Lagos State is a combination of what is shown in this video and the things described by Paula O. in the comments. If I had to describe Lagos in one word, it's VIBRANT. Whether you are in the rich area, the lacking average, or the slummy area, Lagos has an energy that makes a person come alive, feel free, inspired, innovative ideas come rushing in. The people are friendly and very welcoming to visitors, they are free with each other, you'll see some shocking things, and you'll laugh and laugh. There are tons of cultural things to experience in Lagos and anywhere in the country. Lagos has 5 star hotels and villas by western standards, as well as a place just to lay for the night and be on your way the next morning. Many people have so little but they are hardworking, ambitious, believe in a better future for themselves, they are entrepreneurs (it seems) naturally, education is very important to them, many, many, many talented people, some things might break your heart because you see the talents, the knowledge, and how ambitious they are and you'll wish you could help them make greater impact with their skills. Like anywhere else in the world, Lagos has its high class areas and the average areas which of course includes slums, but the vibrance and how socially not everything is taken so seriously, as in other parts of the world, is what sets Lagos apart from all other places.

Most of Lagos is slums, Street View on Google Earth has shown me that truth!

Best of luck LAGOS to become a financial capital of Nigeria. Clean water requirement is on priority for the government.

I have been to Lagos twice and this video is not a true authentic representation of Lagos. This is a rich man's Lagos or a money laundering politician/banker....and so on's Lagos. When I travel to see a place, I want to see it's authenticity, the raw beauty, the things that make it unique. I loved it seeing people in traditional dress with all the beautiful colours. The man on the side of the street making suya with the aromatic smells of unique African spices. The excitement in a house when the power eventually comes on, with a shout of "NEPA!!!!" The vendors selling items to you through the car window. The conversations in pigeon English that are joyously loud and boisterous. This was the sights and sounds that made Lagos unique and enticing. I understand they want to encourage tourism to Lagos but for the average traveller, will this be the Lagos that they see? It was not the Lagos I saw, yet with all the traffic jams, sweltering heat, lack of electricity, beggers on the street, slums, people living under bridges and bribes everywhere you went.....I still returned to the West saying everyone should go over there at least once in your life because it will change you forever. Lagos was like a spiritual gift to me ....the worst thing you can do is to westernize it.....modernize it yes....but please do not westernize it....it will cheapen your value.

Lagos is a true shithole -not worth a visit unless you're on short term essential trip.

Pietro Jenkins .......I am not writing this because I want to engage in conversation with you....but only because you replied to my comment. So to your reply I say this....every place in the world has some "$?&!-hole-ness about it. Some Canadians think the USA is a dump...some in the USA think Canada is dumb, Ireland versus Britain ...etc..etc etc. You are entitled to leave your own "general" comment as I did ......but I did not leave my comment to solicit a response from anyone out there in the cyber- world. Thanks.

You can say what you like about this place. Visitors on official business are cautioned not to venture outside their hotels.

Tony Karim Every commercial is a hopeful lie. So let the rich people come and leave their money. It's called "marketing" and is essential for economic development.
