fun fact: the rev (the drummer) has an incurable heart condition (enlarged heart) and was told that he might live until 30. he actually wrote a song called "fiction" 3 days before he passed away, in the lyrics he wrote "promise me you'll never feel afraid" like a message for the rest of the band. and in this song "so far away", they said "sleep tight, i'm not afraid" in respond to the lyrics the rev wrote for them, their way of saying "its okay brother, rest in peace, we promise we're not going to feel afraid". 😭

U have to realize that there drummer was top 5 drummers to ever exist! He wrote many of the bands hits. An absolute insane musician! We are truly missing out on great musician with his passing. He was the heart and soul of the band.
This song is dear to my heart. My son Bobby was a guitarist and founding member of his band. He passed away at age 25 and the band dissolved after that. They released one final album with the songs that were recorded at the studio just prior to his death. It was a Washington State band called Sally's Army and the last album was titled Confessions From The Coffin. And you are absolutely right about being able to look back on the footage for special memories and I'm thankful that they exist. There are lots of videos of my son playing with his band and I often look at them when I want to see him. He was an amazing young man and just like the Rev, he was loved dearly by his bandmates and friends and many many other people. R.i.p. Bobby Scanlan and Jimmy Sullivan, maybe you can have a jam session together up there.

Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater stepped in to honor the Rev, and help Avenged Sevenfold finish the album and tour that album until they could find another drummer. Check out "Fiction" by A7X. He turned it in to them, 3 days before he passed. It's the song The Rev wrote entirely, as he wrote a majority of their songs. The organ, the drums, the lyrics, are his. The vocals have his original demo vocals. It's his goodbye song.

This song was awesome before, but after my brothers passing, it became so much more. It came on the radio one day not long after my brother passed on the way home from work and I had to pull over and just sob. It's been almost 7 years and the song still gets to me. Thats when you know the artist has done an awesome job.

My buddy got badly hurt from crows surfing at their show in Jacksonville FL couple years ago. Some people tossed him the air and he come down on the pavement on his head and neck. He got rushed to the hospital to have surgery on the front and back of his neck.
So true about relating to vocals and relying on certain lyrics to help with the healing process. Certain parts of songs without vocals can do that for me as well. Legit just wanted to tell you how much I and any other A7X fan appreciate you for taking this seriously and understanding the impact this song has. A lot of us grew up with A7X and the band is one of very few that never had any changes in their line up. It was always the same 5 guys that grew up as brothers, when Rev died, we all felt it in one way or another. It honestly annoys me when I see reactions to this song and the people reacting dont seem to understand how impactful this is. Maybe its just not a good song to do reactions to but in your case I'm grateful to see at least one person understands this is something the band did for themselves and their fans to help remember the Rev and give us all closure.
Well my cousin died tragically in a hit and run, other cousin who raps made a song about him, its definitely nice to have something that makes you think of them again and again.
As painful as it is to remember sometimes, you’re definitely right. It’s worth the bit of pain to remember those times. This is why I hope and have faith for heaven and an after life, life’s too short and messed up to be the end of the road at death.

So true about relating to vocals and relying on certain lyrics to help with the healing process. Certain parts of songs without vocals can do that for me as well. Like a particular guitar solo, Melody or arrangement. Some instrumentals are bold enough to make the statement or convey the message without lyrics. Ahh The power of music. RIP Jimmy Sullivan.

This song is my favorite song from Avenged Sevenfold. Even though they're known for their heavier sound, they have also proven countless times that they have what it takes to go to a deeper sound and a slower sound.

Legit just wanted to tell you how much I and any other A7X fan appreciate you for taking this seriously and understanding the impact this song has. A lot of us grew up with A7X and the band is one of very few that never had any changes in their line up. It was always the same 5 guys that grew up as brothers, when Rev died, we all felt it in one way or another. It honestly annoys me when I see reactions to this song and the people reacting dont seem to understand how impactful this is. Maybe its just not a good song to do reactions to but in your case I'm grateful to see at least one person understands this is something the band did for themselves and their fans to help remember the Rev and give us all closure.

Well my cousin died tragically in a hit and run, other cousin who raps made a song about him, its definitely nice to have something that makes you think of them again and again.
As painful as it is to remember sometimes, you’re definitely right. It’s worth the bit of pain to remember those times. This is why I hope and have faith for heaven and an after life, life’s too short and messed up to be the end of the road at death.

But they do and put up a flat and show him some love it’s a wonderful song and I believe either the only or first that the guitarist actual wrote the words for and the vocalist usually has a hat and sunglasses but here no one is doing a character it’s not an act it’s a loving tribute that hits hard man
They weren’t just in a band they grew up together went to school for music together dreamed of being in a band and made it happen
Syn is seriously one of my favorite guitarists he’s studied in jazz improvisation and seems like a genuinely nice dude they got a lot of crap on early albums for sloppy playing but really grew as talented artists
And this album nightmare is a masterpiece
This one always hits me in the feels. You gotta hear Bat Country by them, a tribute to Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas. Also, Almost Easy is a really good one, and The Beast And The Harlot has an epic guitar solo/duet!🤘
