The guage cluster has loose pins where it connects into the harness. They all ended up doing that. I couldn't quite hear the funny sounds you were mentioning but any of those old engines that are up over 100k could probably use some lifters.
Yes 🙌 a Neon appreciator Falling so in love with the neon, cant wait really to tie up some loose ends and take it to the track for a base lap time before really getting into modding it
Im now realizing how fortunate I am to have one in this condition around here. Went and looked at another last week as a parts car for this one (mainly need interior) and man it was soo bad. Excited to get this little weapon out this spring
@@heavyearly2232 honestly I recently went to check out a dohc manual coupe, however it was a base model with roll up windows, no sunroof rear drums. It ended up being absolutely junk, it was soooo bad.
Dudes Those colors looks so minty fresh (cowabunga) The memories are flying lol. My sohc got a Pacesetter header (I actually paid $90 to have it installed before I became a tech back in 01 😅.) The shop even said they had to "melt it out". Which I found out later meant they destroyed my alt bracket. The dohc is gonna sound fantastic before I even get to that part. I had a double overhead canister as we called it lol and man with just my dual Ractive exhaust it sounded so good (as compared to when I had the same exhaust on my sohc) it popped and almost banged with just an intake She'll get crackly up top with the full exhaust too. So pumped to hear it I tried painting my dash too. Idk why that era of Neons loved paint matched bits but I sucked at prep back then lol. The green on yours looks really decent already Good old hot air intake haa. Literally said that years ago.. So cringe from an engineering standpoint. No wonder why they loved cold air intakes Oh and I and speaking of engineers, I believe the Dohc 420a had some Maclaren help with the cyl head design if I'm not mistaken. Maybe your alternator is shot with the battery light btw
@@TheSubieSanctuary Turbo the 2.0! SRT engine is nice, but i feel like the low Redline isnt in the spirit of a small sporty car. The DOHC 2.0 can rev to 7500-7800 with various aftermarket ECU's. Let that puppy scream!
A lot of these parts were inside the car from 2007. But the stuff I needed to get it running again like fuel pump, spark plugs I got from rock auto. For performance parts you can check out www.modernperformance.com/shop
Im pretty sure seat is wood screwed to floor even 😬 going to be going with a proper base or stock and factory belts. I have no patience for these 4 points
That's a weird looking bugeye
Rare bugeye coupe 😂

Yes, I believe its the lifters as well. There are new in box lifters in the car. It will probably become part of my work over the winter on it

Love my 1st gens about to do a srt4 swap on the first one i got when i was 18. Definitely a good find bro ❤.
Thats wicked! Love to hear it. Definitely pumped to spend some more time with the neon.
Nice save! 1st gen neon's are fantastic cars
I love it! End game is the srt swap for sure
@@TheSubieSanctuary Nice, I'm currently doing that to mine, what a dang process LOL

They were/are such rad cars. They really did rip too. I bet if i dropped the clutch id have at least stayed side by side with the civic 😂
I donno that civic sounded on point! Wonder how far that will come haha
This is very similar to my first new car, a '98 highline. Same color, 2 door, 5-speed, but a SOHC engine. I'm looking for a first gen now.
I'll sell you mine if you want to come to Fla and get it! 99 2/door manual DOHC
I had a 96 neon 2.0 dohc! Was goin to be one of the first srt neons untill it was totaled.😢
