I love your pure openness and honesty. I feel the same about the state of our world. It can really make a person grieve over humanity. Your channel is a positive way to share with others and benefits us all.
Have you considered opening each video with an introduction like " Hello Again, I'm Kathleen and I'm Trying To Be Frugal" Join me!

Kathleen, thank you so much for telling us about your gardening experiences. I asked you about the pros and cons of using raised beds and appreciate that you even took time to research the subject! I got so tickled when you pulled out your boxes and bags of seeds. I'll bet I have some that are older than yours...and mine are in an old WalMart bag. I have started going through them and throwing some away. I'm getting older and would like to continue gardening on a smaller scale. I'm going to research Birdie Beds. It's snowing and cold where I live, so any thoughts of springtime and gardening are a blessing! BTW, it's fun to hear of your travel goals. You are wise to do your best to go as soon as possible. For most of us, travel becomes more of a challenge with every passing year. Thanks, again, for all the good info!

Hi, Kathleen. I’m in Tulsa. We are supposed to have 4-6 inches of snow. It’s a nice change for us: we usually get ice or sleet. I have raised beds too. I thought I’d mention if you pull back your dirt and put straw under it, and place the dirt on top, the straw will retain some water and help in droughts. Oklahoma is very hot and dry in the summer, and shade cloth and ways to help with moisture retention is a must.
I understand your desire to travel while you can. I hope you get to. Have fun.

I use straw and grass from my front yard to mulch. It does help some.

@ this is a layer under the dirt . It captures a lot of water, and the dirt over it protects it from evaporation. The plants dig deep for the water. Of course I use mulch on top too. I can go on vacations and water them just before I leave and it helps me have a garden when I come back

I thoroughly enjoyed this video, Kathleen! Thanks for sharing. I have to admit that I got such a kick from the 'going through my seed packets' part of the video. All I can say is "I don't feel so bad now....!" 😏😁😘🥰 I can completely identify! Blessings from a very sunny, but cold, Ontario, Canada. We're in for some snow tonight.

Dont beat yourself up over the many garden seeds you have. I think your idea of testing them is the way to move forward. Then store them organized by type of seed in order of year. Enjoy this snowy time to plan and prepare for the lovely garden you will have full of veggies and flowets!

I used to have six 4' x 8' garden boxes that were 22" tall. I could sit in a lawn chair and garden without bending so much. I used straw as a mulch after planting seeds and small plants to help keep the moisture in. Shredded paper can add to the soil too as an amendment. My seed boxes looked like yours do until I sorted out the seeds by the botanical family name. I made cardstock or cardboard dividers to separate the families. It became much easier to look for a specific seed that way and it didn't take long to see what I had and what needed to be bought for the upcoming year. I lumped all the flowers together to make it easy on myself.

And we'll try to remind you to plant them this spring!
(And when we remind you, could you please remind US to do the same?! ) because we all forget these "simple " things!
I'm excited for you to travel hopefully soon, it's something I want to do as well but I don't want to go alone. We were coast guard for 30 years, so 30 years of traveling but not for pleasure. Now retired, but hubby is happy NOT traveling, I've been at home for 30 yeasts, now I want to travel. Bummer. He had all the vacations, and I baby sat. My turn........ sorry, ranting! See! We all do that too!
We'll remind you of the seeds! 😊

Thanks. I know a lot of people don't like to travel. My dad was one of them, can't really blame him, he was in the Navy for almost 30 years and had gone all over the world. I have been to a lot of places but still want to see more. I've lived in Kentucky the longest and have thought about moving so many times. Doesn't seem natural to stay in one place for so long.

@kathleensmith6200 I didn't grow up military, but I joined the Coast Guard in 79. That's where I met my husband. He was in for 30 years. I miss moving and traveling.
You were in the air force? My granddaughter is going into the air force, she's studying for her test now. STUDYING FOR HER TEST?! We didn't get to STUDY for our test!

@@janetadams7259 I didn't know you could study either. Yes, was in the Air Force for 7 years. Part of me wishes I had stayed in for at least 20. My life would've been much easier but I wouldn't have my kids. Good luck to your granddaughter

@kathleensmith6200 thank you. I'm very glad she chose the Air Force, sorry to see her go though, we're close.
I wish I had stayed in the Coast Guard too, but I would have missed out on being home with my kids, and I'm great full for that opportunity!

I'm saving to travel too. I have a trip scheduled to Panama in March. Going with a girl friend that I met when I lived in VA. You should go to Maine. It is a beautiful state. I recommend driving up US route 1all the way . Go to Arcadia National Park. I love Maine. Happy travels.

I meant to tell you that I think adding the logs to the bottom of a raised bed makes sense. It reminded me of Hugelkultur. If you have time, it's interesting to read about.

It is hard when we lose our pets. I last 6 months to 1.5 years before adopting another so far.
My 80 year old mom has been going with senior groups when she travels for about 10 years now. There’s all kinds to many places, perhaps you might enjoy that🤔
We all have older seeds😂, it’s always surprising how long some last to me!

I usually put the exact date on whatever I buy, such as groceries. I also place a date on my garden seeds (from the date the seeds were delivered) just to keep track of how old items are getting.
I cannot grow onions from seeds, even after trying a few times. Nothing survives the summer.
