It's not one of the big multi-movement pieces but I really think you'd get a kick out of infestation - crabulons theme. Also sanctuary, hadopelagic pressure, void, and catastrophes before the calamity are all really good ambient pieces that I think represent their respective biomes/places in the world really superbly. Honestly, you could take any song from the calamity soundtrack and make a video on it.
Is there more music from this I need to hear? Yes! Let me explain... There are 3 tracks that are considered the "Triforce" of the Calamity soundstrack: "Universal Collapse", "Roar of the Jungle Dragon" and "Stained, Brutal Calamity". If the fandom finds this videos it is likely that they'll say about these one, although the entire soundtrack is worth listening. Speaking of soundtrack, here is more context about it as a whole, if you want to know Well... how do I say.... this ost is a combination of multiple stuff. We have the music for the new things the mod add (made by DM DOKURO and, after he left, CD Music) but we also have, optionally, music that replaces most tracks from the original game, and there still fan made songs to talk about 😅 However, when we talk about Terraria Calamity music, we are usually referring to DOKURO's work: the album *"The Tale of a Crual World"* , available here on yt and in his bandcamp. That's the main thing, basically
Also, if you do listen to Universal Collapse, I would recommend listening to the "Devourer of Gods (Nonstop Mix)." The nonstop mix is a combination of the boss' three phase themes (Universal Collapse being the final phase), and is in my opinion the best way to listen to the song. It's only up on DM DOKURO's youtube channel, you won't be able to find it on spotify
@@Disconnect03 Yep! It also adds a shocking amount of completely new stuff, both as interludes and to the songs themselves. Universal Collapse is _much_ more interesting in the nonstop mix than it is on its own - the version on its own actually seems lacklustre to me since I'm so used to the nonstop mix version.
Bit of context: this boss is fought around midway through the game and is a weaker version of the (current) final boss, and this theme contains leitmotifs from all 8 mod original bosses fought before it.
Now you need to listen to Stained, Brutal Calamity. Basically this piece but more badass. This theme is for a ”fake” version of the final boss which is called Supreme Calamitas.
Fun fact: The melodies keep changing because they are all references to previous bosses themes you fight in the game! Keep that in mind if you do more videos of this ost, witch I TOTALY approve! 😃👍
Even though it's definitely no AAA budget production the Calamity Mod OST is one of my personal favorite game OST's of all time. It's a mix of nostalgia, playing Calamity with my friends back during lockdown and just the mod itself being absolutely awesome. DMDOKURO imbued every single song he made for this mod with so much meaning using tons of leitmotifs and whatnot. I'm not a musical genius but when playing the mod and listening to the music as it plays you just notice how much love was put into this. As for context to this song specifically... Basically you are fighting a clone of the eventual final boss around half-way through the mod. This song utilizes like 7 or 8 leitmotifs of all the other modded bosses you fight before that point in the game making it go all sorts of places while still somehow following the "Calamitas" kind of vibe. Terraria doesn't have a ton of story elements to it and while the Calamity Mod has some cool lore it's kind of all over the place and half of it has been retconned at least a billions times so I don't have too much to say unfortunately XD. It's just a climactic moment right in the middle and after the battle the world "transforms" and a lot of new content is unlocked as you progress into later stages of the game. Terraria-Calamity is all about beating bosses and causing world-changing events to unlock even more powerful gear and beat even tougher bosses until you face of with the Supreme Witch Calamitas (for real this time).
I didn't see anyone mention, but a majority of this track is jammed with leitmotifs and riffs from previous boss tracks. The use of leitmotifs in this mod is insane, and some of the sounds in this fight will be reused for later areas/fights in the game. Particularly there is a series of "Calamity" or "Brimstone" tracks in this game that use leitmotifs to connect them gameplay and worldbuilding-wise.
As you asked for the context, this music is used for the battle against the mechanical clone of a powerful witch, who's an endgame boss, that said, even being really far behind the real thing, her clone is really powerful and brings a lot of challenge in the game
"roar of the jungle dragon", "stained, brutal calamity", "infestation", and "the hive mind". this whole soundtrack is extremely well built but those ones, especially the hive mind, are my favorites. thanks for checking it out!
As most people would have already said, the (sort of sequel piece) stained, brutal calamity, universal collapse, and roar of the jungle dragon are the main 3 ones everyone loves. However a couple others that are amazing are “infestation”, and “fly of beelzebub”. There are so many more that I could recommend but most people would just ask for these ones. Also, terraria is a 2d pixel art rpg where you are in a pretty big world where you loot mine and craft weapons and armour to beat harder challenges like bosses (mostly bosses). In my opinion a masterpiece that excels in its progression and gameplay, and the calamity mod is arguably one of the greatest mods ever made for a game. A ridiculous amount of effort and time has been made into basically double the games content and length.
Always like seeing people's first impressions of this sountrack. If you ever tackle the calamity ost again, I honestly just recommend doing the album in order because of the way leitmotifs are introduced and brought back in later pieces.
YOOO i cant wait to watch this, my favorite game of all time, my favorite mod of the game and my top 3 soundtracks being reviewed by my favorite reaction/music analysis youtuber whoohoo
If you listen to more of this, keep in mind that a lot of the soundtracks are related so it might be good to listen to related tracks in a single sitting. For example theres the Devourer of Gods tracks with 3 different boss themes: Servants of the Scourge -> Scourge of the Universe -> Universal Collapse I absolutely love those 3 in particular AND on top of that DM Dokuro remastered all 3 of those tracks into a single 13-minutes song called "The Devourer of Gods (Nonstop Mix)" which is ABSOLUTELY worth giving a listen to, while not part of the OST, its still saily my favourite out of all of them. The one you just listened to has a second phase (?) theme called "Stained, Brutal Calamity" (WHICH IS AMAZING... and 13 minutes long :3) Theres a bunch more but those 2 are the notable relations, the other ones dont really share many leitmotifs.
Fun fact about this music its a combination of most of the boss before it. This boss is basically a clone of the last last boss, Supreme calamitas. I dont really remember her lore except that shes a clone of the last boss and that she has 2 brothers catastrophe and cataclysm
The Devourer of Gods (Nonstop Mix) is a really nice piece of a fight between the player and a Giant Metal Space-Worm and the worm's 3 Guardians (A black hole, a shadow assassin and a smaller stormy space worm) I highly recommend it :)
Honestly you could not go wrong listing to ANY of the tracks from the Calamity Mod OST. They're all incredible. If you're interested, I put together a TH-cam playlist with all of the songs that is actually in the right order, unlike the official playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLgD5S7IzAsnmZQhRrj2EYMWeXh4ADPdBM.html
you should definitely react to more calamity songs, they all have this level of detail and quality (or better) roar of the jungle dragon and (for me) interstellar stomper are "nectar of the gods" for your ears, both have guitar solos that will absolutely melt your face off from the sheer power lol
I said this in a comment reply but just so you can see this, if you do listen to Universal Collapse, I would recommend listening to the "Devourer of Gods (Nonstop Mix)." The nonstop mix is a combination of the boss' three phase themes (Universal Collapse being the final phase), and is in my opinion the best way to listen to the song. It's only up on DM DOKURO's youtube channel, you won't be able to find it on spotify
Adding to the possible pile of context comments: this is basically the "midway boss" of Calamity, and is the climax of your adventure thus far. It's a weaker version of the current final and hardest boss, but it's still no slouch, and it features leitmotifs from all previous bosses of the mod, to underline how far you've gotten to get here, and all those bosses you thought you'd never beat. You've gotten here, you've beaten these. You can beat this, too. The entire soundtrack is FULL of little narrative elements and if you do listen to more, you absolutely should do them in order so that there's a little bit of context and you can actually feel the progression :D
Calamity ost is one of my favorite soundtracks. The entire thing was made like 4-6 years ago. Imagine how good it could be if the author didnt despise the entire terraria community and remake some of the songs today.
Yes all the calamity songs are designed to loop (though they all loop once in the video). I think it's great if you missed something along the music. As for the next song, I suggest you give a try to Devourer of Gods Non-Stop mix (15min-ish). It contains all themes of the devourers boss and his minions and was considered one of the most iconic.
people in the comments are recommending the Devourer of Gods nonstop mix, however the official OST versions use the individual themes which I suggest you listen to. (I think they actually sound better in terms of quality)
Just somthing to note not a big deal but terraria is a boss fighing game and each boss has a theme in the order in which they are fought ( obvious i know ) but sometimes other themes will prepare you? In a way for the next theme ( fight in game ) so make sure you hear them in the correct order! They are all great listens so it dosent matter if you hear the last theme then the first but it can help with context of the dread built up in game
knowing he likes Rocky theme, I want he reacted on the "Roar of the Jungle Dragon", "Slime God", and "Stained, Brutal Calamity", however I hope he react on the "Devoured of God Theme (nonstop mix)" as it's my favorite theme from Calamity
*Most* of the tracks on this OST do loop at the halfway point, but not all of them, just as a heads up. Also, a couple of people have asked for you to do Universal Collapse, but I'd just like to add myself to the voices telling you to listen to the 'Devourer of Gods nonstop mix' instead since it combines all 3 DoG related tracks while adding a fair amount of completely new content. You should check out Blood Coagulant, too. Very interesting sound, that one. Very Doom 2016, but it differentiates itself quite a bit.
If you're looking for other osts to react to, I highly recommend the OST for Ultrakill. Tracks like Chaos & Order, Tenebre Rosso Sangue, War, The Death of God's Will, The Cybergrind, Death Odyssey, and Altars of Apostasy are my personal favorites. I'd also highly reccomend checking the game out, it's definitely worth your time!
hey you need to now listen to the whole ost, you have started and you must finish. but being fr this ost is in my opinion one of the best albums in gaming. DM dokuro is an amazing artist and deservers all the hype. you should listen to just everything cause all of it is amazing :)
Hey Tony, if you do decide to play Calamity mod until its end, would like to tell most likely it'll take a lot of time (checking the reddit community it seems to be 50-170 hours and personally mine is on the 170+ range as well), and because there is a difficulty spike in comparison to normal vanilla mode Terraria, maybe extra hours will be required for completion. Nevertheless, Calamity mod is by far the most loved mod pack for a game I have ever witnessed and the passion the developers put in this mod practically makes it a free expansion pack to Terraria. I know people give Guilty Gear a lot of praise (as they should) but it's lesser known little brother BlazBlue has some cool stuff in it's library, with it's kinda gothic cathedral metal. Tony seems to appreciate Daisuke's brand of crazy, think he'd get a kick out of Gluttony Fang II or Sector 7

My guess is that these mids are so low cause if they were to be high they would be a bit to much intrusive when you want to focus on game. Just a thought tho
Different game, but can you do a reaction from the Elden Ring dlc story trailer? There's some amazing music in there and I thought of you right when I heard it! Love your videos btw!
the pieces are also quite long, as you said music in games often loops, but terraria music in there base songs are quite long and loop after the full length, im not as familiar with the music for the mods such as the calamity mod, but id asume that those follow a simular loop, and this being a night boss its limited in time to about as long as the song itself is, due to the lenth of the night
Hey, Tony! I can't support you on patreon but really want you to check out one song. Under Heaven Destruction II from BlazBlue soundtrack. Its a second child of Daisuke Ishiwatari, creator of Guilty Gear. Kinda underdog, but a lot of people say it may probably have even better soundtrack than Guilty Gear. I would describe it as metal orchestra with Guilty Gear's level of craziness
Is there more music from this I need to hear?
Stained, Brutal Calamity, Roar of the Jungle Dragon, and Scourge of the Universe/Universal Collapse!

the pieces are also quite long, as you said music in games often loops, but terraria music in there base songs are quite long and loop after the full length, im not as familiar with the music for the mods such as the calamity mod, but id asume that those follow a simular loop, and this being a night boss its limited in time to about as long as the song itself is, due to the lenth of the night
