It’s not really the language barrier. These people, like many isolated groups around the world, have (for centuries) passed down an oral tradition that outsiders were to be feared because they want to kill you, rape you, take over your village, convert you to their religion, etc. l

Interesting because Caribs were virtually wiped out in most of the Caribbean exceptions of Dominica 🇩🇲 on the reservation and I think one more island I’ve been to the reservation.
That guy is full of crap, those carribeans were the African slave that were left on islands just like Jamaican's. There were no Europeans or African's in the America's during those times.
I am surprised that you find strange that people in Guatemala do not speak Spanish, where Spanish is the oficial language, but you have to remember you are in Mayan Country, where there are several ethnic groups that speak their own language. By the way, you talked about Mexico and that is a country that I must have seen at least once in my life. There is a reason for that and I will tell you why. Six months ago I did a DNA test. The DNA test showed that I am approximately 40 percent Meso American and Andean, which means that my ancestors come from Mexico to Argentina Chile. I was stunned 😱. I asked my mother, are we Mayan or Carib natives? What's the real deal here? She told me that Grandma always taught her that her ancestors are Carib natives and these groups moved from the Caribbean to Venezuela/Guyana/Surinam and French Guyana. But the test showed that we have Inca/Mayan ancestors and DNA doesn't lie, so this is very confusing. There seems to be another DNA test that indicates more precisely where your ancestors come from because Meso American and Andes is a huge area. Maybe this is an explanation why I am so attracted to the Mayan/Inca cultures hahaha🤭, I love their music, the clothes and the traditional things. But anyway, I grew up as a child in an indigenous village, so I inherited the values and norms of the Carib indigenous culture and in fact I love all indigenous cultures, no matter which one. I find them all very special and for to learn from. Also from your culture. Wow, I think those powwow festivals in the United States that you talked about are so beautiful. That is also something I would like to see sometime. The multi-coloredness and variation is enormous and impressive.
@@reggaerasta4285 this is absolutely fascinating, and really intriguing. That's amazing about the DNA test in your family. This entire message really resonated with me at this time, I too am glad there are others out their who see things deeply and have a yearning to always find out more. Yes, I'm disappointed in the TH-cam but hopefully if he is open to it he can learn. I was shocked how he said he's in Guatemala and the people don't speak a world of Spanish 🤦♀️🤦♀️ I think Guatemala is one of the most well-known countries by foreigners for being and having native american (mayan) culture and populations. I would love to learn more about your culture and traditions and think it's great that you grew up in your community. There are many who do not and grow up not understanding the disconnect they feel between themselves and non-native people. But times are getting better and here in the US there are so many authentic and native owned shops, TH-cam channels, TV shows, etc. Indigenous folks are finally getting their momentum in the media and "mainstream" culture here. My kids as well are always curious and immersed in their and other cultures and traditions. If you're interested, I'd love to get in touch with you and know more.

The only thing better than your videos, is your videography and excellent editing. I've been to El Salvador twice, in my 60s, don't speak Spanish, and stuck to the hardtop roads. Good job SIR

But in that case wouldn't he give us an update from someone else phone? Perhaps he was locked from his youtube channel but since you said you can't reach him this is not the case. Only way is someone calls Guatemala authorities for a missing person. I hope he wasn't stabbed or food poisoned because there are not even roads to that island to get help from hospital.
If you are close a friend of him ,you must know his information you should contact the greek embasy or authorities ……there is no greek embassy in guatemala but there is one in mexico and they could help……its been too long with out news.

Timmy your video title name is Wrong . There is some parts in Greece where people do not like to be very social either and that happens all over the wold . Guatemala has more 25 Dialects all over the country, that is how amazing the culture in Guatemala is. Is call the Eternal Spring for a reason and even those people can't communicate with you if they see you need help they will give theirs souls for you and it can happen all over the world as well and that is why we make this wonderful world Spin. I don't understand why people commenting about the life of indigenous living the way they live is very natural and is best to live that way than living in a big mansion with Steel Doors and have not sleep because the money came either from stealing money funds or other venues that are not very nice hahaha
You are right! Remember that at least these people arent slaves to excessive consumerism, debt, mortgages, credit scores, etc., which are all inventions of the so-called civilized world, inventions that have no inherent existence and where kids are glued to their mobile phones all day and everyday. These people happen to have stronger social bonds and close-knit communities, something that is vanishing in the western world. Notice how these kids probably dont have to pop a pill for just about everything…
Im from Guatemala and was completely surprised they knew not one word in spanish. The education situation in my country is sad... Thank you for sharing these videos.
Im actually surprised that you are from Guatemala and you know not even one word of a local indigenous language of your region. Yes, the state of education in your country is very sad indeed that you are deprived of the knowledge of your original cultures.

Hi Tim I'm going to guatemala an December and I would like to tour the villages how do I get in contact with the man that took you there I see his van say tourist
You know, I can understand their mistrust or, at first glance, this feeling of not being welcome. Imagine yourself in your small village where you're not used to seeing foreigners arriving or disembarking. I can understand. Let's not forget that Guatemala unfortunately has its fair share of problems with gangs like MS-13 or Barrio 18, or cartels involved in drug trafficking routes. Therefore, the local people or indigenous communities are wary, and I understand them.
Excellent Videos. Bad weather. Please stay inside your homes, and have alternate heat etc to stay warm. Do not fly in the winter. All homeless MUST be HOUSED and FED. DO NOT DRIVE!
Very good video, you're showing a part of Guatemala that's a small paradise where my mother was born and raised. thanks for your take on this tiny island.
Your channel has been exploding the last 7 days man congrats, it’s so addictive watching trips such as these ones keep it up, if you could so as more segments that would be great , at least 30min per video and more interactions not just one :)
Hi Tim, love your videos. I got to know my country though you. Be safe in the your travels 🙏.
I love how we share everything no greed or nun 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹

@@Mynameisntjeff147 f@ck off...America speaks spanish...in USA is the 2nd lenguage. LOL
I was there 20 years ago, great memories. Took 9 months and went through all of Central America .
Nice.
I love how you find these back roads and small villages..I would love to take these roads on a bike (adventure motorcycle)! I'm like you..I'd rather check out the villages than the tourist spots...only way to experience the culture and people properly 😀. The Latino people are very kind and welcoming.. safe travels bro 👍✌😎
Guatemalans are one of the most friendly people on earth. As long as you treat them with respect, of course. As in any other place on earth, please don't take pictures of them without asking.
Watching from Scotland 🏴 loving your channel 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The only thing better than your videos, is your videography and excellent editing. I've been to El Salvador twice, in my 60s, don't speak Spanish, and stuck to the hardtop roads. Good job SIR
That man is a Legend. He is fighting for His people. Your lucky to meet Him Tim. Amazing.
rly nice effort in this video. the quick cuts make it very fun to watch man
I am a close friend of timmy's from Athens. I am really worried about him, cause I can't reach him for 1 and a half week now, may god be with him.
I read that the last place he was isn't so dangerous, however that part of Latin America is very dangerous. Most possible he got robbed and they took all his equipment and camera.
@@dimm7448 Guatemala is not Dangerous like Mexico. Like The Person says call the authorities.
If you are close a friend of him ,you must know his information you should contact the greek embasy or authorities ……there is no greek embassy in guatemala but there is one in mexico and they could help……its been too long with out news.
Its ok. He might be really busy reciving some love from a Guatemalean girl 😎🤞

Did that trip from Coban to LanKin ,Puerto Barrios , then Livingston
Amico show some kindness you never even offered tha historian anything to eat, always practice generosity.
18:33 I saw him on TH-cam. He talks about his people past and all it’s history
So far my favorite video of yours❤
The kid took the chips bag 😂😂😂, Tim was going to give him one.
I have to admit it, this is a very interesting vlog.
K’iche’ is the second most spoken language after Spainsh :6 ! But THERES about 33? Different dialectos in Guatemala
Think they were speaking Qeqchi not kiche but so many dialects
I have heard that instant coffee was invented in guatemala.
At 20:00, he is so very right...They were already here!!! Just like in North America.
Great video! I want to go to Guatemala next year!
I’m shocked. That guy said he’s not African🤦🏻♂️ Mayans literally we’re here in this continent before he came from Africa!
Cardamon is the most expensive crop Guatemala exports...mostly to the MIddle East to drink in coffee and eat in food.
The plant on the way you found the villagers make perfume is Cardomom or Ealichi which is used to flavor food in India
Timmy be killing me with his Madre Mia😅😅🤣😂
Tim, are you ok? You haven’t published videos lately. Sending you good vibes 😎
I think he has gone back home to Greece, check his instagram
He’s rude to natives invading their privacy
@@aldossnow3703 He approaches people in a humble way that’s why they welcome him.
@@claudiagonzalvez4932 no it’s so invasive , like if I went up to your family outside your home and started recording them , asking them what language do you speak ?
He didn’t bother to ask the black guy if he’s hungry too or offer a drink
After all the history lesson he just received
i hope you also visit soon philippines, people here are so hospitable and good food
Guatemala looks incredible
11:10 my brother u didn't tell us u smoke. I see that cigarette in your hand 😄
I would never go in a area like this without being with someone that knows the language and culture
I haven't been to Central America in quite some time. Thank you for these videos. Nice to know they're doing fine without me.
The guy in the village was saying people there work in cardamon plantations "for perfumes and food".
I like your video ,bro
Im from Guatemala and was completely surprised they knew not one word in spanish. The education situation in my country is sad... Thank you for sharing these videos.
they're probably better off that way, at least they're not confused about what sex they are, like in US schools...
Im actually surprised that you are from Guatemala and you know not even one word of a local indigenous language of your region. Yes, the state of education in your country is very sad indeed that you are deprived of the knowledge of your original cultures.
As a Guatemalan, I see it the other way! How sad that many of us have Mayan blood, but do not learn any of the languages and completely dismiss that wonderful culture!
Educated?! 😂 Because of lack of Spanish 😂😂😂😂😂
I see you videos in Egypt you are a good man nsd know alot of scams people well done i follow you from syria and I love your videos come to visit Damascus it's so beautiful
Hey Timmy, what road to Rio Dulce did u take? I am hitchhiking and wonder which eay is the best. Like to go trough villages so the one u took seems nice. Thnks!

Now I wanna learn what ever it is they speak, as a half Guatemalan man I gotta learn! That Caribbean plhip guy was speaking crazy facts about the African slaves jumping ship and helping them fight the British and French because they were built bigger.
When I went to Guatemala many years ago, I was warned by a lot of people not to go into the mountains.
There’s no danger there
The only reason is because its so uninhabited when you get into the jungle, there's dangers of animals, land slides, getting lost. People have no idea how unbelievable huge wild jungles are.
Which part of Guatemala is this?
Timmy walked up to a crowd of kids w/one bag of chips and a single soda🤦♂️ I'm just so use watching Chris Must List with his kind gestures and blessing others. I just expected more 🤷.

Put cars in parking garages before the storms. The upper level parking garages are better. Celebrate your Xmas in warm weather, and ZOOM from inside your home
in the winter.
I just want to clarify the Caribes where indeed from Africa what he said was incorrect they are indeginous people to the land but stating he isn't African is incorrect but anyhow great video Garifuna people come from west africa. The original Garifuna come from SVG 🇻🇨 they fled to countries like belize and other south American states. The Garifuna people one the biggest Caribbean nations in the world 💛🖤🤍 but he is informative and love how the rasta spreads information.
