Fun fact: DM DOKURO outright REFUSED to compose a single note for this theme until he finished the themes of every other boss prior; he wanted to incorporate as many of their motifs as possible into S.Cal’s theme.
I’ve said it before, but it really is a shame he left.
Oh is this the reason why one of his complaints was that everyone kept forcing him to do S.Cal’s theme?
@@HittingBandy everyone was forcing him to do more music. also there is also a scrapped DOG theme and seems like some likes it better than the current one we had officially.
he didnt leave, he was pushed out
@@jeromefeliciano4611wasn't that supposed to be a yharim related theme? (if you're talking about tyrant)
@@Palemis yeh yeh i think that one. i think a lot of people pushed him to finish it even though yharim isn't even done yet. i also do know that here is a scrapped dog theme it was deleted but someone posted it in yt long time ago and its almost the same with the current one we had.
Never forget DM Dokuru composed one the greatest game soundtracks of all time as an unknown artist for a FREE mod.
and was being rushed and stressed by anyone, honestly with that stress if i was dm dokuro i would just quit before scal theme, much respect to him
He also made remixes of cave history, and they were extremely good but those remixes are only remembered because they were used as placeholders for calamity mod

it's very enjoyable
The story behind the Stained, Brutal Calamity is actually quite tragic. DM Dokuro refused to start it until all the other OST had been finished, but the community request it non-stop, over and over and over when Dokuro literally clarified multiple times that he wont start until others are finished. He was annoyed A LOT by the community, apparently some people even sent death threat to him just to make him compose this piece. By the time he finally started working on it, he was very demotivated but also forced to continue. Until it is eventually done, some people said it was bad, worse than the filler, could have been way better. This broke Dokuro and he quite around a year later due to the negativity. It is ridiculous.
Assholes man. ☹️ Threatening someone over something small like waiting is very immature, especially when dokuro was uploading his masterpieces for FREE on YT.
Those same people must feel hella bad now in hindsight where they're older.
The horrible point being, Why must they judge when I doubt they can do any better?
I joined after he quit and I absolutely despise the calamity community due to their treatment of him. He still is making music and I enjoy it.
@@Aeyzawuff A terrifying mral about what happens when people criticize negative when they dont actually know what they are saying or just plain choose to say bad things, grief lament epiphany and acceptance are the 4 stages of the song and I feel that somehow this are things Dokuro felt while writing it
This great journey has finally come to an end. I can do no more than suggest the soundtrack of one of Calamity's biggest inspirations: METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE.
Seriously: You will not regret listening to it.

Another thing that would be Nice, if he reacts to the other calamity mod soundtracks, mostly from the addons
You must to listen to a metal gear revengeance soundtrack
That final bit of the song always hits when you imagine the scenario happening without the obfuscation of 2D pixel art.
You had Calamitas beaten and bloodied; it was a struggle to get here, with adrenaline and exhaustion both fighting for control over you.
And then she concedes.
The player character wouldn't be blamed for ending her there and then... but they don't.
Calamitas, a witch powerful enough to turn oceans into deserts and scorch hell to ash...
Is spared.
Was it mercy? Greed? Logic?
Who knows.
Logic? more like ReLogic...
@@silksongoutyetmercy? More like mercy from overwatch
@@Lojo2018 i was thinking undertale but yeah that works too
Maybe the terrarian can see her for what she really is in that moment: a scarred, hopeless girl.
I would say scared, but I don't think that's the right word.
The terrarian sees her after all passion and hope has left her, and maybe, just maybe, they try to put both of those things back into her by showing her what Yharim did not. Kindness
I think the perfect ending to Calamity would be one where, we get Yharim to a point where he cannot fight anymore, then we let everyone he's hurt (Amidias, Permafrost, Calamitas) have a chance to look him dead in the eye before he's killed.
They've made it out the other side. Not unscathed, but they've made it.
mercy??? more like, human, i remember you're **genocides**
I suggest you check out the lyrics. On the first 3 major parts of Stained, Brutal Calamity; Grief, Lament, and Epiphany. Each have their own perspectives. For Grief, the perspective of the lyrics points toward Supreme Calamitas, the Brimstone Witch. Lament points towards the player as he confronts the witch. And Epiphany is the rest of the world as they look on to this legendary battle of the ages... Thank you for the series.
That’s why I love the use of the Brimstone Crags motif in Lament, it works because the player is probably worried about sharing a fate with the crags. “Are you sure you want to lose your life/ From a witch who has caused you nothing but strife”
In the yharon phase 2 reaction he said he isnt a fan of lyrics and only focus on whatever instruments are used
SBC is canon but some of the lyrics have to be interpreted in a slightly different way than what you'd think.
this was due to the lore rewrite a year back.
specifically the part where it says Cal was sent by Yharim, which however. in the new lore she wasnt sent by Yharim.
Every time I hear Stained, Brutal Calamity, it just gets better and better.
Always great to see someone who has never experienced this OST experience it for the first time. Glad I could be here for this journey
Truly an epic final theme for the final boss. Infernum next?
i feel like it might be a no, not not to sure tho.
Infernum music is awful, excepting the supreme witch calamitas new one. They change her theme for other much better.
Yoooo you were in the beginning of the video
your that person who somehow can do bosses hitless...
God I wish, Infernum and then VCMM and then Twisted Garden and so on and so forth
every single time, without fail, hearing the line "the end has come" in epiphany, will send the biggest goddamn chills down my spine lol. SCal's theme is absolutely incredible.
and thanks for this series! i've been following along since it first started!
fr, its almost got the same impact as "Rules of Nature!" or "The enemy ascended beyond your control!". best part of the song if im being honest.
It's the "ive come to far to give up now, YOU ARE GOING DOWN" moment of the fight and the music knows it and it boosts you up like nothing ever could
"End of reasoning" part is so good, too.
STAINED, BRUTAL CALAMITY
LYRICS:
=Grief - Perspective of Calamitas=
No more holding back
They'll wish for demise
They thought they were invincible
But you could see through their hollow lies
You've seen how far they've come
How many they've slain
You will gladly tear their limbs apart
All before they start to kill again
They were seen as a threat by the moment the dragon was killed by their hand
Now you're sent to demolish the foe upon your ruler's despondent demand
Something tells you they have scaled in their power
Should they win, it shall be your final hour
But you still have control of the fight
If they mess up, you might have a chance to destroy them
But is this the right path that you've taken?
Are your morals correct, or mistaken?
Are you sure you want to lose your mind
From a legend whose power could salvage mankind?
=Lament - Perspective of the Player=
You have known for certain
Your path is one of justice
All those who try to obstruct shall have paid the ultimate price
Yet, upon inspection
Your foe is overwhelming
But you remember what she tried to sacrifice
Signs of self-disappointment start infiltrating
(These putrid emotions begin to take control)
Symptoms of paranoia begin invading
(Such petty emotions have sabotaged your soul)
Your mental fortitude is fading
Losing trust, ending friendship, and rage escalating
Right on the road to your sadness
Watching closely as courage turns into madness
Are you sure you'd want to lose your life
From a witch who had caused you nothing but strife?
=Epiphany - Perspective of the world=
The end has come;
The witch and the prophecy
Deciding fates with the world on the line
Who shall emerge
From the ashes of calamity?
How shall this fable end through these legends intertwined?
End of reasoning
Carnage and pain
A feral sense of dominance
As all the blood melts into the rain
A clash of history
In blood, sweat and tears
This war will cause our world to change
And will be remembered through the years

@WildeRaze isnt it sung in old English or something?
@@crystalknight9373 they use a program to synthesize the choir and it may pronounce it the way they used to in Old English
What’s funny about interlude 3 is that it perfectly matches up to Stain Brutal Calamity, as if its the music that plays over a montage of everything that happens after defeating Yharon, like collecting the necessary materials, crafting Supreme Calamitas’s summon, and even building the arena (which is basically just 1 wooden platform lmao).
Also to note, most Calamity osts don’t have an ending, usually a fade to nothing kind of way, heck, Yharon’s theme simply repeats twice probably due to a mistake in editing. But Stain Brutal Calamity has a clear ending, while Acceptance can be seen as interlude 4, or epilogue, as by the time this section of the song starts playing, the witch has already been defeated, only giving out one final monologue about the big bad. It’s poetic that the current final boss of the mod is one of, if not the only, theme that has an ending.
Don’t forget about Draedon’s motif as well.
The true calamity was the wedge that was driven between DM Dokuro and the Calamity fandom. He definitely deserved better, but we never really deserved him...
Thanks for taking the time to listen to the Calamity soundtrack, it's been really fun to watch.
He was too good. Everyone just gone mad after hearing this masterpiece.
I enjoyed very much your video, you have such an incredible talent with violin.
Now if i could kindly ask if you could check an ear to the Add-On Wrath of the Gods for Calamity, it has such amazing songs and bossfight, i think it would make some of our fellow calamity fans have a great time watching you once again.
Nice video as always, take care :]
Wow!! Thank you so much for your support!
DM Dokuro did not deserve all the pressure people put on him, but with all of this he still created such a masterpiece.
He's such an inspiration and i hope he's doing well wherever he is now.
Since I'm early, I might as well leave a little comment explaining something. The melody at 4:53 is one that DM Dokuro initially created to be associated with a boss that was at the time unreleased, Draedon's Exo Mechs. Since his fight is meant to be fought at the same place in progression as Supreme Calamitas, you can also hear the strings from her theme(s), meaning the interlude is actually teasing the two main threats that remain. As DM Dokuro left the project before the release of the Exo Mechs fight, the theme for the fight fell to other artists and as such it's unfortunately not part of the Tale of a Cruel World/Raw, Unfiltered Calamity album, but if you happen to cover the other tracks that have made their way to the mod you might pick up on Draedon's motif. Either way this has been a very pleasant series to watch. Keep up the good work
I suppose catastrophic/inferior fabrications should be next on the list?t
as mentioned not DM Dokuro's work but its still great none the less
draedon's motif also shows up in Interstellar Stomper for a brief moment as well, which is really cool
Thank god for the fact that the people making the Draedon themes are actually keeping those motifs. Even PinpinNeon, the one behind the Infernum soundtrack, used those melodies.
@@foofgam220 yeah, i heard the motif and was like "oh isn't that draedon's motif from the exo mech fight?"
@@somedude4087 I'm pretty sure it would be better for him to cover Nightmare Fabrications since it's the official song, not out yet though
Pro tip: listen to Catastrophes Before the Calamity while your plane is taxiing.
foreshadowing is a literary device. It's purpose/meaning is to speak of/set up actions that may have relevance much later on in a story.
Oh boy. Here we go. The big one.
...I will always remember the day Stained, Brutal Calamity came out. And I wish it were for better reasons. The story of the personal connection I formed to this song upon its release is a long one that I shan't recite here fully (as I, frankly, believe this isn't the place for that). The short of it is that it came out exactly one week after the worst experience of my life. So imagine my surprise and my joy when this song comes out and is every bit as good as I thought it would be. Hell, even better in ways I wasn't expecting. That, my friends, forms an attachment, and it's how a song quickly becomes your favorite song in an OST. And how it stays there for five, going on six, years now.
If that's not a testament to the power of music, I don't know what is.
I remember randomly stumbling upon release video, it was long since i played modded terraria with some old mods, but this ost just sold me the mod, i remember even the comments were opened back then...damn good old times, still a shame that ones fragile egos ruin other fragile ego, but of a genius, but who knows, maybe without all this struggle Stained, Brutal Calamity wouldnt be as good. He left on a high note for sure
This song is seriously great for a final boss. Its a shame the community cannot appreciate a really good song that gives goosebumps.
You are nothing but a fly to be swatted. Bells are ringing. After ripping through the same world she destroyed so long ago, and more importantly killing her boss’s pet, you’ve become an annoyance. The fight has am incredibly brutal start, an incredibly fast and unforgiving bullet hell, most tries at the fight end during it. But when you persevere, when you find your way through her swarm of skulls, she has to start trying, and so the guitar comes in. You’re no longer just a fly to be swatted, it’s personal now. You finally get to start hitting her back, ticking her health down bit by bit, and you claw and scrape and fight for every second of the 12 minute long boss fight.
You keep clawing your way further and further, and suddenly the music feels different. The sections only progress when you get her health down to certain thresholds and the attacks keep getting harder and harder. But you keep getting further, and the music changes once again, because she’s scared, by the time DM DOKURO has started singing she’s trying so desperately to get you to give up. She’s furious you won’t stay down, and as soon as you clear that section the music has its most important change. It’s your theme now, it’s your bells, they herald your immanent victory. Because the end has come, the witch and the prophecy. She’s still fighting as hard as possible, you’re still clawing for more and more time, to be able to reach the end of the fight, to just have enough time to deal enough damage, but now she’s on the back foot, and you both know it. It keeps getting harder, it keeps getting more intense, the end of the fight has multiple persistent, run ending, and nearly unfair projectiles as she summons all her allies, uses huge and slow moving projectiles that take up almost half the arena and follow you around for the rest of the fight, and never lets up the onslaught of fireballs. But you’re so close, it’s only a matter of time at this point. She’s terrified, she’s pulled out all the stops and somehow you’ve persisted. She is the Crimson Witch, sinker of seas, curse of the hells, killer of gods, a one woman army who serves only the godking conquerer of galaxies.
But the player has killed gods too, and now she’s next. She’s witnessing and unstoppable force and as much as she likes to believe it she’s not an immovable object. She was like the player once, but she broke against the cruelty of that god emperor who took everything from her so long ago, the one who she has been fought on behalf of. Your bells won’t stop ringing, she’s tired, she’s tried everything. Your theme rings out forcefully once more, those bells that were once hers, that have been ringing for you since you entered this world.
It’s over. In the quiet section at the end she has stopped fighting.
She has accepted her loss, so she just talks to you for a little bit. She failed, she can’t return to her post as lieutenant, and if she just hides on some distant world from the godseeker she will surely die by his hand for her failure. She has been so filled with rage for so long, serving the same tyrant who killed her brothers. Perhaps this needed to happen, you’re different than her, you have a chance, Yharim will come but when he brings his armies perhaps you will finally do what she could not. Kill the Godseeker. But for now you rest, for now she does too. And when the day comes when Yharim finally arrives, she’ll help you finish what she failed to do all those years ago.
This is beautiful did you write this yourself

Great video, a little sad to see this series end, but the only other thing I can really say besides a great video this is, go check out DM DOKURO's other works, while none are nearly as well known as his calamity ost videos, he's made equally amazing tracks that while sorta break away from the style of music he did back then, still sound amazing, certainly worth a listen.

catastrophes before the calamity and stained brutal calamity are both in my top 5 favorite songs in the soundtrack catastrophes is probably the most underrated song in the ost and stained brutal calamity is just a complete masterpiece on every level it's so awesome to see you finally listen to the final magnum opus of the calamity mod soundtrack after all this time
Text of this one is a masterpiece on another level too. It's hard to hear everything without already knowing it, but probably you should read it for yourself. It's an ultimate Mountain Peak of Terraria Calamity's story. Brimstone Witch's thoughts about player.
SHE IS HERE !! !
Stained brutal calamity might be up there in terms of some of the best video game music ever produced, everything about it is just perfect
This 4 part symphony is nothing short of a masterpiece. I also love how it has a proper ending, even if it does have a gradual fade out since it's clear that the song has basically ended by the time the droning noise with occasional bells and piano starts. I personally imagine that if this were played in a real symphony hall, that that's when the lights would turn on, the players and singers would take a -bite- *bow,* and people would start leaving. It's not just an ending, but a great dénouement.
"Energized sadness?" I think I would probably describe it as "a fight you don't want to have, but have no choice to at that point."
Also the choir is the kind of thing you'd probably expect to hear Latin in, but in this case it's actually Ominous _English_ Chanting. My understanding is that the choir is synthesized, so that could explain why it's hard to recognize as English at first (unlike DM Dokuro's singing which is real and more obviously English).
Just saying, the orchestral line near the end “end of reasoning, carnage and pain, a feral sense of dominance, as blood melts into the rain” goes unreasonably hard.
I like that you pointed out the surprising mix of a traditional chorus and a modern bassline during the 3rd movement of Brutal Calamity, that's what makes Dokuro's music so special to me, his amazing understanding of classical tropes and music theory mixed up with modern more free-style elements gives the Calamity soundtrack this very distinct classically dramatic but modern metally vibes. Also, the quiet rythmic chorus before the climax gives me life, so there's that.
edit : Also, I love the analysis of Acceptance, that cave-y feel is on point and IMO is how it manages to feel so hollow and lonely, describing the end of this big war-scale fight well ! I didn't consider how the reverb added to it :)
Holy crap the violin pieces were amazing🙌🏼
the final part of the song, i believe, was specifically made that way for the lore of the calamity mod: once you defeat calamitas, the strongest - and most unstable - component of yharim's army, you only have one path: face him .
[Epiphany: Choir] *(last part of the song where you can hear choirs)*
The end has come;
The witch and the prophecy

Who shall emerge
From the ashes of calamity?
How shall this fable end through these legends intertwined?
End of reasoning

A clash of history
In blood, sweat and tears
This war will cause our world to change
And will be remembered through the years
the lore item you get when you slay calamitas and the exo mechs says:
You now stand at the brink of infinity. The power you have amassed is extraordinary.
Valor and deceit, truth and falsehood, loyalty and betrayal… you are beyond these notions.
You have rent all asunder as they crossed your path. The very land now bends to your will.
Do you not see how the grass parts where you step, how the stars illuminate where you gaze?
Terraria itself kneels to you, whether it be out of fear or respect.
This is the strength the Dragons held. The primordial power they commanded.
Little stands between us now. If you did not seek battle with me, I doubt you would have come so far.
When you are prepared: seek the grave of the Light, at the summit of the Dragon Aerie.
I await your challenge.
It is time!!! I've never been so hype for reaction as much as this before
I know you already stated your perspectives on reacting to non-vanilla Calamity tracks, but now that we've reached the conclusion of Dokuro's works, I feel it is necessary to recommend what, in my opinion, are the best Calamity-related tracks to listen to now, so in order:

- Catastrophic Fabrications (these two are the main ones I'd absolutely recommend)
- Zenith Fabrications
- Gluttonous Arbitration
- Viscous Desperation
- Twisted Garden

God, it's so upsetting that Dokuro was *this* close to doing the Exo Mechs before the Calamity Community stepped over the line. I would have absolutely loved to see what he did with them. Sneaky, but tragic, because it feels like the summary of Dokuro's entire journey composing Calamity soundtracks, especially that last line.
The wait for this video was definitely more than worth it
at 23:45 the reason why the music doesn't just stop is because she (the witch) doesn't want to die so she accepts (hint hint) that you beat her because you don't kill her she just sees that she herself is getting weaker so she stops fighting you.
in 'catastrophe before the calamity' you get all the important leitmotivs. Calamitas, Draedon and Yharim.

Not only is the song absolutely amazing, its value increases so much when you actually play through the game and beat SCal. Its like you relate to the music now, knowing you took her down.
Love this song, I think out of everything dm made, the surpreme calamitas theme may be my favorite! If I may, I highly reccomend giving the boneworks soundtrack a listen! Either way I love your content man ❤
I think one of the cool things is Calamitas is not a bad guy and feels bad for what she has done and wants the evil to be gone and her fight is less a fight to end her but to show that maybe you as the hero can finally free the world from the grasp of a evil god. I think the song portrays that well.
I understand why Dokuro wouldnt want anything to do with Calamity anymore but I hope these videos can give him some happiness and positivity connected to the songs and masterpieces he made.
For me this is the best interlude, you can even use it for the main menu music
Every time i start to play calamity again i have to hear this in the menu till the end
Basically pre calamity ritual
i would love if calamity devs take the unofficial EXO mechs theme "Catastrophic Fabrications" to the official because is so sick
Glad to see you liked the Calamity OST! It has a very special place in my heart.
By the way, I think you'd like Itoki Hana's music! Especially the things she worked with Toby Fox on, like "73" and "The Greatest Living Show"
decided to fully watch this calamity music series again in one sitting, crazy
Thank you!
"So the composer was on crack while making the music?"
"Officer, the music is the crack"
what a journey no? to this day I still enjoy listening to this entire soundtrack, it brings a ton of nostalgic memories
Though all the official Dokuro made songs are done now, there are still several that you should give a listen. There are several scrapped songs by Dokuro (my personal favorite being Blessing of the Moon), as well as by now quite a few songs made by other composers, like engineer's sanctum or the boss rush themes. I would love to see you give them a listen!
Your music box arrangements of Calamity sound very beautiful.
This us actually the only song that doesn't repeat itself
This calamitous journey of music was amazing to watch. I also always love your violin improvs at the end of your analyses, how it builds off of the original music and brings a whole new flavor to it that I absolutely love. I would absolutely die for full length improv covers of these songs because it just sounds so new and unique!! ❤
im so incredibly invested in the character known as draedon whos theme sneaks its way into many tracks

Remember this lietmotif when you move on to the Infernum soundtrack. Trust me, it's important.
Something that came to mind off the back of you mentioning your love of gothic style music was the thought that you might love the soundtrack of Darktide.
in the lore that I know of, it kind of was a death of calamitas still. even if we spared her, everything she knew was challenged, and she realized she had not only been in the wrong as her creeping doubts had said, but that she of all people had a chance to even try to make things right if she took the side of someone who seems to just fight everything for the pure reason of fighting
YOOO I haven't played that much calamity mod yet but i did a full album listen during school and let me just say i have been bopping that on shuffle whenever i need music to listen to. Stained brutal calamity is definitely a highlight on the album so its nice to see it here!
I absolutely loved seeing and hearing your reactions to this absolutely amazing soundtrack, it has to be one of my favorite soundtracks out there, and with this soundtrack finally coming to an end, id like to recommend you my #1 soundtrack, which belongs to one of the kingdom hearts games. The entire series has amazing music that realllly tugs at your heart strings if youre familiar with the story and you can here leitmotifs throughout many of the songs due to the connections that the main characters have with each other. I think it is among the best video game soundtracks out there and i can not recommend it enough. Please check it out in the near future!
Fun fact: the last part of the "Catastrophes before the Calamity" was called nightmare fabricator and has been used 3 years later on all of the Draedon's motifs out there, back in the day the name "Catastrophes before the Calamity" has no mean, but today this catastrophes are the Exo Mechs with the name of its song being Catastrophic Fabrications.
And yeah before i forgot, you will make videos for the others Calamity musicians?
when I fought the boss for the first time, I was surprised by a lot of things, such as: It was the first boss that was almost the size of a player (human), a whole ton of projectiles were flying across the screen, and in order to die you just need to touch 2 in a row, and on top of that, This masterpiece is playing in the background. (The boss also had dialogues that were written in the chat, so I had to be torn between concentrating on the boss so as not to die, listening to this masterpiece, plus reading and translating the dialogues)
Erm... Actually lunatic cultist is also the exact same size as a player🤓☝️
Unless you’re talking about only calamity bosses and not both vanilla and calamity
I always hope he watches these types or videos and smiles and will ever realize his music is so good that it out outweighs the negativity and he shouldnt give into it and ignore the community and never interact with them and when his somgs get done they get done. We miss him. And we all know heisnt coming back but it would be a dream come true if he did even if it was just for yharims theme if he was secretly working on it in the background
I have been waiting for this reaction for months. Glad to see it.
Damn… that thumbnail for “Catastrophes before the calamity” perfectly illustrates what the fandom was like from DM Dokuro’s perspective.
Here we go, we've reached the climax
a goddess in her own right tired of fighting
and the hero who she trust to continue her fight
As expected, it was absolutely worth the wait :D
Dam
Wasnt able to watch it the moment
Upload was finished in here
And youtube just decide to not
Notify about this vid me
IRL stuff got me no time for youtube
I was busy doing something not that cool
But now I can go watch you react
To the best theme in gaming that I ever heard
This song is such a masterpiece it is almost criminal that it was made just for a free mod for a niche game. I would have loved to have this go bigger with something. It definitely deserves more widespread recognition for this magnum opus
Man that Dancing Mad reference really brings it home for me. Favorite composition of all time. And that calamity is on that level? Makes me seriously disappointed I only have Terraria on Console
WE MADE IT! But on a serious note, SPG, thank you. I think it's safe to say I speak for everyone here when I say you did Calamity's soundtrack the justice it deserves. I'm glad you enjoyed listening to (and deconstructing) it as much as we do, and I'm sure you can see now more than ever, why DM Dokuro has such a loyal and passionate following.
I have never gotten to a video of yours that fast 😂
lmao that pfp
We got some certified calamiters in this chat
