    • @PseudoResonance
      @PseudoResonance 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I like RGB because I can have a consistent color scheme. I would rather not have all the wild rainbow rave lights though lol.

    • @2sites
      @2sites 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I think Linus is almost single-handedly responsible for the RGB marketing explosion. He might have been joking all these years in the videos, but i don't think most people understood that. lol, he played into the "RGB everything" hype. I never understood why/

    • @SirTipsi
      @SirTipsi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@2sites I feel like a bit of RGB with only 1 color, or maybe 2 colors that are close to each other, can give a fairly clean look. It just shouldn't be overdone. And I think Linus likes a bit of RGB as well. You can clearly tell when he's being sarcastic about RGB and when not.

    I've had the Asus Tuf B550M Plus Wifi since Nov. 2021 when I built my recent desktop. AMD 5800x, Corsair 32gb ram, Sabrent 1tb gen4 Rocket 4+ & Sabrent Rocket Q 1tb gen3 nvme drives, GTX 1650 at the time - upgraded to RTX 3060ti, EVGA 550w PSU (was on sale for $50 bucks, plenty of wattage for my system), in a Cooler Master Q300L TUF Case.
    Amazing build! Had it almost 2 years now, and no plan to upgrade for years to come (I kept my last PC for 7 years and it still was fine for me). I do video editing/rendering and play some games here and there. Mostly just Fortnite for fun and currently Hogwarts Legacy. On my 8 year old Viewsonic 27" 1080x60 monitor I can max out Hogwarts Legacy (just RT off), and with Vsync on I get a consistent 60fps never dropping below.
    There really isn't any means of upgrading. I could get a 5800x3d, or a 5900x, or 5950x. But the little increase wouldn't be worth it to me. Sure with a 5800x3d I may get 5 or 10 more fps in the games I play (but I don't need it), and yes a 5950x would reduce my video rendering times (but I'm pretty happy with them as is with 4k rendering).
    I really have no reason to upgrade until there is some game a few years from now that I want to play on max settings. I'm sure this setup would play games for 5+ years, just over time may have to lower some settings to medium/high instead of all maxed. And even then I could upgrade the video card. Also, I don't see myself going above 4k video editing for a long time.
    Hopefully this setup lasts me 5+ more years!

I do music production streaming at times, and experience heavy audio dropouts, when using my audio device(s) and Elgato CamLink 4K at the same time (through OBS). Supporting two x16 slots at x8 makes it better than most x570 boards. I'm sure most would prefer support for two Gen4 M.2 slots at the expense of a couple FPS.
    Plus, the x570 chipsets don't have unlimited bandwidth and will start to bottleneck if you start using lots of ports, and quickly saturated if you use the m.2 slot from the chipset. In reality, the difference in PCIe lanes from x570 to B550 is 4 lanes operating at half the speed, so going from 24 Gen4 lanes to 22 Gen4 lanes, that's not a massive step down. I seriously dislike my Asus x570-P board as I have to run the case fans at a higher speed to keep the high-pitched PCH fan at a sensible noise level.
    PS: Measure the height of the PCH fans, some of them are right at the ATX limit of 0.6" (mines slightly higher), blocking airflow to the PCH. It doesn't help being in the worst possible place to be blocked by the only x16 slot. Asus are also the only company that down allow the PCH fan speed to be configured (each 1c change, changes the PCH fan by 500rpm making it constantly shift in pitch). I haven't been impressed by how Asus has handled this both personally, and they've ignored the many requests to add fan control. Had 3-4 Asus boards in a how now, the next one won't be.

      Some of these boards are nearly 50% cheaper than x570... THAT is why they're exciting. They don't have as many features, but I think the point he was trying to make is that they have enough features to suit most peoples needs.

      @@noxious89123 They're about the same price my dude, and you don't even get PCIe 4 through the chipset on B550. Not to mention that they'll change the socket when DDR5 comes out, and that's slated for 2022. Any "upgrade" with B550 is pointless.

    I've got a b450 board from msi with dual pcie m.2 slots, a pcie 16x and 8 USB ports, two being 3.2 gen 2 (a and c) 4 being 3.2 gen 1 and two usb 2.0 ports.
    I can't imagine needing more than that for a long time honestly.

      @Zwenk Wiel Isn't PCI-E 4.0 functionality limited on B550 boards? Not sure what it means in practice, but I'm pretty sure that PCI-E 3.0 is still a limit for secondary functions.

    • @RoboGamerNL
      @RoboGamerNL 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Derael It indeed only works on one of the two M.2 slots and on the primary PCI-E slot. But if you have money for more 2 expensive PCI-E 4.0 SSD's or two GPU's, you could just buy X570.
      B550 is great because it brings lots of features for about $150-$200 while X570 goes for $300+

    B550M, the Micro ATX lineup, appears that there will be only two truly feasible options if you intend to use a Ryzen 3950X or 4950X full~time: Those would be ASRock's B550M Steel Legend and Gigabyte's B550M Aorus Pro, and with the X570M Pro4 basically being deprecated and also almost three times its MSRP right now, you will end up going with either of these two boards.
    The Steel Legend and Aorus Pro of the B550M Class have debatably the best Heatsinks for the VRMs and MOSFETs out of the Micro ATX lineup that if overall thermals and power stability are your key concern, there truly is no better option right now if you are going for Sixteen Cores on a budget board; the B550M Steel Legend does have less USB: Type A ports than the B550M Aorus Pro (seven instead of nine), but makes up for this by having six SATA III ports instead of the latter's four and also support for older era mice and keyboards that use a PS cable instead of USB, but it ultimately comes down to price: Would you rather pay 0I54.99$ USD for the Steel Legend for the extra storage and hardware compatibility or go with the Aorus Pro and save about 035$ while having less ports for storage but have more USB accessibility and possibly better VRM and MOSFET cooling?
    The choice will ultimately be up to you, but if there are other factors that come into play (for example, the B550M Aorus Pro might have a slightly higher priced AC variant like its ATX counterpart for 0I0$ more than the original, if you need Intel Certified Wireless LAN support and certain other features), then do your homework first; especially if you're going for a Ryzen 3950X Micro ATX build, you need to know what is ideal to get and what to avoid, anything lower tier than these two boards might run you into trouble (you might even be able to get away with a Pro4 or Aorus Elite if you have decent airflow, but then we're probably also talking about issues with Overclocking and Overall Stability for long term use, at that point) and it's best to play it safe and do your studying as deemed necessary, there's still some more to find out about B550 and we'll see what comes of it as the times progress.
