- In this video, John Reardon presents a selection of exquisite 18K white gold Patek Philippe watches and explains why pieces of this noble metal are quite rare in Patek Philippe’s historical offerings. Patek Philippe initially offered white gold as a less expensive option to platinum, which could triple the cost of a watch. However, white gold watches were made in limited numbers and we often see these pieces fetch more than other gold types or even platinum in some cases. John also explains what mixture of alloys create 18K white gold, and why watches made of this metal are often plated in rhodium to maintain a unique shine.

Love these videos John! Always such good information! Thank you
Thank you for your kind comment. We are happy you enjoy the videos!
What fantastic watches - thank you for sharing them and educating as you go. Not wishing any disrespect to the modern brand (I do own modern Patek), when I see Pateks from the 1950s to the '90s, I can help but think their modern equivalents are simply less beautiful. Slim, unobtrusive, restrained and pure, the back catalogue is sublime. I suppose the answer is to get into vintage but nonetheless, the lack of elegance in the modern range does concern me.
You hit the nail on the head with that observation.Ive thought the same thing about the modern collection vs. these pieces we see on Collectability.
All gorgeous pieces. But this 2526 🤩
Thank you for your comment. Yes, the re. 2526 is special!
Always something to learn, thank you!
Definitely a "go to" TH-cam information/entertainment source worth watching over and over again.
Would love to see a video on the magazines and the neck tie history as well.
Thank you for your kind comment and we always welcome topic suggestions. Are you referring to the Patek Philippe Magazine? If so, you might find this article interesting that Tania Edwards wrote about the 25th anniversary of the magazine: collectability.com/learn/25-years-of-the-patek-philippe-magazine/
Could you explain what you mean by the 'neck tie history'? Thanks so much!
Thanks John…. Love the 5296!

John, wonderful video and great watches!! I am a bit curious. How should I know whether the current white gold models are plated?
New to your channel John, as always, your presentation along with your inventory is outstanding. Bravo..
Much appreciated, thanks for watching!
I had a white gold ellipse from 1969 - really beautiful understated thing.
A wonderful watch!
Great post! Does anyone know if the 5196g is rhodium plated or not?
Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, the ref. 5196G is rhodium plated.
Is the 2526 an enamel dial?
Born with a silvered 4 diamond dial as stated on the archive and currently has an enamel baton dial on it (both the original diamond dial and enamel dial are being sold with this watch).
Those master timing systems would look great if you got them iced out.
Interesting suggestion!
remarquable.
thank you!
