  • Enjoy a smooth landing at JFK airport with the best view of the mighty GE90 engine while we fly past Rockaway beach and Jamaica Bay with beautiful reflection of the sky during final approach. After the smooth touchdown, feel free to continue enjoying the view of GE90 and cargo area of JFK during the taxi to gate at Terminal 7. It is also interesting to mention Japan Airlines and ANA both have a flight from HND to JFK departing and arriving at the same time every morning, so you will see the 777-300ER operating JL6 landing just behind us, and followed us for the majority of our taxi on its way to terminal 8.

@@MqLei I thought so because I've recently been on an overnight flight from New York JFK back to London Heathrow 3 Weeks ago also on a Boeing 777-300ER with British Airways and it was just around over 6 hours long but a bit quicker. The reason why is because of the tailwind the plane got from behind us across the Atlantic.

reverse thrust was engaged a bit too long eh?

In my experience, that’s actually normal. When exiting the runway they were using idle reverse thrust, so it doesn’t make too much difference

@@MqLei interesting... its been my experience that reverse thrust and speed brakes are cancelled before exiting the runway. I've never seen them active exiting to taxiway

@@naeemahangarzadeh9959 Technically you're not supposed to do configuration changes on the runway. Most captains, including me, stow the speed-brakes as you turn off the runway. The first officer retracts the flaps. As for the reverse thrust, unless needed you should be at reverse idle by 60 kts. There's no need to be out of reverse before you exit the runway. Cheers

@@gerardmoran9560 thank you for the info! I guess every time I noticed the reverse doors were always closed before exiting the runway. It was a natural assumption that was the protocol

@@naeemahangarzadeh9959 You're right. They usually are, but if you're exiting on a high-speed turnoff lots of guys/gals leave them at reverse idle. Procedurally, you can leave them in reverse idle as long as you want.
