Sorry for some misinformation here, capture and kill loot tables are slightly different. Kill loot tables in high rank include gems, which are rare drops needed for certain items. They do also come from breaking parts of a monster and as potential investigation rewards.
Thanks for clarifying this. Was about to throw a "wo wo wo wo wo..." at you. Good catch with this pinned message. Too many are trying to cap Legiana and that gem is a punk to find.
The mistake is understandable. In past games, plates and gems sometimes couldn't be carved and the monster had to be captured. We're also still all learning since this MH game had a global release instead of us getting it a year or two after Japan.
Haha literally was gonna say only kill if you need a gem. I know they can come from breaking other parts as well, but that extra chance at carve always outweighs the extra loot for capturing imo. Everyone should always look in the monster book!
Things i wishes that i knew, hunters notes? Your best friend. Dung pods? Essential on high tier content. Eating before a quest? No reason to not do and a lot of reasons to DO IT! Weapons? Not all weapons work well with every monster, for example, fighting a diablos or tall monster with my favourite great-sword is not easy as they are either to fast or out of reach. Always keep a steady supply of mega barrel bombs, herbs, honey, potions and mega potions with the auto craft enabled for them. Never drink potions, save them to make mega potions. Before going on a hunt, check what the monsters are weak to and what damage that they deal, as well as what your armour protects you the most from and what damage that it makes worse (it makes ALL the difference when fighting... lets say a kirin as it can make the difference between a 1 shot from 200 health and a survivable amount of damage) Use environmental traps and damage effects to get easy large amounts of damage, and keep in mind which monsters turf war with each other for more damage. Check the elementals on your weapons and see if the target monsters are immune to them, if they are then you’re losing out on a lot of damage and making it harder for yourself. If you’re finding it hard to survive in melee ranges then switch to a bow or light bow gun until you’re comfortable that you can predict what the monster will do in what situations, then go back to melee if you’d like. Some monsters have special conditions like (will do so and so when situations X happen) An example is when the hunters notes say a certain type of slinger ammo can break a monsters secondary armour (mainly mud armour or snow armour). Telling a monsters health isn’t easy, so if it runs away from you, let it and you should sharpen your weapons and restore your health, and restock potions if necessary, if it tuns back to its nest and sleeps, plant bombs on breakable areas (mainly the head) and wake it it with the most powerful single hit attack you or your teammates have (mainly if not ALWAYS greatsword). Don’t forget to keep your palicos armour and weapon up to date so that it can be a better ally to have on hunts. Remember! If the area you’re fighting the monster in is cramped then run to a wider space and lure it there. Monsters that focus on area control will have a much easier time killing you in tight and enclosed spaces, and try to keep them away from entrances/exits lest they lock you in/out of the fight. Lastly, learn the move set of the monsters you hunt, be cautious and when you’re certain that you know how they move you can strap on your armour that you know is resistant to their attacks, slot some jewels that prevents their de-buffs and let blunt weapon users go for the heads, sharp weapons for the tails and be mindful that you don’t stagger your teammates (I’m looking at you longsword mains 👀) Thats all the sagely wisdom that i can offer thats never going to be read on a year old video, enjoy my non existent readers and happy hunting!
Also, tip for people stuck on Anjanath, when it gets fire in it's nose, shoot it with a watermoss. It'll help with that. Watermoss can also be used to clean Barroth's and Jyura's mud off.
An 8th tip: There is NO pausing in MH, whether single player or MP. So be sure you take care of what you need to BEFORE going on any hunt (Bathroom break, eats, phone calls, etc) or after one.
I didn't know and thought that everyone will have it but then realized why it was so easy. when I first killed an elder dragon I finally replace my Guardian Armour set because it's better
@@Valstrax_ sadly i cant play iceborne for whatever reason. i have the master edition, finished the game, and is 16 hr, but fiesty fiver doesn't help. (i play on xbox one btw )
@@acolddarkgentlebruh8205 just get into the habit of looking at your stamina bar. That's how I always see that I forgot to eat. Edit: unless you meant buffs like demon and armor drugs/potions.
So the first time i played this game i was on the furst boss fight. The giant lizard thing. Well it showed me how to sharpen my sword so i did. Well when i was fighting it was doing a ton of damage then i was confused cause it was only doing like 1 damage or something. So i completely forgot to sharpen my sword. So i spent literally like 4 hours trying to kill it. Well after the battle i was messing around with the hot bar and such and remembered how to sharpen my sword. I never forgot again. I also had ro quit playing for the rest of day cause of how stupid i was. Lol
"... A certain monster that will kick your ass if you're not ready for it..." Me: Ah, yes, he must be referring to Nergigante. "Anjanath." Me: Wait, what?
I never knew how easy captures could be until my brother showed me his method. When monster is asleep throw TRANQ BOMBS FIRST before placing the trap! Monster does not wake up until you place trap and it is activated. Doing the trap first means you run the risk of you being too slow to scroll through your full item list for the tranq bombs or accidentally using the wrong item in your frantic rush and being too slow... or other monsters big or small knocking you down... and in all these cases your trap expires, monster is now free, and you wasted your trap! Throwing 2 tranq bombs first means for some time after, even if it wakes up cause another monster hit it, the monster you want to catch will be caught instantly if it falls into the trap. Honestly after all the failed capture quests of the past and wasted expensive traps, it made me realize how much of a moron I was for doing traps first ever! Sometimes simple tips make all the difference.
I am done with the story and still didn't know this I still play the game if you want to know btw but I have the tranq bombs placed in that menu to get items quick so I haven't failed in a long time
That works assuming you didn't take too long to follow the monster and set up your plan. If they rest enough to no longer be tired, you done goofed. I'm surprised people are struggling with capturing in world as they made it a joke. Stun traps are nearly instant to deploy, last an age and have an activate radius the size of the screen. You no longer have to hit the monster with tranq bombs, instead can just splash it around in their general vicinity... Radial menu that lets you instantly activate items.. xD you kids got it easy
@@VentureTime_ow ok how the hell are you supposed to compare those two other than story (which the FF series excels in and beats MH as it doesn't have a deep story other than World's)
My biggest tips as a Veteran MH: Practice, Be Patient, Learn from your mistakes, Predict the monsters pattern. Also Wedge beetles can be Grappled onto in this one.
I found CB to be pretty simple to learn. It's got some great complexity hidden under the hood that isn't immediately apparent. I just learned how to charge my shield and sword yesterday, with 50 hours into the game. It's been a blast playing with CB and I would recommend it to anyone, especially new players. It's one of the top weapons at end game, so best to learn it early.
Out of curiosity, did you (Jud and Gerry) start by trying it out in the tutorial section, did you pay attention to the tutorial you were given when you were using it in a hunt, or did you ignore all tutorial stuff, never practiced with it, didn't know it could turn into a bigger sword, and were confused at why you were bouncing off the enemies after a few hits? I ask because I had a friend who said he was told to start with the charge blade because it was the "coolest" weapon, and promptly never learned how to use it. It's cool, and feels amazing to land those heavy smacks on a monster, but you have to have some time to wrap your head around it. I had a hard time trying to verbally coach my absolutely brand new friend who only plays an hour of MH once every couple of weeks in how to use the CB while in a mission and fighting a Barroth and/or a Juryatodos.
@@Thalanox I'm a new player and i started with the charged blade. Tell your friend to learn the basics in the training zone and then go and fight something like the little jagras. He will then get an idea as to how the blade works. Hit the enemy in the normal sword mode to charge it up then switch to axe mode to discharge the elemental charge.
Damnn I feel bad now. Can't find anyone in the comment mentioning Gun Blade. Started with a hammer but I need a shield because that Anjanath keeps jumping on me. 5 hours into the game now.
If you press triangle from your stash it'll refill all your consumables in your pouch assuming you have stacks of said items. don't need to restock individually. :)
In addition, press options/start (w/e it's called for your console) to manage loadouts. Set up a basic loadout for when you want to capture and one to kill. I usually use 3 different loadouts. Elder dragons, basic hunting, and minimalist for gathering/track farming. Each of these will also have a different shortcut wheel setup. So make sure to edit that as well.
I have saved loadouts for basic hunts, difficult hunts (so adding might pills, etc), hunts in the elder stream, etc. Also, I don't max out lesser consumables. Things like herbal medicine and potions I'll take half stacks, and autocraft the rest in mission. That way, I'm generally coming back with more than I left with, and I don't have to manage stock levels as much.
Nope. Armors already fully upgraded. Im not new to monster hunter so with that armor i was able to solo every low rank monster without much difficulty.
Some tips from a veteran Monster Hunter: I usually stayed with the bowgun 'til HR. The heavy bowgun is nice for those who prefer heavy firepower and burst attacks. My routine usually goes like this; (in this case I'm gonna use Legiana as my example) I'm gonna start out with Slicing ammo on her tail as it allows the player to break it faster. Some sticky ammo to the head for a possible stun or a flashpod would be better. Then spam the special ammo (wyvernheart) on her head. By this time, she should retreat where you could burst her with Wyvern or Pierce 2 ammo. My upgrades are always Close Range as it allows higher damage output on the Wyvern ammo. But beware, using the bowgun can really cost you a lot throughout the story as you inevitably need to buy ammo once after every quest and/or expedition. Another two cents on the insect glaive thing; its not bad at all but it isn't best either. Its nice to use as helps you mount the monsters but trust me, using simpler weapons such as longswords, sword n shields, and hammers are much more better. I'm a veteran but I still use the longsword 'cos its all about mindset and mastery. Any weapon can be great but the wielder is always greater. Much love y'all and happy hunting to new players !
Goblin Gimp destiny is lore heavy? I honestly felt like that has one of the weakest stories in modern AAA titles... I haven't played MH yet though so i cant really compare either
Lore does not equal story. Destiny's campaigns have always featured mediocre stories at best, but stuff like the Book of Sorrows and Dredgen Yor's story have added a lot of lore and flavor to the Destiny world. I can't speak to Monster Hunter lore, as World is the first game I've ever played and I barely understand how damage is calculated. XD
QU67 i understand that but as a long time RPG player i still believe Destiny to be very light on lore even compared to recent titles like Horizon. I haven't played MHW yet though and his comment might still stand if the series is even lighter on lore which seems unusual to me with an rpg series with so many entries
Watching this video made me realize the monster health bar is actually really small in the bottom left of the screen. My silly ass thought it was only to say who you're targetting and didnt notice the "heart monitor" style health bar. 50 hours in and the game still manages to make me feel like a noob... and I understood that b52 reference so yeah, that says a lot. That silly bomber loves to interupt.
That’s just how bad the game is at communicating with the player what its supposed to mean. This game is very unclear about so many things (locations, objectives, affinity???), it’s frustrating, and yep, I read the tutorial tips whenever they pop up.
what bar? lol am i blind? This is like the 10th video i watch about MH and i can't find the enemies' health bar yet! Where is it? I looked at the bottom left but there is just the circle map radar
Some side notes: Any weapon works and has its unique perks. While I recommend newer players use starter weapons, I HIGHLY suggest you pick up a weapon you can get the hang of and enjoy. Its one things to use a weapon thats easy and its a whole nother when you use one you love. 2: Know your monster. It can be very valuable in a fight to know where its weakpoints are, where its breakable, whats severable (tail), its elemental weaknesses and status effects. This will not only make some fights easier I.E. rathian, but it can also be a good way to collect materials without having to kill it completely if you cant beat it. Kind of like a way of getting out, using what you managed to get, upgrade, and get back out. 3: Fire is almost useless late game. Sure its neat damage and some weapons look cool, but because you'll be running into so many monsters that are immune to fire its best to go a bettter route. 4: Teamates can either help or worsen your hunt. I'm not gonna go into detail you can figure that out. 5. Dont be afraid to bail on a fight if your low on RSS. Your on a map thats thrilling with herbs, honey, mushrooms, bugs, and other things that will help. 6. Environmental awareness. You get better at this over time. This could be from knowing where vitality plants are for healing to where I can drop boulders on yhos rathalos' head. 7. People love it when you mount. Its a good source of damage as the monster is wide open to attacks. 8. Palico. Rely on that adorable cat He has saved my life more times then I can count. 9. If you can cause a turf war that will wound the monster your hunting... DO IT. This happens more often anyways in high rank with B52s and pickles running around. 10. If yiur a dark souls veteran you probably have experience with this. Trest every fight with patience and learning. Wait for opening. Monsters do have their own stamina counter, them being exhausted slows them down and creates bigger opening between attacks.
I have a tip: Watch a video guide on a weapon you're interested in. I watched a 20 minute guide (which goes by quicker than you'd think) about the Light Bowgun and it was incredibly helpful because I wasn't sure why I was hitting 1's and why my reticle kept changing. Now I know, and now I waste less ammo. Lots of other things like that.
Here's some more tips for you. You can have item load-outs by pressing options/start in the item box. Also you can change the order of your items on the item bar by pressing start, go to item pouch and customize the order. (i think its triangle/Y)
Basically lets you take out a selection of items that you created, for example you could make a set that has 10xMega Potions and 5x Demon Drugs, traps etc. but you could have another set with 10x Mega Potions 5x Herbal Medicine, Flash Bombs etc. Its really helpful. If you hunt a Rathalos you'd want flash bombs, herbal medicine and traps but if you were to fight an Elder dragon, you can't use traps and none of them poison in MHWorld but you might want to take Nulberries, Mega armor skin and Demon drug. So being able to switch theses Inventory load-outs at the press of a button is a great time saver.
DATTO for the inventory segment you can create "item loadouts" meaning you can click 2 buttons to automatically remove, order, and add items that you specify. Go to manage pouch(?) in your storage box then click start and click Y or triangle to copy whatever is in your pouch to the loadout. I might be slightly off on the exact buttons to get there but its something like that. You can also rearrange your "item bar" that you cycle through to use items by clicking start going to your item pouch and clicking Y/triangle
@@Pompadourius Eh. Kinda. Its like Monster Hunter World is like after you fallen it offers you hand to get up. While Dark souls breaks you knees so that you cant get up. I mean as in Dark souls breaks your spirit to continue.
Use the radial menu, use it god dammit, a lot just running around like crazy cause they are trying to select a mega potion from the mess of their item pouch. It's a new feature for the console, and it's an absolute life saver. Take some time to get use to it, customized it so u know when and which to use it.
@@hittman1412 you can do either depending on which type of radial menu you select from the options. Type one activates on release, type two activates on click.
Great video. Just reached 1200 hours of MHW and Iceborne. Had a good time playing it during pandemic. Some little more advanced tips I wish I could've learned: 1. Never sell all the monster materials from the start. I especially regret doing this. Cause you may need them later to craft weapons and armors. Or you may end up hunting the similar monster again and again. Especially the gems which are usually hard to get. Of course you can sell them later. You can sell them a few, like around 5-10 if you're running out of Zeni. I would keep mining and sell those ores since you can keep grinding them later during expedition. 2. Save armor spheres for later. I regret using them all from the start. Use them for high rank armors. 3. Study the monster's weakness. You can go talk to Chief Ecologist and click Monster Field Guide. It tells you what each specific monster is weak against. Then you can craft the weapon for that specific monster to give enough elemental damage to counter it. Like Diablos for example, it's heavily weak against ice. So you may need an ice weapon to give more damage. 4. For radial menu, click Options, change Radial Menu Settings and Item Control Settings to Type 2, then go to Customize Radial Menu, then you can change the setup whichever you like. However this is something I missed. I forgot to save the item load out. Go to the item box and save the load out by clicking option then register for load out. This way you won't end up losing the saved version during the fight. 5. Some items can be handy. Bring Astera Jerky (heals red/yellow portion), Nulberry and Health Boost. If you get annoyed by Lunastra for example. You can save the item load out and rename "Lunastra." 6. Prioritize crafting your armors. Get many jewels for set decorations as much as possible. I would highly recommend to do bunch of tempered investigations. These fights can be hard, but if you fire an sos the teammates are usually really good, so this might be probably the easiest way for grinding them. For example Vaal Hazak can be annoying sometimes so what you do is basically having maxed out Effluvia Resistance. You can get it by crafting an armor that has this effect or to find the jewel like Miasma Jewel and add it to your armor. Also maxing out Blight Resistance can be handy when you're dealing with monsters that give you elemental damage. 7. Another way to do is to create the charm and upgrade it to max. This way you don't have to get stressful when you don't have enough slots for upgrades. 8. Tailraider Safari and Argosy port. This way you can grind some materials every time you go out to hunt and come back. 9. Botanical Research Center. I would normally like to drink a regular demondrug, armorskin and immunizer every time I go out for a hunt. In order to drink these, you may need some specific materials like Might Seed, Adamant Seed, Bitterbug and Honey. Ivy and Spiderweb for Pitfall Traps. Thunderbug for Pitfall Traps. Sleep Herb and Parashroom for Tranq Bombs. Mega Nutrients and Mandragora for Max Potions. Godbug and Blue Mushroom for Lifepowders. This is where cultivating gets handy. You can also click Fertilize and expand amount of cultivating or speeding it up. 10. Always bring Max Potions whenever you go out and fight. Have Mandragora and Mega Nutrients into your item slot, that way you can drink up to 5 Max Potions. You can also bring Mega Potions for backup. I once tried to solo Nergigante but at first I died very quick by its super dive while trying to drink a mega potion. Another way to do is speed eating, but you may need a jewel like Gobbler Jewel. 11. Use voucher or gourmet voucher to get the skills like Felyne Safeguard or Insurance. This way you get less chance to fail the quest. For eating, I highly recommend to eat Veggie Platter for Elemental Resistance, especially when you get annoyed by monsters like Deviljho, Teostra or Kirin. 12. This is pretty minor, but try to farm points to get palico armors and layered armors. If you want to look good in front of people. I would just normally keep hunting elder dragons like Nergigante and get Dragon Treasures. Or get Wyvern Tears from large monsters. Another way to do is to do a Beryl farming at Elder's Recess. 13. Familiarize your weapon, try out different weapons and get used to the rhythm of battling. I was slowly getting better by keep dying and got help from bunch of my teammates. Not much to say :)
Huge emphasis on using your armour spheres. They used to be hard to come by in older games but they hand them out like candy from a shady van parked near a school in Monster Hunter World.
I've played Monster Hunter for a while, it's one of my favorite series ever and I'm so glad more people are picking up the series and trying it out. This video is good for new players, but there's definitely a few things you kinda misinformed newer players on. 1) Skills are more important that defense. Yes defense is very important, but other than lance and gl, you're not really meant to take hits. Sure, it happens to everyone, but dodging is the main defense, that's why there's I-frames. Armor skills give you the necessary skills to make the most out of your weapons, so if an armor piece has a skill you want but has lower base def, go with the skill. 2) DON'T always capture. Depending on the item you're trying to get, it may be better to kill the monster than capture. Certain items have higher kill drop rates than capture. 3) All weapons are equally viable and you should try all the weapons at least once before choosing your main. All the weapons have completely different gameplay and some you may end up loving if you get the chance. In MH3U I started with longsword and enjoyed it, but then I started trying other weapons and found I like hammer and sns way more. Main thing is to try them all and once you find a weapon you love stick with it. You'll get better with it the more time you put into it, if you're having trouble, they're plenty of good tutorials on youtube to help out (Gaijin Hunter and Arekkz are my go to's).
Protip for those who don’t know: later in the game you can get powercharms and armorcharms. But 2 of each and upgrade 1 of each. Then equip all 4, the bonuses stack. For those who are skeptical, take your weapon into training and try it for yourself! With smaller numbers it won’t show, so it may not matter for a dual blade user, but it gave me buffs on some of my harder hits with my hammer. And yes, I didn’t just run 2 tests to see this. I ran 3, a control with no buffs, a test with the powertalon and a final test with the powertalon and powercharm. Not much difference, but there is a difference.
I didn't see these in your inventory, so I don't think you know, but the power/armor charm, stacks with the power/armor talon, and you'll want to keep all 4 in your inventory. Also, press option when in the chest and you can save a "load out" for your item pouch with triangle, you can select this load out again to automatically restock any items you've used up and stores anything that's not in your load out automatically, it's just a quick and easy way to store and restock everything. And also, as a side note, when you get to the higher ranks, capturing isn't what you always want to do because some rewards are more commonly obtained by carving, it doesn't really make a huge difference in the big picture, but some people may get pissed if you just assume what they want.
Thanks for the loadout tip. Seriously. I have a regular set that I try to keeps stocked and its a pain when I miss something. This will save me so much hassle lol.
Good video. As a total noob to the game, having owned it since launch, I am finally attempting to play it. Your tips showed me that I was doing everything, absolutely everything wrongly.
@@united1990 Yeah, defender set is there so you can speed your way to Ice Borne. If you're new to monster Hunter in general, I don't recommend using it because you won't really get the full experience with it on.

starting to dip my toes into this game and this vid (along with another that explained different weapon types) is a godsend. i know there will be lot to learn along the way, but having somewhat clear picture what is happening will save a lot of time and frustration. those will come eventually without trying to make things more complicated than need be. cheers!
Even tho this isn’t the first video that helped me with “beginner tips” BUT Datto multiple tips I heard for the first time. If you have the time keep up MH videos.
Tip for quickly offloading stuff from your inventory: on your item box, press "Options" on PS4 (or the equivalent on xbone) to manage your loadouts and register the set of items that you want to use as a loadout. Now every time you go on your inbox, press "Options" again and choose the loadout, this will automatically transfer items you gathered to your box and replenish the stuff you have equipped. It's basically like taking a snapshot of your inventory.
He summed up everything really well, one more tip I would give is find a monster you love fighting and fight that monster for fun over and over again, eventually it will give you rare loot that you can craft good sets from and it wont feel like your zombie grinding because you enjoy hunting it
lol Yeah ever since I got into MH3U and every subsequent game, I've dropped hundreds of hours into these games. There's like no middle ground when it comes to MH. You're either not into it, or it's your entire life. Especially because story has never been the focus of these games, so how you "finish" the game is up to you.
Capturing in some situations isn’t better than killing because there are some items that can only be obtained from carves or give a better chance from carves
+Calvin Curry Keep in mind that if the Gem can drop from broken parts (through the reward screen) capturing is still viable, especially if you have Kirin's 3 piece buff + Legiana 2 piece buff. You raise your % chances from your broken part drops, but you lose the carving chance (so let's say if you break 3 parts of the monster and kill it, there are 4 seperate "tries" to get a Gem, but if you capture it instead you only get 3 "tries" but each one has a higher % due to Kirin's buff on capture)
I think those items can still be obtained via capture. I know one piece in particular I had been farming all last night which only showed via carving I got when I captured.
Highlaw So even though it doesn't show gems under possible rewards, they can be dropped as long as I break the pieces? Thanks. I figured I was stupid for capturing that many, but maybe I was just unlucky.
Yup that's a common noob mistake, capture and hunting depending on the situation. Aka in MH4 laggy sapphire can only be optioned through carve. The same applies here example wyvern genial. Those are good tips but he still has a long way to go.
useful tip: pressing Options button (I guess start on xbox) skips many of the cutscenes - story ones, cooking, as well as exiting the kill-cam once you slay a monster.
500 hours into the game (I'm not good, just love mindless farming) and I can safely say, learn how to superman jump... or dive... or leap..... or whatever. How to do this is run facing away from the monster you're fighting and press dodge button. The i - frames will save your ass a LOT. This is really helpful against all of the one shot moves that will tear your ass faster than ripping toasted bread with butter.
"Start simple" is solid advice, especially on new players. As someone whose played other titles my bigtime advice though is when starting out, play with the weapons. Best thing you can do is try them all to see what suits you! What's simple for one person won't for another. I was a newbie who picked the hunting horn cause it was neat and I enjoyed how it moved and the idea of buffs and that's one of the trickier weapons to master, now it's my go-to main. This game is a whole lot easier to get started on some of the tricky weapons too so don't feel intimidated to try things out!
Good tips for new players, but capturing isn't always better than slaying. For example, Rathian gems can only be acquired from body carves or break rewards, NOT from capture rewards. If you've beaten a monster multiple times and still haven't got what you need, consult the researcher and see where you can get those materials from!
Nathaniel Law You'd be wasting time then, because if you didn't get it from the arena you'd have to go kill / catch another one making it way more efficient to just keep killing rather time wasting into the arena.
PoweredByThor that’s not true. My last Rathian gem was obtained from a hunting investigation which I capped her. You have to make sure you break the corresponding part that gets you the material you need
meximous That's what I said in the original comment. You would have got that reward regardless of whether you capped or slayed. Break rewards and capture rewards are calculated separately from each other.
But arena kills are faster than wild kills and captures are faster than kills. I suppose if you're looking for one specific piece and you're just not having any luck getting it from breaks, you might want to kill for that one extra chance per encounter, but frankly you're gonna need enough materials in the long haul that the basically double rewards for capping and killing in the arena seems way more worth it overall.
You were mentioning in the previous video about what we'd like to see if you were to make more Monster Hunter videos. Now that I don't have to play Fashion Hunter anymore with the addition of skins, I'd be really interested in hearing about any insane or useful armor skill builds you come across!
Full armour sets are attractive but mismatched armour in high rank and above tells you that person knows their shit and likely has a very specific, solid strategy going into a fight.
IMPORTANT TIP FOR CAPTURING MONSTERS: If you forget your traps during a quest go back to your camp, go into the tent and get one from your item box. I’ve seen many people ask if anybody has shock traps in chat and then they get a no response they will leave. I don’t know why but it’s a thing
It's probably a (now bad) habit that has been carried from the old games. Before MHW you couldn't access the chest (nor the canteen) during the missions so you have to be prepared before you start the mission, so if you forgot something like the traps for a cap mission you were screwed. Or they're probably too lazy to fast travel and come back...
Spewky me too i raged so much when i got to anja almost quit for good lol. I was using charged blade from the beginning but after anja i started to build a good bow and glaive for options depending on the monster
@@InnerFire6213 yeah I maines insevt glaive until I got to the point I am now. Hands down best team weapon with healing/buffing options as well as easy mounts and weakness exploitation
Also datto please buy the armor and damage charms the point of crafting them with b52 talons is so you can have twice the effect by buying them again and effectively having two armor and defense charms
You'll gather as you hunt. Focusing on picking every mushroom you see is gonna waste time especially when you have to chase the monster around the map and realize your inventory is full from all the early side gathering you've been doing
Thank you so much, I got this game bundled with my new GPU and while I was having some fun figuring out the tricks with weapons and upgrading etc, I would've completely avoided bounties had it not been for this, thanks!
I mention this in his first video on mh. Specific gems to the monster only drop on part breaks and/or a tail cut or carving the monster. Capturing over all lowers your chances of a gem if you don't get the cut or breaks.
TheMightySwooj You only need to do that once to get the arena quest. He said capturing is the better option and gives more rewards that is not the case.
I started with the charge blade and insect glaive and had no problem using either, in fact I found it easier to use them than some of the other weapons that are more new player friendly
Oddly enough, the Charge Blade is actually pretty easy to use. My issue is I sometimes forget I can build up charges in sword/shield mode for extra damage.
Here's another small tip, the ring around your min-map is an indicator. The ring is non visible at the start of the hunt, before you've seen the monster. It flashes red when in combat with a monster, and turns white when you leave combat, be that either evading the monster and running, or the monster is running and leaving the area. When hiding from a monster while in combat the ring goes purple, and then white once you lose the monster. Additionally, watching the ring is very useful when mounting. When the big the red ring gets bigger, the monster is about to thrash, and you should either move or grip.
important tip for the influx of newer players in wake of the return to world stuff going on: try to avoid using the guardian/defender gear. its meant to the be the power creep equipment intended for returning players to get to iceborne as fast as possible. if you are new, the set will take away the main gameplay loop of monster hunter and set you up for failure in late base game and iceborne when it gives you an unnecessary difficulty spike that wouldnt exist had you played normally.
I'm a mh veteran and I can tell you this video is perfectly on point with how u should begin the game. He has nailed everything to a T. Keep on making good videos bro.
For some dumb reason i picked up the charge blade when starting for the first time. Not very used to games with this style of combat but, I still put in the effort of mastering the combat before anything else. Now barely into the game but I play like a pro. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
As a longtime MH player I have some disagreements about the armor: 1) Skill are THE go-to when choosing armor, you pick one with the skills that suit your playstyle the best. 2) Defense is pretty much secondary, as long as it's appropriate for the rank it's good enough, and elementals can be ignored altogether since you aim not to get hit anyway, especially at G/Master rank where a monster can take a good chunk of your health even with the best defense and elemental res
mtw31993 switch axes bread and butter combo is in sword mode where i think its triangle and circle repeating until the gage runs out. Then you combo into the axe mode and press cirlce for an infinite combo at the cost of your stamina.
I've been almost exclusively a LS main for the past few games but SA is so much fun in World I've played practically the entire game with it. I just love shoving my giant sword in a monster's face and unloading
Although capturing is good for materials, certain rare materials like gems specific to that monster will only drop on carve and breaking. And use the loadouts in the stash instead for microing every consumable.
Not necessarily for gems, as I've gotten gems from both capturing and investigation rewards. However for other materials, such as marrow, then yes. Also, loadouts also save radial loadouts too.
Found a screenshot of gems from capture(not break) just after that post . reddit /r/MonsterHunter/comments/7vk7tl/here_is_proof_that_capturing_give_gems_and_that/
Just think in MHFU the Congalala used to fart and throw poop at you and gave you a stink debuff. If they bring him back in to MHW you can get revenge by throwing poop at him lol
Now THIS is a good beginners guide video that doesnt cover the blatant obvious and actually gives helpful tips about things that arent really covered by the game....like the health line i had no idea. Good video!
I honestly believe bows and guns weapons are amongst the easiest weapons in the games yet also the ones that require a bit of more work. You can use these weapons along with status effects and special effect bullets and arrows to change the flow of the fight making things more interesting and fun. I recomend people do some research on these weapons since these are the ones that would make you feel like a true hunter.
Using dungpods is actually quite stupid, especially since the monsters can finally target each other in MHW. The monsters deal hella lot of damage to each other even by not focusing on them. Also they often drop material when they fight each other, which increases farming capabilities. And lastly, its just frickin satisfying watching big ass dragons fight each other :D
When you're stupid like me and decide to hunt a Rathion before you even leave the Ancient Forest, and her husband Rathalos butts in specifically to murder you.... YOU WANT THE SHIT. SHOOT IT WITH SHIT. In case you were wondering... I actually did get the Rathion. Took half an hour and fainted twice, but by quest standards I passed!
It can be annoying in particular when played ranged and another monster or two butt in and waste ammo. Worse when doing a low time limit investigation and you're trying to dodge around multiple attacks to go for your target.
I started with sword and shield and so far I'm doing great, i move freely, i heal and sprint at same time, it's so easy for me to climb on top of monsters stab them so fast and it's so easy to upgrade, it takes time for example it takes from 5-8 minutes to kill a barroth, kinda long but it's less risky, and u won't be making lotta wrong moves u can dodge anytime and run anytime. So yeah i highly recommend sword and shield. And this is coming from someone who plays a lot f souls games so i know how hard it gets when u can't move freely and when u hit too slow. Just use it and you'll be slaying monsters like a true monster hunter and almost never get hit.
kinda late to the party, so not sure how many people will see this, but I just wanna add 3 things that I think are vital to streamlining certain aspects of the game: 1: Item Loadouts. in your item box, press "Options" (for PS, not sure what the controls for Xbone are) to acces the item loadout menu. This allows you to create a sort of save file of what items you are currently holding. so for example you want to be able to quickly empty your inventory and restock on your consumables. using the item loadout will set your inventory to look exactly as the item loadout is set, granted you have enough items to restock in your box 2: Deliveries. pretty straightforward sometimes instead of people asking you to do a quest, they ask for a delivery. to complete them, talk to the people who give bounties and investigations and go to deliveries. these are how you unlock new base camps, upgrades to the canteen, and other useful items. 3: I had a third thing in mind, but I cant remember after typing the rest of the comment...
Unless the monster you're hunting is leaving the locale soon, I'd pass on the fast traveling. If you're going somewhere, there should be/will be a lot of farming items to do on the way.
Use "Manage Loadouts" from your Manage Items menu instead of manually restocking every Item, that way you can offload everything that you collected from the previous mission and you probably don't need.
As a veteran, I would consider this a pretty good set of tips :) I would rank making item presets higher than simply restocking though. Also, anjanath can be a big wall, so don’t get too frustrated, just do your best and train some more when it comes up. As a note, you CAN kill Tobi-kadachi prior to anjanath, who has a slight weakness to thunder, in addition to the better stats of the Tobi weapons than most beginner stuff. Though for all you try hards (myself included), it is entirely possible to kill anjanath when you first encounter him in the great jagras quest, even in the starting armor and weapons! Sadly, there is no seriously interesting stuff that happens if you take him out there
I was stubborn with my weapon choice when i started out so i stopped playing before getting to high rank. Came back tried out sns and have been tearing high rank apart.
You sound like you leant the hard way, by the way you can use the tent at camp to manage items and craft stuff change gear really no need to return except to collect reward and upgrading
Sorry for some misinformation here, capture and kill loot tables are slightly different. Kill loot tables in high rank include gems, which are rare drops needed for certain items. They do also come from breaking parts of a monster and as potential investigation rewards.
Datto I was going to say something but we are all still learning :)
Everyone should always look in the monster book!
nice catch! glad to see you moving from destiny 2 to mhw, helping out newbies ;)
Meanwhile i spent 30 minutes trying to catch a monster in the first catch mission using the capture net. Yep.

I totally didnt do that before... (Me knowing dang well im lieing)😅

10 hours here until I saw a video about capturing the woodland pteryx.
I've never bothered trying to capture anything yet, but what is the capture net even for if not for capturing monsters?
It took me like 20 hours to figure out that ecological research guy was sitting there...
He blends in so well.
I wouldnt have known he was there until i searched for the field guide still at lvl 0. Lol
I only found him when I was up to kushala on my first play through :O

Things i wishes that i knew, hunters notes? Your best friend. Dung pods? Essential on high tier content. Eating before a quest? No reason to not do and a lot of reasons to DO IT! Weapons? Not all weapons work well with every monster, for example, fighting a diablos or tall monster with my favourite great-sword is not easy as they are either to fast or out of reach. Always keep a steady supply of mega barrel bombs, herbs, honey, potions and mega potions with the auto craft enabled for them.
Never drink potions, save them to make mega potions. Before going on a hunt, check what the monsters are weak to and what damage that they deal, as well as what your armour protects you the most from and what damage that it makes worse (it makes ALL the difference when fighting... lets say a kirin as it can make the difference between a 1 shot from 200 health and a survivable amount of damage)
Use environmental traps and damage effects to get easy large amounts of damage, and keep in mind which monsters turf war with each other for more damage.
Some monsters have special conditions like (will do so and so when situations X happen)
An example is when the hunters notes say a certain type of slinger ammo can break a monsters secondary armour (mainly mud armour or snow armour).
Lastly, learn the move set of the monsters you hunt, be cautious and when you’re certain that you know how they move you can strap on your armour that you know is resistant to their attacks, slot some jewels that prevents their de-buffs and let blunt weapon users go for the heads, sharp weapons for the tails and be mindful that you don’t stagger your teammates (I’m looking at you longsword mains 👀)
Thats all the sagely wisdom that i can offer thats never going to be read on a year old video, enjoy my non existent readers and happy hunting!
I read it all, thank you bb xoxo
THANKS DUDE
I appreciated the time and info you put into this comment, as a brand-new player I will definitely use this. Thank you 😂
Thanks it's all read. This will make my beginning completely different
2020 and this is probably the second most useful thing I've seen regarding to monster hunter as a new player.
Also, tip for people stuck on Anjanath, when it gets fire in it's nose, shoot it with a watermoss. It'll help with that. Watermoss can also be used to clean Barroth's and Jyura's mud off.
That is the most helpful shit I've ever read.
Throwing bombs at ajanath is very useful when running away
I wish I knew that when I first fought it, lol
What? WHAT!?
Thanks
An 8th tip: There is NO pausing in MH, whether single player or MP. So be sure you take care of what you need to BEFORE going on any hunt (Bathroom break, eats, phone calls, etc) or after one.
Best advice in this comment section, I’m so happy rise has an offline mode that allows you to pause when in a hunt
yh i found this out the hard way
Pauses are for the weak, i remember changing my controller batteries during the first Xeno'jiiva fight, the definition of tension 💀
Yeah, I don't know why they didn't include a pause button for offline since previous games had it.
Got pizza/hotpockets and empty bottles 😂 jk
The most important tip: Do NOT use the Guardian armor you get in the beginning. It WILL ruin your experience. (basically enables "god mode")
I didn't know and thought that everyone will have it but then realized why it was so easy. when I first killed an elder dragon I finally replace my Guardian Armour set because it's better
@kkj jkk rn farming for nergigante set, since guardian is now weak
Agreed I ditched it from the start, just went into a nergigante build then currently a hybrid Vaal hazak build and nerg at HR 78
Some people are telling me it's fine some people are not I'm still having fun it's not easy easy I kind of see the problem with using it but idk
@@Valstrax_ sadly i cant play iceborne for whatever reason. i have the master edition, finished the game, and is 16 hr, but fiesty fiver doesn't help. (i play on xbox one btw )
number zero : always remember to sharp your sword after every fight
Cool Rock what if I use a fish?
And remember to eat, the amount of times I forget to eat before going into a battle....
sharpen your hammer beacuse it might be too flat... ( stolen comment from somewhere )
Lol

That works? Neat.
Bro I didnt know this! I have wasted 3 traps on an Anjanath about a week ago :D
I am done with the story and still didn't know this I still play the game if you want to know btw but I have the tranq bombs placed in that menu to get items quick so I haven't failed in a long time
How bout just using the radial menu?
That works assuming you didn't take too long to follow the monster and set up your plan. If they rest enough to no longer be tired, you done goofed.
I'm surprised people are struggling with capturing in world as they made it a joke. Stun traps are nearly instant to deploy, last an age and have an activate radius the size of the screen. You no longer have to hit the monster with tranq bombs, instead can just splash it around in their general vicinity... Radial menu that lets you instantly activate items.. xD you kids got it easy
When I first started playing I wish I knew to pet the poogie before each hunt for good luck.
I'm just glad more ppl are seeing the beauty of monster hunter

Yes finally I taught I had to comment this
"Start Simple"
Me: **Immediately uses Charge Blade**
Me: I'm really stubborn eh?
Same
I picked the charge blade at the start to, but to be honest I found it more easy then other things like the long sword or the duel blades XD
If you can master it its better then all of the weapons even the lance, combo remembering isn’t as hard as people say with cb.
I use the charge blade or switch axe when I want to kill monsters quickly, I like the switch axe a lot more though.
"Certain monsters cannot be captured (namely Elder Dragons)" oh snap don't let the Commander hear that
came here after 100 hours+ and guess what, i started with the charge blade. I love this weapon so much!
Ive started with normal bow, im not a huge sword and shield fan so im working on a potential melee weapon to use
Switch axe and bow are my favorites
Robert Chew you sir are a saint. Pity that won't help with shock trap restocking though lol.
Press options instead and load a pre created item loadout, will also empty any stuff not needed
Good tip
I've always wanted to see your content style applied to games outside Destiny. Great stuff.
Also, nice.
Steps for a new player in late 2019:
1. Download free Guardian Armor.
2. Put on free Guardian Armor.
3. WIN
How do you find that??
Nope. Armors already fully upgraded. Im not new to monster hunter so with that armor i was able to solo every low rank monster without much difficulty.
Richard Jacob you can buy it from the armory
as a newcomer to monster hunter and a recipient of said armor... yes
死の一撃 [deathblow] completely false
Some tips from a veteran Monster Hunter:
I usually stayed with the bowgun 'til HR.
Fingers crossed that Datto will make more MHW videos...
QU67 I wish he would make videos about warframe. It's a great game in my opinion
CancerInfantry I agree. I don't even play Warframe anymore but I wouldn't mind seeing him play it.
0__0 oh, it's a Resident Evil style health display.
There's always something new to learn I guess.
Mfw i didnt know that either until after 20 hours
I played 200 hrs and I thought that it was some kind of "aggro" indicator
That’s just how bad the game is at communicating with the player what its supposed to mean. This game is very unclear about so many things (locations, objectives, affinity???), it’s frustrating, and yep, I read the tutorial tips whenever they pop up.
what bar? lol am i blind? This is like the 10th video i watch about MH and i can't find the enemies' health bar yet! Where is it? I looked at the bottom left but there is just the circle map radar
Tip those yellow glowing big things on top of some trees can be grappled onto, not to be mistaken with the thunder bug though
This^ since I figured out about these little buggers I've had an easier time moving around and triggering environmental traps. They are great.
Cobra_9041 yes people dont forget about wedge beetles in the trees they've saved my life quite a few times.
Some side notes:
Any weapon works and has its unique perks.
8. Palico. Rely on that adorable cat
He has saved my life more times then I can count.
Onion Wolf THANK YOU. I was getting tired of my potions and megas being so far apart!!!
What are item load outs? Im new and i see this mentioned a lot.
I feel like I just started a game that is going to really piss me off and take half my life away
If you have played dark souls games its not so hard then even for soloing.

You can save the item load out and rename "Lunastra."
"You don't have to dive headfirst into harder weapons like the charge blade" me in the corner starting off with the lvl 1 charge blade
Oh hey, that's pretty helpful, thanks.
Thanks !
Good to know vets are still as charitable as ever! ;^D
Thanks for the loadout tip. Seriously. I have a regular set that I try to keeps stocked and its a pain when I miss something. This will save me so much hassle lol.
I'm very new to the game and I always find myself full in inventory, this will be super helpful. Thanks!
Watching videos like this are the only way I'm getting by with my Monster Hunter fix until the PC version is released
If you have a 3DS I'd go back to Generations, 4U or for a different twist on the series try out Stories
Seriously dude.

Sea of Thieves is so derift of content that I'm already bored of it.

Good video. As a total noob to the game, having owned it since launch, I am finally attempting to play it. Your tips showed me that I was doing everything, absolutely everything wrongly.

I know this is a 10 month old comment but THANKS BRUH, THANKS. You've made my life so much easier with this tip!
He summed up everything really well, one more tip I would give is find a monster you love fighting and fight that monster for fun over and over again, eventually it will give you rare loot that you can craft good sets from and it wont feel like your zombie grinding because you enjoy hunting it

The hunter: "I wanna throw shit at it"
I wish I knew what I was getting into when I first started playing. Now it's an addiction.
lol Yeah ever since I got into MH3U and every subsequent game, I've dropped hundreds of hours into these games. There's like no middle ground when it comes to MH. You're either not into it, or it's your entire life. Especially because story has never been the focus of these games, so how you "finish" the game is up to you.
😂😂lol, it happens in monster hunter.
Capturing in some situations isn’t better than killing because there are some items that can only be obtained from carves or give a better chance from carves
TheOznow I spent all evening capturing legianas since I need 2 gems, only to go read the monster field guide and find they are carve rewards.
Those are good tips but he still has a long way to go.
useful tip: pressing Options button (I guess start on xbox) skips many of the cutscenes - story ones, cooking, as well as exiting the kill-cam once you slay a monster.
nick mckenzie. I get the first and third one,but why would you want to skip those palicos cook?
Double tap circle (B on Xbox) to skip a character's dialogue
Wow, Im not a newbie, but I never knew you could skip that kill cam! Thanks!
im late but armor crafting too
85hrs in and I was not aware of that last one lol
PoweredByThor can't you just kill them in the arena afterwards then?
Rosie the Marauder But but... looking like an abomination is a universal sign in MH series that you mean business and are an expert.
Hahahaha! So true. Assuming you need that extra crutch at all to perform well
Full armour sets are attractive but mismatched armour in high rank and above tells you that person knows their shit and likely has a very specific, solid strategy going into a fight.
He can also discuss thing like how to use the map to your advantage because the environment is also vital in a hunt.
If you need/want affinity strategist glasses with Odogaran armour is good.
IMPORTANT TIP FOR CAPTURING MONSTERS: If you forget your traps during a quest go back to your camp, go into the tent and get one from your item box. I’ve seen many people ask if anybody has shock traps in chat and then they get a no response they will leave. I don’t know why but it’s a thing
really? i havent noticed that.
Darius Girtman I don’t know if it just happens to me but just in case you know?
Thanks mate !

I call him beetle juice

Dimensional Dot The b52 reference holy shit I was just talking to my friend about that 😂😂😂
That piece of shit and its capet bombing tactics are so annoying sometimes.
Main objective on every mission is gathering. Hunting the monster is secondary.
No?
I wanna play *monster hunter* world, not picking flowers world
You'll gather as you hunt. Focusing on picking every mushroom you see is gonna waste time especially when you have to chase the monster around the map and realize your inventory is full from all the early side gathering you've been doing
@@hesoyam881 If your somewhat good and you dont do G rank. you kill monster solo in 10-20 Minutes, with a time frame of usually 50 Minutes.

"This becomes especially handy later in the game when dealing with the B-52. If you don't know what the B-52 is..." damn :) :) :) :) :)
Capturing isn’t always better than killing, some things can only be in bonus rewards if you kill, and some only if you capture
I mention this in his first video on mh. Specific gems to the monster only drop on part breaks and/or a tail cut or carving the monster. Capturing over all lowers your chances of a gem if you don't get the cut or breaks.
Cody Braley I think he said to capture because of thr arena
TheMightySwooj You only need to do that once to get the arena quest. He said capturing is the better option and gives more rewards that is not the case.
Is this confirmed for sure? as you can definitely still get gems from capture
Not necessarily. They have different loot tables, so if you wanted a specific drop, it could be better to kill.
I started with the charge blade and I dont regret it... " took me 2 days to figure out how to properly use it"
Here's another small tip, the ring around your min-map is an indicator.

As a longtime MH player I have some disagreements about the armor:
1) Skill are THE go-to when choosing armor, you pick one with the skills that suit your playstyle the best.
2) Defense is pretty much secondary, as long as it's appropriate for the rank it's good enough, and elementals can be ignored altogether since you aim not to get hit anyway, especially at G/Master rank where a monster can take a good chunk of your health even with the best defense and elemental res
Button mashing is not the answer? Switch Axe wild swing begs to differ.
mtw31993 switch axes bread and butter combo is in sword mode where i think its triangle and circle repeating until the gage runs out. Then you combo into the axe mode and press cirlce for an infinite combo at the cost of your stamina.

But can't you just kill them in the arena afterwards? Then you get your carve *and* the capture rewards.
I've definitely gotten gems from capturing. I think you can get everything from capturing, though we still don't know what has the best drop rates.

It's useful for monsters that are actually targetting you, like the afforementioned B52
@@necromancer2367 B52 is often quite helpful
When you're stupid like me and decide to hunt a Rathion before you even leave the Ancient Forest, and her husband Rathalos butts in specifically to murder you.... YOU WANT THE SHIT. SHOOT IT WITH SHIT.
In case you were wondering... I actually did get the Rathion. Took half an hour and fainted twice, but by quest standards I passed!
It can be annoying in particular when played ranged and another monster or two butt in and waste ammo. Worse when doing a low time limit investigation and you're trying to dodge around multiple attacks to go for your target.
Monster fights are always a spectical, Still, I do see the use in chasing them off time to time
I started with sword and shield and so far I'm doing great, i move freely, i heal and sprint at same time, it's so easy for me to climb on top of monsters stab them so fast and it's so easy to upgrade, it takes time for example it takes from 5-8 minutes to kill a barroth, kinda long but it's less risky, and u won't be making lotta wrong moves u can dodge anytime and run anytime. So yeah i highly recommend sword and shield. And this is coming from someone who plays a lot f souls games so i know how hard it gets when u can't move freely and when u hit too slow. Just use it and you'll be slaying monsters like a true monster hunter and almost never get hit.
hey datto, I think a lot of people (including myself) would like to see some live gameplay, maybe with friends or even alone
Suit up your palico as well, ex. if you run hammer and you give your palico a sword, he will sever limbs for you. My 0.02$
kinda late to the party, so not sure how many people will see this, but I just wanna add 3 things that I think are vital to streamlining certain aspects of the game:
1: Item Loadouts. in your item box, press "Options" (for PS, not sure what the controls for Xbone are) to acces the item loadout menu. This allows you to create a sort of save file of what items you are currently holding. so for example you want to be able to quickly empty your inventory and restock on your consumables. using the item loadout will set your inventory to look exactly as the item loadout is set, granted you have enough items to restock in your box
2: Deliveries. pretty straightforward sometimes instead of people asking you to do a quest, they ask for a delivery. to complete them, talk to the people who give bounties and investigations and go to deliveries. these are how you unlock new base camps, upgrades to the canteen, and other useful items.
3: I had a third thing in mind, but I cant remember after typing the rest of the comment...

Unless the monster you're hunting is leaving the locale soon, I'd pass on the fast traveling. If you're going somewhere, there should be/will be a lot of farming items to do on the way.
Capturing is not always better than killing. If youre going for gems/plates its usually better to carve since certain items are only carve rewards.
Gems and plates arent carve only
this has to be the best "tips i wish i knew before i started" vid ive ever watched
Use "Manage Loadouts" from your Manage Items menu instead of manually restocking every Item, that way you can offload everything that you collected from the previous mission and you probably don't need.
That ecological guy been waiting for me for a long damn time 😂...once I met him my life got a lot more easier
These tips not only helped but got me hyped to get back on another hunt
