Thank you for sharing.I just spent $9 at grocery store buying cherry set 3 the dark red and was highly disappointed they were half firm, half mushy and half sour and sweet. All of them in the grocery store here in Houston look like #3. How do I know which ones are sweet?? I have never seen the middle cherries åt any grocery in Texas.

Now i know what type of cherry tree we have in the backyard. Too bad its dwarfed by three plum trees. Cant wait for those or the grapes to come in.

He never said how to tell if the third cherry was ripe. I have a Tartan tree and I never know when to pick them. They are always tart but if I wait a long time they get sweet and then they disappear.

Damn, the reason I came was for the Montmorency cherries. But you just gave a history of them not how to tell if they are ripe.
Dude - the last batch of cherries you described "grown in Utah", you didn't even tell us how to tell when they are ripe! Those are the kind I grow.

Today my Rainier Cherry Tree produced One cherry I will eat it tomorrow now that I know that it is right
DO they continue to ripen off the tree? Or is that it when they are picked for sweetness? Should I sort the bag of cherries for the darkest and eat those first, letting the rest continue to ripen?
I have that same question.
