Hyper Dyne Side Arms (サイドアーム) is a 1986 side-scrolling shoot-'em-up arcade game developed by Capcom. The player takes control of a flying mecha suit who must battle an alien army. Side Arms uses a two-directional attacking system similarly to Capcom's previous shoot-'em-up Section Z.
    Plot
An evil alien empire known as the Bozon are launching a full-scale attack on Earth. As either Lt. Henry or Sgt. Sanders, the player must pilot a giant space mecha known as a "Mobilsuit" to defeat the aliens. Up to two players can play simultaneously.

The MS DOS CGA version is so close to the arcade original, I had to double check which version I was watching. Silky smooth, amazing sound.

I had this on my 512k IBM Compatible, back when the floppy disks were actually floppy! It looked and sounded just like in the video, except about half the speed. Good times!

Used to spend hours on this game at local gala traveling fair. My top score was still there when the fair came back a year later !

The Before Christ mode in the PC Engine CD-ROM2 version is different in many areas compared to the normal mode. Different colors, sprites, etc. It would've been more appropriate to show that mode rather than Normal since Normal is more similar to the HuCard version than BC is. :)

This is certainly an obscure one. Yet for some reason, I'm not surprised that it got ported to the major 80's home computers.

Having played this a lot at a local arcade and then getting it for the c64, I must admit I enjoyed it as much as the arcade. The c64 wasn't known for it's great conversions, but this one hit the spot.

If that plot is accurate and the name of the player mech is Mobilsuit, then the fact that capcom "borrowed" the images of the Zeon Zaku II and the Z'Gok at the minimum is even more ironic as the Zaku II, clearly seen at

TG16 and PC Engine CD are the best versions here. I'm surprised this game was even attempted on systems like the Amstrad and the Spectrum!
