    I followed your recommendation with the crate in the room and in sight when my dobie was a puppy! I was expecting to be up atleast a few times that first night but I woke up at my normal time, completely shocked- he hadn’t made a peep all night! Never had any sleeping issues or a single accident in his crate, he still loves it to this day. Thank you!!

    Just adopted a rescue female Doby somewhere around 10 months, v challenging, she was underfed, never walked before being dumped at the rescue centre, a week in a dramaitic change, she is so smart she understands what you want so quickly, still some anxiety, lead pulling, jumping and mouthing but reducing day on day, i want to get her gene tested, am waiting for her to relax more before going to the vets, of note she patrols my home and garden every day with a purposeful slow walk, listening and checking everything, just on instinct she is guarding the place 😂

    I probably made a massive mistake: adopt a 1yr old male from the pound, sight unseen. He loved us so much, we rescued him, but wow he was aggressive to visitors. After a year and a half, we did 5 in-house training sessions, with an e-collar. What a difference. Such a good boy.

    We adopted a 1 year old through a rescue organization, 8 months ago. It has taken him this full 8 months to decompress from unknown before us. We all know how important those early weeks are. With the advice of our Vet, we decided that he was very immature for his age and needed to be taken back to those early weeks (not as easy when they are 30 pounds but still doable). Taking your advice, he is on a very strict "schedule". He eats at the same time, gets up and goes to bed at aproximately the same time, his outside potty time is consistant and tons of praise. The aggressive tendenancies we were seeing are all but gone now and he is settling down very well. We train off and on during the day (simple things) and play games, as you suggest. Still a struggle to do nails but he seems to enjoy having his teeth and gums brushed (LOL GROOMING!!!) but we get through it without any aggression, just tantrums. Thank you for all of your video's.... YOU ROCK!!!!

    We have our Dober puppy 2 weeks now. But the nipping and the biting, it's frustrating sometimes. Sharp little teeth. We do the feeding stuff, we do something else every single day a short trip, we crate. I do use time outs when he bites and i say no but he is still going. We let him sleep in our bedroom in a crate. Did not cry ones. Perfect.

    The 2.5yr old Doberman male we rescued was kept in his kennel 20+hrs a day for first 2.5yrs of his life! So we had to put him in an expensive nice bed gated only in the halway on both sides. He stayed but destroyed the walls and like 6 beds! So anxiety may not be visable (he was very quiet in there but was very destructive!). He ate like 3 full pair of shoes too! We have 4 tiny dogs that sleep on the bed and so i let him too. When he is in the way and i need to turn over he is trained when i say: jax get up! And he stands while i turn over. Then turns in a circle and lays bk down.

    9 month old male american doberman here. Im currently faced with a challenge to stop him from chewing on car parts…. Sourapples worked for a second til he got use to the taste. He will literally chew on the front bumper. He has plenty of chew toys inside and outside the house. Yes he gets exercise morning and night(bike rides going full speed) atleast 30 minutes daily. I would hate to have him locked up or on a leash while I go to work.

      You mean like a bumper? So strange. One of my dobe's used to scratch up and nose around my car sometimes. I discovered mice under the hood and chipmunks also would run and hide under the car. Right up in wheel wells and such. So the dobe was trying to get them of course and could cause some damage to the car. I've seen another dog Belgian malinois do the same. Maybe smells the rodents. It's a thought.

    Have you guys ever thought making a video about common doberman mixes? The doberman is pretty much all I want in a dog, however I am still a bit hesitant about getting a pure breed dobie due to the extreme separation anxiety induced by a vacation (although last week's video both showed me that there are hacks for it and introduced me to some new fears as well) , I have been trying to research common mixes that might reduce the extreme attachment a tad, but some resources are either focused on other breeds and base their doberman knowledge in stereotypes or have close to no information about potential behavioral traits. I was wondering if someone in the community might have either experience or better insight about doberman hybrids.

    I have a question about sleep training. I don’t mind to sleep close to my Doberman. However, eventually, Doberman would be sleeping on the first floor and not in our bedroom. If he was trained during the first few nights about seeing me sleeping next to him (or close to him), would that have the separation anxiety once I move him down to the first floor? My wife won’t approve for any animals in our room so either I sleep on the floor or couch or no Doberman :(

      Would she be open to having your dog on a doggy bed at the front corner of your bed?
      In the arts of raising a puppy, I read the monks suggest for the first night to have your puppy, on a doggy bed, with a collar and leash tethered to the bed, one to help reduce anxiety, but to also limit them, wandering off and make a mess in the middle of the night
      Maybe you can do that

      @mairm2851 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We put in a SportDog invisible fence system around 1 acre of our 2.5-acre property almost 3 years ago before getting our Dobe. We rescued him when he was 2 years old and he had never been on an invisible fence system. He learned it very quickly using the lowest tone only setting. He knows every square inch of his property and has a high prey drive. Even so, he would not think of stepping outside the boundaries even though deer, coyotes, opossums, and rabbits continually transit the yard when he's not out there. We also live on a main road. I researched people's experiences of Dobes on invisible fences quite a bit before we got our dog and system, and most owners' Dobes were very respectful of the system. We did use a higher quality fence wire to ensure no animals could easily chew it and disengage the system. Good luck!

Completely agree with the other commenter who's happy with their decision. Only thing to remember is it doesn't stop intruders. After having my fence for YEARS no issues with unwanted visitors until JUST recently. My neighbor got a doberman puppy who is now one year old. Imagine of all breeds a doberman LoL. Anyway the owner hasn't any fence and expects his dog to just stay in it's yard. He's visited my doberman 4 times now Crossing a busy street and coming into my yard. I wouldn't even mind that much if they would be friends, but this young dog is aggressive and on the 5 visit attacks my 3 year old. Miraculously not too much physical damage was done, but I'm not a happy person after that event. That guy definitely needs INVISIBLE FENCE. 😣

      So sorry you are struggling with this, Danny! Hiring a canine behaviorist would be the best route to go with this situation. A behaviorist could see your Doberman and his environment in-person, and observe the subtle signs he gives off during his interactions. Behavior modification, as is necessary with your situation, is also something where typically the best approach is to test the dog in different ways, see how he reacts, observe his triggers, and then develop a plan. Hope this helps!

      Danny I went through this with my female doberman, I had trainers come to my house to try and help, I reached out to every person online to try and help and nothing worked, I started exercising her with walking around the neighborhood, which is hard it takes 2 of us because she is very strong and pulls then I ran her in the backyard with frisbees, this made the world of difference, people kept telling me to exercise her and I thought I was but it wasn't enough so she stayed aggressive, now she is a different dog, I know your frustration, I paid 4000 for her and was going to sell her for 100 because I was scared she would hurt someone but she mainly attacked us in the home and we was loving, try to exercise him a lot, I know people was telling me to do this and I kept saying I am but it was not near enough, my dobie is like a different dog now just with more exercise, a tired dog is a good dog, my vet told me to put mine down and now she is the perfect dog, it took me until she was 8 months to realize she just needed more activity, mine doesn't like toys much so she was really bored and would attack, you might see my comments on this channel before where I was dealing with this, like I said my vet, the breeder everyone was telling me put her down and now I cannot tell you enough how amazing mine is now, I hope this helps

I don't know if you know of Beckman's channel but he recently had an amazing video of his dobe Prince defending his other dog friend from a crazy dobe. Prince is an exceptional dog. Late happy Easter too.

    Nice advert. As a dog trainer the tips are great and you clearly love dobermans as do I, so it baffles me as to why you would cut the ears and tail off something you loved for cosmetic reasons ? And theres no excuses, remember Im a professional trainer so you know dobermans raise through blood vessels naturally to form shell to take in sound when alerted and flop to keep out debris such as insects or grass seeds or infection otherwise, and a tail is an extension of the spine for balance and co ordination so unless there is injury theres no excuse for docking, and dont even go there with the tail hitting cupboards while working or getting exited there is no excuse for butchering a dog working or not I do them all.. you americans have a lot of catching up to do when it cones to animal cruelty, YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER AND SHOULD BE AN ADVOCATE FOR DOBERMANS ! You cannot enter a docked doberman in crufts as when they are docked they are no longer a pedigree either. I hope your laws are changed soon to bring you up to date with ours in the UK. Horrific ! Would you do it to your child ? No, so you cant be that much of a doberman lover
