Same earth failure issue on a V70 too. Tailgate isn’t metal and all earth connections pull from one under spec’d connection. Burns out and everything in the tailgate plays up or stops working. Official Volvo guidance is to bypass connections with thicker cable. Great work, well done.

Wow, that’s mad even Volvo do the bypass trick 😂😂😂
It make good logical sense , thanks Michael 🙏🙏👍

This is a common fault on Yaris'ssesses as well Peter. There's also no harm running another splice off that soldered earth joint & attaching an extra ground to some close handy point on the body in case the naff OEM ground wire is getting hot because it is (as per usual) skimpy as all ta feck. :-)

Quite a common problem on a lot of vehicles. An easy fix too 💪👍👍👍

Thank you Kevin, something most of us see everyday but the inbuilt LED I thought made it interesting 🤨 🙏👍

i do this a lot the exact same way but dependant on model i put a connector in the middle of the connecting wire to allow the wiring block connector to still be disconnected from the the bulb holder. Think its caused by age oxidation of the pin connections as you dont tend to see it on new cars causing high resistance/ high amperage, hence the heat and the result is what you see.

That sounds very plausible Chris, I like your in depth thinking 🧐. Your like Sherlock Holmes, no stone uncovered 🙂

Is that a basic design fault?. Great fix.

Yes Paul, this is quite a common failure on tail light systems on most brands. But the in built LED lighting not working was the key tip on this video, I thought it was going to be a control module failure but luckily I didn’t need any parts in order to get it back working again 👍👍
And thanks for watching & commenting 🙏😉

Its caused by fretting of the connectors resulting in heat,

Good old quality German engineering Peter , wires too thin for all the grounds from the light cluster, have done this many times on Renault clios , great job done and no new parts 👍👍

Quite a common problem but I had to do some looking as to what was happening with the LED’s. It worked out very easy in the end. Cheers Mike 😉

manfactures should make the earth wire heavy .. there could always be a situation where you need to reverse up the road in the middle of a foggy night with the hazards on and brake light switch stuck open ..:O

Seen that one myself. Problem is the ground is the same csa as the rest of the feeds. I drilled a hole in the bulb assembly earth, lugged and bolted and earth to body

I have grounded a few of them to body ground too but I thought it might be better using it’s own ground being powered by a module rather than a switch 🤷🏼‍♂️
Once it worked Dave eh, I’m just catching up on your latest vid in a few moments. I been pretty busy & am running behind on my watching 😬
