    I was getting ready to take my X-Maxx to the repair shop because the steering was not turning far left and also moving on its own when truck was when truck was just parked. After performing this step on your video tightening the screw 🙏😄👍 Back to new again. Thanks a bunch !!!!!!

    Just done this made it steer a little better as the screw was loose. Probably upgrade the servo though as it seems poor for a 1/5 scale. Thanks for the vid

      Thx buddy...I also put an extra coil in the spring to make the steering more positive. It has been working well. Ive still got the stock servo in mine with these mods.

    The servo saver is just a spring and the spring just gets weak so you might need to get a new one or just add a washer or it might be lose

      @@inspiredrc thanks. If I tighten the screw right down does it mean I could damage the servo if I crash?

    • @inspiredrc
      @inspiredrc  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @BigCheese85 yes buddy. The servo is there to take some of the shock from heavy steering and crashes. Don't tighten it all the way it needs some slack. As I said mines been fine... I'm still using my original steering servo after 3 yrs.
      It just a case of tightening a little then test it. Your steering will never be prefect because the traxxas stock servo isn't the best but you should be able to make it better. Have a look at my servo in the vid and try to match it....

    pretty much a no brainer also depending on your driving style and most xmaxx owners have a driving style that dictates.. 2085X servo upgrade, im running trenchers so i guess my opinion is a little biased.

    Bro do your self a favor from one xmaxx owner to another you definitely need to upgrade to a 2085x servo kit and also the traxxas 7748x steering toe links, the best advice I can give you, then you'll see a deference

    I drive this truck at construction sights. They are all dirt, sand, rocks, and other fine grit to chew away at all wear points. I went through 2 sets of gears because of the servo saver being to tight by far. And when you add dirt and grit in between the sliding surface of the servo saver, the servo saver binds up and will not rotate even after I take it out and take off the spring. I can squeeze the servo saver together with my fingers, a very light squeeze and the servo saver won't rotate and do nothing to protect my servo. I have used two sets of metal gears in my servo. Today it lasted 10 min.. This is a truck and should handle dirt and not only be able to drive on grass or concrete. So far I have a all metal steering system because everything has broken. All due to this servo saver bound up / not rotating multiple times. My question is, is there anything that is sold that will stop the servo saver from getting dirt on it? I'm about to put a rubber tube over it. Since the servo saver is metal and after 10 min. the thing is all chewed up I either need to buy a new one or polish it then grease it and some how protect it from any dirt. I advise anyone do NOT get the metal one. The aluminum just gets chewed up like I to a chisel and hammer to it. I could sure use some feed back. Thank you

    • @inspiredrc
      @inspiredrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi I'm sorry to hear about the issues your having... I had something similar with my pinion and spur.. no matter what gears I used the gears would strip. It turned out to be a seized bearing. Traxxas bearing are rubbish. I know the steering system has 2 bearings. It wouldn't hurt to check them.
      The first thing I would do is test and eliminate possible causes. If you steering servo saver is loose then you would not have positive steering action if the saver is too tight then the servo would not have any protection. Aluminium parts won't flex and can send any impacts straight to the first plastic part in the chain.
      I would remove the link to the servo saver and check the steering linkage is moving freely. Ad some wd40 or grease to get free smooth movement.
      Adding a rubber cover over the saver would stop debris from entering. It may be a good idea.
      I personally prefer to use the original plastic parts over aluminium just because traxxas have tested and passed their parts prior to it going to market. They would have tested on all types of surfaces.
      I've recently used my rig on a dirt bmx track where it got covered in grit and sand. My original servo and servo saver was fine. I've got a vid on that bash on my channel.
      I am surprised you rig is giving you so much issues.
      Tbh without seeing the steering in action its hard to say what it could be.
      If your on Facebook there is a group called traxxas support. Here you can upload a quick vid and ask questions. This group has helped me lots in the past. Its definitely worth a visit.
      Have you contacted traxxas yet? It may be an idea to do so. You never know the front chassis section could be warped or defomed which could mean the linkage could be binding.

    Can you explain how the servo spring works exactly?

    • @inspiredrc
      @inspiredrc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Its best to see it in action to understated but here goes... The servo saver acts as a shock absorber for the steering servo. The spring controls the amount of absorption. If the spring is loose then your rc with show weak turning. If it is too strong then although you will have good steering. It will reduce the lifespan of the steering servo.. Most servo savers have a screw or washers to help adjust the strength of the steering. In my case even after tightening the screw it wasn't enough so I added a an extra coil to my spring. Now the spring is stronger but not too much as to kill my servo. it is a case of trial and error.... i hope this helps.

    I’m not positive, but I believe that center screw - that was the subject of this whole video - is simply there to initially hold the servo-saver spring down (in place) so that the top gray bracket (with 4 screws) can be installed. The bracket is what is actually supporting (pressing down on) the servo saver spring and that is why it has bearings on it. In other words, that center screw could come completely loose, but it won’t matter because the top bracket is what is sandwiching everything together. The center screw is pretty tiny because it’s only job is to temporarily hold the servo-saver together before installing bracket. Just my thoughts. If Traxxas felt that the owner would need to “adjust” the servo saver screw, it would probably be in the manual...but there is no mention at all about it.

    • @inspiredrc
      @inspiredrc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I found by adding another coil into the spring has done the gob well. Ive had it like this for months and had no issue with. Initially the steering was fine but as I bashed it the steering became weaker. My first thought was to see if that screw had backed off under heavy repeated impacts. Hence why I checked and tightened that first inn this vid and then went to stage 2 of the steering fix. Check out some of my recent bashing vids. I show you how good the steering is now👍

      I think you're right but there is a lot of stress on the grey plastic unit without that screw to tension the spring. I installed the 2085X and tried to get the higher tension spring in but stripped the thread of that screw just trying to get it in. The solution was a longer screw which i temporarily swapped for one of the 2 horizontal side screws you need to remove the get the front end detached. Just FYI I see some people use a thicker and longer gauge screw and drill right through. My steering issue is i'm now on the THIRD 2085X servo. they just die on me. not the gears (since my son is in the light use area on training mode) really annoying so i'm here as i ad this issue before also.

      Hi. I had a similar problem. If tightening the screws doesn't help then try step 2. In this step I add another ring to the spring to add more pressure to the spring. Here is the step 2 video....
