  • In this series, we'll be exploring the outskirts of the Central Guatemalan highlands, which is the poorest region in all of Guatemala. Instead of staying in the city of Coban, I'll be venturing out into the villages to see what life is like. The villages around this area are never visited by any tourists, so this was where authentic culture was to be found.
It just so happens that this region is inhabited by one of the 22 Mayan groups in Guatemala called the Qʼeqchiʼ Mayans, who speak their own language.
I found a village on Google Maps called "Campat". I know no one there, how to get there, or even what was there. But I wanted to see what life was like in this impoverished village, to see how people live.
*This is not "poverty porn", but rather an in-depth look at how the marginalized live in Guatemala, in hopes to understand a way of the unknown.
    Welcome to rural Guatemala.

I think these videos are really good to show Mayan people today and their life than just seeing Tikals.

Counting from 1 to 10 is very similar to Tzotzil, in Chiapas Mexico.
