so many people recognize him as the Calamity ost guy. It’s probably a constant reminder of what he went through any time that someone mentions it, even in a positive manner
@@nathanflinchum1153 i might be wrong but he was also dealing with other issues that compounded on it and the calamity fandom was the last straw, he "may" have stated sometime after that it was not the main cause as he was not in a good head space at the time but i may be wrong
Just a clarification for the people who don’t know, Dokuro still makes songs, just not Calamity, and they’re generally in a vastly different genre, although songs like Still Here and Bacteriophage still have metal elements Calamity fans would enjoy.
what did the fanbase do?
I've always loved the fact that DM Dokuro has the ability to combine so many different genres into the span of around 2 minutes.
Those tubular bells aren't just there because Dokuro likes 'em, they are important to the story of Calamity. If you listen to the former soundtracks you'll notice a lack of them, up until the later bosses. That is because the bells are a form of que to tell you that the being that the theme is for is not only important to the story of Calamity, but also a being of great power that demands your respect and fear.
In operatic music, tubular bells signify an incoming disaster or, in this case, calamity. It's musical story telling!!
@@PoisonousNut-le3jn like in nier
Btw, fun fact. Many in the gaming ost scene just call tubular bells Calamity bells. The name really fits tbh not just because Calamity is so iconic for using them, but also in the way that they really do sound like a "Calamity" is approaching.
since when? calamity mod doesnt predate games that have osts with tubular bells lol
looked it up as well, seems to be the past 3 years for people referencing specifically calamity soundtrack. idk seems silly to me, a lot of people havent played or heard the calamity ost or played the mod in general. one person doesnt deserve credit for something done 20 years ago in game ost.
it is also (don't quote me on this) mostly used in the presence of a god in the soundtrack, so you can hear it a lot more in the post moonlord tracks!
they’re literally the Church Bells from touhou they are not “calamity bells”
@@MemeDoggo_not true at all
As always, its so good to see more calamity. Just a tip, the next saga of the songs Servants of the scourge, scourge of the universe, and Universal collapse are all combined in the Devourer of gods nonstop mix. Its IMO the best way to experience it, and it adds an entire new section of music. Great Reaction!

Man listened to five seconds of Unholy Insurgency and described Providence as a boss perfectly: sinister but angelic. Amazing how ideas can be conveyed to someone through music
In the description of the Toxic Wisdom video, DM Dokuro says:
"When writing this, I had to ask myself 'what goes through the mind of a fading legend?'"
It really puts in perspective the emotion he's trying to display in each piece of his music.
Makes sense it was also the last song he made for calamity before quitting pretty sure he poured a lot of what he was feeling at the time into the song
0:30 unholy ambush, 9:32 unholy insurgency, 18:47 feral amalgamation, 27:26 toxic wisdom
I love when osts meant for fights have an uplifting tone as if even the song is cheering you on to win. Calamity has a lot of this and it makes fighting the bosses so much more enjoyable.
And then there is roar of the jungle dragon
@@darkcrow3350even the roar of the jungle is saying the player is insanely strong and that yharon cannot beat us
@@derontanzil6939 that's not it. I don't know I just feel somewhat guilty when I hear the lyrics since the monsters you have been fighting up to that point didn't really have personality or a reason to sympathize with em. Roar of the jungle dragon just has a undertone of of sadness with it.
when you started to play the providence music I 100% got them chills and they were the chills of a great player! you played it so well it felt right.
So happy to see this installment, unholy insurgency is one of my most streamed spotify songs of all time haha! Glad to see you liked it too ❤

Toxic Wisdom is a song that carries a great undertone of sorrow, and anger, at least in my opinion. It's the last song that DM Dokuro composed for the Calamity mod before leaving the team due to constant harassment he was facing regarding his music. The worst part is, it was a loud minority that caused him to leave, and now everyone regrets it.
And if I find those “people”, something’s coming to them that they are not gonna be ready for.
@@Mech3001Would you say that a *Calamity* would befall them? ',:-)
It always breaks my heart to think that DM Dokuro won't make the ost for Yharim
I hope to god that whoever makes it does it the justice the Calamity soundtrack deserves, DOKURO did an amazing job and Yharim's theme better have those bells!
Watching this guy be in shock of how good the music is always makes me feel really good
We have entered the last stretch of Calamity! Great series so far and I'm so excited for Interlude 3, the final Calamitas theme, and ofc "THE ENEMY ASCENDED BEYOND YOUR CONTROOOOL"
BTW, when you finish (or, well after because these have all already been recorded) you should also listen to the post-Dokuro calamity soundtracks (such as the Exo Mechs theme)
OR WAS THIS ALL YOUR INTENTION

Great video SPG! I agree that having songs on loops is always nice! I love re-listening to songs/pieces because like you said you hear new things each time! Personally I really like sudden key changes because it keeps me interested. Provided that they aren't overused. Also I 100% agree that music is about the emotion and the humanity. It allows you to express concepts and situations without words, which can reduce communication barriers! Also, CalamityComposerGamer? Yes please! Synth trumpet you say? Blasphemy it's oboe :P (jk jk jk jk)
Thank you so much BabySploon!!
that is totally a synth trumpet
@@silvergecko1174 haha yes I'm aware! I was just joking (hence the jks) because I love oboe and SPG mentioned oboe as an option.

Providence is probably my favorite boss track of all Calamity's music
That beat drop at 1:15 in the song is absolutely NUTS.
Loved the review. Most others just gloss over these pieces, despite their quality, in favor of Universal Collapse or Roar of the Jungle Dragon, but you took the time to put into words why these pieces are so great and most of my personal top favorites of the Calamity OST.
Hot take: Universal Collapse isn't as good as Scourge of the Universe
My favorite is definitely “Left Alone”, theme of the Brimstone elemental! A lot of the tracks are completely slept on, I agree with ya!

Ah, Providence. The boss who's lore is best summarized as "And then everyone fought each other so hard, they accidentally made a new god".
Not even kidding. Providence is literally "What if we threw magic nukes against each other until the explosions became sentient?" The stone forming it's body is supposedly chunks of the planet's crust ripped up in the blast. It's "The profaned god", because it's a fusion of holy and unholy magic from an ancient war, a war which it's accidental creation ended, because nobody wants to fight the gigantic living perpetual nuclear explosion.
Except for the player, because of course. It stands between you and the end credits, so of course you do.
That's the old lore, and is sadly no longer canon. The new lore is that Providence was one member of a group of four "visionaries" who killed a Dragon for its Auric soul. Providence was the one who absorbed the soul, while the other three became her guardians.
Initially I included a note of "last time I checked" regarding the lore. It's certainly been a while since I played this mod, and it's feeling like a good time for another run through.
Reason that note was omitted is it took a few revisions to type something that didn't feel to rambly. I have a nasty habit of "going into lecture mode" by accident and it's like Bruce Banner restraining the hulk.
"You wouldn't like me when I'm 🤓"
When you play along with these songs, the vibe of them can shift subtley, to wildly. I really like how you add and shift the vibe as you play along!
You're definetally my favourite person i've seen react to calamity music. You just show so much passion and also play a cool remix at the end of every song! Keep up the good work my man.
I was always questioning electric violins but man, the techniques and sounds you produced with it today are really unique. Like a manual and regal synth at times, amazing work!
My only problem with it is that it drowns out the rest of the music. I feel like if he could turn down the volume of the violin just a bit it could blend in so we'll with the rest of the songs.
@@alexandercox9004 I think that is intended. If he makes an actual cover, it tends to sound a lot better in relation to the track
I really hope he listens to the celeste ost sometime also loving the calamity reactions
I have started learning the violin and have been practicing and need to get into a regular practice schedule.
The Violin is a beautiful instrument and I fealt it might mesh with me well on that emotional level.
You make the violin sound so great😊
I love how you add new parts to the songs, it's so cool

If you didnt know, there are actually secret messages in some of the songs. For instance in 30:28 (for a literal micro second) it says "Theme of the boomer fish" instead of "Theme of the old duke"
Lol the Boomer fish 😂
This series of videos are always my favorite and I think a celeste music reaction would be awesome
Will you do calamity infernum themes in the future? Your reaction and analysing is great😊
I woke up to the notification Sound. It literally saved my workday because my alarm didn't go off.😅 But thank you very much for reacting to more Calamity music.
We are so close to the Devourer of Gods’ symphonic masterpiece. Can’t wait to see your reaction to it!
love your take on the music as always
These videos have existed for so long that basically every boss sprite in the thumbnails has been remade to be improved, since then. The music is so good however, that it will never be replaced (and unfortunately, none of the new composers will do nearly as well as dokuro did)
I wouldn’t say that the new composers will do as good as DM. It’ll likely be hard to reach DM’s quality, but that shouldn’t be an excuse to not give the new music a chance. Heart Plus Up has made a lot of good stuff in the past, mostly amazing ambience biome music
@@Magenta_Nimbat While I respect them as artists, I personally find their compositions repetitive and instrument choices bland
Alright, another lore drop!
A long long time ago, the world was ruled by dragons. These dragons had mighty souls, the Auric Souls, that granted them dominion over an aspect of the world.
That was until humans, in their incessant greed, found a way to bind the auric souls of slayed dragons to their own and ascend to Godhood.
Providence was one of these humans. She and three others took down a dragon and she consumed its Auric Soul, the Soul of Flame. In her grace, limited as it was, she granted her Profaned Flame to the three others, thus making them the Guardians of the Profaned Goddess. She seeked to burn the world to ashes, and saw you as the greatest threat to her plan, seeing as you had taken down the thing that catalysed the Dragons downfall.
---
The Jungle Tyrant, Yharim, in his crusade against the false Gods, trampled all who dared stand in his way. The slaughtered were disposed of in a dungeon, and the restless souls of the fallen amalgamated into the Polterghast. Forever bound to the dungeon, forever restless, filled with the rage and hatred of thousands towards a singular person, but directed at anyone who would dare to disturb them.
26:40 The violin complement to Feral Amalgamation struck me as sounding really similar to, of all things, the Celeste Farewell soundtrack
Battalion Wars 2, almost the entire ost is complete perfection and I can't tell if the missions were designed around the music or the music was designed around the mission it fits so well
Your videos are honestly awesome and I love that somebody understands how great game soundtracks are! You should check out the Blazing Beaks soundtrack as well, it is insanely creative and intellegent from a musical perspective. Expect funky, changing music which feels insanely alive, as it perfectly describes the environment it is meant for. I hope you see this! :)
You should definetly react to the workshop tier 1-6 themes
It really shows how the player progresses and uprades his gear throughout the playthrough
I know you've already done one, but I would love to see more Risk of Rain 2 reactions, maybe in the same format as this and go in OST order! I think you would have a blast trying to figure out those pieces :D
Definitely more to come once I'm back from traveling.
You really make me favorite songs in calamity that "i wouldn't probably like" list❤
i know you said in this video that deep theory dive into the pieces are for musicians , but as one myself i would enjoy a lot if you (maybe rarely) did one video every so often that dives in. I know that deep musical analisis is much more challenging, in fact this would be pretty much a gift for us dear spg, so please 🙏
Cant wait until you get to Jungle Dragon, you'll be shaken to your core
With toxic wisdom and feral amalgamation especially, I feel the percussion goes underappreciated. With a lot of the later soundtracks, dokuro really poured his heart and soul into the drumset parts exceptionally well
Well Devourer of gods and supreme witch calamitas will be Last soundtracks ofcourse. Including all Devourer of gods soundtracks that they're symphonic masterpiece
I feel like after string player is done with the calamity ost he should go to its addons
Recomandations:
-vanilla calamity mod music
-calamity: wrath of the gods
-calamity infernum mode (really wanted by me)
To me music has always been about innovation. It gets to the point where if you listen to music enough, you can just ‘get’ what’s going to come next, whether that be chord progressions or structure. So innovation always flips that and brings new experiences, even if its just on base foundations.
The entire calamity soundtrack is wonderful
12:11 - 12:41 that whole sequence is absolutely beautiful. Because it fits the fight so well.
I mean, you build an arena (probably) and summon a goddess and fight her. Probably fail a few times, cause the fight is a bit hard, but you get better and better.
At some point you go on paar and surpass her. So the uplifting sets your heart ablaze (pun intended)
Second interludes ending melody always brings tears to my eyes...either the tragic fate our fire doggo will have or the masochistic endurance I needed to end him, it sends chills down my spine to this day.
Well, I have a suggestion. Two tracks that I also met in Terraria, this time from Fargo's souls mod. "Stigma" and "Steel Red" by Sakuzyo. The first plays during the Abomination fight in the mod, the second when we fight his brother, Mutant. You might not be interesting of course, but I love those two tracks. So please do what you want with this suggestion and keep up the good work, here on youtube. Thank you.
such a pleasure to hear you break down why these songs are masterpieces and why dokuro is such a talented composer with how he blends musical genres together seamlessly! I think it is a very fair assessment to compare him to bach in his level of musical genius!
DM Dokuro's experience with the Calamity fanbase is probably the biggest reason I don't even dare touch the community
For someone who has been in constant contact with the calamity community, there are only few residues left of that toxicity towards dokuro. Everyone regrets what happened, but there's not much to do anymore, the damage has already been done, and one of the greatest composers I've ever known won't be going back to his creation. And that's what hurts the most, but you can't blame dokuro, only condemn those who harassed him.
I kind of despise the community for doing that to him. But maybe I can give the community a second chance.
Maybe…
@@timebladeu is not the main character 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@sebastianroman4024 Aside from that though, I've heard a lot of terrible stuff like several composers refusing to work with Calamity, the community being incredibly toxic with elitism and such, the dreaded discussion of the summoner class and whips, and so forth.
If there's anything I've learned from getting involved in fandoms, it's to not do so. It just ruins the entire experience

Heyo, as much as i adore the music of the calamity mod could you have a look at the wargroove ost since its quite good, in my opinion. There is also a sequel that just came out so their would be increased amounts of searching for it on youtube. Ps was theat the blue lobster jumpscare?
Edit - they are totally tubular
Really hoping to see Infernum mod OST some time in the future!
4 in one today! Unholy Ambush is something of a prelude to Unholy Insurgency, which is why they have similar names and similar styles. (Their shared elements were also both referenced in Storms before the catastrophes.) You mentioned that Unholy Ambush seemed a bit simpler than other tracks, and that's probably because Dokuro was saving the complexity for Unholy Insurgency.
Oh boy, not many to go, and they all fit into 3 connected groups. Muderswarm, Infernal Catharsis (Rebirth), and Roar of the Jungle Dragon should probably go together (with Infernal Catharsis (the original version) if you'll be including it). Then there's Servants of the Scourge, Scourge of the Universe, and UNIVERSAL COLLAPSE which are actually packaged into a single video as The Devourer of Gods: Nonstop Mix. (Similar to how the Leviathan Trilogy contained three separate related songs.) Lastly, there's Catastrophes before the calamity (the third and final interlude) and Stained, Brutal Calamity, for which it's not a controversial opinion to call DM Dokuro's Magnum Opus. There's also Interior Fabrications, but it wasn't composed by DM Dokuro and was made after he left the Calamity project.
I'm waiting anxiously for Universe Collapse
5:35 bro unintentionally sounded like the minecraft dungeons camp theme (i think its called darma? i dont remember)
I believe the next tracks you’ll be listening to will be the ones related to “The Devourer of Gods,” in which case I suggest considering instead listening to DM Dokuro’s “Nonstop Mix” video where all of the songs are put together into one united, well, nonstop mix.
Check pinned post.
Once again need to recommend the Library of Ruina soundtrack. Simply can't even begin to put into words how good it is.
Cant wait for him to listen Roar of the Jungle Dragon!
Calamity has always had some of my most favorite music out of any terraria mod. Especially unholy insurgency here with the intro...
Leg bone and spine tingling. Powerful. Angelic and yet hellish. A fight you've been yearning to take. And here it is... Providence.
Feral Amalgamation has that same similar vibe with the tingling feeling, that powerful, angelic yet hellish vibe.
Bosses that have these kinds of songs really make you feel like you're really working for freedom from the harassment of the Supreme Witch, Calamitas. It's that power that drives you to fight, even if you fall. You can get back up again, and again, and again. And it's what I love about Dokuro's work... I just wish the fan base didn't harass him into leaving..
Have you heard his MGR Stains of Time remix? I'm not sure if it's on youtube, but it's on his Soundcloud with much of his earlier work
