I feel like no one's talking enough about how Adaine's sister walked into a party and straight snorted a line of fantasy coke off a teenager's bare chest less than a minute after arriving.
I mean kind of, she's been off screen, for lack of a better term, most of the story so far feels like this anger is more of a character choice from the player.

The phrase "kung-fu philosopher ghosts" would be the absolute highlight of any other D&D podcast but in this one it's just one more bit of delicious flavour. There's a legit wizard duel happening upstairs, a band made of confused horny teens fighting elementals in the garden and a pirate jock riding a posessed motorcycle in circles while on fire.

Writing is a part of world building... but certainly not all of it. world building isnt just "fleshing out an environment" ...it about making a world where things are *happening* and observant players can affect them... on the tiniest of clues. its allowing players to walk through a world that, if they paid enough attention (since everything a DM uses as a descriptor without player prompting is important... or they wouldnt say it) they could see clues WAY earlier than being led by the hand to them. The book... it is, while in the restricted library, the KEY to the school's defenses. Instead of putting it back, the VP has t taken (not taking charge of t himself) to the principal's office. That session 1. A FAR more than trivial clue. it is a pivotal campaign plot hinging clue. Introduced in the first hour. THAT is pro level epic world building. how paranoid is a player? how much attention are they paying? Most of us... not much. not really. details escape... but thats what its all about. If you dont think that is world building.. i feel a bit sad for your players if you run table.

I love that Fabian went insane with fear, dives his flaming bike into the pool, and just fucking crits on his first action in 3 turns. It didn't lead to much, but Fabian is the best. He's come a long way from tripping over lunch tables.

i’m many years late to this, but can we talk about the insane amount of set up - pay off and forshadowing in this series? not only from brennan since he’s the only one that can really plan that type of stuff, but from the players too. Adaine finally landing a punch on her sister after missing the first few times in the very first episode is actually some shit straight from a real life T.V show, with a team of writers, this just happened and i’m so obsessed
it’s well and truly so satisfying how they pay off the little things in this series (and even further, how s2 pays off so many random bits of lore that get mentioned in this season)
Im in love with the parallels in this episode to the first one. Missing both punches, then landing a hit straight away. Having hideous laughter easily backfire on to her, and now finally hitting her with it at a critical moment

quasar nova I think they had half miniatures for all the cast for when they get into the pool. We only saw Kristen and Fabian pool minis though. Also adaine has a new mini and of course there is the Fabian riding a motorcycle mini
I still can't get over the fact that Fig missed a chance to become a bardbarian by multi classing she is after all taking barbarian classes so why not start adding barbarian occasionally when she levels up
The synergize really horribly. Its almost an anti synergy. You CAN do it, but it inly really works on a dedicated grappler build or really specific combat builds focused on precasting nonconcentration combat buffs

Yeah in the cafeteria fight they were dropping like flies. It took only two or three hits to take some of them down. I'm 90% sure Brennan was planning on a few of them dying, an was counting on using that phoenix egg deus ex machina.

@@Miglow Previously he’d been running 3.5 for a long time. I believe this was mentioned in an Adventuring Academy maybe? You can tell sometimes by certain things they get wrong. Things like a Thieves tools check and how many rages Gorgug has at level one.
Can we just appreciate the fact that when Christen wanted to know what her guardians looked like, cause she had no idea who she was, Brennan, on the spot, improvised the perfect answer?

proper world building, if attention is paid to details, has all the clues there for multiple adventures... a full campaign worth... and those clues may be sitting there in plain sight for YEARS.
Writing is a part of world building... but certainly not all of it. world building isnt just "fleshing out an environment" ...it about making a world where things are *happening* and observant players can affect them... on the tiniest of clues.
its allowing players to walk through a world that, if they paid enough attention (since everything a DM uses as a descriptor without player prompting is important... or they wouldnt say it) they could see clues WAY earlier than being led by the hand to them.
The book... it is, while in the restricted library, the KEY to the school's defenses.
Instead of putting it back, the VP has t taken (not taking charge of t himself) to the principal's office.
That session 1. A FAR more than trivial clue. it is a pivotal campaign plot hinging clue.

THAT is pro level epic world building. how paranoid is a player? how much attention are they paying? Most of us... not much. not really. details escape... but thats what its all about.

i’m many years late to this, but can we talk about the insane amount of set up - pay off and forshadowing in this series? not only from brennan since he’s the only one that can really plan that type of stuff, but from the players too. Adaine finally landing a punch on her sister after missing the first few times in the very first episode is actually some shit straight from a real life T.V show, with a team of writers, this just happened and i’m so obsessed
it’s well and truly so satisfying how they pay off the little things in this series (and even further, how s2 pays off so many random bits of lore that get mentioned in this season)
Im in love with the parallels in this episode to the first one. Missing both punches, then landing a hit straight away. Having hideous laughter easily backfire on to her, and now finally hitting her with it at a critical moment
brennan has single-handedly redeemed adaine's character flaws through yet even more ingenious narrative

quasar nova I think they had half miniatures for all the cast for when they get into the pool. We only saw Kristen and Fabian pool minis though. Also adaine has a new mini and of course there is the Fabian riding a motorcycle mini

I still can't get over the fact that Fig missed a chance to become a bardbarian by multi classing she is after all taking barbarian classes so why not start adding barbarian occasionally when she levels up
The synergize really horribly. Its almost an anti synergy. You CAN do it, but it inly really works on a dedicated grappler build or really specific combat builds focused on precasting nonconcentration combat buffs
