      They are both stunning. The prophet just came out and I'm beyond impressed with the work they did on this. It was a total of 4 years in between each release, they really took their time with it and the level of detail and professionalism shows. It's fantastic

    I too, though appreciating the points favour the direct panel layouts and clean art.
    It reminded me of the decision Moore and Gibons took on Watchmen - to keep illustration as a servant of story, rather than 'art' in and of itself (though it did end up that way anyway).
    It might almost be nice to have each books illustrated by a different person (I liked the way things like Nemesis and Judge Dredd swapped in and out of different hands from story to story as a kiddo, for example).

    I love this man, and I love his passion for DUNE.
    I'm 100 percent in for everything DUNE. I rewatched DUNE, David Lynch, 1984, and It was, as I remembered appealing to me.
    I saw an alternate cut of the film, but if I ever would have been bothered by the pacing, this cut certainly smoothed that over. That's not the point though. I believe. That is the point I am a believer.
    If you read all of that, you are definitely a DUNE fan.

    Sorry, have to brag,Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson are two of our very good friends. My SO was Kevin's transcriptionist (he 'writes' as he hikes.) and therefore all the Anderson parts of the "Herbert/Anderson" House books were typed in out kitchen. SO was the first set of eyes to see them in print. They introduced SO once at a panel and had them stand. They got a massive ovation and I grinned like the Cheshire cat. They are great people. And nearly ALL off it came from five unknown computer discs Frank had placed in a safety deposit box, until the back called a said, "What do you want us to do with this stuff in the safety deposit box?" It was the notes and even wholly realized scene from the NEXT set of "Dune" novels he'd had in the works. They had no idea they existed, and it included the entire Atriede/Harkonnen (It's 'HARK-eh-nun' btw, the movie got it right) family tree. And thus, new 'Dune' books.

    Quinn, thank you so much for your channel. It’s great to see that I’m not the only one with a colossal interest in the “Dune” series of books by Frank Herbert! I’ve lost count of the number of times that I’ve read the series along with many of the other books that weren’t written by FH but covered more of the details.
    However I always leave the hard book editions at home and take the main book plus one other when when going on exercise, or more of the set when on long operations (the multi month type in other countries).
    The books from the main books have been a source of relaxation throughout my 28-year military career, such that most of my book collection of the series are now on their 10th, or more, replacements.
    It’s mainly due to the numerous reading by all the guys in my company - it’s important for the OIC to help with his mens morale, and these books appeared to be enjoyed by everyone (a bit suspect as most Bootnecks aren’t shy about about sharing their feelings, even with the OIC, but they always seemed keen for the next book of the series!).
    In this respect I found that the chaps in my company enjoyed reading them and looked forward to reading the next book in the series. It’s not the fault of the publication company, because there are very few man made items that are Bootneck Proof! I imagine that it’s the same with our brothers across the pond in the USMC?!

    One of the things I loved about Lynch's adaptation was how anti-tech it looked....like he took the First Commandment in the OC Bible to heart for the movie's visual style, "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind. "
    How does the tech come across in the graphic novel, Quinn?

    The Dune Graphic Novel maybe more dialogue driven which gives the artwork a newspaper comic strip vibe. . on the other hand the artwork for Dune House Atreides is far more eye catching as the plot is more action driven.

    Wow, this is such a cool idea though. I agree from what I can see I wish the art was a bit more mystical.. less traditional western style.. i just got into the books this year though. • @AConnorDN38416
    @AConnorDN38416 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I totally agree on the art from what I can see. From what I can tell, it looks like they rely heavily on the dialogue for the story-telling rather than the art, which I think takes away from the appeal of telling the story through a visual medium. So much of Dune is the politics of the various factions that I feel like it would be a challenge to avoid pages with lots of lengthy word bubbles, to be fair.

Now the graphic novel the metabarons has a realistic look but isn't clean, though very beautiful. I think that dame artwork would have been perfect for the graphic novel. Not this clean, non gritty look, it doesn't make me excited to jump back in and inspect it visually.

  • @fegu
    @fegu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The drastic contrast between the just panels used in both graphic novels alone is crazy, and LOW is not the only one who gets it, the best graphic novels understand there's no point in making a great book into something visual if you're going to be boring with the visuals. Otherwise what is really the point? Just stick to the book. This Dune graphic novel just has grids and grids of rectangles after rectangles, and worse yet is that the "camera" is always at the most boring angle possible. That's a big one for me, when the artists don't give you creative and dynamic angles. As you said, not very cinematic
