      @Psychonaut If the dangers of Benzos are so well known that you question the competency of the man who was prescribed them, why are you not questioning the competency of the doctors who prescribed them to him? And why is the drug not banned from use? Doctors in America and Canada, are right now as we speak prescribing this drug to people. Sounds like the doctors have some sever ethical or competency problems, but you want to blame the patients competency instead.

      @Psychonaut And Jordan Peterson's message is - "Never do or say anything that makes you weak."

      And what you are gonna do with that rock....at the age of 74...just to live the perfect practical life..to impress others or one,s oneself...go to Hindu scripture like bhagwad Geeta...if lucky you will understand the purpose of this life....or else just revolve around the truth with Jordan...and never reach inside the truth....simply reach no where....

      @@chandansingh-oc5wl You are experiencing what is known as spiritual materialism, you know, as if you discovered it alone. Luck has zero to do with understanding life. I prefer vipasanna to kundalini. It suits me better, and clears my mind of debris, but what I meant is that Jordan presents in plain english a means of going out into the world in a meaningful productive way. Whether I impress others or not is no longer of importance to me and hasn't been for a long time. Walking around with a beatific smile on your face helps no one, unless you can interact with others in a way that all can easily understand. Dr. Peterson provides that.

  • @VinnyTheory
    @VinnyTheory 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Paying attention is allowing your thoughts to be naturally truthful. Thinking is strategically shaping your thoughts to produce a desired outcome. If you think about it, thinking of what you would like to say rather than saying exactly what you’re thinking is a form of lying

      Well living without a filter also hurts a lot of people. Just because you think it doesn't mean someone needs or deserves to hear it.

    • @VinnyTheory
      @VinnyTheory 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vincent Moriarty yes, and we lie a lot of the time in order to not hurt people. I’m not saying lying in this way is bad, I’m just pointing out that the difference between paying attention and thinking, is that thinking requires a degree of lying. So, if you would like to truly listen to someone, get rid of all the “thinking” in your head that’s attempting to manipulate and shape a thought or set of words, and just pay attention! This is what makes Jordan brilliant, he’s able to articulate these kinds of concepts out of thin air. The only reason I’m able to even observe these concepts is because Jordan already laid them out for us to discuss

  • @woodstock1769

    I tell you, he's just struck a few chords with me and my thinking. Ive ended up in some really awkward situations just because i didnt speak the truth of what i was thinking in that moment at a particular time. Yes live with the consequences if they occur but speak the truth. It prevails over everything in the long run despite it not being apparent in that immediate moment.

    Reciprocation is a key component to healthy, most of the time, conversation and honest communication. Listening with the intention to have a reciprocated response, but not biased by one's own opinions, agendas, and experience. Share in the moments with people and make the attempt at "blooming" conversations without a selfishly linear path of thinking.

But the fact is that a spell is just some words you say out loud, and active imagination is a muscle you can build to become better at creating - aka enacting your will into the world. Right on! I've had the habit of overthinking, rehearsing in my mind what to say and do in anticipation of any conversation. I always thought what the other person would say, not only was that a waste of time but stressed me a lot. Heck, why should I think for other people? I can't control what they would think. This is the best thing, Pay attention, don't think that much. We can't control people's reactions anyway, just let it flow and be spontaneous. Trust me, this improved my sleep at night not having to worry too much.

    I too have been trying this for years. Don't be discouraged or surprised when you catch yourself doing the opposite of " going with the flow" so to speak, one upping and self promoting inserted into a conversation, or even trying to take control. It takes practice!

    Whenever I converse with people, I notice that the issue isn't so much people not paying attention per se, but that the noise inside their head is just so loud it drowns everything else out. It's almost impossible for them to pay attention because all they can see and hear is their voice and insecurities.
    It's only when we find that "inner peace" can we truly pay attention to people; to hear what they're actually saying and to see them for who they are.

    I think an important addenda needs to be the humility to also be wrong and the flexibility to change one's point of view. Honesty and intent listening are great, and fully endorse asking questions, but if thoughts emerge and they are wrong we need to be able to recognize that and internalize it.
    Godspeed Dr. Peterson!

    Every moment and every event of our life on earth plants something in our soul. Once someone has reached enlightenment in one thing, they will have an enlightened mind and understanding of many things, for the very thing that is most important is the growth with one’s very soul every second of every day to accomplish one’s aim. By changing what we cling to in the present, we can alter the future. Refine our personality, be free to live the life that we want to live by making choices and apply what we want to do.

    To speak the truth is to first know what the truth is. To know what the truth is is an incredibly intensive, introspective process filtering the various inputs from the world through our own, personal, neural structure, everyone's filter is different based on their experience. The truth is malleable, it can be filtered differently, it is not absolute. Our truth filter is made up of our values and our education. Therefore, to have a better truth to speak, we all owe it to ourselves and the world around us to to put work into developing a strong value system and to be as educated as possible in fundamental areas of human life. I've always loved Dr. Peterson's work because I feel that he has always built his arguments off of an incredibly strong base of values and fundamentals.

      Perhaps speaking the ‘truth ‘ here refers more to saying what you actually think. It may be wrong or not completely right, but it is nevertheless truly what you think. Then be open to an engaged conversation and be willing to learn through the sharing of ideas. This way we are able to grow in wisdom (hopefully🤔)

    "Where do you come from?" said the Gold King to the Snake, "From the cleft where the gold abides" answered the snake. "What is more splendid than gold?" Asked the king - "Light" said the snake. "What is more enlivening than light" asked the king - "Conversation" said the snake. (From Goethe's fairy tale The Green snake and the beautiful Lilly.)

    The Individual whom you are having a conversation with matters.
    This is the mindset I try to have when talking with people. These are my own words, but I must credit Dr. Jordan Peterson for being an encouragement to have this mindset much more now than I had a year ago, and more at that time than the year prior. Practice and consistency in some areas really pays off.
    I've even had people spill their lives out to me at times and hours afterward I thought, this is the same person who outright rejects nearly everything about most people who believe as I do; but somehow he picks up that to most of them, he/she doesn't matter.
    Oddly enough, I know that I'm the same person; my values have not undergone any significant change; but I have changed, my behavior at the very least; and I hope it means that I'm actually practicing the old virtuous values. Last of all I also know that there's still room for improvement - better today than yesterday, better tomorrow than today.
