Ivan Vojt except neither of those cheap wannabes are actually established luxury vehicles or a Cadillac. Neither of them have an engine this refined, a 9-speed transmission, and with this level of build quality and materials. Stay in your lane. Of course the Hyundai and KIA costs less. If they were priced identically to the Cadillac XT6, nobody would buy them. Hyundai doesn’t compete with Cadillac or even ANY luxury marque for that matter so what sense does it make to compare their prices? Zero, is the answer.
@@mybro727 A parts bin engine & transmission, comparable infotainment, known reliability issues (see parts bin), you do get an upgraded suspension for an extra 20-30K? I never implied they were "comparable" just that you could get two in the same segment for the price of one. for 53K how many XT6's will Cadillac sell / lease?
Ivan Vojt what does it being in other GM vehicles have to do with how good or much more refined of an engine and transmission it is than what’s found in the cheaper Hyundais?? Nothing. Lol. Yeah, let’s talk about the known reliability issues of GM and Hyundai engines. You actually believe you’ll win that argument with Hyundai/KIA engines exploding and bursting into flames brand new 4 days after driving them off the dealership lot? GM’s 3.6L V6 engine will be more reliable than anything off a Hyundai production floor at the moment especially their 3.6. You’re snorting crack and sound like a hater.
Great review as always, Tom! I’m not sold on this model. I think the asking price is FAR too high ($70k!?) and it’s gets the same fuel economy as the much larger and more powerful Escalade. If I was in the market for a vehicle like this the price alone is something that would make me stay away. I’d “cross shop” this with the corporate cousin Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride, maybe a BMW X5, and other models. While the XT6 is impressive (and I will give it the benefit of the doubt), I’m not thrilled about its already outdated-looking interior. I’m sure many of those plastics will start to squeak after a few family trips to the beach.
That montage married to the music at @01:35? You keep impressing me. I hate how slooooow the gauge swap is, but I guess it **is** a Cadillac. The Commonwealth sucks re: speeding! I like it. I don’t think it’ll take off but, I like it!
I know it’s not, but this comes off as close to a badge engineered Chevy traverse, same engine and platform. The inside is identical to the cheaper xt5. I love Cadillac but this doesn’t appear competitive at all.
My thoughts exactly! Yes there is some distinction in terms of design and engineering with the latest slew of GM SUVs and crossovers, but there's still too much overlap in terms of features and powertrains! Cadillac has exclusive engines and platforms but they chose the easy (cheap) way at entering the lucrative 3-row luxury segment! While the XT6 is a solid SUV, it simply brings nothing to the segment worth giving it a second look!!!
As much as I don't care for digital gauges, it needs to be available here. The gauges look cheap and doesn't have the same gravitas versus the digital cockpits in Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and notable recently, Lincoln.
Hey Tom. Glad to see you in the DMV. Yeah VA is quite strict regarding speeding rules. Anyway, I think this is a nice vehicle. GM's pricing structure still baffles me on most of their lines now.
You are one of the best automotive reviewers on TH-cam, providing amazing levels of detail - except one important drivetrain detail: Transversely mounted engine or Longitudinally mounted engine. Did your sponsor (Cadillac) specifically prohibit you from mentioning this, and the competing Ford Explorer/Lincoln Aviator?
Cadillac REALLY needed to introduce this last year or 2 years ago. With the new Kia on the low Asian side, the Lincoln Aviator on the American end,and the BMW X5 and X7 as well as the Mercedes Benz GLE on the German end, you could throw a rock and hit a choice in this segment that's as good or better. There's almost no reason to look at an XT6 right now.
Cadillac PAID this reviewer for a good review. Paid his trip and hotel. Makes sense why this review is so positive and why the Lincoln Aviator is not even mentioned when he mentions other competitors.
He made this review 3 weeks ago. It would be unfair to compare the XT6 to the Aviator when he hasn't driven and player with the Aviator a little bit. Watch his Aviator review. He's fair I think.
C'mon people! Most ppl comment, cannot afford a Caddy to start with! If you could, you would know that More are being leased than sold outright! 2 years ago, i had a New ATS and Now an new XT5 which i love and next year another New One! Go ahead and buy your other Choices! You will pay Lots More and not get the Care and Maintenance Program Cadillac Offers! I have never owned a New Luxury Vehicle that treats and cares for my Vehicle like Cadillac!
This is a huge fail for Caddy .. An overpriced and gussied up GMC Acadia and very underwhelming in style and interior .. One could buy a much better choice for $25k less and have a better warranty too . I'm thinking the Palisade and Telluride and save serious cash .. They both look better in and out as well . Cadillac is dying and think unless it reinvents itself it will be a gonner ...
So this XT6 has a very different wheelbase and trackwidth than any Chevy model? Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW, all basic RWD, this Cadillac should have been RWD and AWD (optional) too imo
Tom, I love your reviews. But have to quibble with your point about sharing it not sharing an "architecture" with the Traverse. They (including the Buick Enclave, Chevy Blazer and GMC Acadia) are all based off the GM C1XX Epsilon platform. You can debate whether that means anything in this day/age, as VW has shown with MQB you can take a single platform and scale it to tons of different vehicles at different price points. But trying to differentiate an architecture from a platform seems more like marketing speak to me.
Even if it could go down the same assembly line the difference in size is allot more than just rebadging it. Do you think they took a Traverse/Enclave and just hack sawed the running rails for the shorter Blazer/XT6? The floor pan is different along with the supports for a smaller design to withstand roof load tests. The obvious to the eye is the sheet metal of which none is shared. The XT6 will have some sort of adapticlve shock that the Traverse does not have so the susenpsinon geometry will change from the subframe down. The engine bay and supports are probably very similar unless there will be a 400 hp Vsport version. All of the suspension tuning will be different also. That goes to the closer Acadia too....
73k? I love Cadillac but they are losing their mind. Great aesthetic ruined by cheap materials and bad motor. Put a 5.3 in it and finish that interior.
Isiah Davis 6.2 would be amazing. I think that motor would be more appropriate in a sport model of the new Chevy Blazer. I’ve had enough of these 4 and 6 cylinder SUV’s
@@wiibaron I guess that is true to a certain point. I would not hesitate buying from the domestic market if they would end up providing a quality product for a competitive price. Finally, more likely, the consumer wallet is the one who would appreciate my comment advice.
The only frustrating thing about this car is the powertrain. I don't have a problem with the 3.6, it's probably the best naturally aspirated 6 cylinder left on the market that isn't a Porsche engine...but there should be something a bit...more? Like, whatever happened to the turbo 3.6 from the XTS Vsport? This would be a perfect home for it. Other than that, standard equipment seems fine, it's a really handsome design, if not exceptionally eye-catching, and the interior looks nice and well built from this and other videos that I've seen. Well executed, now it just needs a powertrain option with more shove!
the 3.6 is the worst v6 on the market. They are mechanics favorite engines because of how much money it makes them. I always see vehicles with that engine in shop. Its sad because the engine it replaced was hands down the best engine ever built
I can tell you that Palisade is very nice but the Cadillac has better tech and materials (real wood and carbon fiber). The Cadillac handles and rides better too.Is it worth the extra money? Only a buyer can tell.
Well considering that many Kia and Hyundai dealerships are adding significant 2nd stickers to Telluride and Palisade and GM tends to set MSRP very high for significant negotiations I'm not sure how big that difference really is. And the interior materials on the Cadillac are better (and real). The Kia is very good for the price though.
This is on the C1XX platform, along with the the Enclave, Traverse, XT5, Acadia and Blazer. This thing really is just a sugar coated Acadia (due to the size and seating config). FWD on a high end vehicle is just laughable, and that engine is in no way sufficient for this thing, but its the best they can do for a FWD platform. This thing needed to be designed from the ground up to be more SUV like and be RWD, but no that would make too much sense for GM. Ford made the right call with bringing the Explorer back to RWD and with that the new Aviator. Also the luxuries of this being a 3 row crossover die real quick when you can't get a bench or console in the second row, putting it in a weird spot of "it can only seat one more than a vehicle 20% smaller and has the same powertrain (XT5)". Overall this thing is a waste and the lincoln aviator is going to put this thing in its place. GM needs to either ditch this platform or modify it to take RWD and the new 2.7L turbo or they are gonna lose hard in this CUV market, at all levels.
If the back seats have a composition of reinforced carbon fiber frames with one-or-two thin main Aluminum rim-frames and thin innovative cushioning covering the entire individual seat each, would make the overall back seats even lightweight and pleasing for passengers to sit in. Thin cushioning design by using an advanced version of an integrated mesh-like patches of cushioning setup of each patch customary differentiate to adjust for the weight pressure of each part of the human anatomy. A kind of "bucket seat design" for the back seats. Lean looking back seats but very comfortable for passengers to sit in. Purpose? To make back seats more ergonomically incline design language as more appealing in aesthetics thus giving the interior cabin room itself even more space available for passenger maneuverability.
This doesn't use a different architecture than the Traverse because it's a shorter version of it. GM loves to lie like they redid a whole platform for one car.
@@james2042 it's the same platform the shorter version of the the Traverse/Enclave. New springs and slightly longer ain't a new platform. Of that's the case Ford escape and Lincoln MKC/Corsair isn't on the same platform. The Lincoln is wider and longer. Nothing wrong with platform sharing I just wish GM wouldn't lie to make Cadillac seem better. they did this with the srx/ xt5.
I really wanted Cadillac to come up with something to compete with the Aviator. This is not it. I dig the exterior. If this one had more power, RWD/AWD, magnetic ride control, and super cruise around this price range. It would've been better.
Me when I see this car 🤦🏾♂️ I’m going to take a huge guess and say the new corvette took GMs development budget....that has to be it. I have very low confidence for the new Escalade.....
Well first you have to be informed enough to know that Cadillac has its own budget separate from GM as a whole. They made this move a while ago. Secondly Cadillac has excellent quality levels and materials you have to just sit in one. Finally it is sad that the internet gives a voice to those severely lacking in knowledge.
RayJ-HT I have a cadillac I sit in one daily..You do not know high quality and that is fine however NEVER open a business because you will go bankrupt.
I dont't know... X7 looks hideous with that huge grille. XT6 looks mostly unremarkable, which can be either good or bad, depending on what type of person you are.
They copied the entire exterior design from Volvo. KIA Telluride and Hyundai Palisade blow this thing out of the water with features, price, quality and of course warranty. This thing shouldn’t cost more than $47k. I guess the extra $30 k they are charging to get around $70’s is for the Cadillac badge. Cheap plastics to break soon. They have that Chevy Traverse rear end if you look at it from the side.
People who are in the market for a Cadillac aren't going to cross shop Hyundai/KIA. No matter how how impressive new Hyundai/KIA models are they are perceived as cheap cars not luxury cars.
They copied nothing from the Volvo outside the exterior profile of the XC from the side... That's it . My sister rented one and this thing is underwhelming as hell. It shares nothing the XC has
Acura, Lexus and Infiniti all badge engineer as well but this always seems to be ignored. Architecture sharing among the vast majority of manufacurers is very common and has been for years.
@@reynaldomancillas6285 I disagree on your "makes the car cheap" comment. Everyone here raving about the Aviator more than likely doesn't own either that or the XT6. I will admit i don't own neither one but i did my research and actually test drove all the comparable offerings well before deciding to go with my audi q7. The Xt6 in the luxury package offers a much better ride than aviator. The Aviator has already had its far share of recalls since launch, none for the XT6 YET. Ford is sending the aviators 270 miles by truck to the Flat Rock Assembly Plant before hitting dealers for post-production troubleshooting due to all the issues they've been having. Theres a laundry list of issues which can be easily googled. The XT6 is selling more units than Aviator month after month. XT6 offers more standard equipment, More third row head and leg room.
A lot of people giving caddy a lot of hell these days. I like there design language it's unmistakable for anything else but a caddy . I seen the xt6 at my local dealership it looks even better in real life 👍

I just ordered the 2020 ct6 platinum with the twin turbo v8 blackwing. Wish they’d show it off already
That montage married to the music at @01:35? You keep impressing me. I hate how slooooow the gauge swap is, but I guess it **is** a Cadillac.
The Commonwealth sucks re: speeding!
I like it. I don’t think it’ll take off but, I like it!
I think Cadillac did an excellent job.
The price is a deal breaker for me.
Negotiate
Great looking Cadillac that reminds me of the Volvo XC90 and the Kia Telluride. Excellent review, as always...
What would you choose this or the Lincoln Aviator you tested
I love that new gear shifter. It looks just like a modern day BMW and Maserati gear shifter. Very nice move, Cadillac. 👍
Nah.. A BMW shifter, without the Bimmer quality level interior is a Fail
Hey Tom. Glad to see you in the DMV. Yeah VA is quite strict regarding speeding rules. Anyway, I think this is a nice vehicle. GM's pricing structure still baffles me on most of their lines now.
Great review! Informative...and entertaining
Good vid Tom.
You’re right, it’s not a gussied up Chevy. It’s a gussied up gmc.
FYI Tom if you're anywhere close to Alexandria, VA there's a Supermarket you should be able to find. Great review sir.
BS it’s a traverse GM isn’t going to make a New chassis that’s a traverse frame
it's shorter it rides on the Arcadia platform!
Great looking car, ticks a lot of buttons.
You didn't mention it, but isn't that gauge cluster not worthy of being in a luxury vehicle, especially a brand new one?
I was thinking the same
What do you mean? That cluster is plenty good enough.
@@andybub45 it's not when you compare it to any German luxury car. Hell, it can't even compete with new VW clusters
Welp, There is your Cadillac Traverse
Cadillac PAID this reviewer for a good review. Paid his trip and hotel. Makes sense why this review is so positive and why the Lincoln Aviator is not even mentioned when he mentions other competitors.
He made this review 3 weeks ago. It would be unfair to compare the XT6 to the Aviator when he hasn't driven and player with the Aviator a little bit. Watch his Aviator review. He's fair I think.
It's not mentioned because it's not in the same class as the others glorified Expedition
The Aviator looks good, but this is better
This is a huge fail for Caddy .. An overpriced and gussied up GMC Acadia and very underwhelming in style and interior ..
One could buy a much better choice for $25k less and have a better warranty too . I'm thinking the Palisade and Telluride and save serious cash .. They both look better in and out as well . Cadillac is dying and think unless it reinvents itself it will be a gonner ...
Its 5 inches longer then the GMC Acadia
So this XT6 has a very different wheelbase and trackwidth than any Chevy model? Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW, all basic RWD, this Cadillac should have been RWD and AWD (optional) too imo
well done, tom!
Well done Tom
It looks like they just sharpened up the Chevrolet Traverse body and seats then put a Cadillac badge on it...
It's the new Oldsmobile Bravada!!
73k? I love Cadillac but they are losing their mind. Great aesthetic ruined by cheap materials and bad motor. Put a 5.3 in it and finish that interior.
Luke Coble 6.2* fixed that for you
@@SeanDuu YES
Isiah Davis 6.2 would be amazing. I think that motor would be more appropriate in a sport model of the new Chevy Blazer. I’ve had enough of these 4 and 6 cylinder SUV’s

@@wiibaron I guess that is true to a certain point.
I would not hesitate buying from the domestic market if they would end up providing a quality product for a competitive price.
Finally, more likely, the consumer wallet is the one who would appreciate my comment advice.
What is "dynamic lighting"?
Another great review. At some point ... could you do a comparison between this, Pallisade, Aviator. Would be great to get your thoughts.
I can tell you that Palisade is very nice but the Cadillac has better tech and materials (real wood and carbon fiber). The Cadillac handles and rides better too.Is it worth the extra money? Only a buyer can tell.
Driven Car Reviews Cheers Tom. Appreciate the insight. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to your reviews on YT on through the podcast.
Looks pretty good.
But is it really worth that much more than a top-line Telluride?
Well considering that many Kia and Hyundai dealerships are adding significant 2nd stickers to Telluride and Palisade and GM tends to set MSRP very high for significant negotiations I'm not sure how big that difference really is. And the interior materials on the Cadillac are better (and real). The Kia is very good for the price though.
@@DrivenCarReviews Love your reviews. Keep up the good work.
I rather have the a Escalade! This looks like it belongs in the Buick line!
GM loves to lie like they redid a whole platform for one car.
no its off the same line as the acadia
@@james2042 it's the same platform the shorter version of the the Traverse/Enclave. New springs and slightly longer ain't a new platform. Of that's the case Ford escape and Lincoln MKC/Corsair isn't on the same platform. The Lincoln is wider and longer. Nothing wrong with platform sharing I just wish GM wouldn't lie to make Cadillac seem better. they did this with the srx/ xt5.
The Lincoln Aviator is going to sell a lot more than this.
I really wanted Cadillac to come up with something to compete with the Aviator. This is not it. I dig the exterior. If this one had more power, RWD/AWD, magnetic ride control, and super cruise around this price range. It would've been better.
No mention of the Infiniti QX60? Isn't it competition for this?
Yup. I don't always mention every competitor. I'm assuming people are smart enough (like you) to figure it out.
I'll try one ....
I want see escalade dashbord in xt6 2020
Caddy is using the same equation that Infiniti did years ago with the QX60. It worked out in their favor.
The gearbox of the QX60 hybrid is a nightmare
I notice XT6 has some similarities with the new BMW X7 ;-)
I dont't know... X7 looks hideous with that huge grille. XT6 looks mostly unremarkable, which can be either good or bad, depending on what type of person you are.
The Front end looks like Iron Mans face helmet!🤔
It looks so good, i really like it
Very beautiful
good looking suv
It's growing on me.
Beautiful
It shares nothing the XC has
It is, however, a rebadged GMC Acadia just to get ahead of the Aviator bashers tying it to the Explorer on which it’s based.
You do realize your are critizacing the xt6 for the same thing the aviator is guilty of ?
Acura, Lexus and Infiniti all badge engineer as well but this always seems to be ignored. Architecture sharing among the vast majority of manufacurers is very common and has been for years.
@@jdm1039 I know , like everyone does it, Audi's , BMW, but when a American brand does it , it's makes the car cheap...

Why didn't you put the 3.0 TT in ?!?! It's no more than a blinged out Traverse with the 3.6 Gutless Wonder.
I think it looks nice for a suv.

Speeding tickets in VA are more about filling the coffers than highway safety.
Amazing how low the speed limits are set
Like everywhere else. Speedcams are known to actually reduce safety as drivers are focused on speed dial instead of watching the road.
