I have four types of Asian apple pear trees in my Arizona orchard and I love them: they are fully mature trees, and juice very well, or make pies or jams. They grow tall as most pear trees do, and require plenty of water, much like an apple tree does, but they are well worth the effort and their taste is SUPERB! My trees have been in the ground 19 years now. They begin to ripen in late summer, close to early September here in NW AZ.
Thank you so much for the video! I had an asian pear sitting in my hanging fruit basket for about 5 days confused whether it was ripe or not because I am used to normal ones getting mushy. As soon as I watched this I tried it with my boyfriend and they are sooo delicious! If you want to get asian pears cheap, Krogers has them sometimes for only 99 cents. I just wish my local one would restock their mangoes!
For gardeners koger sells cheap fruit pear peach and nectarine trees early spring. I bought a few trees last year and got 🍐 and 🍑 that year. Fyi. The tress were only 12.00.
I tried this before, but that was about a year ago. I didn't know they were called Asian Pears. I want to go get some now. Thanks for showing how they are ripe and ready, I really didn't know anything about it expect eating it.
I've got a couple of Asian Pear trees in our orchard. We moved here 3+ years ago not knowing what fruit would be on the trees. We've got 2 types of pears that I just finished using by making pear butter and bread. Since the weather is about to change to much cold nights and possibly some frost, plus the deer are starting to go after the fruit, I wanted to check to see if I could pick these Asian pears now or if I had to wait until they are all green. Sounds like I will be picking the fruit now, let it ripen if it isn't fully ripe and then enjoy as I create my next way of using my harvested fruit. Thanks for the knowledge about them!
Great video. I have a tree of these in my backyard but have never known what they are. Your description is exactly what I would have said. They are kind of like a crisp pear. So good to know that they are edible and that they store so well! Thank you!
I have a big bush with thorns and it grows like wildfire you can’t trim it enough in the summertime. I wouldn’t say it’s actually a tree more of a big full out of control bush if you don’t Trim them
glad the one I had this morning was ripe, and yeah, they are very apple-like. if I didn't know better, i'd probably class them as a cross-breed. firm and texture like an apple, but taste is like a pear. even the inside resembles an apple (with the core/seeds)
We have an Asian pear tree in our back yard and have never known what to do with them. We must have picked them too soon, because they were not sweet or juicy and tasted terrible. We tried harvesting them the same time as our regular pears and apples, but that didn't work. They were still green. Now I know what to look for.
Camille Parmenter and I just tried our first Asian Pear today. The flavor was fantastic. Much more light and delicate as you were saying but still very sweet and juicy. We were very impressed with them and will be looking at several other of your recommendations.
I planted a seed last summer and this year i have a beatifull little tree, its abought a foot tall and we prob wont get any fruit for a fue years .. cant wait
I tried one of these Pears a few months ago and i kinda get a light smokey or roasted taste from skin. I was just wondering if anyone else gets this undertone?
you are so knowledgeable and it shows it's nice to learn some of this but when I'm shopping in a store and I just need to know how to choose a ripe one maybe you could have a shorter version that is just straight to the point so I think I gather that the Asian pear do you want to choose them when they're brownish and they last a long time thanks so much
We have an Asian pear tree full of fruit in our back yard. I just did not know when to pick them. They are brown but still small. I think I will wait a while to see if they get bigger since it is only the end of August. Thank you for the informative video.
Those big Asian pears are juicy and delicious when ripe. Very unusual and unforgettable taste. These pears, and ripe Taylors Gold, have stolen my taste for basic Bartlett pears, although a good Bosc still finds its way into my cart.
Hello Mr. Produce Guy: Thank you for making these helpful and informative videos. My family and I love them. I was wondering ... DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN GET DURIAN FRUIT HERE IN THE USA? I live on the East Coast in Northern Maryland. I understand that it will need to be shipped to my house. Not a problem. Thanks again.
There's me slaving over a new channel :) and I thought you had taken a holiday. Gonna have to report you for resting :) Always good to see your videos. Have you ever had Wood Apples (Limonia). I lived in Sri Lanka for some time, where I had wood apples for breakfast. You would find them very interesting, they have a sort of Grainy Curd inside almost like a Pre Made Stewed Apple. Have a great week buddy. Steve
Agreed, he doesn't say how to tell if it's ripe. All he does is compare a more brown colored one to a more green colored one. I notice that he cuts open the more brown colored one and says how nice it looks. Based on that, I assume the more brown it is then the more ripe it is. So I guess brown is good, unless it feels mushy?
@@jasonmh Yes he did. When he compares the brown and green under-toned one, he mentions that the greenish one isn't ripe. Which means the brown colored one is ripe. Not hard to tell.
Since you're trying to inform the un-informed...a little information about variety may help on you next video. There's a lot of variety available especially since they're being grown more domestically. Looks like you have 3 different ones.
Not a very good video.. you never say when it's ripe! Will it continue to ripen after you buy it? If not, was it picked too soon and you shouldn't buy it at all? If that's they case why don't you tell us which ones to buy?
When its ripe its brown! When it has an undertone of green its not ripe. That was made clear in the video. Even when ripe the outside is still very firm to the touch so you can only tell by the colour. The texture does not change much, its not a soft fruit, even when ripe or over ripe, its still hard like an apple and crunchy. If brown, eat it down, if green, I dunno, on the kitchen counter let it lean LOL!
The texture of these is amazing! Super crisp but also incredibly juicy at the same time

I'd recommend placing them in the fridge when they are ripe. I find that I like them better when the are cold! :)

I had one of my fellow market vendors give me a couple Asian pears last weekend. I was impressed with its texture and flavor.
Thank you for sharing this info! I have the giant asian pear, and I live in Vermont. I think its time to harvest!
It's hard to tell about the Asian pears in the sweaters lol I did one and it was a bit too firm. I guess that is just how they are. Nice videos.

Thank ya for this video! I bought an Asian Apple and I wasn't sure about it at all

Nice video, what is the variety of the small yellow pear?
Bought a few of these at our local farmer's market and had never seen them before. Thanks for the information so I would know why to look for
When I was stationed in Japan the chow hall served them but they were big like a softball. I just bought one and I am waiting for it to get ripe.
I’m eating one as you speak. They are delicious.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💯
thanks for explaining this. someone just gave me an apple pear as a gift. i didn't know when it's ripe. now i know it's ripe now, or i can wait a week
Hi, I'm a fan of Asian pears, do you know where I can pick it fresh in a farm around NJ?
glad the one I had this morning was ripe, and yeah, they are very apple-like. if I didn't know better, i'd probably class them as a cross-breed.
firm and texture like an apple, but taste is like a pear. even the inside resembles an apple (with the core/seeds)
this is awesome so helpful tysm!!
Thanks for showing me what to look for! Just picked one of these up at my local grocery store (in Korea) and it was pretty good.
Interesting. I actually came on wanting to find out when to pick mine.

Those apples are super green. LIKE NEON!

You make a video about fruit more entertaining than I thought

I agree, they are like a pear / apple and are really tasty
I have those from the big store, so now that I know what to look for, I can't wait.
We were so confused about whether it was ripe and you helped. Thank yout!
thank you!!! great info. sweater vests... lol. love it
Super sir ji
Great video. Thanks for helping my gal and I learn when to eat our Asian pears that we picked up at the supermarket recently.
I may have cut mine too soon😕 can it be saved??
asian pears are definitely my favorite type of pear! i wait for them to be on sale though, as they tend to be a bit pricey!!!
Never had one of those! Need to try them!
I planted a seed last summer and this year i have a beatifull little tree, its abought a foot tall and we prob wont get any fruit for a fue years .. cant wait
The wait is 4 to 6 years but worth it.
I'm about to get my very first order of asian pears in from my grocery store - I've never had one!
I've tasted Asian pears and they are good. :)
I tried one of these Pears a few months ago and i kinda get a light smokey or roasted taste from skin. I was just wondering if anyone else gets this undertone?
Yes, that's a natural taste within the skin. A lot of people don't eat the skin!
Thank you. Great tips.
it looks very pretty and healthy too!!...I love your channel always are interesting things to learn. :)
you are so knowledgeable and it shows it's nice to learn some of this but when I'm shopping in a store and I just need to know how to choose a ripe one maybe you could have a shorter version that is just straight to the point so I think I gather that the Asian pear do you want to choose them when they're brownish and they last a long time thanks so much
lol Its very ironic that the day I buy one of these for the first time, is the day you upload a video about them :)
Love these!!!! So they are in season now!!!!! Great.
We have an Asian pear tree full of fruit in our back yard. I just did not know when to pick them. They are brown but still small. I think I will wait a while to see if they get bigger since it is only the end of August. Thank you for the informative video.

are these also called butterscotch pears?

thx
I love those Asian pears but they are hard to find.
Your information is great. You need help with the sound of your videos.
I don't think you ever say how to actually tell when it is ripe!
+TheMuffin18 Hey the muffin 18, ill check this out when i get a chance. im really busy right now, but i do want to see this. thanks for the follow-up!

So if they're brown, they're ripe? Sweeter?
theyre tiny here! the one im eating now is size of my whole hand!!
I see Korean pears in my market all the time, but they're like 4 dollars each
Corean-korean giant Bae (pear) is the best !! 🇰🇷🎎
Blue like a smurf
why in the hell do you dislike this video
What's the best way to describe these… juicy?
He does not say how to determine if it is ripe :-(
It's not looks; the fragrance is more important.
Since you're trying to inform the un-informed...a little information about variety may help on you next video. There's a lot of variety available especially since they're being grown more domestically. Looks like you have 3 different ones.
I think he said without saying it: it's the color. Listen again. He SHOULD have said it out loud. Lol.
Korean's call them bae

You say it's ready to use but you don't say what to look for in a ripe asian pear. If I eat a regular pear, it's soft when ripe.
You look for color. They should be yellow to a little brown with no green.
They are sweet and juicy but don't have anywhere near the flavor of a Bartlet pear.
We have a ASIn pear tree in our backyard that's for the info
Hello? That was not very helpful....I went to your vid to tell how Asian Pears are ripe....maybe specify the texture or color when ripe??
The Asian pears that I tried were totally insipid
that's shit sucks
No you haven't told anyone what to look for, thanks for wasting my time.
