Ambi-glow looks pretty sick. Pretty stylish stand and silver accent, wish it was all black though. Still can't compete with the AW3423DWF at the routine sale price of $899
The Philips now cost around 150€ less than the AW3423DWF, delivers a very similar performance and has the ambient light. I think I am going with the Philips.
Tim, I think the OLED G8 SDR mode brightness shown in your graph should be revised, since the monitor's latest firmware update (1504) did something weird to it and in my personal experience it seems to have been tuned waaay down and it is now much lower than what it was in the past
Did they ever fix this? I bought one and it really doesn’t get that bright in hdr and when you turn on game whatever tgat setting is, it just makes the entire monitor brighter but not as much contrast. Idk. I’m not that impressed. Also no difference between amd and nvidia. It’s like they took away the 1000 nuts mode
The difference to the other OLED monitors which has to be mentioned is the integrated KVM switch. In those days where Home Office is usual, the KVM switch is nearly a must have. And the price dropped to 899€ in Germany. Really thinking to get one.
I really really appreciate you doing a continued focus on the 1440p WUHD format. I'm in the market to replace my Dell U3415W which I purchased originally for this ultrawide format, along with it's built in KVM for switching between work (WFH) and gaming in the evening. I've come to the point however where I would really like to see higher refresh rates, even if that means I need to incorporate a USB switch into my setup and forego the KVM.
I own an OLED G8 and i got to say the ambilight system on this Philips seems to be way better than the corelight ring... The thing isn't really bright legs behind the image beforce changing color is often just white because it does not understand the image it displays.
Is there any chance we are getting a 34" curved oled with a normal subpixel layout in the near future? Are there any in the making? Apart from desktop usage you also notice fringing in games, whenever there is a straight horizontal line, like in most menus. So upgrading is kinda pointless when I'm doing it for the picture quality, but I get these pink and green lines all over the place.
Monitor arrived 4 days ago. I dont understand user complains about HDR1000 mode. Until now I had TN 1440p monitor 350nits (no HDR). Once I turned on HDR my eyes almost exploded. Less bright objects on screen more uncomfortably bright they are. I had to tone it down. I havent heard the fan yet so no complains about its noise. It has only 2xHDMI 2.0 insted of 2.1 so I dont recommend this monitor to console gamers. It has KVM switch with 90W PD so great for connecting my office laptop via USB-C 3 years warranty in EU including burn-in and price of $770 makes it almost no brainer to get. I can definitely recommend this monitor especialy for its price.
Nice to see Ambilight but my god you have to go back 15 years to find so few LED's for it, kinda dissapointing they didnt have the full AMblight treatment like their living room tVs because gamers love that feature more than movie watchers
Hi, will you guys ever return to doing "budget" (200 USD to 400 USD depending on sizes) monitors reviews? Just ordered it from Finland .... just for 735€ shipping included! This is the cheapest OLED I could find new. Philips in Europe has a very strong and long reputation in video and music competing with Sony at some point. They got lost fighting with chinese but they do have a good background in video/image management. They seem to be active in maintaining the software (latest version is August 2024) ... I was hesitating with a refurb LG 45GR95QE-B for 100€ more aggressive curve. The price, usb c connectivity to plug all kind of tech toy out of the box and curve seems more usable for productivity. Overall seems more usable outside gaming.

That just depends on the subpixel layout (or the ability of the OS to enhance readability of text by exploiting subpixels). Kind request to actually print the specs on screen instead of quick firing them off. Makes it very difficult to both remember and interpret the characteristics of a screen.

So if I am on my desktop surfing the internet how long before I get burn in like if I sat at the pc for 5 hours straight looking online will I get burn in from the images that haven’t changed like the hot bar at the bottom of the screen
What about the fan? Is it noisy? I saw an option to turn it off. Can the monitor work with the fan turned off? Is the fan audible in "silent" mode? The price 22.05.2024 is £648. And I wonder the reason for such a drastic price reduction. Thanks
Many of you are concerned about the fan noise. Let's be honest, who sits in a perfectly quiet room looking at a monitor? For example, I am more bothered by the miserable crickets, or the sounds of the fans of my PC.
Fan speed hysteresis == no sale. Does anyone know if tech like ClearType is ever going to support these unorthodox pixel layouts? Maybe we’ll have micro LED by then so it won’t matter.
I've always been interested in the Ambilight feature but the lack of HDMI 2.1 and the fan noise for that price? I'll probably just go with G8 when I've saved up or wait for a 38inch 1600p oled to be announced
Why do you want HDMI 2.1 für QHD? Ambiglow is more like a built in ambient light, good for your eyes. It’s not so great in following the video source. Fan noise is high if it’s too bright and lots of white space. Else it’s tolerable.
Right now, in Poland, it’s the cheapest QD-OLED on the market. It’s at about 800 euro, and about 250-300 euro cheaper than G8 or Alienware. It puts it at the price level (about 50 euro more) than the MSI Artemis VA display or BenQ IPS ultrawide. So we’ll, decided to get it. At the current price it’s a steal :)

Heard of this fan ramp up and down in another review as well but can say with certainty that my model does not do that. I left it on auto and even after three hours of HDR gaming there is no difference and the noise is a constant sound (usually sounding like the air moving through the fan and less than the motor of a fan) that does not get louder or quieter. I have the latest firmware installed, but since this review is only one months old I guess it was tested with that same firmware.
@@SmellsLikeNirvanna I use the HDR TrueBlack mode anyway, not the brigther one, so I can't tell. I think it looks brilliant, I don't need the higher brightness, especially since I can dim the room light with ease.
Think it's odd you don't like the ambient glow QD-OLED has in the light when matte displays do the same thing. Just in this case it's a rare case of a glossy doing the same.
I have a matte VA monitor next to my AW3423DWF, and when light hits both monitors, black levels are definitely darker on the VA. If I shut the curtains or shut off the lights, the DWF wins by far, but QD-OLED does have a noticeable pink tint when in the light.
@PlayinWithMahWii well from my experience the matte coating by nature makes the contrast drop in lighting. I mean, it's the whole point that it diffuses the light instead of reflecting it. I just don't think it's a great tradeoff. You can always tilt the screen or move the lights. Haven't heard much of the pink tint. I do know Samsung's anti reflection coatings on their TVs tend to add rainbowing, but I haven't heard much of pink tint. Last time I heard was that QD-OLED was fairly consistent color wise. I don't own one so I can't speak on it, but it sounds rather odd.

@psylami, i think they did that because the new G95 oled came out. Samsung did the same with their oled tvs so I wouldn’t be surprised.
@@bledarrm7976 yep samsung is just plain evil. Never buy from them, they’ll fuck you
Did they ever fix this? I bought one and it really doesn’t get that bright in hdr and when you turn on game whatever tgat setting is, it just makes the entire monitor brighter but not as much contrast. Idk. I’m not that impressed. Also no difference between amd and nvidia. It’s like they took away the 1000 nuts mode
The sRGB mode is very impressive, well done Philips.
The difference to the other OLED monitors which has to be mentioned is the integrated KVM switch. In those days where Home Office is usual, the KVM switch is nearly a must have. And the price dropped to 899€ in Germany. Really thinking to get one.
did u buy it? How is the experience with KVM?
I really really appreciate you doing a continued focus on the 1440p WUHD format. I'm in the market to replace my Dell U3415W which I purchased originally for this ultrawide format, along with it's built in KVM for switching between work (WFH) and gaming in the evening. I've come to the point however where I would really like to see higher refresh rates, even if that means I need to incorporate a USB switch into my setup and forego the KVM.
great review, tim! would also be great to see your review of Samsung qd-oled tv's, as some, including me, consider buying one for playing games
I just ordered the Alienware DWF for 900€, it will be my first oled monitor ever. I'm hyped :D
Hell ya dude. I gotta get up the courage. It's $900USD too.
Hows the monitor bro?
I own an OLED G8 and i got to say the ambilight system on this Philips seems to be way better than the corelight ring...
The thing isn't really bright legs behind the image beforce changing color is often just white because it does not understand the image it displays.
Adding the INNOCN 27M2V to the list of monitors to review!!!!
Not available in Europe because it doesn’t pass energy laws.
What about PHILIPS Evnia 27M2N8500
Is there any chance we are getting a 34" curved oled with a normal subpixel layout in the near future? Are there any in the making?
Apart from desktop usage you also notice fringing in games, whenever there is a straight horizontal line, like in most menus. So upgrading is kinda pointless when I'm doing it for the picture quality, but I get these pink and green lines all over the place.
Windows Just Need to Update it
Monitor arrived 4 days ago.
Can't wait for a 38" OLED ultrawide or a 40" 4K. I had 34" Ultrawide from 2015-2021. I'm ready for the next level.
Good shitt guys love the rewiews , mini led review soon? Perhaps
I would like to see the acer nitro xr3 38” panel. 3840x1600 144hz feels like the sweet spot but have yet to see much coverage on it
Looks like the same IPS screen as the Dell AW38.
The design and the RGB evokes a lot of 80s-2000s aesthetics. Does overall evoke Y2K the most.
OLED and Mini LED is good and all but I think most of them is out of budget ranges for most people which is still dominated by mostly IPS and even VA displays. ViewSonic VX 2758-2K, VX 2780-2K (which is different from VX2780-2K-SHDJ) and revisited some older products like LG older UltraWide 1080p line-ups.
this channel has best tests ever!
Assuming it's arrived by now, how are you finding it? I'm looking for a new monitor myself and this one's on my shortlist.
Excelent review! As expected. However, I think you forgot to mention KVM capabilities (afaik it's the only one), which also impacts the price.
Any chance we could get a review of the new Philips Evnia 27M2N8500? Not a lot of information about it online but its price point is highly competitive.
I’m very much enjoying my completely silent air cooled computer. Now I have to be careful about what monitor I buy in the future so it doesn’t mess up my silent system. Right now I enjoy my LG C2 OLED.
I wish you were also reviewing QD-OLED TVs, like "TVs Unboxed". I'm considering buying a QD-OLED TV to use as a gaming monitor, but I don't know all the details, quirks or pros/cons...
Philips being Philips in naming. I have the Evnia 24M1N3200Z/71 but it has the "Momentum" branding on the front. Their response time tuning is lacking in their other products I used. I just like the minimal design.
I love aesthetics of Evnia KB and Mouse, this dude also looks pretty good, not counting useless RGB stuff.
Where the f is my microLED? Its almost 2024 already. I think some top from AUOpt promised them in just few years, it was few years ago :)
MicroLEDs are damn near the endgame of monitors. They HAVE to let Oled and miniled moniters run its course first.
I'm anxiously waiting for 32" OLED monitors... Hopefully we'll get them soon!
32" 4K? Because that form factor looks wack in 1440p
@@syed2694 I have a 1440p 32" IPS panel that looks perfectly fine. I play competitive titles so more frames = more better. I currently have a 7900 xt and 7700x system and I'd be perfectly happy with 1440p to keep my very high frame rate but have better motion clarity and better contrast.
@syed2694 4k monitors is(unfortunately) not really practical, for any "high end" graphics intensive games....like all the coming unreal 5 engine based games. So, at least if your into cutting edge 3D graphics, 4k is not really ideal, before the graphics cards gets more powerful in terms of performance per watt! 🙂
@@billardon514 92 DPI is not fine.
@@danieljrgensen133 idk what you're arguing here but that was never my point.
Looks like IPS monitor still the best choice for cleanest text to read. VA comes 2nd best for text reading.
That just depends on the subpixel layout (or the ability of the OS to enhance readability of text by exploiting subpixels). Every panel technology is capable of being simple straightforward RGB layout or more complicated layouts that do offer other advantages, but Windows just isn't able to handle those layouts gracefully (yet).
@@MLWJ1993 Thats correct.
Could you please do a buyers guide/recommendation video for your Australian viewers? prices/models vary drastically, or aren't available at all, and it would be great to have something for here.
For that price the fan should be *silent* and the HDMI ports definitely need to be 2.1 minimum and that's not taking into account the general issues with these first gen QD OLED screens
I was thinking to buy this monitor but I am not sure. My main use will be for coding / studying and also play videogames (70-80% coding/studying and the rest gaming/watching movies)
How works for productivity?
2:58 i dont know, but when i set it to a higher Brightness it actually just increases the white, not the color
This thing was about $500AUD off, picked it up, pretty awesome. I do have to say missing the RGB control seems odd. the sRGB mode feels a bit...'orange'/warm
Bought this for just 550 Euros on the second hand market. What a steal!
I really hope we get more info on MSI's Project 491C its supposed to release this year and we don't even know if its 4k or 1440p (probably the latter but would rather it get confirmed) its an interesting monitor and I want to finally make the jump from IPS to QDOLED
In Belgium it is on sale right now for €999
Right now these are 125USD cheaper than the alienware model on the EU market. Definitely a viable choice.
Thank you for mentioning the hdr setting issue with amd gpu. I was thinking i go mad why i didn't got the hdr smartimage setting to enable. So, just need to switch off shortly vrr.
Great new channel, great content👍 Subscribed
Danke für deine Mühe
I don't know if this is just a Canada thing, but MOST if not all those OLED / QD-OLED are never available around here on amazon or newegg....
£560 inc vat and delivery at the moment in the UK do you think its worth it now?
What would you consider as the most color&EOTF accurate OLED monitor under SDR before and/or after calibration?
I just impulse bought this for the equivalent of $450 usd from amazon for black friday this year now tome for me to watch the video and see if its worth it
There's a monitor I want to suggest for review. There is a 27" 1440p ASUS Proart IPS Monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate and 5ms GTG refresh time. It has 100% SRGB and 95% DCI-P3 coverage. I believe the monitor was designed for video game creation and 3D rendering.
ASUS ProArt PA278CGV
Kind request to actually print the specs on screen instead of quick firing them off. Makes it very difficult to both remember and interpret the characteristics of a screen.
Which monitor is better to buy this one or samsung oled g8?
Still using my BenQ XL27220Z back from 2014..... The upgrade to an OLED, 175hz, HDR, 1440p monitor must be astronomical
You would likely notice the added motion blur, I still use my crt over my 240hz oled in competitive for that reason.
I have just one question ..
lg c2 oled 48 inch is exactly the same tv as lg c2 42 inch ??
I mean by quality and hdr experience
it is €900,- here in CE.
Is he good for editing?
Great video!!
Its currently 700usd goes with my white build setup.
Any word if the G9 OLED will be exclusive to Samsung? Or will the other manufacturers get in on it
Suggestion, record these videos in HDR so those of us with HDR can see some of the possible differences?
27M2N8500 please! :)
I don't remember him mentioning if this monitor was VESA compatible. He's normally good at mentioning whether it has, or lacks, VESA compatibility.. In looking at the video, it does not appear to have the holes for a VESA mount.
It has a 100x100 vesa adapter
Hey Tim, hi, how you doing?
Could you check out the
AOC Agon Pro AG276QZD
The last of the high end WOLED 27" QHD gaming monitors?
and the
Acer Predator X34 V
Acer's QD-OLED 34" UWQHD option. They (acer) have options in each category. Smart.
How about a review of a new QHD monitor at 240hz that MSI launch a few days ago , maybe its good deal
Screen backlight almost does not appear in your video, did you put the monitor in frond of the wall or is there a distance between
Any review for Evnia 42" 4K?
Does it support VESA 100x100? I see it in the datasheet but from the pictures I do not see vesa mounts?
I don’t know why it was expensive a year ago, but right now it’s the cheapest qd oled ultrawide with gaming specs right besides Alienware
Hi, what about 45-49" OLED Monitors, have there a new product came out from other brands like Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 G95SC (49") model and will you test it? I think it is brighter then LG UltraGear 45GR95QE-B (45") in SDR mode becouse it use the QD-OLED panal. I read that LG is prepering 27" OLED 480 Hz monitor that will come out in 2025, is that true if you read about it and what are your thoghts about it?
Only pressure would come from Mac OS supporting this. It doesn’t.
They fixed the fan with new firmware, now just have to add burn-in warranty
I like seeing that music band video. It looks like none of those people have any idea what they are doing, while trying to look cool at the same time.
Can you please review the new G9 oled and compare it with other qd oled to see if it's worth the wait
The back is made with Sega Saturn polygons.
I saw this monitor in 800 in Amazon I’m thinking to take it😊
Tim, have you reached out to Gigabyte regarding the M27Q X and it's disappearance?
Will you be reviewing the 49” model?
Andrzej jak wrażenia z monitora? Wybieram właśnie pomiędzy nim a monitorem 4k
@@barteks816 Do gier rewelacja. Znakomity kontrast, czerń, HDR i kolory.
No i za 3799 to bije cena/jakość wszystkie inne 21:9. G8/Alien są o tysiak+ drożej, a dobry ultrawide na ips/va to jakies 3400.

its the updatet AOC Gaming U34G2X i guess
Heard of this fan ramp up and down in another review as well but can say with certainty that my model does not do that. I left it on auto and even after three hours of HDR gaming there is no difference and the noise is a constant sound (usually sounding like the air moving through the fan and less than the motor of a fan) that does not get louder or quieter.
I have the latest firmware installed, but since this review is only one months old I guess it was tested with that same firmware.
Have they fixed the inaccurate hdr issue?
@@SmellsLikeNirvanna I use the HDR TrueBlack mode anyway, not the brigther one, so I can't tell. I think it looks brilliant, I don't need the higher brightness, especially since I can dim the room light with ease.
I could probably go the rest of 2023 and 2024 without seeing another Oled review. Still a thumbs up though.
