Praying you go through none of the 'nastiness' that is forecast, Kathleen. In regard to manual can openers, I have had a crank style opener that is very ergonomic for several years now. It is amazing! It cuts through the lid of a can faster than an electric can opener. I'm in my 70s and would not trade this opener for ANY electric one.
Stay safe! We have been having single digits and snow here and we always have a lot of stuff ready to go "just in case". I was really grateful that this year we got to upgrade our generator. Eventually I am hoping to have the add on hooked to the house that we can just plug it right into the house and it will power the whole house. Some Day! We usually only lose power when it drops to super cold but its nice to be ready no matter when it happens. Saving up for that.
I wish you all the best. I'll keep you in my prayers. I'm from Wisconsin and have experienced some dandy storms. It sounds like you are as prepared as you can be. There are some great suggestions in the comments. I enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work. Stay safe 🙏
I hav camp stoves and grilles that i cook on bout as much as my kitchen stove which is also propane. I also bought a couple of 12v hot pots during amaz days. I hav a KitchenAid manual can opener that works pretty good. Hav a fireplace and wood and also 2 12v electric blankets that i can use with my solar generaters. They dont use much wattage. Plus i bought 2 tent camp mini fireplaces i can set up n put chimeys out windows and seal around them. I get alot of outages. Blizzards and such in winter. Summer ones dont bother me. Hav solar lights (dollar tree) and goodwill oil lanterns(5.00)
You're a real planner! I need to take lessons from you. Please stay safe and let us know how its going if you can. Im hoping you and Chewy get to have some cozy days with no problems at all 😊
We’ve been having springlike weather here in central Texas. I’m not looking forward to the cold, but my fruit trees need the chill hours. Prayers for you and your son.
I have gas furnace with electric start. There's a great HVAC channel that shows how to bypass and run from a battery backup. I'm going to install that bypass.
You made me laugh when you said, you thought about shutting the shower off while your Son was taking a “too long “ of a shower! I would’ve loved to have had an app on my phone to shut the water off when my Son lived at home😂😂😂
For a five day outage with you and your pup for drinking, cooking, and cleaning 10 gallons of water would be best🙂 You’ve done a lot to prepare! It’s a process.
I would love to have that on my phone! I’d turn off the water just to hear my son swear! Can water in empty canning jars and store them on your shelves. I hope your son gets there safely.
May I ask what brand power pack you have? We have some solar which helps. One thing that has helped us was a small chest freezer, which we pack blankets inside which held in the cold for a week when the power had gone out. Can also work on the refrigerator freezer, by simply using heavy towels or a small blanket to fill any voids. There is a neat trick where you freeze an empty quart jar of water and place a nickel on the top of the frozen water and place the jar inside the freezer, cheat of upright. Then should the power go out and the freezer is NOT opened, when the power comes back on, check the jar and if the coin is on the bottom of the jar, it suggests that the water melted at some time and some food items may have thawed. This is where blankets and towels filling any voids/empty spaces can really help prevent any food thawing.
Hopefully you don't get such nasty weather, my area hear they took out most all of the snow, but will be very cold nights, so I will have to leave my faucets run just a little to keep them from freezing, I hope all goes good for you
Tonight we are not getting snow supposedly. But temps in the low to mid teens are happening. But over next few days we are supposedly going to have snow and ice with highs in the daytime high 20’s to low 30’s at the max. We have to store water because we get our water from a well with an electric pump. So toilet will not work if electric goes out. So I keep several days of drinking water, and also fill up old 2 liter soda bottles and gallon jugs with water to flush toilet with. Even with no snow, we are having wind storms which does take out our power. And that has already started.
It sounds like you have good plans in place. Wishing you all the best 👍
I pray your power stays on and you are able to stay warm and safe.

MyLittleRealities whole house propane/natural gas generators are the norm in my area of the California Sierras.
Keep us posted when you can.
Sorry you had such a bad leak. You made a good decision fixing things.
Thanks
👍✌️ . Stay safe .
If it goes on for too long, some of your food would probably stay good just putting it outside if it’s cold enough to snow.
Yeah, but then I'd have to go out in the cold lol
Hi, I really enjoy your informational videos, in the real honest style you have. I too as a widow have tried to prepare to be

Say, what do you do for heat?
I have gas furnace with electric start. There's a great HVAC channel that shows how to bypass and run from a battery backup. I'm going to install that bypass.
warm clothes and blankets. Before I retired I thought about putting a wood stove in but never did it.
Your making all the right moves to secure your health and safety
Sounds like you are prepared! I'm in West Virginia, we are supposed to get 8+ inches here...

Keep safe. Hope you’re not impacted too badly.
Thank you
Stay safe 😊
Can you recharge it from your car or solar?
Yes, both. I attempted to do the solar but it was cloudy and raining so it didn't work out too well.
You made me laugh when you said, you thought about shutting the shower off while your Son was taking a “too long “ of a shower! I would’ve loved to have had an app on my phone to shut the water off when my Son lived at home😂😂😂
😁
We have snow here in Indiana but no ice yet. I am just staying put until tomorrow.
I hope it stays that way for you. Stay warm!
