    One thing that always sorta disturbed me was this. In the arcade The fighters were named after their weapon. Pole, star, nunchuck, chain, so on & so forth. But the 1st character in the MSX version is named wang. umm what's He fighting you with ?

    I played the MSX version sooooo much. Over and over again the same opponents who were getting more difficult up to level 15, after that the challenge was gone. I played until level 90 and then i had to quit because my mother was getting angry as they were waiting with dinner :)

    The MSX/Famicom version
    should've been *Yie Ar Kung Fu I.*
    The Arcade version should've been released later on as *Yie Ar Kung Fu II.*

      Shouldn't surprise you. The Colecovision was a pretty capable machine. This was a home brew version. Look up OpCode Donkey Kong if you want to see what the Colecovision was really capable of. You'll be shocked !

    • @TheLoveMario
      @TheLoveMario 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gaming History Source if you want to see what the colecovision WASN'T capable of. OPCode games uses their own expansion module that has a better video card, a RAM expansion and maybe a secondary sound chip
      and i heard they are also making a Colecovision 2 with the expansion module incorporated and maybe a few other enhancements IDK

    • @GamingHistorySource
      @GamingHistorySource  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MarioKart7z I'm aware of it. I've been fallowing it for quite some time. But expansion or not you have to admit. It's extremely impressive U demonstrates what the colecovision could do if properly utilized.

      Their Donkey Kong port is great. But the majority of the games are just straight MSX games ported to run in the ColecoVision hardware. So basically what you're seeing is an MSX1.

    Here's something hilarious i just found out about this game now from playing it on MAME: if you hit Buchu in JUST the right spot in the crotch while he's kicking, his pupils will dilate and he'll say "NI HAO!!" (Chinese for "HELLO!!") I have yet to know whether this works on any other characters or any other versions of the game. (i don't think it happens in the gba version though, cause i played that one to death before and never saw it) I also have no idea if many other people know about this, but I'm gonna try and record it happening because i don't think there is any video footage of it on TH-cam.

    I only played the Famicom/NES version of this game, when I discover what the actual Arcade version is like, I'm really surprised how different it is compared to the Famicom version. Can someone explain to me why the Famicom, MSX, Colecovision, and GameBoy etc are so different compared to the rest of the versions of the game? It can't be just limitations, everything is wierdly changed. The music, the background is just a dojo background(not different variety of backgrounds like Arcade version), character's names, it's only cut to 4 fighters. I mean I love the Famicom version of this game, I'm just confused why it turned out the way it did rather than be like it's Arcade counterpart.

      Gaming History Source Back when the NES came out in the US, I was still using my C64. My friend had one and I thought that some of the games looked like a step up from what I had. Looking at the games now, I'm surprised by how many of them I dislike. Many games used bland colors and had similar tinny music. The strange part is that I don't feel the same way looking at other old systems, only the NES.
      Also, the same (about being so much more) could be said about a lot of systems. If the designers had been given a little more time to work out the bugs, the C64 wouldn't have been saddled with such a slow disk drive. If they had spent just a little more money and connected the upper bits of its color memory, it could have displayed more colors closer together without programming tricks. If Commodore hadn't been staffed by arrogant, greedy idiots after Jack Tramiel left, they wouldn't bungled the handling of the Amiga so badly. If Tramiel hadn't canned all the projects at Atari to work on the ST line when he took over, the 7800 might have had a chance. :(

      +Gaming History Source "What if the NES had a 5.12 MHz processor and 1 MB of RAM?" and "What if the SNES had a 7.68 MHZ processor and 3 MB of RAM of which 1 MB is dedicated for the sound chip?" that's the questions we all have... some1 needs to make a NES 2 and a SNES 2 like OPCode games is making a Colecovision 2...

    Always loved the cover of this game, such a epic picture, remember when it came out when i was a kid and saw a massive poster of it in a shop advertising it thinking that looks bad ass! right up there with the Renegade and Green Beret cover.

    The speed of the MSX isn't quite right. The Coleco and Sega Saturn version is MSX at real speed.

      Actually the music is not an original from Galway but rather the SID version of Jean Michel Jarre's Magnetic Fields Part 4.

    This looks like a pretty interesting game to play. I remember the arcade version specifically was featured in an episode of Pawn Stars. Chumlee appeared to really have too much fun with the game lol
