    If you change the water once a week, during the first couple of months, the whole process goes faster. Guaranteed.

      Why doesn't he put the seeds directly into the soil? 🤔

      Ioannis Tsakiris you can do that but it’s better to let it sprout in water then moving it into soil later on.

      @@ioannistsakiris6253 there is a risk of mold developing on the seed because of the bacteria from the soil

    I tried three seeds in the way introduced, and hopefully they could survive and merge in this cold winter, and I need roughly 7-10 avocado trees or similar evergreen fruit trees to block sunlight to my balcony, and if they could produce edible fruit, it is a bonus. Nowadays each HASS is for $2. Totally bankcrupt.

      I'm trying this out again..the first seed died after 3months...it split open grew a root and after planting it died after a month. so with this second seed that I started right after, it seems to be doing well. It split open with a small root and the top is growing through also, something that the other one didn't do...but just in case I plan to start two more this weekend and see what happens by the Spring.

    I have a couple about the size these in the video were. I transplanted them a few weeks ago. They're doing well now. The leaves they had in the cup turned yellow, but they are putting out new leaves.
    I think with trees, it's more important to have a deep pot. This might not be the case for avocados.
    It's better to transplant sooner than later.

  • @jonathanelizondo9752
    @jonathanelizondo9752 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I didn't have any toothpicks on hand so here is what I did. I got an empty dejablue water bottle, cut (just above the label) turn the cut off top upside down and you have a homemade Avocado seed germinating vase. The vase is wider than needed to accommodate an Avocado seed, and no need to poke anything into your seed in-order to stay hovering over water. Also the Avocado roots will form perfectly. Just keep your seed near 50% submerged.

  • @margo50589
    @margo50589 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Now that's a good idea because then the seed develops into it's own environment from where it is grown. The water changes in temperature and they are mostly coming from different climates . I find when working with rooting the plants like indirect sun. Then gradually they adjust . I think feeding helps very much for the indoor plants as they are in a more contained system.

      I read that you put it in a dark area. I did and mine has lots of roots. Also dry the pit then skin comes off easier. Would a pit from an organic avocado do better. Thanks for the video. Your way seemed to have worked.

      Its ok to change the water. I live in a tropical country where there are mosquitoes, they breed on my avocado cup that's why I often change the water. They grow fast and after two months I am now gonna transplant them to a pot with soil. Hope this helps.

      if you like in Georgia like me I don't really change the water I change it 1 a week or 2 a week but if you change it every day I suppose you should not. the reason is because the water makes little orginisams that are bad and that are good the good ones go into the plant and the bad ones are to small to harm the plant

      ruby castillo its fine to change the water. Try to use distilled water or rain water versus tap water. Also, peel off the skin and you'll germinate much, much faster. Good luck!

    Good explanation.
    I have tried adding soil to water and just planting in pot directly. There seems to be no difference, so now I just plant them directly into soil . I have several what are growing quite large I'm not sure if they're too spindly, but the leaves are huge they seem to be healthy.

    The water in those cups is absolutely foul. It needs to be changed regularly and not allowed to ever get nasty like that. It isn't healthy for the plants or for you. You should be ashamed: teaching people to improperly grow avocados in water like that.

    Awesome vid, great explanation! I'm growing a mango tree currently and am looking into growing an avocado tree in the near future

    I usually submerge the seed halfway in water. Once the skin on the avocado seed starts to become soggy, peel the skin off. Change the water before it becomes moldy (once a week or so). Clean the roots carefully if they get moldy scum on them. The tree will grow much faster. I usually put the tree in soil when it has 8 decent sized leaves (approximately 6 in.). I have only been growing avocado for around 8 months and I have a 3 foot tall tree. I use organic bat guano as fertilizer. I hope this helps.

      I have watched a video about avocados that can grow in cold weather. I bring mine inside when it is cold. I don't believe my trees will survive the cold. The "Grow your greens" guy does an episode on avocados that can survive the cold on youtube. I think they are a tropical plant. I am just experimenting with different plants. I am no expert. I just wish they would grow a little faster so I can eat the fruit of my labor. Good luck to you Carlo.

    I like to change the water regularly. Mine grow pretty well. I tried the adding soil bit and have since just prefered to wait until there is significant root groeth then plant in soik in a deep pot. The tap root likes to go deep and finds its way out the bottom of my 8-10" pots. Mine are now 5' tall and in big pots.

    I've been pretty fortunate with avocados growing in my compost. They pop up and I wait to transplant them into a large container. The issue I have is what to do next. I live in Central Texas, so I am looking at some freezing temperatures in winter. I may create a small patio greenhouse to see what I can get. Thanks for the tutorial!

    Put the seed in potting soil in a sunny place and keep the soil moist. It should feel like a sponge after you wring it out. Maybe a little wetter. Check on it every day.

    Who knew! I've been planting mine directly into the soil of one of my large planters in the backyard that had lots of empty space, really not expecting much or anything. I just thought it was a shame to trash the beautiful avocado seed. That was back around July this year. Guess what? I have now a beautiful (about 4feet tall) avocado tree. Lately i've been feeding it a little fertilizer to keep it going. I was so encouraged that 2 weeks ago i planted another seed in the same pot and it has already come out about 15inches.
