The first major work that I learn as a tot was a Kuhlau Sonatina. I play it much better now than then after about 62 years of practice! This concerto was indeed a revelation to me, a beautiful jewel! I recently returned from Denmark, but was disappointed not to have heard any reference to this great Danish composer. The Rondo was a sheer joy!

Not only are there references to Beethoven’s first, but Mozart as well. He’s solidly in the classical period.

such a beauty. I surely like the cadenza on that first movement. The second movement is sublime

Definitely a tip of the hat to Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in the first theme.

Во всех трех частях элементы из 1 концерта Бетховена. Ностальгия по раннему Бетховену и Моцарту для господ 1810 года.

Nice piece, but is it me or are the similarities with Beethoven's first concerto just coincidental?

+Albert de la Fuente Kuhlau knew Beethoven personally and adored him. Kuhlau was nicknamed in his lifetime as the "Beethoven of flute" as he wrote a large repertoire for that instrument.

Judging by the range of the piano in this piece, i think its safe to say he wrote this after Beethoven's concerto

Also having the dominant chord played with the 7th in the bass line is an early Beethoven trait particularly when he's in C major. His symphony, concerto, overtures all do this when in C

In some ways, I think this concerto is better than Beethoven 1. It's a shame Kuhlau only wrote one. BTW, Orchid Classics put out a CD with Beethoven 1 and the Kuhlau concerto (Marianna Shirinyan on piano with the Copenhagen Philharmonic) so you can compare the two easily!

Kuhlau was basically self taught and Beethoven was his god. It is very close to Beethoven - almost a rip off, but it was part of Kuhlaus learning process.

An interesting concerto firmly in the Viennese Neoclassical tradition, with welcome echos of Mozart and early Beethoven. Who composed the cadenza in the first movement- - Kuhlau or someone else?

I always enjoyed playing his easier pieces. "Who composed the cadenza in the first movement- - Kuhlau or someone else?" My question, too. Scintillating!

I don't know why, but this concert remembers me first Beethoven's concert.. who first wrote concert?

    • @farrelpermadi5471

Beethoven, he wrote it when 1798, and Kuhlau wrote this at 1810, it means Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 much more older than Kuhlau Piano Concerto

But it is true both concert has similities. first, the keybin C mayor. 2. up scale C mayor in main theme. 3 rd. orquentation and depolomennt. They have similiar ideas, first theme and clasical motive
