I do this so bad. I have trouble stopping. And I go into way to much detail and nobody cares! Lol thank you for this video. I really want to try to be silent more and listen more and talk way way less. It’s a nervous thing I do too. Sometimes the more awkward I am the more I talk. So it’s hard.

I agree people try to connect by relating a personal, similar, story. I need to work on listening, as the form of connection, instead. Great points!

I find that when I don't share and "over listen" people think I am withdrawn or cold, uninterested. I love listening to great story tellers. I automatically shut up and listen to other people's interesting lives. My life isn't exciting and I can't juice up a retell of even a funny interaction I experienced.

Great topic. As an introvert, I tend to listen way more than talk... especially with people I don't know well. And the not talking seems to bore people so then I start talking about myself (too much at times) which also ends up being a turn-off. I feel that striking a balance is kind of hard. With good friend,s I have to remind myself to shut up (lol) and really listen to what they have to say.

I struggle with listening and even though I don’t talk much I have been guilty of interrupting in the past. This was a great topic and good things to think about going forward.

Good practice for me is to listen to myself through meditation. What I find is that it clears out my box of thoughts a little, because I allow myself to think about something and then I let it go. Valuable thoughts may come back more often and may need to be talked about with someone else, but impulse thoughts and other clutter tend to be less over time. I guess you could call it minimalism for the mind haha.

I don't really care about listening more 😂 I just need to decrease my level of talking because I do get the occasional needling over it. In the past, whenever I've cut back (especially at work), it immediately causes people to think I'm pissed off or withdrawn.
In short, a technique that's worked for me is thinking, "I've said everything I need to say. I don't owe these people anything. I am my own best audience." ✌️

Sometimes i just met someone likable and having a conversation. All of a sudden they stop and ask: where are you from? I say, why? They respond: oh, i hear an accent... OMG, I just wanna run away from that person. Dude, you JUST met me and we were having a nice exchange about whatever unrelated. WHY are you being intrusive and wish to box me into a category right off the bat?

Interesting and timely - a couple of my favorite podcast hosts who used to have hour long talks now go on and on 2-3 hours. It’s unfortunate because it just can’t sustain my attention but maybe also they just talk too much. Love Rich Roll but man, he’s lost me now - too much talking. Bums me out.
